| title | What is Leadership Development? |
| body | There are currently over one hundred thousand texts on the market that deal with the concept of leadership development, and this number is continually rising. Roughly 3,000 new texts on this subject are added on a regular basis, each giving a differing viewpoint and opinion on the subject. However, many leaders do not know what leadership development is. This guide will help to explain what leadership development is as well as why it is important in creating successful leaders. ### What is Leadership Development? Leadership development is a process that increases the ability of individuals to perform in leadership roles. Leadership development programs help organization leaders to learn skills that will help them reach their full potential so that they can perform their duties as best as possible. Often time’s, people end up in leadership positions but they do not have experience with being in a leadership role. Leadership development can help them to learn strategies, ideas, and skills that will help them to succeed in their position. What is leadership development? It’s basically a combination of teaching and developing leadership to those who plan to lead others in some way, be it a company, nonprofit, community or team. Those seeking leadership development are often taught through expensive university courses or sometimes in executive retreats. Other times, leadership development will take place directly within a company, with someone there to teach the ropes. ### Why Leadership Development is Important While drive and passion are the most important qualities of a successful leader, there are certain skills that a great leader needs to possess. However, these skills are not always inherent in every individual, but instead they need to be learned. Leadership development can help leaders to learn these skills and apply them to their position. The skills that can be learned through leadership development include: ### What is leadership development? **Perseverance:** A great leader needs to be committed to the goals they are trying to achieve; yet, even for the most driven person, this can be a difficult task. Leadership development training can help individuals to learn skills that will help them to persevere even when times are tough. **Planning and Organization:** Every leader needs to know how to keep everything organized so that the people and tasks they oversee can continue to run on schedule. Leadership training teaches techniques that can help leaders to plan and organize efficiently so that they can better manage their duties. **How to Be Motivating:** One of the most important skills for a leader to have is that they need to be able to motivate those around them. It is important for leaders to learn how to be motivating without being pushy or demanding of those around them; this is a key skill that leadership development can teach. **Oral Communication Skills:** This goes in conjunction with the previous skill. In order to be able to motivate and manage those around you, you need to be able to be an effective communicator, which is often a trait that must be learned. But does direct training really work, or does there have to be some self-guidance along the way so there’s an assimilation of real-world scenarios? ### Teaching Specific Tools There isn’t a doubt that some leadership skills can be taught. Teaching basic goal-setting and visualization for what a leader wants his company to become can be given emphasis. Forbes pointed out, however, that leadership development has to live up to its name and not be focused strictly on training. They say the best practices of great leadership are far too subjective nowadays in the world of high-stakes business. So how does one go about truly developing leadership skills so it’s applied in a real-world scenario? One effective way is through a possible mentor program. ### Learning From Past Experience and in Real Time Learning through the experience of others can develop a leader substantially, even if past experiences may differ extremely from the present or future. Nevertheless, the past usually repeats itself, and it’s no different in the business world. Certain pitfalls can be avoided by learning from what a previous leader might have gone through. What about learning in real time, though? Advisors with leadership experience are always a vital tool in giving suggestions to leaders when some new challenge arises. Even the President of the United States confers with past Presidents and other leaders for advice on handling sensitive matters. This is true real world learning where you learn while doing the actual work. That may have to be the future of how leadership development operates, especially when common situations in the professional world can change on a dime. Most importantly, the moral foundation of a leader may be the most crucial tool as the backbone in handling those real-world scenarios. ### A Final Note on the Ethics of a Leader It’s a shame we see far too many leaders who don’t have a strong sense of ethics. When a leader develops a moral