| body | <html> <p>It is easy to say that being black in Canada should be a smooth experience considering we live in a first world country, however, the black Canadian experience is still not the Canadian <br/>experience.</p> <p> <br/>As a black Canadian we are consistently fighting to have an identity that makes sense to ourselves and apparently others too. Far too many times I have been told "oh you're <br/>Canadian? But what are you really?" As if my blackness does not warrant my <br/>Canadian identity. If you tell people your "background" a word that is used far too often in this country and identifies your ethnicity as what your parents are, it is still not accepted by those born in that country who wouldn't dare consider you one of them. So where do you turn when you can no longer bare the confusion revolving around just one simple question that deserves a simple answer. Far too many of us black Canadians find ourselves stuck between two worlds that undoubtedly coincide but contradict at the same time. My Canadian experience is a black experience which also is a Caribbean and a Jamaican experience but there is also the underlying white experience. </p> <p>Growing up in a country where the people around you are predominantly white and <br/>we are forced to conform, we find ourselves tucking away our blackness and bringing <br/>it back out when we are home and comfortable. A type of experience where no <br/>matter how hard you try to adapt, your blackness will always show. Our skin color will always show up to introduce ourselves first no matter how many words have already been spoken. Your black name causes confusion and mispronunciations among your white counterparts even leaving your resume overlooked when seeking a job opportunity or being scoffed at every time someone struggles to say your name in a group setting. This is just the tip of the iceberg. My Canadian experience leaves people watching me twice as hard in a store, overlooked for promotions, avoided by potential clients, suspicious to police, not trustworthy enough to get a loan at the bank, viewed as broke, prejudged as strong when I am at my most vulnerable, assumed to be less intelligent and white washed if you are intelligent, seen as less desirable and more aggressive than white women and other lighter skinned ethnicities and it goes on and on.</p> <p> <br/> My Canadian black experience is not unique nor is it old. It is the same experiences others that look just like me are facing. The question lies, how can we maneuver through such an experience and still have the crucial strong self identity we so often crave? The answer is it doesn't matter. We are unique and we are all of those identities warped into one and that's okay. We are allowed to be a multifaceted people with an abundance of flavor, culture, and perspectives to offer. We add so much value to the Canadian experience although it may not feel appreciated. Whenever you feel a sense of self doubt creeping up on you, remember <br/>this, no one can ever define us and put us into a box just so they can make sense of us. Let your identity compliment you and not define you. Let your identity become like art on a canvass, its yours to create and reveal its beauty to the world. Be proud. Be courageous. Be authentically every you.</p> <p> <br/> <br/></p> <p> </p> <p> <br/> <br/> <br/> <br/> <br/></p> </html> |

| body | <html> <p> <strong>The More You Visualize Success The More it Seems You Don't Have Any</strong></p> <p>This may sound a little bit counter-intuitive but we are always taught to think about success as this distant far away goal that we will get to one day when the millions start rolling in, but what about thinking of yourself as successful already as you are now? Thinking about the type of person you want to be instead of just being that person only reinforces the idea that you are not that thing. The more you think about success as something you have already, the more possible it feels, the more confident you are, and it's great for your ego. Let's think like a winner this year.</p> <p><strong>The Key to Having a Good Life is Giving a Damn About Less</strong></p> <p>This may sound odd, but have you ever thought about focusing more on what is true, immediate, and important? We tend to give a damn all too often about little things that don't really impact our lives in any way and only take away from concentrating on what really matters. Try freeing your mind by turning off the notifications on your daily news app talking about celebrity drama every once in a while, and stop worrying about things outside of your control that have nothing to do with your life.</p> <p><strong>We Have so Much Stuff That we Don't Know What to Give a Damn About Anymore</strong></p> <p>In this day and age where people's value seems to be based on what phone you have, it can be pretty exhausting trying to keep up with having all the latest items. We do not have a material crisis since our daily lives are filled with shopping, advertisements, and getting the latest trending items, we in fact have a spiritual crisis. We have so many material things that we truly don't need, and don't know what to do with anymore. The confusion lies with having so much stuff and opportunities that we don't even know what to give a damn about anymore. We are no longer paying attention to what's inside of us because we are so focused on keeping up with what is outside. Social media has driven more people than ever to plastic surgery, people are going broke trying to look rich to keep up with the Jones's, and everything has become about how you look not how you feel. Can someone say crisis again? Let's give a damn about how happy we feel and engage in more life experiences and stop obsessing over material things and looks. Based on numerous studies, material things did not make people more happy.</p> <p><strong>Infinite Knowledge Can Lead to Infinite Comparisons</strong></p> <p>Now that we have more access to the world and can see everything that everyone is doing, it has a huge effect on our psyches. Now we have a infinite amount of ways to see how we don't measure up to others, how we are not good enough, and how things are not as great as they could be. Focus on the good things that you have in your life right now, rather than on lack. It will only attract more good things. The more you compare to others, the more you will always feel like you have nothing. Whatever happened to gratitude? Your alive aren't you?</p> <p><strong>Not Giving a Damn is Not Being Indifferent, it Means Your Comfortable With Being Different</strong></p> <p>It's okay to be different and to want different things out of life than other people, that is why we are all made as unique individuals. You don't have to not give a damn about everything in life, just be selective about the unimportant things and you will start to see that the many things we focus on daily are really not that important at all. If you prefer watching documentaries on Netflix over watching reality television, watch documentaries. Just because your friend wants you to keep up with the Kardashians does not mean you have to, it's a trap! Being a people pleaser will be a slow and awful death to your soul, so be yourself and say no when you feel like saying no. If you don't want to go to the club with your drunk friends, and would rather sleep, say no. Don't worry you will still have friends, and a little more respect for yourself.