| title | Bitcoin Core Breaks $8,000! - Daily Analysis - 11/16/17 |
| body | **General Daily Trends** *Bitcoin Core* At the time of writing, Core is at a new all time high of $8,014.00. This comes as the dust settles after an insane week for cryptocurrency. Bitcoin Core plummeted to the upper $5,800s, before bouncing back today to break $8,000 and hit a new ATH. Bitcoin’s market dominance is still down, at 57%. It was as low as 49% at some points last week. The market cap is also at an all time high, approaching $130 billion. Charts suggest that Bitcoin will experience a correction shortly, however, due to this massive growth over the past few days. Good time to sell high. Over the weekend, it’s highly possible that Bitcoin Cash experiences another pump, given that Bitcoin Core is now at a new ATH and Bitcoin Cash is at about a 1 week low. As such, Bitcoin may experience another significant drop shortly, though it’s very hard to be certain. *Bitcoin Cash* Since I last wrote an article, it’s been a BIG week for Bitcoin Cash. It skyrocketed up, far higher than my projections, to over $2,200, marking over 250% gains within only a few days. Just as fast as it blasted up, it shot back down to around $1,500, and has been steadily decreasing since, now at around $1,000. This blast in price has become known as the “Bitcoin Civil War,” pitting r/Bitcoin and r/BTC against one another, trying to make users choose sides. Bitcoin Cash advocates claim that Bitcoin Cash is a necessary adoption for Bitcoin, and that it will replace the Core chain within a few months. Outside of the endless politics regarding BCH and BTC, it is likely that BCH gets pumped again this weekend, possibly up to a new high. Lots of underhanded Telegram schemes and Discord groups have been coordinating to artificially pump the prices of cryptocurrencies to gain money - a practice illegal in the stock world, however unregulated within crypto. I’m still hodling a few thousand in BCH. I expect it to go back up soon, at which point I may trade out to Bitcoin Core or another altcoin. *Etherium* While Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin were duking it out over last weekend, Etherium experienced slow but steady growth, up to stabilize around $330. Surprisingly, Etherium seems to be a better and less volatile store of value at this point. I’m beginning to personally consider it the gold of the cryptocurrency world, as it’s value has remained remarkably consistent even as other currencies are fluctuating wildly. **Major Events/Miscellanious** *Bitcoin Core vs. Bitcoin Cash* Obviously I’m going to have to take a personal stance on this at some point, so in the spirit of full disclosure, here’s my bias: I support Bitcoin Cash. I see the increased blocksize as a 100% necessary fix, and the fees of Bitcoin have led me to believe that Bitcoin Cash will replace Bitcoin Core. It may not be in the next month, or the next 6 months. But I truly believe it will happen, especially with the increasing adoption of it. Outside of my personal beliefs, both sides of the “conflict” have been horrible. r/Bitcoin has been openly censoring pro-BCH posts, and Core activists hurled countless insults at Cash supporters. Even on r/BTC, many users called for the end of Bitcoin Core, claiming that all the people still invested in it deserved to lose their money. I’d like to separate myself from both communities. In the future, as I said, I see it as inevitable that Cash replaces Core. But honestly, it’s impossible to predict when that will happen. So for now, I’m holding most of my BCH and trying to play the extremely volatile market as best I can. *Square Implementing Bitcoin* The popular mobile payment app Square has begun implementing Bitcoin trading as an option, citing that users highly requested it as the reason. They’ve only implemented it with a “small number” of users so far, but they claim it will be widely implemented in the near future. This is great news for Bitcoin. The more commonly used and more accepted it is, the higher the price goes, and the closer we get to the end goal of replacing fiat currency. Square also saw a jump in stock price to their all time high of $41.80. This is similar to Overstock, who saw a large jump in stock price after announcing they would accept cryptocurrency. **Further