sense of business, the handling of Herculean and all-new business tasks will likely have better outcomes. Anybody out to cheat the system in order to make more money is only going to have it all catch up with them in time as we’ve seen already. That’s why developing a strong ethical foundation in early development will be crucial in creating the superior leaders of tomorrow. And, in fact, you could say leader development starts very early when ethics are formed as a child through one’s family environment. ### Questions? Leadership development training is vital for any leader, as it teaches them how to be as effective as possible in the position they hold. Contact us if you would like to learn more about what leadership training is and how it can benefit you as a leader. Even the President of the United States confers with past Presidents and other leaders for advice on handling sensitive matters. This is true real world learning where you learn while doing the actual work.\n\nThat may have to be the future of how leadership development operates, especially when common situations in the professional world can change on a dime. Most importantly, the moral foundation of a leader may be the most crucial tool as the backbone in handling those real-world scenarios.\n\n### A Final Note on the Ethics of a Leader\nIt’s a shame we see far too many leaders who don’t have a strong sense of ethics. When a leader develops a moral sense of business, the handling of Herculean and all-new business tasks will likely have better outcomes. Anybody out to cheat the system in order to make more money is only going to have it all catch up with them in time as we’ve seen already.\n\nThat’s why developing a strong ethical foundation in early development will be crucial in creating the superior leaders of tomorrow. And, in fact, you could say leader development starts very early when ethics are formed as a child through one’s family environment.\n\n### Questions?\nLeadership development training is vital for any leader, as it teaches them how to be as effective as possible in the position they hold. Contact us if you would like to learn more about what leadership training is and how it can benefit you as a leader. | title | Spiritual Pitfall: Judgment |
| body | “You hate My children; therefore, you hate Me.” Those were the devastating words that rifled across my mind as I finished internally scoffing at a pedestrian for his appearance. It was a beautiful sunny morning as I was driving to work. I was feeling pretty strong in the Spirit, actually. Well, until that happened, anyways. Thought I Was Doing Well Just the evening before, my wife and I had an unpleasant exchange with a parent at our gym’s pool, where we let them know their child was behaving badly. The child wasn’t doing anything too naughty—just haunting our children, saying mean things, sticking her tongue out at them and my wife—typical attention-seeking nonsense that deserves ignoring. Since we would want to know if our own children were behaving like this, we decided to let the mother know. This is what we explained to her. To our surprise, she completely rejected the notion her child could be in error and said maybe it’s best our children stay away from each other. What? Well, while this didn’t bother me very much, the unsavory exchange ate at my wife for hours afterward; even into the next morning. I had the benefit of having soaked in Dan Mohler’s message of our identity in Christ’s love for a couple weeks now, so I was relatively unphased. I understood the Christian response was to love and pray for that family—not fret over their defensive response. I was in a good place, I thought. That night, during bedtime prayers with the kids, we prayed for the Holy Spirit to work on that family and ourselves, that we may grow in our own capacity to love others the way Jesus loves us. As Pastor Dan points out, can you imagine if God loved us the way we love others? Can you imagine Jesus complaining to the Father about us? Because we mistreat each other? Use harsh words? Lie? Carry lust or envy or contempt in our hearts? Ridiculous. So why—if we’re following Christ and keeping our eyes on God—do we let anything or anyone in the flesh knock us off course. The very fact we can be distressed by the world around us is evidence we don’t know who we are in Christ or how great our value is. Can you imagine Jesus scoffing at someone moving down the sidewalk happily minding their own business? No. Neither can I. Fortunately for us, He doesn’t love the way we do. He calls us to love the way He loves us. But in a flash, I noticed this stranger and compared them against a social model for what it means to look “proper”. Then I failed them. They were cut off in my own eyes. In an instant. I didn’t even know them. Judgment. Based on appearances. Based on the physical. I was operating from the flesh. I was not in the Spirit as deeply as I hoped. That was when those words separated my thoughts: “You hate My children; therefore, you hate Me.” Crushing words. I had been praying for greater capacity to love. To be emptied out and made a larger