</p> <p><strong>It is Okay For Life to Suck Some of The Time</strong></p> <p>Newsflash, life is never going to be perfect and you shouldn't expect it to be that way. You will only be setting yourself up for a life filled with hurt, depression, and disappointment. It is not healthy to expect perfection out of yourself, your life, or from anyone. We can't hope for a life without problems, we can merely hope for a life with "good" problems. How you may ask? well a good problem would be having a job that is boring, but your bills are paid and you are able to pay down on your debt. That does not mean you can't pursue your passions, but don't quit your job with no savings to pursue modeling and expect life to just work out. If you hate your job, create a exit strategy and be smart. If something bad happens outside of our control, the least we can do is focus on how we can get through the problem, rather than focusing on the problem itself. Some suffering will always be inevitable, and that's okay. Even when someone becomes rich they will still have problems, the problems just shift. Problems will never stop they just get merely exchanged or upgraded. True happiness is found in solving problems not by avoiding them. Turning to drugs or alcohol for temporary fixes will never make your problems go away, it will just be there waiting for you when your sober again, adding some health problems to your already growing list of problems. Find the problems you enjoy having and enjoy solving, this may sound strange but happiness can be found this way. A doctor's passionate problem may be to find a cure to a disease, what is your cure to a passionate problem in life?</p> <p><strong>You Are Going to Die Someday</strong></p> <p>This is not meant to sound dark, it is just the reality that we as humans seem to lose touch of. We are all going to die one day and everyone we know is going to die one day. In this short life that we have here on earth, we only have a certain amount of time to give a damn, so will you join me in choosing for 2019 how much you want to give a damn? Our days are numbered so let's care a little more about giving less of a damn about what doesn't matter, and focus on what is most important, it will change your life.<br> </p> </html> |

| body | <html> <p> <strong>Are Self Driving Cars Ready For The Road?</strong><br> </p> <p>Skeptics say that full autonomy could be further away than the industry is actually admitting. Fully autonomous cars are far from only a few months away. Tesla is supposed to have a fully autonomous car by 2018, Google had expectations as well for next year 2019, which will be the same year that self driving taxis will be on the road in Singapore (talk about risky). GM also plans to have a fully autonomous car in 2019 with no steering wheel, preventing drivers from intervening while in the car (another risky situation). <br> </p> <p>Cars are already being tested in Arizona. In testing, there have been a few crashes, with some being deadly, but with the rapid advancement of technology, there are hopes to have a safe self driving car on the market by next year. However, none of this is a guarantee and more testing is being done. The dream of a fully autonomous car may not be as close as we think. There is growing concerns with artificial intelligence experts “AI experts” indicating that it may be a few years or even decades before self driving systems can be reliable and safe. Experts like Gary Marcus is preparing for a painful outcome, referred to as the “AI winter.” This delay could have a huge consequence for companies who want to invest in self driving technology. <br> </p> <p><strong>Self Driving Cars is a Tricky Experiment and No One Knows The Outcome<br> </strong></p> <p>A lot of car companies have been optimistic about autonomy. Over the years AI accomplished the unthinkable in its success in the tech industry through deep learning. Deep learning is a method that uses machine learning algorithms to create structured information from data sets. It operates Google search, Facebook news feeds, conversational speech to texts algorithms, and Go playing systems. We also use deep learning to detect earthquakes, predict heart disease, and flag suspicious activity on a camera feed, along with many other innovations. With all that being said, deep learning requires a lot of training to operate properly. <br> </p> <p>Researchers think they can improve generalization skills with the right algorithms, but research has shown recently that deep learning is worse at generalizing than assumed. One study shows that conventional deep learning systems has a difficult time generalizing with different frames of a video, labeling a bear as a baboon or a weasel depending on minor shifts to the background. Small changes to pictures can completely change the system’s judgement, something several researchers take advantage of in adversarial data sets. <br> </p> <p>With the same AI technology being used with chat-bots, a lot of companies lost faith in their chat bot projects and very few are still in active development. Many chat bots are just not up to standard. It is not just for collecting data, but the chat bots should have the ability to respond to what someone is saying, drawing on broader conversational skills to produce a unique response to each individual. Deep learning unfortunately can’t make that type of chat bot. This leaves a very scary question, will self driving cars get better like other AI successes or will it run into the same generalization problem that chat bots have. How unpredictable will the driving be? (It seems extremely unpredictable at this point). <br> </p> <p>Despite the unpredictability behind this technology it is still very early and may be too early to know for sure. Self driving cars are a scientific experiment and the answer is unknown. Gary Marcus worries that driving in accident prone scenarios may be more complicated than the industry can admit. With surprising new things happening all the time, it would not be a good thing for deep learning (no one can afford any more accidents either). <br> </p> <p><strong>Safety is Key</strong><br> </p> <p>A fatal crash in 2016 causes a Model S to drive full speed into the rear of a tractor-trailer, the sensor was confused by the height of the trailer and the bright reflection of the sun. This is a cause for concern that can’t be ignored. In March, a self driving Uber vehicle crashes and kills a woman pushing a bicycle after she emerges from a unauthorized cross