Reading** http://www.businessinsider.com/bitcoin-price-and-square-stock-up-2017-11 https://cointelegraph.com/news/buyer-beware-cryptocurrency-pump-and-dump-schemes-coordinated-in-telegram https://cointelegraph.com/news/bitcoin-breaks-through-8000-following-massive-head-fake http://www.businessinsider.com/ico-cryptocurrency-pump-and-dump-telegram-2017-11 **Final Note** First off, sorry for the lack of posts the past week. I’ve been crazy busy, and it’s been hard finding time. I run solely off of your generous upvotes, and donations. It takes 2 seconds to drop an upvote, which directly helps me continue to write consistently. If you wish to take it a step further, feel free to donate to me directly through Bitcoin (Core or Cash). I’d like to separate myself from both communities.\n\nIn the future, as I said, I see it as inevitable that Cash replaces Core. But honestly, it’s impossible to predict when that will happen. So for now, I’m holding most of my BCH and trying to play the extremely volatile market as best I can.\n\n*Square Implementing Bitcoin*\n\nThe popular mobile payment app Square has begun implementing Bitcoin trading as an option, citing that users highly requested it as the reason. They’ve only implemented it with a “small number” of users so far, but they claim it will be widely implemented in the near future.\n\nThis is great news for Bitcoin. The more commonly used and more accepted it is, the higher the price goes, and the closer we get to the end goal of replacing fiat currency. Square also saw a jump in stock price to their all time high of $41.80. This is similar to Overstock, who saw a large jump in stock price after announcing they would accept cryptocurrency.\n\n**Further Reading**\n\nhttp://www.businessinsider.com/bitcoin-price-and-square-stock-up-2017-11\n\nhttps://cointelegraph.com/news/buyer-beware-cryptocurrency-pump-and-dump-schemes-coordinated-in-telegram\n\nhttps://cointelegraph.com/news/bitcoin-breaks-through-8000-following-massive-head-fake\n\nhttp://www.businessinsider.com/ico-cryptocurrency-pump-and-dump-telegram-2017-11\n\n**Final Note**\n\nFirst off, sorry for the lack of posts the past week. I’ve been crazy busy, and it’s been hard finding time.\n\nI run solely off of your generous upvotes, and donations. It takes 2 seconds to drop an upvote, which directly helps me continue to write consistently. If you wish to take it a step further, feel free to donate to me directly through Bitcoin (Core or Cash). | title | SegWit2x Lives On?? - Daily Analysis - 11/9/17 |
| body | **General Daily Trends** *Bitcoin* Bitcoin was one of the only cryptocurrencies in the red today, down between 2% and 4% throughout the day. The high for today was around $7,469, and the low about $7,101. The market cap dipped slightly below $120 billion at a few points around the day, but recovered quickly. Bitcoin’s market dominance is down over 2% today, as other altcoins see growth up to 30%, while Bitcoin sees a slight decline. After the SegWit2x fork was cancelled (this will be discussed more shortly), Bitcoin spiked to a new all time high of $7,737, before falling back down more than $600 within hours. Now that SegWit2x no longer has the support it previously had, it is certain that Bitcoin Core (1MB) will retain dominance through November 16th. This opens the door for continued slow growth. I expect Bitcoin to reach, and stabilize over $8,000 before the end of 2017. *Bitcoin Cash* Bitcoin Cash, like many other altcoins, saw huge growth today, up almost 7.5% at the time of writing. The cause of this is likely Rodger Ver’s announcement that Bitcoin.com, his mining group that holds over 0.7% of Bitcoin’s hashpower under its direct control, will be going all in on Bitcoin Cash if the fork fails. I’m hodling my BCH for now. With this new announcement, and the full backing of Bitcoin.com, we can break $700 for the first time since August, and start seeing sustained growth. If other miners begin to switch as well, this could be a very good investment. *Etherium* As predicted, Etherium recovered very quickly from the Parity incident, and pushed up to $326 today, with its first significant rally in nearly a month. The price will probably correct soon, however, returning to around $300. As Etherium users consider a hard fork to get back the $300 million lost in the Parity incident, however the price could become increasingly volatile, though the fork (if it happens) would likely be very popular among the community. *Notable Altcoins/Tokens for Today* NEM - Up 10.5% IOTA - Up 15.5% CARDANO - Up 27% POPULOUS - Up 26% BITSHARES - Up 19.7% SIACOIN - Up 29% RAIDEN NETWORK TOKEN - Up 71.76% **Major Events/Miscellanious** *SegWit2x Called Off - But Might Still Be On?