vessel for pouring out His love. With hours of soaking in Dan Mohler videos on YouTube, I was doing better on this wavelength, I thought. I was weathering things better at home, and at the office—even at the pool. I thought I was getting it. And maybe I am. But in this moment, I was not love. I was a wretch, thinking wretched thoughts. I won’t even tell you what the guy looked like. I don’t want to allow you to step into judgment with me on this. But I do want you to listen to your thoughts and confess the thoughts that are unworthy of His holy presence. Home for the Holidays Years ago, after I had lived out-of-state for a few years, I came back home to visit for the Christmas holiday. Prior to the visit, I had been shocked and appalled to see my thoughts from the outside. I noticed how judgmental I had been, how I had been assessing everyone and myself. I noticed the critical eye through which I was perceiving the world. When I realized how polluted my thinking was, I became frantic. I was disgusted. As I said back then, I carved that thinking out of myself with a dull spoon. The first step to healing our blind spots is to bring them into the light, right? Awareness. However, when I came home that holiday season, I gained new insight. I saw judgment everywhere. My own family would even see people on the television screen and make critical comments. Again, I was appalled. I told them so. While my observation wasn’t appreciated at the time, it did end the public feast of criticism. Thankful for Correction Fast-forward to this morning. After days of successfully loving on people through their issues—through their conflicts and tantrums—in one brief moment of silence, the fallen me peeked out and made its presence known. My prayer looked like this: Thank you, Father, for loving me enough to correct me. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, for speaking into my awareness and for showing me the gravity of this sin. Please forgive me. I would ask that you send your Holy Spirit down upon me to purge and burn of anything in me that is not of You. Please take this thinking from me—this spirit of hatred—and burn it at the foot of your cross. I’m sorry. Please forgive me. I ask this in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen. Of course, I’m not 100% sure the criticism came from within me. Sometimes things are whispered into our thoughts, but really, I’m pretty sure it was me (unfortunately.) So I’m pleased I was pained over it. That tells me my heart is on the right path. I thank the Holy Spirit for pointing it out and I’m asking the Holy Spirit to continue His work in me. Thank you, Father. |

| title | I See You Looking |
| body | As you look, I see you searching for that one thing that can fulfill you. — You look at clothes and try to find the perfect item. You find it; it looks great. You buy it. Two months from now, it’s just another shirt or pair of shoes in your closet. — I see you looking, climbing that corporate ladder because when you reach vice president you think you will fulfill your dream. After 10 years of hard work and sacrifice you finally made it. Then one year later, you feel unfulfilled and want to be president of your own company. — I see you looking, thinking that winning the lottery will fulfill you. But the $10,000 you just spent left you wanting more. — I see you looking thinking that a great steak or Chicago-style pizza, or backyard barbecue will satisfy, but hours after you’re full, you’re hungry again. It’s like the Rolling Stones said: I can’t get no satisfaction. — I see you looking as you walk by our stand. In your head, you are saying I don’t need that. It’s just like I once thought, “That’s for the weak, the stupid, the gullible, because there is no God.” I see you looking! Now you are here looking to drink, eat, chill or find that perfect somebody. Can’t you see these things don’t satisfy forever? God put eternity in your heart. The hole you’re trying to fill cannot be filled with things or people. You have been on the treadmill of life chasing a carrot just out of reach, thinking—if you got it—you would be satisfied. It’s a lie. It is what you are rejecting is the only thing that can fulfill your soul. Nothing is eternal but God. Only He can fill us. It is God who must become a part of your life. — I hope you see now or you will keep searching and, when you die, you will be without Him. You are like a son or daughter who was adopted at birth and felt things were not right. Then the knowledge comes that you were adopted and your birth parents were out there, so now you are searching. But God didn’t abandon you. He made you and loves you and desires that you come home to Him. It was our sin that separated us from God. You were born into it and by choice of your sin you were kept from our loving Father God. So the Father sent His son, Jesus, to bring us back together. He sent Him to take away the barrier between us and Him; our sin. Since we all have lied, that makes us a liar. Since we have stolen, regardless of size, that makes us a thief. Since we have had sex or looked with lust outside of marriage, we are