walk. According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB report) Uber’s software misidentified the woman as an unknown object, a vehicle, and then a bicycle, but never as a human. Another crash occurs in California, the California crash was a Model X car that went toward a barrier and sped up moments before the collision, the reason behind this is still unknown. Every accident that has occurred appears to be from some type of unexpected circumstance. <br> </p> <p><strong>This is Not an Isolated Problem<br> </strong></p> <p><img src="https://www.google.ca/search?q=self+driving+car&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiovLCxuuHeAhXQzFMKHeTSCxMQ_AUIDygC&biw=1242&bih=553#imgrc=o2f8qA12u3zoxM:"/>With all the unpredictable circumstances that have occurred companies are looking at alternatives. Many companies moved to an older AI technique called “rule based AI.” This technique allows engineers to apply code specific behaviors or logic to a self-directed system. It would assist in allowing companies to avoid some of the deep learning’s limitations, however, it is hard to predict how successful engineers will be in preventing certain errors. A study by the Rand Corporation estimates that self driving cars need to drive at least 275 million miles without a fatality to prove that they are as safe as human drivers (which humans are not the safest drivers themselves). Improving the accident rate may be harder than it looks and will take a lot more testing. Techniques are being used in hopes that it will work in the near future, but there is no proof that this technology will get to the precision necessary to be as successful as we need it to be. </p> <p> </p> </html> |

"body": "<html>\n<p> <strong>Are Self Driving Cars Ready For The Road?</strong><br>\n</p>\n<p>Skeptics say that full autonomy could be further away than the industry is actually admitting. <br>\n</p>\n<p>Cars are already being tested in Arizona. <br>\n</p>\n<p><strong>Self Driving Cars is a Tricky Experiment and No One Knows The Outcome<br>\n</strong></p>\n<p>A lot of car companies have been optimistic about autonomy. | body | Deep learning is only applicable to systems the almost never change. In the paper "Deep Learning: A Critical Appraisal", Marcus describes how deep learning was able to learn how to play *Breakout* to an acceptable degree. But when a small wall was added to the middle of the screen, the deep learning AI completely broke down. Now imagine this same type of AI being employed on real life roads, in which the environment changes often and unexpectedly. Deep learning AI is flat out unacceptable for driving. "Unsafe at any speed" well describes it. |

| body | <b>The Art of Seduction</b> The objective of seducing someone is to get that person to do what you want them to do. Many operations are built on seduction and are integrated in our everyday lives through work, business etc. In order to be truly seductive you cannot appear as someone who is trying to seduce. It has to be natural and almost undetectable to your person of interest. If it is not done correctly then your person of interest may be able to sense that they are being manipulated. <b>Reach People Mentally </b> In order for you to seduce someone you have to get to their mind. One of the steps in doing so is through creating a false sense of security with the person of interest. The person must feel that you are safe to be around and someone they can talk to or relate to. Observe what the person enjoys doing and discuss it with them casually in conversation. It will appear as if you have a similar interest to them and it will allow them to open up considerably. Send mixed signals. Make your person of interest feel as if they can never get a hold on you but also feel like they are liked. It is a "hot" and "cold" method. One minute you show them you like them and at another moment you are more distant. This keeps the person on alert and wanting to gain more of your affection. Feed weaknesses. Allow the person to feel like you can provide their desires. If they love chocolate, give the person of interest chocolate now and then. If they enjoy partying, go out with them and show them a good time. If they enjoy having a drink, drink with them to show you enjoy it as well. This will allow the person to become more dependent on you as you are their "feel good" model. Stir interest before they go elsewhere. Allow the person of interest to feel as if they don't really know you. Whenever you have a conversation with them, agree on something but also disagree on another topic. Mix it up. Show the person that you are not always going to agree with them and it will make them more attentive to what you say. Not being too predictable will prevent the person of interest from fully understanding you. <b>Appear To Be a Object of Desire</b> Most people know that when someone is jealous over you it means they care. Although not always the case, making someone slightly intimidated through jealousy can encourage a person to want you more by competing for you. Appear more popular. The more popular you are the more someone is interested in knowing what is so special about you that you are the center of attention. This allows you to make your person of interest see how wanted you are by others. Even if you are not popular you can create the illusion that you are by appearing to be busy and sociable. Create a need by stirring anxiety and discontent. Remind the person of interest of a flaw they may have, this can cause someone to feel insecure and wonder if you are attracted to them. Give in to the temptations of your person of interest. Whatever it is that they like most, give it to them, but take it away on occasion. Allow the person's desires to feel like something you can provide. Never give too much though, this will keep the power in your hands as the person of interest wants more from you. Do small actions to distract. Think of thoughtful small things you can do for the person of interest. The simple things will distract the person from any doubt they may have had about you. The simple details will make someone feel as if they are understood and noticed. Make a bold move. Once your person of interest is close to you, make the first move if they are too shy to do so on their own. The bold move will come as a surprise to the person of interest and they will feel flattered and wanted. The bold move can be a kiss, hug, asking someone out, asking for something, any move you desire to make you can do it depending on the stage you are at with this person. Once your person of interest is seduced you are very likely to get what you want or simply deserve from someone. I digress, this does not have to be done in a romantic manner, as I mentioned before, the art of seduction is used almost everywhere in our daily lives. Use the art of seduction wherever you feel it is needed, the beauty of it is, its an art, so go out there and practice! |