* This occurred yesterday around midday. Some of the major leaders pushing for the SegWit2x fork announced that they would no longer be supporting the hard fork, expected to occur in only 7 days. However, some groups still claim that the fork will still occur. Specifically Bitpico, a little known mining group that claims to control over 30% of the hashrate. They announced that “backing down the difficulty right now is a strategy. Wonder why 30% network hash-rate disappeared? It’s ours; the miners that will continue what is set in motion. A handful of humans cannot stop what they have no control over.” Honestly, nobody really knows who Bitpico is, or how/if they have as much hashpower as they claim to have. Some speculate that Bitpico is a new group, composed of miners and individuals who lost money in SegWit2x Futures, as its value crashed down over 85% after it was announced that the fork would be called off. 30% of hashpower is still enough to do some serious damage to Bitcoin’s transaction speeds and fees. So essentially, while the fork was officially called off, it may still be happening. *Bitcoin.com Goes All in on Bitcoin Cash* Rodger Ver’s Bitcoin.com, the most notable supporter of both the Bitcoin Cash fork and the SegWit2x fork, has announced that, if SegWit2x fails to go through, they will turn all of their resources towards Bitcoin Cash. This is huge news for not only the Bitcoin Cash community, but for Bitcoin Core as well - if Bitcoin loses 0.7% of its hashpower, as is expected to happen, it could start a trend of miners moving towards Bitcoin Cash. And, Bitcoin.com’s full support for Bitcoin Cash will invariably boost the price a ton, as already seen today. **Further Reading** https://www.forbes.com/sites/cbovaird/2017/11/08/bitcoin-approaches-8000-as-cryptos-surge/#40e8c0913f57 https://lists.linuxfoundation.org/pipermail/bitcoin-segwit2x/2017-November/000685.html https://news.bitcoin.com/bitpico-claims-segwit2x-still-alive-despite-evidence-contrary/ https://cointelegraph.com/news/segwit-death-challenge-bitpico-vows-to-fork-as-bitcoincom-goes-100-bitcoin-cash **Final Note** I run solely off of your generous upvotes, and donations. "title": "SegWit2x Lives On?? - Daily Analysis - 11/9/17",
"body": "\n\n**General Daily Trends**\n\n*Bitcoin*\n\nBitcoin was one of the only cryptocurrencies in the red today, down between 2% and 4% throughout the day. \n\nAfter the SegWit2x fork was cancelled (this will be discussed more shortly), Bitcoin spiked to a new all time high of $7,737, before falling back down more than $600 within hours. \n\nNow that SegWit2x no longer has the support it previously had, it is certain that Bitcoin Core (1MB) will retain dominance through November 16th. This opens the door for continued slow growth. I expect Bitcoin to reach, and stabilize over $8,000 before the end of 2017.\n\n*Bitcoin Cash*\n\nBitcoin Cash, like many other altcoins, saw huge growth today, up almost 7.5% at the time of writing. The cause of this is likely Rodger Ver’s announcement that Bitcoin.com, his mining group that holds over 0.7% of Bitcoin’s hashpower under its direct control, will be going all in on Bitcoin Cash if the fork fails.\n\nI’m hodling my BCH for now. With this new announcement, and the full backing of Bitcoin.com, we can break $700 for the first time since August, and start seeing sustained growth. If other miners begin to switch as well, this could be a very good investment. \n\n*Etherium*\n\nAs predicted, Etherium recovered very quickly from the Parity incident, and pushed up to $326 today, with its first significant rally in nearly a month. The price will probably correct soon, however, returning to around $300. \n\nAs Etherium users consider a hard fork to get back the $300 million lost in the Parity incident, however the price could become increasingly volatile, though the fork (if it happens) would likely be very popular among the community.