      "body": "# Lyrica (Pregabalin). My experience\n\nI found myself searching the net for other people's experiences of taking this drug and could not find much so if anyone comes across my situation, you will have something to read.\n\n## Pain, Ibuprofen, Oxycodone\nOne day I started to experience neck pain. The strange thing was that it just got worse and worse as the day went on. I'm going to skip a bunch of info here, basically I had a pinched spinal nerve. My whole left arm was in pain 24/7 and it got to the point where it's natural state was tightly curled up against my chest. It was terrible and went on for many weeks. The doctors gave me ibuprofen and paracetamol+codeine (panadene forte) to start with. At one point I was awake for 2 days due to the pain - So I took the ibuprofen at smaller intervals in desperation to numb the pain and get some sleep, but it only messed up my stomach to the point where I threw up blood (not much). After this happened I went to the hospital and they gave me Oxycodone (Endone)  - this stuff actually numbed the pain a bit (and did not cause me to throw up blood). I don't think doc's like prescribing Oxy to males in their early 20s because it's addictive. I'm sure I looked like a drug addict when I saw the doctor, but I wasn't. I was just a young engineering student in insane pain. I did not find Oxycodone addictive. It made me drowsy and numbed pain a bit. After weeks of numbing the pain the issue sort of faded away and I stopped taking the painkillers, easily weening myself off them over a week. \n\n## Enter Pregabalin\nThe neck issue would come back every couple of years or so, but not as bad as the first time. It's always pretty tight and I am constantly stretching it, but it's not a real big issue. During one of my more intense regressions a few years back, I went to the doctor and told him my story. I wanted an alternative to Ibuprofen because I don't like killing my stomach (stomachs are important). He recommended that I try Pregabalin (Lyrica). I started taking them (75mg) twice a day. I was amazed with how well they made the pain go away. I really liked a few aspects of this drug. It does not kill my stomach, it does not make me drowsy to the point at which I can't work and it makes me feel very slightly 'high'. This stuff is apparently for nerve pain. I don't know why the doc's didn't give it to me all those years back.\n\nI read about the side effects of Pregabalin. I found it strange that one of the side effects were suicidal thoughts because I had experienced the opposite effect when I first had it. Not that I was really having suicidal thoughts. I mean I was a Math/Science Teacher at this time and my job regularly sucked. I was pretty much constantly overworked and stressed, so at times I got pretty damn down. I work in IT now and I don't regularly feel shit about my job anymore, so if you just so happen to be a teacher, trust me; the grass is actually greener on the other side (quit asap). Anyways back to Pregabalin (PG) - it sort of chilled me out and reduced my feeling of stress. When I take it I feel as though my limbs loosen a bit. I get the feeling that they're not loose after PG , but they were simply just tight before PG and have released to their natural state. The other good thing is that when I take it before bed I seem to get a deeper sleep and seem to have dreams that I can recall. I suck at sleeping so I'm really happy to have this stuff lying around at times.\n\nI don't feel like I abuse PG, but lately I've wondered if I'm a bit dependent on it to go to sleep. I don't feel like I miss it when I don't have it, so I guess I'm not feeling addicted to it. I don't want to be an advertisement for this stuff. I just thought I'd share my thoughts and experiences on this. It's not all rainbows and roses anyway. I think it gave me a headache when I stupidly had a couple of drinks while on it the other day.\n\nKeen to hear anyone else's experiences with this stuff!",

      "body": "# Overview\nCryptocurrency (Crypto) _can_ provide superior value transfer and storage abilities to fiat currency, but there are some clear drawbacks. I aim to give you a concise, objective analysis of the good and the bad.  I think it's important to note a few things first. This write up is aimed at people with very little or no understanding of Crypto systems. I am not going to contrast fiat currency to a single  Crypto system.  You would have almost definitely heard of Bitcoin. It has some very desirable features, but newer systems have made some incredible advancements, so it would not make sense to limit an analysis to this one system. \n\n# Con - if you loose your private key...\nYour \"wallet\" is an application that allows you to view and transfer your Crypto. Your private key is sort of like a super strong random password that your \"wallet\" generates.  To transfer your assets (spend them) you will need your private key. If your 'wallet' is on your phone, and you loose your phone, you may have lost all your crypto associated with that wallet. Of course, you can get your wallet to show you your private key and write in down. In the event that you loose your phone (or pc or tablet) you can simply import that private key into another wallet and everything is the same as before. You can also export your private key as a digital file and store it in multiple places. The point is, it is actually possible to loose all your funds. With a bank there is usually a way you can physically go visit them with all your documents and id to get access to your funds if you forget your password. This luxury does not exist in any Crypto (that I know of).