"body": "<b>The Art of Seduction</b>\n\nThe objective of seducing someone is to get that person to do what you want them to do. Many operations are built on seduction and are integrated in our everyday lives through work, business etc. \n\nIn order to be truly seductive you cannot appear as someone who is trying to seduce. It has to be natural and almost undetectable to your person of interest. If it is not done correctly then your person of interest may be able to sense that they are being manipulated. \n\n<b>Reach People Mentally </b>\n\nIn order for you to seduce someone you have to get to their mind. \n\nSend mixed signals. Make your person of interest feel as if they can never get a hold on you but also feel like they are liked. It is a \"hot\" and \"cold\" method. One minute you show them you like them and at another moment you are more distant. This keeps the person on alert and wanting to gain more of your affection. \n\nFeed weaknesses. Allow the person to feel like you can provide their desires. If they love chocolate, give the person of interest chocolate now and then. If they enjoy partying, go out with them and show them a good time. If they enjoy having a drink, drink with them to show you enjoy it as well. This will allow the person to become more dependent on you as you are their \"feel good\" model. \n\nStir interest before they go elsewhere. \n\n<b>Appear To Be a Object of Desire</b>\n\nMost people know that when someone is jealous over you it means they care. Although not always the case, making someone slightly intimidated through jealousy can encourage a person to want you more by competing for you. \n\nAppear more popular. The more popular you are the more someone is interested in knowing what is so special about you that you are the center of attention. This allows you to make your person of interest see how wanted you are by others. Even if you are not popular you can create the illusion that you are by appearing to be busy and sociable. \n\nCreate a need by stirring anxiety and discontent. \n\nDo small actions to distract. Think of thoughtful small things you can do for the person of interest. The simple things will distract the person from any doubt they may have had about you. | body | <b>Believe in Yourself</b> A lot of us walk around just living day by day without even realizing that they are not truly living at all. People are fearful of trying something new and different. Trying something new is scary and intimidating and we tend to get in our own way with our thoughts. If you come up with an idea and are thinking of a thousand ways it won;t work you will never make the move to thrive for what you really want. Fear is the number one factor controlling people and the decisions they make in life. Fear of failure, fear of not being good enough, insecurities, doubt, negative thoughts all have a negative impact on the way we live our lives. The only way successful people became successful was through taking a risk and deciding to try new things. Knowing who you are and what you want can have a major impact on the thoughts you put into your head on a daily basis. If you know you want to be a teacher but you work in a bank, figure out how you can make this dream possible. I am not saying to quit your job the next day and not have steady income, but it would be useful to use the job you have now as a way to save money towards what you truly want. Think more positively about what can come into your life and you will be surprised at what you encounter. <b>Don’t Accept Whatever Someone Offers You </b> Just because someone is offering you something it does not mean you have to take it. If it is something you don’t want, never take it, you will thank yourself later. Sometimes as women we tend to settle for whatever is given to us and we are not taught to really go after what we want. Men on the other hand are taught to be “go getters” and to go after whatever it is their heart desires. Why can’t that reality apply to us? We are long deserving of finally having what our hearts desire. If you have the prototype of a man you want, career, even a damn living preference, we have a right to say “no” until something is our “yes. Stop being nice and taking whatever is given to you. Just kindly decline and you will see how quickly you see more positive results in your life. <b>Plan Ahead</b> If you have a plan you are much more likely to succeed in life than if you just live life by the whim. It is important that we have a plan for what we want or where we see ourselves five years ahead. It may sound like a long time but five years really goes by quickly and your stuck wondering what the hell did i do with my time? You wasted it if that thought just crossed your mind. <b>Level Up </b> If you don’t want a mediocre life, which you shouldn’t, the best thing to do is do things that make you feel good. For me, If I look good I feel good also. My journey of leveling up goes with making sure I look good when I am leaving the house. If your a single woman you never know when you might meet your next date, and honestly the odds are going to be pretty low if you don’t make yourself look good and stand out. Also, when you look good you will feel happier which will attract more happy people to you. If you don’t have nice clothes go shopping and buy some, the thrift store has great clothing options and rare name branded items for those people that are on a budget. Dress nice when you head out the door, have your hair well groomed, and wear makeup. You will see a significant change in how you are treated and approached when you start doing this, which in turn can lead to better choices and opportunities in life. Go to nicer parts of town to hang out, have dinner, or go shopping in. The odds are much greater that you will feel better and you will meet people of a certain lifestyle that you can make connections with (I think I really meant dates). As much as we want to believe that looks don’t matter, in this world they really do, so why not be smart and play the game of life. <b>Think Positive </b> This is one of the hardest parts of leaving the mediocre life behind. Having negative thoughts only encourages mediocrity and makes it more difficult to make better decisions. Negative thoughts keep you trapped and only attracts more and more negativity (not to mention negative partners). It is important for our mental and personal well being that we not only look good on the outside, but feel good on the inside. Thinking positive thoughts will attract more positive results in our lives and will allow you to see the world from a better place. Being positive will lead you down a better path and attract more opportunities. You will also attract positive people (which make great dates). What our thoughts are is the first step to making any real significant changes in our lives. Show gratitude and think of things you are thankful for every day, wake up thinking about what makes you excited to be alive, go out more often, do the things you love, have more fun, and look at things from a positive perspective. In just a matter of weeks you will see the differences manifest in your life. Not accepting a mediocre life means not taking crap from anyone (maybe except for your boss), leveling up and looking your best, thinking positively, planning ahead, and not taking what is offered to you just because it is offered. We only live once, so why not accept only the best 🙂 |