\n\n*Notable Altcoins/Tokens for Today*\n\nNEM - Up 10.5%\nIOTA - Up 15.5%\nCARDANO - Up 27%\nPOPULOUS - Up 26%\nBITSHARES - Up 19.7%\nSIACOIN - Up 29%\nRAIDEN NETWORK TOKEN - Up 71.76%\n\n\n**Major Events/Miscellanious**\n\n*SegWit2x Called Off - But Might Still Be On?*\n\nThis occurred yesterday around midday. Some of the major leaders pushing for the SegWit2x fork announced that they would no longer be supporting the hard fork, expected to occur in only 7 days. \n\nHowever, some groups still claim that the fork will still occur. Specifically Bitpico, a little known mining group that claims to control over 30% of the hashrate. They announced that “backing down the difficulty right now is a strategy. Wonder why 30% network hash-rate disappeared? It’s ours; the miners that will continue what is set in motion. A handful of humans cannot stop what they have no control over.”\n\nHonestly, nobody really knows who Bitpico is, or how/if they have as much hashpower as they claim to have. Some speculate that Bitpico is a new group, composed of miners and individuals who lost money in SegWit2x Futures, as its value crashed down over 85% after it was announced that the fork would be called off. \n\n30% of hashpower is still enough to do some serious damage to Bitcoin’s transaction speeds and fees. So essentially, while the fork was officially called off, it may still be happening.\n\n*Bitcoin.com Goes All in on Bitcoin Cash*\n\nRodger Ver’s Bitcoin.com, the most notable supporter of both the Bitcoin Cash fork and the SegWit2x fork, has announced that, if SegWit2x fails to go through, they will turn all of their resources towards Bitcoin Cash. This is huge news for not only the Bitcoin Cash community, but for Bitcoin Core as well - if Bitcoin loses 0.7% of its hashpower, as is expected to happen, it could start a trend of miners moving towards Bitcoin Cash. And, Bitcoin.com’s full support for Bitcoin Cash will invariably boost the price a ton, as already seen today.\n\n\n**Further Reading**\n\nhttps://www.forbes.com/sites/cbovaird/2017/11/08/bitcoin-approaches-8000-as-cryptos-surge/#40e8c0913f57\n\nhttps://lists.linuxfoundation.org/pipermail/bitcoin-segwit2x/2017-November/000685.html\n\nhttps://news.bitcoin.com/bitpico-claims-segwit2x-still-alive-despite-evidence-contrary/\n\nhttps://cointelegraph.com/news/segwit-death-challenge-bitpico-vows-to-fork-as-bitcoincom-goes-100-bitcoin-cash\n\n**Final Note**\n\nI run solely off of your generous upvotes, and donations. | title | Former Editor at 71Republic.com, Now Analyzing Cryptocurrency Full Time Here! |
| body | Hey Steemit! I’m finally writing a #introduceyourself post. My name is Max Bibeau, and I am a former Senior Editor at 71Republic.com. I am extremely passionate about economics, specifically cryptocurrency. I discovered Bitcoin in early 2016, and first bought Bitcoin in early 2017. Since then, I have being doing extensive research and reading over the subject, and would like to share my opinions and knowledge on the topic. I resigned from my position at 71Republic less than a week ago, and have started solely writing here. I will try to post once or twice daily, with one post being about a specific subject I would like to discuss, and the other being a daily update in which I summarize some major currency trends for the day, and then discuss daily events that occurred. I am extremely excited to grow this page, and I would greatly appreciate it if you would drop me a follow and begin viewing my content! |

| title | Major Etherium Wallet Parity Freezes Funds - Daily Analysis - 11/7/17 |
| body | **General Daily Trends** *Bitcoin* Today was a suprisingly stable day for Bitcoin given yesterday’s downward trend. Today’s high was $7,154, and the low was only around $7,045, a difference of only $109. The market cap also made a recovery today, surging to over $119 billion before dropping down back near today’s low of $117 billion. As of right now, the market cap seems to be increasing again. Bitcoin is looking like it will bounce back from yesterday’s almost $500 drop in price relatively quickly, at least temporarily. Bitcoin’s market dominance is also remaining stable at about 60%. The SegWit2x Fork is still the greatest short term threat facing Bitcoin, with there being a large chance of