| title | food that will boost your digestion |
| body | Your digestive system affects the well-being of every cell in your bodies. A healthy digestion will contribute to boosted energy levels, beautiful skin and rejuvenating sleep. So, it is key to boost your digestive health or systems. One of the ways to do or achieve is via food. Jumia Food, Nigeria's no 1 food ordering platform, identify some foods that can help promote your digestive health. Yoghurt Yoghurt is very good for your digestion as it provides the gut with good bacteria that help in digesting food. Yoghurt consumption can inhibit diarrhoea, improves bowel movement, and reduces the risk of colon cancer. Pawpaw Pawpaws are rich in enzymes that have antimicrobial properties and aid digestion by breaking down food. Pawpaws are also a rich source of vitamins A, B. and C, which helps to flush out toxins. You can have pawpaw after 1 hour of having lunch. Banana Bananas are rich in fibre, which helps to improve bowel movement and aid carbohydrate digestion. You can also have a banana with frozen yoghurt. Fish Fishes are an excellent source of fatty acids that help to reduce inflammation in the stomach. As a result, this can contribute to improving your digestion and bowel movement. Beans Beans contain lots of soluble fibre. The fibre is not digested but turned into a kind of gel which makes passing through your intestines easier. Although some people react to eating beans with bloating, so start by slowly adding small amounts to your diet and see what it does for you. Sweet potato Sweet potatoes have a copious amount of dietary fibre that aid proper bowel movement and nutrient absorption. It is perfect for digestion. Apple Apples are packed with vitamins, minerals, and dietary fibre. They also have an antioxidant property that helps reduce damage and inflammation in the digestive organs. So, eat apples as a snack, with breakfast cereal. |

Your time is too valuable to waste on nonsense.* *2. No matter what knocks you down in life, get up and keep going. NEVER GIVE UP. Great blessings come as a result of great perseverance.* *3. Talking about our problems is our greatest addiction. Break the habit. Talk about your joys.* *4. Good things come to those who believe, better things come to those who are patient, and the best things come to those who don't give up.* *5. Do not pray for an easy life; pray for the strength to endure a difficult one.* *6. Disappointments were not meant to destroy you. They were meant to strengthen you and give you fortitude to accomplish your God-given destiny.* *7. We tend to forget that happiness doesn't come as a result of getting something we don't have, but by appreciating what we do have.* *8. Your child will follow your example, not your advice.* *9. One day, you'll be just a memory for some people. Do your best to be a good one.* *10. Associate yourself with people of good quality. For it is better to be alone than in bad company.* *11. Don't fear change. You may lose something good, but you may also gain something great.* *12. When you love what you have, you have everything you need.* *13. The greatest act of faith some days is to simply get up and face another day.* *14. Never let the things you want make you forget the things you have - GRATITUDE.* *15. Commitment means staying loyal to what you said you were going to do, long after the mood you said it has left you.* *16. When you choose to forgive those who have hurt you, you take away their power.* *17. Patience is not the ability to wait, but how you act while you are waiting.* *18. Isn't it ironic:* *- We ignore those who adore us, but adore the ones that ignore us* *- We love those who hurt us, but hurt the ones that love us.* *19. Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together. Every story has an end, but in life every end is just a new beginning.* *20. You were born to win. Although to be a winner, you must plan to win, prepare to win, and expect to win.* *21. Every day is a NEW beginning, take a deep breath and START AGAIN.* *22. Know that you are loved. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. You are beautiful. You have purpose. You are a masterpiece.* *23. Don't compare your progress with that of others. We all need our own time to travel our own distance.* *24. Surround yourself only with people who are going to lift you higher.* *25. Bad things happen everyday to everyone. The difference is in how people deal with it.* *26. When you make a commitment, you build hope. When you keep it, you build trust.* *27. Two things define you: Your PATIENCE when you have NOTHING, and your ATTITUDE when you have EVERYTHING.* *28. Being honest may not get you a lot of FRIENDS but it will always get you the RIGHT ONES.* *29. Working on yourself is the hardest part of life. Keep growing up, no matter where you are.* *30. | body | A visit to Nigeria can expose you to different genres of music however, the ones that will probably be fill the airways of your radio set are hip hop, R&B, reggae and rap and as a guest, chances are higher that you want to seek invigorating experiences, fresh rhythms and new sounds. If you want to listen to something more traditional and different from the everyday clang of metal and bass you are bombarded with daily, Travel.Jumia.com, Africa’s No 1 hotel booking portal shares five indigenous genres to listen out for while in Nigeria. Afrobeat Only one name comes to mind when any discourse on Afrobeat pops up. That is Fela Anikulapo Kuti. He was the one who popularized this genre of music as he churned out a medley of songs that addressed societal issues and the military government. Fela could even perform on stage for hours non-stop. Afrobeat came to the consciousness of Nigerians in the 1970s as artists joyfully concocted traditional Yoruba music with jazz, West African highlife and funk. If you want to enjoy the best of Afrobeat, visit the Afrika Shrine at Central Business District, Ikeja. Click here to listen to Fela Kuti Igbo highlife This class of music is proudly owned by the Igbos of Eastern Nigeria . The genre combines the soulful strings of highlife with Igbo traditional music. With a standing microphone, a guitar in hand and backup singers, the lead singer in very melodic tones dish out songs in Igbo or pidgin English to entertain teeming fans. The story of highlife in Nigeria is incomplete without mentioning the contributions of Chief Stephen Osita Osadebe. He was music personified. Other highlife greats are Oliver De Coque, Orlando Owoh, and Jim Rex Lawson among others. Click here to listen to Chief Stephen Osita Osadebe Juju Juju was popularized by the ever energetic and unflappable King Sunny Ade. In the interim, Shina Peters took it one step higher by blending it with African tunes to produce Afrojuju . These songs are worth listening to. Before it became well known, it was pioneered by musicians like Fatai Rolling Dollars, Tunde Nightingale, and I.K. Dairo. Click here to listen to King sunny Ade Apala Before Apala became popular amongst the Yorubas of Southwest , Nigeria, it was strictly a religious song used to arouse fasting Muslims during Ramadan. As time went by, it shed its religious toga and became a general form of entertainment. It was developed in the late 1930s and early 1940s in Ijebuland in Ogun state. The main instruments in apala are talking drums, shekere rattle , agogo bell , agidigbo , and a thumb piano often played by the lead singer. Popular Apala musicians include Haruna Ishola and Ayinla Omowura. Click here to listen to Alhaji Sikiru Barrister Fuji Fuji is an offshoot of Apala music. Fuji is indigenous to the Yorubas of Western Nigeria. Alhaji Sikiru Barrister led the pack in the 1960s while Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, Pasuma Wonder, Saheed Osupa, Obesere, Adewale Ayuba, and Malaika among others made it widely known. They mostly sing in Yoruba language but it is no doubt danceable. |