We are long deserving of finally having what our hearts desire. If you have the prototype of a man you want, career, even a damn living preference, we have a right to say “no” until something is our “yes. Stop being nice and taking whatever is given to you. Just kindly decline and you will see how quickly you see more positive results in your life.\n\n<b>Plan Ahead</b>\n\nIf you have a plan you are much more likely to succeed in life than if you just live life by the whim. It is important that we have a plan for what we want or where we see ourselves five years ahead. It may sound like a long time but five years really goes by quickly and your stuck wondering what the hell did i do with my time? You wasted it if that thought just crossed your mind.\n\n<b>Level Up </b>\n\nIf you don’t want a mediocre life, which you shouldn’t, the best thing to do is do things that make you feel good. As much as we want to believe that looks don’t matter, in this world they really do, so why not be smart and play the game of life.\n\n<b>Think Positive </b>\n\nThis is one of the hardest parts of leaving the mediocre life behind. In just a matter of weeks you will see the differences manifest in your life.\n\nNot accepting a mediocre life means not taking crap from anyone (maybe except for your boss), leveling up and looking your best, thinking positively, planning ahead, and not taking what is offered to you just because it is offered. We only live once, so why not accept only the best 🙂",

| body | <b>Geminis are Misunderstood</b> There have been countless occasions where i can honestly say people have misunderstood me, perhaps most of the time! For us Geminis it takes us a while to open up to people and even longer to trust. At times, our lack of trust can get in the way of being open and free with the people we love. People often mistaken us for being two faced, indecisive, "wishy washy" you name it, but what people don't understand is that behind our two faced and indecisive, demeanor we just want to be understood and respected. We are not truly two faced we just have more than one personality. I know it sounds crazy and bi polar, but we have this sense of self that is unique. We are able to view one thing from multiple perspectives without even forcing it. This is a gift trust me. We can be witty and fun by day and deep and mysterious by night, it really just depends on our mood! You may get wild Gemini on Tuesday and by Wednesday wild Gemini has morphed into serious business mode. This is just who we are! We are not fake and phony we are just multiple people living in one body. I'm sure this explanation is not helping us sound any less crazy but i tried! <b>Geminis Appear Like They Don't Know What They Want</b> Once again this is not true! I am sure any Gemini reading this article can relate to people thinking that we don't know what we want in life. I am grown enough to admit that we do in fact have issues with settling, but, that is simply because we don't want to settle with what we don't want! This is the case with everything. The way a Gemini figures out what we want is through process of elimination. We will try a bunch of stuff and anything we don't like we scrap, it's really that simple. At times we can get caught up in having too many options, but we are bold enough to try everything at least once and then agree that certain things will never be explored again. We also will abandon something half way if it's not what we thought. I think I abandoned quite a few courses in my lifetime the moment i realized it wasn't for me. Once we go through the process to see what we really want, we only want to head in that direction and not waste time. We might change our mind few times along the way, but who doesn't? <b>Geminis Don't Stick Around in Relationships</b> How many times have I heard "You Geminis are just players." I digress, if a Gemini is being a "player" it's because something is lacking with the person their with. The rare Gemini might be a serial cheater but that is coming from some of their own issues internally. I'll admit, it is hard to fully keep a Gemini's attention for a long time, but the whole split personality thing makes it hard for us. When we are in business mode we may want a partner who's a go-getter that encourages and inspires us, and then when we feel like being a wild Gemini we want someone we can have fun with and do wild things together. If our partners can't satisfy both our personalities for the most part then we will feel like things are missing and be tempted to stray to satisfy that missing piece. We also like the feeling of meeting new people and making new friends but that doesn't mean we are looking to sleep with or be with someone else, it's really just a thrill and then we go back home madly in love with our partners. It really just depends. It takes a very special person to keep a Gemini in check, but special people are out there! <b>Geminis Have Multiple Talents </b> Most of the Geminis I know including myself are multi- talented people making it difficult at times to choose one career. Many of us are great communicators, teachers, actors, musicians, writers, entrepreneurs you name it. However, this makes choosing one path to take in life extremely difficult. Geminis do not like being placed in a box and told we can only be and do one thing. We are naturally free spirited and enjoy our freedom very much, but at times it can make life confusing. A lot of us do not fit into the box of norms in our society and it makes us feel stifled if we have to be what everyone else is. A lot of us may find ourselves trying to fit in where we don't belong, simply because we don't know where else to be. Geminis are most happy when we are able to use our talents for the greater good and make money out of it. If we are working a job just to pay the bills and none of our talents are being used we can easily slip into a depression. Happiness and freedom is very important to a Gemini. We usually do whatever it takes to get to that point whether it comes early or later on in life. The advice I give to my fellow Geminis is figure out what you don't like early, go after what you do like, and don't give up. Overall, we Geminis are lovely people to be around, we are full of fun, we are ambitious, we can talk politics one minute and talk about fashion the next, we care about other people A LOT, we can be shy or outgoing depending on our mood, we are smart and witty, we are intuitive, full of ideas, understanding, private and prideful , but we really just want to be one thing, UNDERSTOOD. I hope this article helped just a little bit. |

