It would take a lot of time to explain why/how, but all of the graphics in this article are very misleading, or just downright non-sensical. (yes, that's a word - because I'm using it.) Look at the citations too - almost all of them are from sources who have a well known anti-gun agenda.\n\nHere's what a well known media outlet with an anti-gun agenda has to say about the stats:\n\n\"The 90 US mass shootings are nearly one-third of the 292 such attacks globally for that period. While the United States has 5% of the world's population, it had 31% of all public mass shootings.\"\n(Source: https://www.cnn.com/2015/08/27/health/u-s-most-mass-shootings/index.html )\n\nOkay great - I think we're getting somewhere here. Where did they get those statistics? ALWAYS ask that question.\n\nhttps://www.infoplease.com/us/crime/timeline-worldwide-school-and-mass-shootings\n\nI'm convinced. The U.S. does have a unique problem with mass shootings. \n\nFor this post, I would like to limit the discussion to school shootings only, as other mass shootings add many other elements to the discussion.\n\nWhat to do about this problem? What has already been done to prevent these?\n\nNot a whole lot. The only real change that's been made in the recent years I am aware of is the restrictions on large capacity magazines for \"assault weapons.\" (by the way, that term was invented by the anti-gun lobby. the AR-15 is not an \"assault weapon,\" it's just another semi-automatic rifle.) \n\nI'm sure some schools have added armed guards/police to the payroll. Some have built fences around them to keep the kids safe. So now a bunch of schools are a lot like prisons - great solution. I'm sure that makes a great learning environment.\n\nA lot of folks believe the solution is more gun control. Some others think background checks and mental health documentation will prevent this. \n\n$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$\nThey won't. Plain and simple. The people that are committing these crimes do not care about laws - because they are criminals. Go head - put all kind of extra gun laws on the books. Make it harder for law-abiding citizens to defend themselves. Meanwhile, the criminals keep on doing what they do - ignoring laws. As far as the mental health aspect - it is not predictable. That is the nature of mental illness. We can keep a mental health profile on everyone - make it mandatory that everyone gets evaluated every few years or so, and keep a national database. Oh wait...our government already does that. They use the data from our online presence and that spits out a % chance of a mass shooting. What about the folks that don't have an online presence? You're right! He also does my taxes, so I was hoping to pick his brain about some ways to make passive income with ecommerce while we make sure not to steal back too much money from Uncle Sam. Until recently, our dynamic was simple. I would leave for work an hour or so before my wife, and get home about an hour and half after her. She would usually make sure I had something for lunch, and plenty of snacks in the fridge. While having dinner ready when I got home was a rarity, there was always some leftovers we could reheat. \n\nRegardless, when we saw each other in the evening, we each knew what the other did that day - made money.\n\nNow, though, that dynamic is disappeared. In it's void is this new thing. It's weird. It's awkward. I don't know what it's supposed to look like. Every day she comes home from work and asks, \"So what did you do today?\" I know she is genuinely interested in what I did, but for some reason my man-brain just hears \"how much a lazy ass were you today?\" Maybe it's just some left-over guilt from when I was younger and slacked off, wasting a good portion of my youth. Or maybe it's because I have no idea what my potential is, or what I \"should\" be doing.\n\nI imagine if I were working full time, and my partner stayed home, I would want to see some evidence of their productivity. It's not exactly a trust thing. I don't think that's the issue. I just feel like she needs to see that evidence daily so it doesn't create trust issues. If I came home and everyday she was just lounging around or taking a nap with a load of dishes clogging up the sink, my first impression would not be good either. \n\nMore so now than ever before, impressions are everything. If I bust my ass all day on any given project, and my wife comes home to a napping husband and dishes in the sink, (yes, that's just her thing) what I accomplished that day doesn't matter - she will be upset.\n\nIf, on the other hand, she comes home to an empty sink and I she can see that I was working on something, we are all good. It's weird how that works. The one thing I'm not entirely sure about is my reason for making sure I'm busy when she gets home. Half the time I think I do it just because that's what I would want if I were her.       "body": "Today is my last day at my job. I am getting laid off from a well paying job as an automotive service advisor, that I enjoy.\n\nNow, most folks would greet this sort of unexpected news with a lot of FUD(Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt). In tough situations I like to borrow some Buddhist philosophy - namely - Events happen, then we react to them. We often cannot control the events, but we CAN control our emotions. \n\nMy initial reaction to those words \"I have to let you go\" were...oh lord what will my wife think?\n\n![IMG_1792.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmb3z8ciJcjMXJb9S81onrEsQWFvQpsafjgSU2D4ARK83A/IMG_1792.JPG)\n(me on the far left, my wife, and her family)\n\nTurns out, after giving her all the details, we both arrived at the same reaction - excitement.\n\nWe have chosen not to give in to despair. Instead, we look forward to the next chapter in our lives and what that has to offer.\n\nTo begin, I am going to take a brief sabbatical. My first priority, as boring as it is, will be to catch up on some projects around my house. We have already purged our possessions a bit, in an effort to become more minimalists. I plan de-cluttering, cleaning, fixing, and handy-manning the crap out of my house. I love gardening, so i plan to expand my growing space, among other things.\n\nIn the first phase I plan to take some unemployment benefits. After all, I have been paying into all these social programs, and have never taken advantage of them. Between some crypto trading, and tutoring high school and college students, I hope to keep some time free for other interests.\n\nI want to put some time into my relationships, which have been neglected due to being gone 12+hours a day for my job and commute. I have wonderful friends I have set aside in priority of seeking wealth. \n\nI would like to make a commitment to my future followers. In addition to making weekly posts on this blog, I will be starting a youtube/Dtube channel in conjunction with the blog. My goal is to create a support group for individuals either in similar situations as myself, or people looking for effective ways to free themselves from the 50 hour work week.\n\nAs you will learn in future posts, my wife and I have had a turbulent past few months. We have been fortunate enough to travel abroad and decided that should be a goal of ours - to continue traveling and exploring all the wonderful things the world has to offer. I will be traveling from Indiana, where I live, to Colorado to spend some time with my parents and sister. We also want to plan a trip to Asia - spend some time in Japan, Thailand, South Korea. After all, no job I start will give me enough vacation time to go there.\n\nWhat you will see in future posts will be the day-to-day efforts of a man with a desire to provide the best possible future for his family. \n\nI would be remiss to at least not attempt to provide the ideal lifestyle for us. I want flexibility in my work schedule. I want multiple sourced passive income. I want freedom to travel and see my family. I want time to nurture our future children. I don't want them to be raised by strangers. I want liberty.\n\nSo I invite you all to join me in our mutual quest to live a life more in line with our own personal values, as opposed to the ones society as whole values.\n\nI am looking forward to helping each other in many ways.