altcoins spiking in value as the fork grows ever closer. With any luck, the fork will not have a long term impact on Bitcoin, and either the 1x or 2x chain will emerge as the clear winner after a short period of time. If this does not occur, and both chains are forced to struggle for dominance, the values of both could plummet as transaction fees and confirmation times continue to rise. *Bitcoin Cash* Today was another rather uneventful day for Bitcoin Cash, with the value slightly lowering, as Bitcoin Core made its recovery. Bitcoin Cash’s short term future regarding the fork could be extremely promising. The more unstable Bitcoin becomes due to the fork, the more growth and success Bitcoin Cash will see. The high for the day was a modest $626. The low was $602, occuring near the beginning of the day. The market cap also saw nothing more than modest decline throughout the day, as expected. It is important to note that Bitcoin Cash is the only Bitcoin branch relatively guarenteed to survive the fork, making it an extremely viable option to hold funds in. Given the large block size (8MB), nowhere near as much hashpower is needed to run effectively as is needed for either the Bitcoin 1x or 2x chains. *Etherium* Etherium is continuing to experience difficulty breaking the $300 resistance, seeing a steep drop in price from $304 to $290. This trend remains consistant with the past week or so, with Etherium continuing to test $300, before dropping back down to the low $290s. In the news, Etherium has had a pretty bad day. The popular Etherium wallet Parity has uncovered a major bug in their system that could have led to funds being wiped from wallets. It affected all wallets deployed after July 20th. As a result, all funds (at least 600,000 ETH, or $150 million) have been frozen. This likely explains the sharp drop in price seen this afternoon. *DASH* DASH had a big day today, seeing growth of over 5% for the day (at the time of writing), finally breaking the $300 mark for the first time in more than half a month. I don’t claim to know a ton about DASH at this time, so there’s not much I can confidantly say about it. However, you can be assured I am researching it extensively and it will begin showing up in more and more daily reports. **Major Events/Miscellanious** *Parity Wallet Bug* The bug found in Parity should bring all of us down to Earth, in that while cryptocurrency is extremely secure, it is not yet perfect, and may never be. We must take individual precautions, and never put 100% trust in our wallets or exchanges. Regardless, I feel like this issue will be resolved somewhat quickly due to its severity (probably within the next 24 hours) and Etherium will see nothing more than minor drops in price as some frightened users blame the currency instead of the wallet, which was at fault. *Bittrex on SegWit2x Fork* For those who don’t know, Bittrex, the third largest Bitcoin exchange, released a statement today regarding the upcoming fork (scheduled for November 16th). “In the event of a chain split, ‘BTC’ will remain the existing Bitcoin chain with 1 MB blocks until the industry and ecosystem demonstrates a clear chain preference for Bitcoin. Bittrex will take all reasonable steps to ensure that customer funds can be preserved on both chains. Bittrex will make all reasonable attempts to credit our users chain split tokens. We will not recover incorrectly made cross chain deposits under any circumstance due to the lack of replay protection.” No suprise here. Like many other miners and exchanges, Bittrex is remaining relatively neutral and is letting the market decide what the real Bitcoin is. As far as the statement says, however, Bittrex does not look like they will be freezing use of their service during the fork. Coinbase, on the other hand, clearly stated that “[they will disable buys, sells, sends, and receives for bitcoin approximately 8 hours before the fork. [they] will re-enable bitcoin services as soon as possible afterward” in order to protect users from SegWit2x’s lack of replay protection. **Further Reading** https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/goldman-sachs-analyst-bitcoin-could-near-8000-mark/ https://paritytech.io/blog/security-alert.html https://techcrunch.com/2017/11/07/a-major-vulnerability-has-frozen-hundreds-of-millions-of-dollars-of-ethereum/ https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/crucial-issue-central-bank-cryptocurrency-asap-pboc/ **Final Note** I run solely off of your generous upvotes, and donations. | title | Percentage is More Important than Price |