| body | <b>Geminis are Misunderstood</b> There have been countless occasions where i can honestly say people have misunderstood me, perhaps most of the time! I hope this article helped just a little bit. |

| body | The Working Abroad Journey The moment I knew that working abroad was something I wanted to try I did as much research as I possibly could. As I fell in love with the dream and the idea, I knew I had to be realistic about what I wanted and how I was going to achieve that goal. I started off with watching a lot of videos on YouTube and I mean A LOT. One thing I noticed was most of the vloggers that were posting mostly had videos speaking about the positive aspects of being in Korea which I found very intriguing. One thing I didn’t see much of was advice on all the things that can also go wrong in Korea when you get there. The more research I did the more I realized that there were not as many articles or vlogs talking about the negatives of living in another country especially Korea. I believe personally that perspective is key, and it is very important to have multiple viewpoints on a specific life decision. The good, bad, and ugly details of living abroad have one thing in common, and that is they are all very important information that we need to know before getting to our destination. Research I would always recommend doing the most research you possibly can on the country of your choice but not only that, get out there and speak to people who have done it. Nothing beats having that face to face interaction where you can get the answers to the details you are looking for. It is great to be able to watch the reaction and body language of a person when they speak about their experience. There is a lot of pressure put on vloggers to speak mostly about their positive experiences because they are in fear that they may be scrutinized by other people or their peers, or that maybe their co workers will catch a glimpse of the horrible things they are saying behind their back, and who wouldn’t fear that? However, there are the few articles that will tell you all the bad and not give any solutions as to how to handle them. Either way it is better to be prepared for anything rather than be on cloud 9 and not prepared if things are the opposite of what you expected and your already there. The last thing anyone wants is to be disappointed with their living conditions when your already far away from home, spent your last dollars to get there, and your all alone. Join A Group My next recommendation is to have a support group before you even exit the country. Join Facebook groups that have people from the country you are going to so that you can get support, make new friends, and find out the latest news going on in that country. It’s a great way to network and meet new people outside of wherever you are placed in that country. Join those groups well in advance so you have time to socialize online and read articles about what is currently happening in the country. The people you speak with may also have great advice on how to get settled in, what to do about getting certain necessities like a phone service, and fun activities to do in your area. Visualize, Get in Touch with the Culture Something I wish I did more of was trying to visualize myself in that country. I did a lot of research and watched a lot of videos but I did not submerge myself in the culture as much as I could have. I didn’t take the time to watch the movies and listen to the music to see if it was something I would be able to tolerate for an entire year. Also, get yourself on a foreign food diet. Whatever country you decide to go to make sure you can try the food and get familiar with the smells, tastes, textures, and names. That will help you settle in more than you will ever think and trust me you will thank yourself later. It will also help you to get a climate for what type of food you will get on a regular basis and if you think it is something you can eat for a whole year. Food is one of the biggest things in culture shock, so it is important to try as much as you can before you get there. Go to restaurants serving the food as often as you can, learn to cook some of the food at home, read up on recipes and how the food is made just so you are sure there are no ingredients your body may not agree with, and most importantly check for allergies and if the food made has those ingredients you may be allergic to in them ahead of time. This will make it easier to know what you want when you get to that country and the language barrier won’t cause any surprises when you get your food. Questions Although no amount of questions in the world can fully prepare you for moving across the planet, it is still important to come up with a list of vital questions that you should be asking your recruiters or whoever is looking out for you when you go to that country. There is no such thing as a stupid question, ask, ask, ask. Anything you have concerns about, anything you may be uncomfortable with, or unsure about just ask and you never know what the outcome may be. That one question could save your experience and your sanity! Travelling to that Country I think one thing that I never really considered was going to the country I was planning to live in for a whole year. As much as it is an adventure to go somewhere new and live there, that country may not be for everyone, and the very people that tell you they had an amazing time may have a very different experience than you. I especially believe that sometimes another person’s fascination with a place may not be the same for you. Some people are very in tune with certain cultures and love everything about it, while with others that may not be the case. If you are going somewhere you are unsure about and you don’t know if you will like the culture, and if your serious about moving there, I would suggest going to that country first to visit. This will help you to adapt much faster and get used to the smells, language, lifestyle, customs and all that comes with the country. If you are not able to find the time to go somewhere particularly far first, I would suggest going a week or more in advance before your actual contract date and before orientation so that you are able to look around and feel things out. If the place is too overwhelming or you are not enjoying it, you can at least quickly get out before you get sucked in too deep and feel like you are losing too much if you want to leave later. If you can’t go in advance then prepare yourself for both the good and bad that come with living somewhere new and don’t hesitate to leave if you really don’t feel like you can handle staying in that country for too long. Give yourself some time if the place is not what you expect, and you feel like going home, sometimes you could just be homesick and experiencing culture shock. If the feeling persists after a few months, then you will have to really consider what would work best for you. The best thing to do is try