\n\n# Con - Acceptance as payment\nAt the moment (early 2018) you're probably going to find that your local supermarket does not accept Crypto. Most of your local stores probably won't accept Crypto. It's worth noting that although this is true, you will find that Bitcoin is accepted all over the world and your local currency is not. The number of crypto accepting retailers is increasing and there are sytems that allow you to pay your bills with Crypto. One such system is currently functioning for [BPAY  bill payments in Australia](https://www.livingroomofsatoshi.com/). Overall, Crypto is not well accepted in early 2018.\n\n# Con/Pro/Pro - Privacy\nBitcoins database (it's Blockchain) is public. ALL of the transactions are stored in the Blockchain. This means that if you know Jane's Bitcoin address, you can go look up how many bitcoin Jane owns and view her transaction history. This is not good from a privacy perspective, but it's awesome from an accounting and transparency perspective. It is worth noting that although we can see all the bitcoin addresses, and how much is in each of them, we don't know who own's them without some investigation, and there are multiple things Jane can do (such as switching wallets) to make her very difficult to track. In my example above I specifically referred to Bitcoin. There are now Crypto systems that offer incredible privacy. In these systems it's practically impossible to track a person's spending. Zcash, Zencash, Pivx and Monero are examples of such systems.\n\n# Con/Pro - Value Stability\nThe value of Crypto can change rapidly (in both directions). This is obviously not good for a number of reasons. Many people use Crypto as a speculative asset due to it's (generally) fixed supply, but others use it as a stable currency. What! Stable? If you live in a country where [hyperinflation is peaking at 500,000,000,000%](https://www.economist.com/news/middle-east-and-africa/21730913-ruined-country-waiting-its-elderly-dictator-go-zimbabwes-deepening) then Bitcoin is a super stable currency. Unfortunately fiat systems experience crazy hyperinflation in our current era. This can happen when a small group of people have control of a whole countrie's supply of money. Overall, first world countries generally have currencies that are a lot more stable than Crypto.\n\n# Pro - Transaction Fees\nCrypto systems can offer transaction fees of a cent or less. Bitcoin's transaction fees did peak in 2017, but that's almost definitely not going to be the future for Bitcoin with systems such as the lightning network being built. The point is Crypto can offer much lower transaction fees, especially when transferring overseas.\n\n# Pro - Transaction Speed\nCrypto can transfer pretty much instantly. The fastest system i've used is Pivx which transferred within a second. You might of heard that Bitcoin had some pretty slow transaction speeds during December of 2017 but this is unlikely to be the case in the future if using the Lightning network (currently being built). Even using Bitcoin (one of the slowest systems) it is probably going to be a LOT quicker than fiat for sending money overseas.\n\n# Pro - Digital\nBeing digital offers some advantages. Firstly you don't have to carry coins. Secondly it's a very secure way to store value. This is in part thanks to Blockchain technology. [Bitcoin has simply never been hacked - just don't give anyone your private key!](https://support.coinbase.com/customer/en/portal/articles/1836669-is-bitcoin-secure-has-the-bitcoin-network-ever-been-hacked-). Finally, a person can't fake the currency and increase the maximum supply. [Counterfeit money is a problem pretty much everywhere](https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/counterfeiters-flood-melbourne-with-fake-100-notes-20170305-guqzld.html). It decreases the value of everyone's money. This problem is only going to get worse as printer technology has only been getting better and cheaper.\n\n# Pro - Smart contracts\nWhen I first understood smart contracts I felt like it blew my mind. Two words - \"programmable money\". Being able to program your money to do things under certain circumstances is definitely not a gimmick. We are definitely going to see a lot more virtual infrastructure being built using smart contracts. At the very least this new technology has already proved that it can allow popular decentralized apps such as the game 'Crypto Kitties' to function. I've just mentioned the tip of the iceberg here in relation to smart contracts. Many believe this is the most useful and exiting function of Crypto's. Ethereum was a pioneer in smart contracts but 2018 will probably see some incredible smart contract Crypto Systems being released.",

This is a common put down when discussing POS. Although this is true, it gives people the wrong impression and guides them to the wrong conclusion. This is my attempt to explain why.</p>\n<p><strong>MAKING MONEY</strong></p>\n<p>A shovel simply can't do the work that a giant bulldozer can. If you're hiring yourself out, generally you're going to get paid more if you're hiring yourself out with a bulldozer than a shovel. Why? Because you can do more work with a bulldozer. This situation is simply a fact of life and it's based on basic logic, economics and physics. The guy with the bulldozer must have a certain amount of wealth to buy it. You can see that wealth allows people to make investments that will then allow them to make more wealth. This is an issue that we face on a species level, not just something that is limited to the world of digging, or Cryptocurrency. Many countries have tax systems that try (or appear to try) to balance this effect out.