| body | We’ve all heard the statistic that if you bought $1,000 worth of Bitcoin in 2010 (at about $0.13 a piece), you would now be left with an astounding $55,384,615 (assuming the current price of Bitcoin is about $7,200). Unfortunately, many of us were not forward looking enough to invest in Bitcoin when it was first founded. Now, however, some Bitcoin analysts promise us that it’s not too late to take advantage of major returns on Bitcoin. That’s the viewpoint I’m here to refute. Obviously, if you are one of those forward minded people who bought Bitcoin in 2009 and now own millions of dollars in Bitcoin, you made a very smart decision. Since the value of one Bitcoin was as low as $0.06 in 2009, it didn’t take much gain for you to make massive returns. If Bitcoin grew by even 1 cent, you made 16.67% returns, more than many stocks make in a year. If Bitcoin grew $0.06, you doubled your investment. Now, however, with the price of Bitcoin hovering around $7,000 to make that same 16.67% return that you made when Bitcoin grew 1 cent in 2009, Bitcoin would have to grow around $1166. To double your investment, which only took $0.06 in 2009, Bitcoin would now have to grow over $7,000. The most radical expectations of Bitcoin have it reaching only $1 million per coin around 2025. Even if that happened, and you bought Bitcoin now and held it through that entire time, you’re only seeing 14,000% growth, or 1,750% growth annually. For comparison, when Bitcoin was $0.06, to achieve 14,000% growth, it only had to grow to $8.50 or so. That growth took slightly more than a year, and occurred in 2011. Bitcoin proponents excite buyers by claiming that Bitcoin will continue growing at massive rates. But the key is, they only ever cite growth in dollars. If Bitcoin grows to $10,000 by the end of 2017, Bitcoin users get excited for their returns. But what if instead they said there would be growth of 40%? Now it doesn’t sound as impressive. The key to massive returns is percentage, not price. If I buy an altcoin for $0.005, and it grows to $1, it doesn’t sound as impressive as if I buy Bitcoin and it grows from $500 to $7000. But the truth is that the first situation sees growth of almost 20,000%. The second situation sees growth of only 1,300%. Obviously, many ICOs and low valued coins are extremely risky, far more so than Bitcoin. However, if you’re one of those people looking for massive returns, don’t look to Bitcoin or other mainstream cryptocurrencies. Look into small cryptocurrencies, with prices smaller than 1 cent. These have the greatest chance of getting you those 10,000% percent returns we’re all looking for. Don’t fall for the high price rhetoric. Price doesn’t matter. Percentage does. **Final Note** I run solely off of your generous upvotes, and donations. It takes 2 seconds to drop an upvote, which directly helps me continue to write consistantly. If you wish to take it a step further, feel free to donate to me directly through Bitcoin. Any amount is greatly appreciated! (1AWvxxKsQBJUtarpD1GdFt3KX1LRdWUWja) |

"body": "\n\n\nWe’ve all heard the statistic that if you bought $1,000 worth of Bitcoin in 2010 (at about $0.13 a piece), you would now be left with an astounding $55,384,615 (assuming the current price of Bitcoin is about $7,200). Unfortunately, many of us were not forward looking enough to invest in Bitcoin when it was first founded. Now, however, some Bitcoin analysts promise us that it’s not too late to take advantage of major returns on Bitcoin. That’s the viewpoint I’m here to refute. \n\nObviously, if you are one of those forward minded people who bought Bitcoin in 2009 and now own millions of dollars in Bitcoin, you made a very smart decision. \n\nBitcoin proponents excite buyers by claiming that Bitcoin will continue growing at massive rates. | title | Bitcoin Breaks 6 Day Growth Streak - Daily Analysis - 11/6/17 |