something before cancelling it out, but, if its not for you then don’t force things or your time will be miserable. If you do consider yourself unhappy in this place and you want to return home, speak to family and friends first maybe they can give you some encouragement, have a plan so you can go home to a place to live and some money in your pocket, and try to do some job hunting while you are abroad to find another opportunity somewhere else. Always listen to your intuition if things don’t feel right. There will always be more opportunities elsewhere that you can consider and try again. Not Listening Solely to the Opinions of Others I get it and I completely understand why when someone tells you to try the best smoothie they ever had you would want to try it too, but just remember, not everyone’s taste is going to be your taste. Some people may tell you it was the best time of their lives while others may tell you they hated it, but either way no one can tell you how to feel. Some things in life you have to just try for yourself to see. Don’t let one person’s good or bad experience deter or push you in anyway. Your experience must be your own and you will have to go there for yourself to see if it is something you will enjoy or not. To save yourself time and money I would suggest a lot and I mean A LOT of self reflection to see if this is something you are comfortable with and that you see yourself doing. You must bare in mind that while you are away you will miss a lot of events, family time, and memories that you could have had if you were home and you need to be prepared for that. Being far away from family and friends for a long time is not easy and it can take a toll after a while on your emotional well being. Be prepared to experience ups and downs with living far away and seeing your friends live their lives without you. Do as much soul searching as you can and really decide if this decision would be right for you. If it isn’t that’s okay too. Just know that we all have our own calling and we are not all the same. So, if it doesn’t feel right it probably isn’t the right thing for you and it is time to go find out what is. Get Documents Ready The most stressful part of moving abroad is getting all the documents you need. I will never forget the constant trips to the embassy and constantly running around to get passport pictures, documents, photocopies, notarized documents and of course the TESOL certificate since I was a teacher. Your recruiter will tell you exactly what you need and although this process is time consuming it was a joy every time I got closer to getting my Korean Visa. Make sure you follow all of your recruiter’s instructions and if you are not using a recruiter write everything down and keep track of the list of documents on the embassy’s website that you will need. You will always need a passport that is up to date so don’t ever lose it, be sure to have extra passport photos and enough money to pay for the visa. Make sure your TESOL certificate is legitimate and accepted by your recruiter and be sure to have the original copy. It will be required that you bring the original copy with you to the country you are going to. Throw a Party I think in life we should have any reason to throw a party and what better reason then you deciding to run away for a whole year? Your family and friends will appreciate the quality time they have with you and it will allow you to have those memories with you while you are away. It’s a great time to also drink and live it up with familiar faces before you are submerged into another place where all your party partners will be strangers for the most part. Enjoy to the fullest. Don’t Tell Everyone Too Soon People have a way of looking at the negative side of things before supporting us when making major decisions like moving which can be discouraging. The best thing to do is so tell people when everything is finalized so that you won’t change your mind if negative comments start to come your way. The less time people have to discourage you the better. Sometimes the best plans are the ones left unsaid until the time is right. Trust me there are a lot of dream killers out there and those people will truly show themselves in situations like this. The naysayers may come in the form of family, friends, romantic relationships or even workmates so just be careful how you approach telling people the news. It is still important to listen if someone may have a valuable concern about where you are going as they might know some information that you don’t. Keep an open ear, but your final decision should only be your own. What You Will Do When You Return I know a year sounds like an eternity when you finally make up your mind and decide to do the big move, but really it isn’t. Time goes by very fast when your having fun right? And even faster when you are busy which trust me teaching abroad will keep you on your toes and yes, your eyes will be droopy most of the time. No worries though you will have time to relax and enjoy yourself on weekends and that will make all the difference. A piece of advice I saw time and time again on blogs was don’t waste time while abroad. It is best to use the time and opportunity to really think about your future and what goals you would like to set upon your return. With time comes great ideas so brainstorm, keep a journal, keep a vision board, and continue to plan out how you see your life in the next few years. Although teaching abroad gives you a lot of experience, sometimes your return home may not be as smooth as you think and you may find yourself in the rat race of finding a job with thousands of other people all over again. Finding a job takes time so be sure to have a plan where you can make money for yourself or have some type of savings that you can use as a cushion when the phone calls for interviews don’t come rolling in. Also look at what your experience teaching abroad can do for you in the work force when you return. Is it something that will be of any benefit to you? Or is it just a good getaway plan from your annoying parents? Either way it is important to plan and make sure that you are not just going to waste time and end up stuck when you return. If you have a business you want to start, be sure to plan it out while you are away so that when you come back you can start immediately. If you have a certain career you want to get into do your research while you are away so that you know what to look for when you return. Hell, I would even suggest applying to jobs before you return, not too far in advance of course the last thing you want is to get a call from a great company and have to make excuses for why you can’t make the interview, but plan ahead. Plan to go back to school after? Be sure to stay up to date on what is going on at that school and pay attention to deadline dates for applications, so you don’t miss a thing and you can enroll as soon as you get back. I say all these things to say, have your stuff together so