adulterers of heart and body. Even if we have done just one thing wrong that separates you from God. — Jesus came to live a perfect life; a life without sin. Then Jesus died for all the sins that we committed. He was placed on a cross to be crucified and after three days He rose from the grave. So for you and I to be complete, we must believe He died for us. Be willing to turn from sin. Believe that He rose from the grave. Ask Him to forgive you of your sins and receive Him as your Lord and Savior. You will be forgiven. You will receive eternal life and be restored into an eternal relationship with GOD, your Father. It all starts with a prayer like this from your heart: “Jesus, I am a sinner. I cannot save myself. I turn from my sin and believe that you died for me on the cross to take away my sins. I believe that, after three days, you rose from the dead. I believe you are my Savior and my Lord. I now follow you and give you the rest of my days. In Jesus’ name, amen.” If you have prayed that from your heart and have confessed Jesus as your Lord, your sins are forgiven and you have been adopted into the family of God. You are complete in Christ and have been made a new person. You are now a son or daughter of God. Now to understand what God has done for you and the relationship He has with you, please read your Bible and pray to Him. Go to a Bible-believing church to fellowship with other believers. Go out and tell others about Him, as we have you. Your looking is over. You have found eternal life in Jesus. S.B. |

| title | Bringing Article Marketing to Steemit? |
| body | Today, article marketing is probably one of the most powerful and inexpensive forms of online marketing available to small business owners and non-profits. For those not savvy with the term “__article marketing__”, here is a quick definition: *In exchange for a little sweat and focus, an article author (you) shares their wisdom and experience with the world by posting their short article of advice or insight to blogs, social media and article publication sites. Within those articles are one-way links leading back into the author’s own website, raising their website’s “authority” karma with the search engines and increasing their qualified web traffic.* ## You Are the Expert Here is a little mental preparation for you. I want to make sure you are looking at article marketing—and yourself—through the proper lens. When you produce articles, it is your goal to encapsulate gems of experience-hardened wisdom and share them with the online community. In doing so, you: * Help to advise those who are seeking that knowledge, and you * Position yourself as an expert on the topic. (Important!) __Warning:__ Don’t get caught on the term “expert.” Many humble folks who are vastly knowledgeable about their industry wouldn’t refer to themselves as experts because they are also aware there is much they don’t know. You don’t have to know it all. You just need to know more than your customers and then know where to find the answers when you are stumped. ## Your Mission: Inspire, Inform, Entertain Your primary goal in business is to help, right? Businesses and non-profit organizations provide products and services with the intent of helping people. (Naïve? Maybe. Choosing to see the best? Definitely.) That might mean helping to: * Provide a solution to a problem, * Offer inspiration, motivation or elevation, * Foster greater awareness to a social concern, or even to * Entertain and enthrall. The best place to start? Begin with what you know. Offer advice. Offer your life experience. Offer sagacious words of wisdom. Expound and elucidate. Maybe even do a little research. Article marketing is your vehicle for taking your wisdom to your audience, answering their questions before their questions have bubbled up. ## Step 1: Target Your Topic What do you specialize in? What do you know a lot about? What is the point to your website? After all, the goal of any article marketing campaign is to place articles of value out into the world and grow your number of back links (links that point back to your website from another website.) Google and other popular search engines/directories see these links leading into your website as proof you must be something of an authority. __Translation:__ On the Internet, you are somebody important if other people say you are. It’s like high school all over again! Yeah! ## Step 2: Write the Article To begin marketing with articles, you must write the articles. No kidding. Sure, there is some work involved here, but the rewards can be great as qualified traffic to your website increases. Yes, I’m aware there are certain sources for pre-written articles on a myriad of topics, however I would recommend against putting your name on other people’s work. Call me paranoid, but here are some possible dangers with this: * Loss of credibility and damage to your reputation when it’s discovered you’re not writing your own material, * Being called upon to discuss a topic you barely considered to begin with, and * Being accountable for someone else’s errors if they pop up. __Remember:__ One of the