</p>\n<p><strong>MINING - POW</strong></p>\n<p>Consider the previous situation, but now let's apply it to mining. Now the everyday guy with the shovel is the guy with a basic GPU mining rig and the guy with the bulldozer has a state of the art warehouse full of Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC), cheaper electricity, more efficient hardware, and an internet connection you would die for. This creates a dangerous feedback loop. With more resources you can generate more money, which you can then invest in research/developing better technology which leads to more money! What is really scary about this situation is that the intellectual property used in the hardware can be kept from the people with less wealth. This factor accelerates the growth of the wealthy to the point where everyone else drops out and one entity has a complete monopoly on mining. Another thing that is worrying is that there is no way to know if one entity is actually controlling multiple mining pools and has taken control of 51% of the networks hash rate. POW is a good system, and I'm not saying the previous situation has happened, but it's important to be aware of the economics and logistics. It's important to note that if it was found out that one entity had control of 51% of the hash rate, then it would instantly make the whole system worthless, and hence the entity's business and Cryptocurrency in the system. The point is, there is an inbuilt incentive to not get too powerful that can be applied to <strong>both</strong> POW and POS.</p>\n<p><strong>POW - RICHIE RICH GET'S RICHER LESS</strong></p>\n<p>So why do I think the rich get richer less with POW? With mining the super wealthy can invest in research and produce expensive machines (etc) that give them an ever increasing advantage over average Joe. That can't be done with POS. There are no ASICS. You can't invest in better staking technology. <strong>You can't price others out of staking</strong>. The inbuilt 51% economic safety mechanism still applies to POS, but now the super wealthy can't price average Joe out of the system and he can work his way up to financial freedom. It's 'shovel vs bigger shovel' rather than 'shovel vs a bulldozer'.&nbsp;</p>\n</html>",

      "body": "<html>\n<p>Firstly, if you have no idea what POS or POW is; this video is the best I've ever come across to get the point across (https://youtu.be/SiKnWBPkQ4I)</p>\n<p>You will notice that the guy in the video mentions the phrase \"the rich get richer\" when discussing POW at 5:10. This is a common put down when discussing POS. Although this is true, it gives people the wrong impression and guides them to the wrong conclusion. This is my attempt to explain why.</p>\n<p><strong>MAKING MONEY</strong></p>\n<p>A shovel simply can't do the work that a giant bulldozer can. If you're hiring yourself out, generally you're going to get paid more if you're hiring yourself out with a bulldozer than a shovel. Why? Because you can do more work with a bulldozer. This situation is simply a fact of life and it's based on basic logic, economics and physics. The guy with the bulldozer must have a certain amount of wealth to buy it. You can see that wealth allows people to make investments that will then allow them to make more wealth. This is an issue that we face on a species level, not just something that is limited to the world of digging, or Cryptocurrency. Many countries have tax systems that try (or appear to try) to balance this effect out.</p>\n<p><strong>MINING - POW</strong></p>\n<p>Consider the previous situation, but now let's apply it to mining. Now the everyday guy with the shovel is the guy with a basic GPU mining rig and the guy with the bulldozer has a state of the art warehouse full of Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC), cheaper electricity, more efficient hardware, and an internet connection you would die for. This creates a dangerous feedback loop. With more resources you can generate more money, which you can then invest in research/developing better technology which leads to more money! What is really scary about this situation is that the intellectual property used in the hardware can be kept from the people with less wealth. This factor accelerates the growth of the wealthy to the point where everyone else drops out and one entity has a complete monopoly on mining. Another thing that is worrying is that there is no way to know if one entity is actually controlling multiple mining pools and has taken control of 51% of the networks hash rate. POW is a good system, and I'm not saying the previous situation has happened, but it's important to be aware of the economics and logistics. It's important to note that if it was found out that one entity had control of 51% of the hash rate, then it would instantly make the whole system worthless, and hence the entity's business and Cryptocurrency in the system. The point is, there is an inbuilt incentive to not get too powerful that can be applied to <strong>both</strong> POW and POS.</p>\n<p><strong>POW - RICHIE RICH GET'S RICHER LESS</strong></p>\n<p>So why do I think the rich get richer less with POW? With mining the super wealthy can invest in research and produce expensive machines (etc) that give them an ever increasing advantage over average Joe. That can't be done with POS. There are no ASICS. You can't invest in better staking technology. <strong>You can't price others out of staking</strong>. The inbuilt 51% economic safety mechanism still applies to POS, but now the super wealthy can't price average Joe out of the system and he can work his way up to financial freedom. It's 'shovel vs bigger shovel' rather than 'shovel vs bulldozer'.</p>\n</html>",