| body | **General Daily Trends** *Bitcoin* Bitcoin experienced significant devaluation today, dropping in price almost $670 ,from $7,574 to slightly above $6,900 at the time of this writing, the lowest it’s been since November 2nd. This dip comes less than a day after Bitcoin reached it’s newest all time high of $7,617. Such a drop has broken Bitcoin’s 6 day streak of continuous growth. The market cap of Bitcoin has dropped over $10 billion, severely effecting the overall cryptocurrency market cap, causing a drop of over $5 billion. Many blame the upcoming SegWit2x fork for Bitcoin’s most recent drop, as investors are moving their funds to other altcoins in order to avoid the heavy risk and uncertainty that the fork will bring. The short term future of Bitcoin is extremely difficult to predict, because of the fork, expected to happen in 10 days, on November 16th. One option is that confident supporters of either BTC1x or BTC2x will buy up more of the currency as the day grows closer. Another option is that the current trend continues, with investors growing continually more worried about the contoversial fork, which would lead to Bitcoin’s price continuing to fall, and other altcoins seeing a spike in growth. *Bitcoin Cash* Bitcoin Cash’s price has remained suprisingly constant throughout the day. Overall, there was a small decline in price (about 2% at time of writing), but the drop not very significant. It is likely that in the coming week, as the fork approaches, Bitcoin Cash will see large growth as users flock to a safe place for their funds. The market cap also saw a small drop. As said before, Bitcoin Cash has become a likely place for users to either temporarily or perminantly store their funds as the Bitcoin Core community continues to undergo dangerous forks, that put both the 1x and 2x chains at risk. *Etherium* The value of Etherium increased about 1% today, still having significant difficulty consistantly breaking the $300 barrier. Etherium has remained incredibly stable over the last week, fluctuating only $25 from the low point to the high for the week. As the fork approaches, Etherium, like Bitcoin Cash, may well become a place for users to store funds during the controversy. It is unlikely, however, that Etherium experiences long term growth after the dust from the fork settles. **Major Events/Miscellanious** *SegWit2x Fork* The largest piece of news in the cryptocurrency world as of now is still the SegWit2x Fork, something that has heavily divided miners from users. Still, only 10 days before the fork, a large majority of miners are signaling their support for SegWit2x. A vast majority of users, however, continue to support the Bitcoin Core (1x) chain. It is impossible to determine exactly what the result of the fork will be. From personal research, I believe that both Bitcoin 1x and Bitcoin 2x will take some serious hits up to a week after the fork takes place. If miners go through with their promise, and move to mining the SegWit2x chain, Bitcoin Core would lose almost 85% of its hash power, leading to insanely long wait times and fees. Many users will likely stick with the 1x chain, even as it begins to fail. Miners would have to stay incredibly strong, potentially losing large amounts of profit in order to force users on the 1x chain to move over. If miners fail to mine the SegWit2x chain, or succumb to resistance from users, the 2x chain will quickly become irrelevant. Since both chains still require a large hashrate in order to stay alive, miners being split on the issue and refusing to compromise could lead to gradual destruction of both chains. The most likely option is that a large amount of miners move to mine the SegWit2x chain, but most move back within days after user resistance remains strong. In this situation, both 1x and 2x transactions will slow, and fees will rise. This could lead to heavy devaluation of Bitcoin. As miners return to the 1x chain, hashrate will return to normal, and transaction fees, while still high, will return to what they are before. This is not the last large and dangerous scaling controversy we will see. Scaling is becoming the single greatest challenge for the Bitcoin Core change, and is something that users and miners are finding it difficult to come to a consensus on. I will discuss this in far more detail later on. *Rumors of Amazon Accepting Bitcoin* These rumors are still just that. Rumors. Some sources claim that the technology giant will begin accepting