| title | hybrid food |
| body | With each and every day that passes we’re bound to experience “new information” that we learn about health and wellness. Since we all know that there is nothing new under the sun, many of these topics may only be new in some of our personal bubbles. Such is the case with hybrid foods. Though they are not new to me there may be some people that have no knowledge of what constitutes a hybrid food. But don’t be alarmed. Many of the things that we consume daily have been tampered with in one way or another by mankind. Every so often (on a facebook post or an article) we’ll get a person who is armed with exceptional health knowledge make comments like, “That’s a hybrid so I’m not eating it” or “Everything is good on the list with the exception of spinach because it’s a hybrid food.” While the concern is understood it must also be understood the times in which we live. When we share information we have to be cognoscente enough to share information on foods that are accessible to everyone. When I say everyone, that’s exactly what I mean. If the masses of the people cannot drive to the location within 15 minutes or catch the bus in a reasonable amount of time to purchase that of which we speak, then we may be doing more harm than good. Why scare someone from eating something that is accessible (and has benefits) into searching for some rare random food that may not be available? So we’re back to hybrid foods. What are hybrid foods? A hybrid food is a food created by cross pollinating two closely related species of the same genus or two cultivars or varieties within the same species. Basically, they don’t grow on their own in nature so someone has to purposely breed them together to create them. Do not confuse these with GMO foods. The common thread between GMO foods and hybrids is that man has tampered with both. However, GMO foods have their genes manipulated and joined with things that are not of the same species. They cross biological kingdoms. A hybrid does not! If you have ever seen the movie The Fly with Jeff Goldblum he was a perfect example of a GMO. A man’s DNA was crossed with an insect’s in a lab. He was the result of science. Hybrids are the work of farmers and agriculturalists. Additionally, it is important to know that hybrid foods are not created in laboratories. Farmers have been cultivating new plant species for quite some time via the hybrid process. In short, the hybrid is created in a much more natural method where GMOs are created using highly advanced scientific technology. Problem With Hybrid Foods The major issue with hybrid foods is that their seeds generally cannot reproduce themselves and maintain their beneficial qualities after the first generation. If they do survive their nutrient density is probably not worth much. This is why hybrid foods should not be our first choice in many cases. Notice I didn’t say “not eaten.” They can still be consumed depending on the food. If a hybrid food does not have a seed (and it should have one) I would try not to consume it unless it was my last option or if the alternative was something completely unhealthy. In reality no hybrid food is going to kill anyone. Some examples of hybrid foods are blood limes, tayberry, tangelo oranges, carrots, grapefruits, squash and spinach. Do I consume grapefruits, squash, yellow corn and spinach? Absolutely. Do I consume them frequently? In the last six months I have consumed corn very frequently and spinach approximately three times. I just so happen to like the taste of corn but I can do without it. The other two I have consumed once with twice being the most. The fact that a food is a hybrid does not mean that they won’t be nutritious (unless they are seedless like watermelon!). Don’t turn your back on non-starch based hybrid foods like seeded fruits and green plants (such as spinach). These are far better than junk food and will indeed provide your body with necessary nutrients. The point to make is that hybrids are not detrimental in many instances. In my opinion, what makes a hybrid food dangerous is if it is starch based (like corn) or if it is without a seed. Not having a seed is not as dangerous as it is counterproductive to our nutrition. The purpose of eating is to feed the cells nutrients. As far as starch is concerned we know that if you spray starch on a pair of pants or a shirt, it’s going to harden. If your clothes will harden from starch then it’s safe to say that your blood, arteries and blood vessels can expect the same outcome. |