greatest things about writing is the fact you’re building an asset when you write. You are building a body of reproducible and shareable knowledge. This is what “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” author, Rob Kiyosaki, refers to as “doing it once and replicating it over and over.” To write an article, you don’t have to be a Harvard literature graduate, but you should know how to complete a thought, hold a one-way conversation with a friend, and use spellcheck. First, know what your goal is for your article. What is your point? Being clear on this will help keep you on track as craft your introduction, body and conclusion. Next, pretend you are relaying this information to a friend. What would you say? How would you counsel this friend if they came to you seeking this advice? Finally, use spellcheck. Proofread, proofread, proofread. Read the article aloud to test for smooth flow and phrasing. Ferret out all typos, grammatical errors and punctuation gaffs. If missed, these mistakes can detract from your writing and credibility. ## The Resource Box The last detail you’ll consider for your article will be your resource box. Your resource box is the little paragraph at the end of your article that tells the reader a little about you and how to contact you. It should always include a link to your website. Always. You want your readers to be able to find you if they desire more information and you want the search engines to see you as an authority through that back link, remember? __Key point:__ In your resource box, you don’t always have to use the same link back to your website’s homepage. In fact, you will likely have greater success by linking to the page on your site most closely related to your article’s topic. This moves visitors from the article directly to their topic of interest. (For example, if a web design company also offers web hosting, their article “How to pick the best web host” should link back to the page on their website that describes their web hosting services.) ## Step 3: Launch! There! You have produced a shiny little gem of literary brilliance. Now it is time to set it free. * Place it on your blog (if you have one and if it fits appropriately.) * Share it with Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and your other social media outlets. You can post it over and over by hand or use tools like PingFM to automate this process. * Submit your article to free article directories! Here are the top 10 most popular article directories, according to list of the top 50, found at http://www.vretoolbar.com/articles/directories.php: 1. seekingalpha.com 1. ehow.com 1. hubpages.com 1. biggerpockets.com/articles 1. ezinearticles.com 1. brighthub.com 1. buzzle.com 1. textbroker.com 1. selfgrowth.com 1. knoji.com/articles/ Use an article submission software or service to shorten this process. One good example is isnare.com. Feeling brave? Record your article as you read it into a microphone and post it to iTunes. Braver still? Use your digital video camera and post your work to YouTube, Vimeo and the like. ## Step 4: Track Your Results Just because you’ve accomplished the first three steps of deciding, drafting and delivering your article, don’t think you’re done! You should be watching to see how this article affects your traffic. Did you see an increase? Did your website’s conversion rate (the number of calls, emails, sign-ups, sales, etc.) edge up? If not, did your article compel people to want to know more? Did it provide enough value? Was it placed properly? __Marketing Tip:__ Use the powerful and free traffic-tracking tool, Google Analytics (https://www.google.com/analytics). Design your Analytics reports and schedule them to automatically arrive in your inbox as frequently as you like. ## Step 5: Rinse and Repeat Now do it again. Find different-but-related categories to place your articles under so they don’t compete with each other. Discuss different aspects of products and services you offer. Determine how often you will produce and post your articles. This depends on how intensely you will run your article marketing campaign. You’ll need to weigh your priorities against your normal day-to-day workload, your goals and the competitiveness of your industry. If you’re just starting out, aim to write weekly or bi-weekly articles using the promotional campaign in Step 3 as a model. If you are an ambitious writer or blogger, step up your efforts to daily and spread your articles across the media outlets. __Marketing Tip:__ Since you’re writing these articles anyways, you may as well post them to your website to keep your site’s content fresh. Then place them in your online newsletter and send them to your mailing list. ## Afterglow At this point, you have enough of a blueprint to successfully manage your own article marketing campaign. Writing articles can be a fun way to promote your website and your effort, but it can also be a great way to collect your thoughts and bring greater clarity to challenges you and your audience may be facing. Use articles to entertain, educate and inspire! In support of your efforts, Matthew |