you’re not crying to your mom a few months after you returned because you have no money and no plan. Save, Save, Save Money is always important and that is the main reason you chose to work abroad right? Even if your going just for the experience it doesn’t hurt to have something stacked up in your bank account. The best thing for me with working in Korea was the free rent, so be sure to take advantage of that and do not spend all your money on partying and eating out. The last thing you want is to return home with nothing. Avoid eating out too often, usually you will have burners in your apartment or a stove where you can cook some simple meals to survive on. Also, you can buy a rice cooker, so you can make as much rice as you want, which is always a life saver. In my experience, Korea had a lot of parties going on all the time and I met a lot of other teachers and foreigners who enjoy partying. Although it is important to go out and enjoy yourself don’t get caught up in partying every weekend and spending all your money on taxi rides and liquor. Costs will add up and you will be surprised how little you would have saved upon your return. Go out maybe twice a month and limit the eating out and you will be on your way to being a well off foreigner by the end of the year. If you don’t feel like you need to save than do as you please but make sure you have some comfortable savings when you go back home and can’t get a job right away. Foreigners You will be considered a part of the expat community which means more than likely you will make friends everywhere you go. In my experience Koreans were not the type to really approach unless they had a few drinks at a party so don’t expect every local to come up to you and say hi. A lot of locals were actually very shy and if they don’t speak English they will be intimidated by you. Just be pleasant at all times because you are representing where you are from and the last thing you want is to give off a bad impression. You will however, meet a lot of people from other countries who are not shy at all and would want to approach you and become friends. It is a nice feeling to meet other friendly people like yourself but be aware that sometimes people have other intentions apart from just being friends. Be careful with your belongings if you had some drinks and make sure you take a cab home, do not take rides from strangers if you are alone. In my experience Korea is generally a very safe place but sometimes things can happen anywhere in the world no matter how safe. Other than that, enjoy being a part of a close knitted community, make friends, smile, and be open. You will make some amazing long lasting friendships and memories. If you are a person of color you may experience racism at times. It can be subtle or it can be obvious. Even people who are not of colour have experienced it as well. Just like anywhere else, being different can sometimes draw attention and people will stare or point at you. It does take some getting used to but keep confident and don’t hiss at everyone who looks at you the wrong way. Just expect it and accept it. If anyone says anything rude and inappropriate be sure to exit the conversation and do not allow anything to escalate. If you are working with someone and they say something racist then be sure to let them know how it makes you feel and move on. Sometimes people have no filter and may say things that you don’t expect or that may sound rude, but it is not always intended to be that way. Some cultures are different and may cause some to be less polite according to our culture in North America. Take things with a grain of salt and communicate how you feel. They will get it. It is important to try and follow customs as you are the visitor, so do your best to learn the right things to say and the right actions in moments where you are in a social setting. That will save you in more instances than you think. Learn the Language It is so important to know the language in the country you will be living in as it will make the transition that much easier. There are plenty of language apps that you can use to learn basic phrases and words. If you know someone that is Korean, you could ask them to teach you some words that would assist you with getting around in South Korea. There are also pen pals and language exchange programs online where you can video call with someone who knows the language you want to learn and in return you can teach them English, a win win! The lettering is very different in terms of reading and writing so that will take a while to learn and I don’t mean a few weeks, but it is something you never have to learn if you don’t want to. Just learn the basics like “hello”, “thank you”, along with other basic phrases and you will be surprised at how quickly you will start to learn the language just from being there and hearing people speak. You could also wait until you get to Korea to do a language exchange course. Taking a language exchange course is a great way to meet new people and make some new Korean friends, so I would highly recommend it. |

There will always be more opportunities elsewhere that you can consider and try again. \nNot Listening Solely to the Opinions of Others\nI get it and I completely understand why when someone tells you to try the best smoothie they ever had you would want to try it too, but just remember, not everyone’s taste is going to be your taste. So, if it doesn’t feel right it probably isn’t the right thing for you and it is time to go find out what is.\nGet Documents Ready\nThe most stressful part of moving abroad is getting all the documents you need. \nThrow a Party\nI think in life we should have any reason to throw a party and what better reason then you deciding to run away for a whole year? Your family and friends will appreciate the quality time they have with you and it will allow you to have those memories with you while you are away. It’s a great time to also drink and live it up with familiar faces before you are submerged into another place where all your party partners will be strangers for the most part. Enjoy to the fullest. \nDon’t Tell Everyone Too Soon\nPeople have a way of looking at the negative side of things before supporting us when making major decisions like moving which can be discouraging. \n\nWhat You Will Do When You Return\nI know a year sounds like an eternity when you finally make up your mind and decide to do the big move, but really it isn’t. \n\nSave, Save, Save\nMoney is always important and that is the main reason you chose to work abroad right? \n\nForeigners\nYou will be considered a part of the expat community which means more than likely you will make friends everywhere you go. \n\nLearn the Language \nIt is so important to know the language in the country you will be living in as it will make the transition that much easier. Taking a language exchange course is a great way to meet new people and make some new Korean friends, so I would highly recommend it.",
