I found this little guy, among others, beneath a mixture of Eastern Red Cedar trees (Juniperus Virginiana), Longleaf Pine (Pinus Palustris), and arguably the most interesting tree in the area- the Live Oak (Quercus Virginiana). Fruit bodies grow singly, scattered, or in groups in sphagnum moss near bogs, and in coniferous and mixed forests. The fungus occasionally fruits on humus or on very rotten wood.[18] The mushroom is known from North Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America, and can be locally very common. My grandpa has been developing what we believe to be dementia and his memory has been getting considerably worse over the past year. A few days ago after learning more about this mushroom I decided to order him a bottle of lion's mane capsules from host defense to try out. I typically start my morning with some light yoga stretching, then proceed to make myself a cup of coffee and read pages from a book (currently Walden) until my cup empties. I was intending to consume all 3 varieties of mushroom elixirs (Reishi, Chaga, and Lion’s Mane) independently as tea to experience their unique flavors, but this morning I desired to kill 2 birds with one stone and decided to include the powder into my coffee so I could begin consuming it as I was waking up with my book. If I had to rank the taste of this mushroom combined with the coffee, I would rank it below both the Reishi and Chaga teas I’ve tried, however it wasn’t terrible. Before finishing my cup of coffee I began to feel a sensation that was familiar, similar to what I had experienced during my evening with Reishi tea. There was a warm, welcoming, and calming effect felt within my head. As I finished with my cup of coffee, I noticed it was easier for me to block out distractions (background tv noise from another room, traffic from outside the window) and focus on what I was reading. Following my reading session I had a phone conversation with my dad and was able to better formulate complete thoughts within my sentences on the topics we were discussing (we talk about deep philosophies sometimes :P). I was telling her that in a book I read and recommended to her, *The Alchemist*, it talks about these things, which it refers to as *omens*. Not 24 hours later (this morning at about 10A.M.) my aunt happens to be watching the Megan Kelly show, which isn’t all that common for her to do (she’s not a regular viewer), and the guest on the show happens to be talking about that exact book. So she happens to be watching that particular show, at that particular moment, not long after we had this discussion about synchronicities. Most people call what they cannot explain “coincidences”. I stopped at a health foods store located in High Point, NC and asked to see their selection. I was directed to a shelf that contained both pill supplements and powder packets that you could make/add to tea or coffee. I picked out 2 packets each of 3 different varieties. Reishi, Chaga, and Lion’s made, all from the brand Four Sigmate. I came home and decided to make Reishi tea at about 7:00pm. At first I was worried about what it might taste like, but overall wasn’t TOO concerned. I was consuming it for the health benefits and anything extra, like taste, was just a bonus. The benefits of Reishi includes:\n\t1) Antioxidant and Reduces Inflammation \n\t2) Reduces Anxiety and Depression\n\t3) Enhances Immune System\n\t4) Relieves Allergies\n\t5) Lowers Blood Sugar and Cholesterol \n\t6) Prevents Cancer and Tumor Growth\n\t8) Sleeping Aid\n\t9) Enhances Brain Activity\n\t10) Aids Gut Health\nThis is all according to https://www.selfhacked.com/blog/reishi/ , which I encourage you all to visit and read more of the details of each listed benefit.\n\nThis is what I can tell you from my first experience of it; I was pleasantly surprised by the taste and how easy it was to drink on it’s own. It wasn’t bitter, it wasn’t strong, and it certainly didn’t have a shroomy taste (which is what I was expecting). It did have somewhat of it’s own taste which makes it hard for me to describe anything to compare it to, but it was enjoyable. About 30 minutes in I even started to notice a couple of effects taking place. There was a sensation within my head (between my temples) that is a similar feeling to when I vape CBD oil. It’s like a warm, welcoming, and mild sensation. I felt relaxed and focused. I felt calm, reduced anxiety, and my overall mood was happily content. I feel a lot of these qualities when vaping CBD but the sensations don’t seem to last as long as the effects this Reishi tea was having on me. I would say what I was feeling was noticeable up until around midnight, and was still mildly present until I fell asleep around 1 A.M. Also on another note (and probably TMI), I’ve been somewhat sick the last couple of days with an upset stomach and diarrhea. I took the browns to the super bowl about 3 hours after drinking the tea and I was back to solid and my stomach felt under control. The rest of the evening I spent in a relaxed state, and felt motivated to research a bit more on the *Ganoderma Lucidum*, and even started this article about how much I was enjoying it. I did happen to wake up a couple times throughout the night (per usual) but my dreams were vivid and fun. I definitely wasn’t expecting to notice any effects taking place right away. I originally thought this would be something I would have to take for awhile before I noticed anything. This had been an excellent experience and I am super excited to explore the potential of this medicinal mushroom further, and also the mushrooms I will be consuming in the future!",