Bitcoin as early as October. While this is unlikely, the implications that this would have would be massive. The two largest factors holding Bitcoin back are scaling issues, and lack of real world use (outside of early adapting businesses, such as Dell). If Amazon, the largest online retailer in the world, began accepting Bitcoin, the sky’s the limit. It would bring Bitcoin to the mainstream, and would skyrocket not only the value of Bitcoin, but how commonly it is used to make legitimate transactions. Again, I must emphasize- these are rumors. And while it is fun to speculate about, it is highly unlikely this happens anytime in the near future. *Electronium Hack* For those unaware, a popular British ICO has been hit by a DDoS cyberattack, locking investors out of their accounts for multiple days. I personally have not bought Electronium, but the organization claims to allow people to mine the currency from their smartphones, something that (I believe) no other cryptocurrency has yet attempted to do. The story is still developing, but the group, which raised over $40 million, assures users they are working dilligently to solve the problems. **Further Reading** https://www.forbes.com/sites/laurashin/2017/10/23/will-this-battle-for-the-soul-of-bitcoin-destroy-it/#2626314a3d3c https://www.coinspeaker.com/2017/09/25/rumors-amazon-may-accept-bitcoin-october/ http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/2017/11/06/british-cryptocurrencyelectroneum-hit-cyber-attack-raising-30m/ https://cointelegraph.com/news/opinion-collapse-of-bitcoins-new-york-agreement-would-have-long-term-consequences **Final Note** First of all, thank you for reading! It would bring Bitcoin to the mainstream, and would skyrocket not only the value of Bitcoin, but how commonly it is used to make legitimate transactions.\n\nAgain, I must emphasize- these are rumors. And while it is fun to speculate about, it is highly unlikely this happens anytime in the near future.\n\n*Electronium Hack*\n\nFor those unaware, a popular British ICO has been hit by a DDoS cyberattack, locking investors out of their accounts for multiple days. I personally have not bought Electronium, but the organization claims to allow people to mine the currency from their smartphones, something that (I believe) no other cryptocurrency has yet attempted to do. The story is still developing, but the group, which raised over $40 million, assures users they are working dilligently to solve the problems.\n\n\n\n**Further Reading**\n\nhttps://www.forbes.com/sites/laurashin/2017/10/23/will-this-battle-for-the-soul-of-bitcoin-destroy-it/#2626314a3d3c \n \nhttps://www.coinspeaker.com/2017/09/25/rumors-amazon-may-accept-bitcoin-october/ \n\nhttp://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/2017/11/06/british-cryptocurrencyelectroneum-hit-cyber-attack-raising-30m/\n\nhttps://cointelegraph.com/news/opinion-collapse-of-bitcoins-new-york-agreement-would-have-long-term-consequences\n\n**Final Note**\n\nFirst of all, thank you for reading!\n\nI run solely off of your generous upvotes, and donations. | body | **Welcome!** Many of you have probably arrived from my Instagram page, @_capitalist. Thank you for going beyond looking at what I post, and coming here to view my real analysis! Regardless, I am very excited to begin writing here. I previously wrote at 71Republic.com, and garnered over 10,000 views from that platform. Now, my interests have changed. I was previously more interested in social libertarianism, and while that is still important to me, the economics of cryptocurrency have more recently stuck out to me as a topic I'd like to discuss. On this blog, my initial goal is to post either daily, or every other day. I will offer daily updates on the status of major currencies, along with discussing some altcoins, or general progressions of the cryptocurrency industry. Notably, I will not be giving direct buy and sell signals. I will provide critical information, and personal analysis regarding the topics. I will not be responsible for how anybody who may read my material invests their money, though I do hope that my input will be taken into account. I am extremely excited to begin this page, and I hope to see it grow, along with my knowledge of the vast and difficult world of cryptocurrency investing. |