| title | climate change |
| body | Climatic changes has been a major world problem in a recent time, especially in Africa. There is nothing new about climate change. For hundreds of millions of years the Earth’s temperature has been influenced by continental shifts, which have triggered volcanic eruptions among other things. Sometimes these shifts released large volumes of CO2 which heated up the Earth. They also caused young rocks to rise to the surface, which chemically bound CO2. As a result, CO2 was dispelled from the atmosphere in the longer term. Today, natural phenomena still make a deep impression on the climate. Take, for example, El Niño, which occurs at intervals of three to seven years. When the trade winds ease, the warm water from the Western Pacific (Indonesia, Philippines) moves east and causes a rise in sea temperature in an area west of Peru. This occurrence creates worldwide deviations in cloud patterns, precipitation and temperature. So, the causes of climate change are many and varied. And the effects on our climate system are complex. Influence of humans Humans have been influencing the climate since the start of the Industrial Revolution. Since then, the average world temperature has risen by approximately 0.8 degrees Celsius. In North-West Europe (including the Netherlands) the average temperature has risen by 1.5 degrees. The sea level has risen by around twenty centimetres and most of the glaciers have shrunk dramatically. Up to 1950 the influence of nature was more important than human influence. After that, the pattern in the average world temperature can only be explained by factoring in the human influence. Even so, a slight decline in temperature did appear from the mid-1940s to the mid-1970s. It was linked to a dramatic increase in cooling aerosols from the post-war industrialisation in the western world. It was also caused by a mild decline in solar activity and some major volcanic eruptions in the second half of this period. According to the latest IPCC report, it is more than likely (more than 90 per cent probability) that most of the global warming in recent decades is attributable to the observed increase in greenhouse gases. CO2 and climate change The most well-known and the most important greenhouse gas is CO2. The concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere is subject to variation even without human intervention. The carbon cycle causes an exchange of CO2 between the biosphere and the oceans on the one hand and the atmosphere on the other. Vast amounts of CO2 are also released by the burning of fossil fuels. There is incontrovertible evidence that the CO2 concentration in the air has never been so high in 800,000 years (probably even 60 million years) as it is now. The trend suggests that CO2 emissions will continue to rise globally, although the economic crisis did prevent a rise in 2009. The Netherlands (per head of population) is high on the list of CO2 emitters in the world. Besides CO2 , methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), fluorinated gases, ozone (O3) and water vapour are important greenhouse gases. Water vapour plays a unique role as it strengthens the heat-trapping effect caused by other greenhouse gas emissions. This is because a warmer atmosphere retains more water. The amount of water vapour cannot be artificially increased or decreased. |

| title | Beauty of desert |
| body | Deserts are characterized by their rainfall—or rather, their lack of it. Most deserts get less than ten inches of precipitation each year and evaporation usually exceeds rainfall. Deserts – regions where more water evaporates from the ground than is replaced by precipitation – are generally extremely hot, but some, like the Gobi in Asia, experience very cold winters. And deserts that are hot during the day may become cold at night because they lack the insulation provided by clouds and humidity. Plants, animals and other organisms that live in deserts have evolved to survive harsh conditions, scarce water and barren landscapes. Some desert habitats are short-lived—springing up to brighten the landscape only when the rains come. Many desert plants, like cacti in the Americas, are able to absorb and store water, letting them survive long periods of drought. Animals have adapted to get water from the food they eat and to conserve what little they obtain. They often come out only at night to avoid the worst of the heat. The desert’s arid conditions mean that soils take a long time to recover when they are disturbed. This lack of water makes desert landscapes vulnerable. Climate change is reducing snowpacks and melting glaciers that provide freshwater to desert communities. Increasing evaporation and dust storms are pushing deserts out into communities at their edges. This desertification is exacerbated by human exploitation of ecosystems that border deserts, causing land degradation, soil erosion and sterility, and a loss of biodiversity. |

| body | Hello! Prestigious steemians, am Akeem, a Nigerian who live in Lagos, a city of heterogeneous social people. Am a graduate of Geography and Environmental management,a lover of nature. Presently, I teach Geography and engaged in organizing seminars on Environmental issues. I love to inculcate in people, the sense of environmental sustainability in order to curbed the rate of Environmental abuse and degradation. As a Nigerian, I love doing things that will project my country in a positive way. I hope that my efforts on Steemit would be highly rewarded through my quality posts on issues |
