My teachers are rad, my district is rad, and my branch is super rad. We got a fresh batch of new missionaries in our zone this week and I have somehow managed to convince every single one of them that I'm from Australia by using a cheesy accent that sounds like I'm British half of the time!!\n\nStuff I Need\nI loved getting everyone's letters and Dear Elders!!! It makes the middle of my week super awesome when the District Leader comes around with the mail and letters of encouragement and news from everyone pop up on my desk!!! That's about all I can ask for right now is just Dear Elders, Letters, and Emails!!!!!\n\nMy Companion\nI'm super stoked that I got Elder Donaldson because honestly I love my group but he's the most level headed guy out of the batch and knows how to deal with my over-enthusiastic self at times. He appreciates good old McBride humor and gets a laugh out of just about everything I do, but when I begin taking a joke too far in usual fashion he stops me before I make a complete fool out of myself.\n<center>The doll head my dad secretly packed in my luggage has been fun. He takes this stuff like a champ</center><center>![doll.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmfUpvPuNTCRX7jsuVYZko2HLptFUPU2bG3yaMC8KXQqPK/doll.JPG)</center>\n\nStory Time\nA pretty nasty cold has been sweeping through our district as of late and one elder was hit by it harder than everyone else, his name is Elder Bergenthaw. I think I've talked about him before but if not he's just an interesting guy that's really weird and does stuff in his own fashion that I find absolutely hilarious. Bergenthaw has been coughing so hard as of late that his lungs are going to come straight out of his mouth one of these night. Not only does he have the worst cold I think I have ever witnessed but to make matters worse a few days ago (at the height of his sickness) he awoke one morning to discover that he had contracted pinkeye the prior night. As word of this new epidemic spread the paranoia of neighboring elders in our zone slowly grew until there was talk of quarantining this poor elder away from everyone else so no one would get pinkeye!!! This accompanied by the new nickname of pinkie did not sit well with Elder Bergenthaw as he began getting angry with the zone members. My companion and I calmed him down and told the rest of the zone that it was going over board and so they all stopped torturing the poor guy. After the day had gone by I heard elder Bergenthaw become worried that he'd rub his eyes in his sleep and contract pinkeye in both eyes so what did I do???? Took advantage of the situation of course!!! We found some old science goggles that some random elder had and told Bergenthaw that if he wore them to  bed he would definatley not get pinkeye a second time...... Nelson speak about obedience and the blessings thereof. My favorite quote was \"Obedience brings blessings  which are good, but perfect obedience brings miracles that will change the hearts of men\". It's been really easy to follow rules here, but that doesn't go without saying there are a few that I think are kind of dumb rules, after hearing this I thought to myself, why not follow these rules I think are dumb and see the results of doing so??? It's been absolutely insane, My spanish is better than it has ever been, my retention of new principals and concepts is off the charts, and my teaching to investigators has taken leaps and bounds impossible to take over the span of a single week alone. It's exciting to see the words of an apostle in action so visibly!!!       "body": "How Am I Doing:\nI still love it here, The charmine and wet wipes finally arrived and that was my mana from heaven for the week!! My district is now the one that everyone wants to be in because of how close all of us are and how much we all manage to make each other laugh. It's been a huge blessing to be with a group of guys that are super supportive and really helpful when learning gospel principals and tough language topics. I'm learning a lot here and for the first time ever I think that going to class is a highlight during my day, my teachers press me really hard but it's nothing I'm not used to from back home and is a welcome challenge to push my progress along a lot faster than I thought I could go.\n<center>Great group of guys</center><center>Of course, Race supplied the moustaches to the boys</center><center>![Moustaches.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmcz7vnRgXgEBpf8WwxnBueSUBNPEdd2zVrrFs1hSv6VMv/Moustaches.JPG)</center>\n\n\nStuff I Need:\nI'm really content with what I've got here right now, it's enough for what I'm doing everyday here. I did find out about this program called Dear Elder, I'm not sure how it works on your end but while I'm in the MTC if anyone goes on Dear Elder at home and types out a letter then submits it the MTC prints and delivers it to me same day. If you don't want to do that Emails are rad too I love reading all of the things everyone sends each week, It's a nice way to reconnect with everyone at home. He's probably played every sport that the U.S has to offer and is super mellow and easy going. He rolls his eyes at half of the stuff I do but always ends up laughing in the end. He's helping my basketball skills right now as I am terrible at the sport and keep getting shown up by the other Elders. After only two weeks I'm able to keep up with some of the kids who played high school ball so that's super rad of him to do.\n<center>Donaldson is a good Sports coach i think i make him tired</center><center>![tired.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmWF3JzyHErJSYPRNBGeARqwo5nj8fJsBrDf92eWZdpkwH/tired.JPG)</center>\n\nStory Time:\nNow I come to the header of this email... This week my family sent me a care package in the mail that had some pictures from home, shirts, a rubix cube that I can't solve, and of course Charmine and wet wipes. The final item is an oddity though, my dad and I used to eat squid jerky and I've always enjoyed it so it was pretty rad when I found some in my package for old times sake. While the jerky tastes good it smells like dead fish that's had a few days to rot. All of the sudden I had an idea.... what would happen if we hid a piece of this rancid  jerky in someones pillow case, funny right?? Well the Elder who found this in his pillow case didn't seem to think so... Luckily I had covered my tracks pretty well, I had given the jerky to another elder and told him to put it into someone else's pillow case for me. I woke up the next day to massive amounts of yelling and threats that whoever had put \"Rotten disease infested meat\" (squid jerky that was not rotten just smelly) in their room was going to get pounded and their district proceeded to start a man hunt for me. It didn't take them long to find the person who I had given the jerky to by methods unbeknownst to me, but he didn't rat me out, I waited until they were all in hot pursuit of this rather portly Elder running as fast as his legs would carry him in the opposite direction of the mob chasing him. I then approached the person who's case it was in as he had stayed behind to replace the stinky pillow and told him I didn't realize that it would be this big of a deal and that people were kind of blowing it out of proportion. I also told him it wasn't rotten meat and just squid. He took it like a champ and when his district came back with their now captive Elder Clark he told them he was over it and what had happened and we all had a good laugh. Our zone can be kind of crazy about dumb things sometimes but at the end of the day we all get along and are there for each other.\n\n<center>This is the district witht he sisters included</center><center>![all the district.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmXuyG2yzRXS2eUuxyFrTm5k88Chrt7b3vEdfSyvDduCaL/all%20the%20district.JPG)</center>\n\nSpiritual Time:\nWe have a teacher named Hermano Manwaring and he is totally awesome. He pushes everyone really hard and get us all to see results we never though were possible out of ourselves. This past week we were looking at Lehi's vision in 1 Nephi 8. As we were reading this it was really awesome to give and hear insights about how this vision of the iron rod and great and spacious building applies to us today. In the vision there is a rod of Iron leading through a feild of dense fog and mist  to a tree bountiful with fruit that fills a persons soul with joy when they eat it. Along the way to the tree many people leave the straight an narrow path the Iron rod leads down becoming lost in the mist and never finding their way to the fruit they once desired. A Little later a great building is found floating high above the earth with a multitude of finely dressed people mocking those who would choose a difficult path to a tree and fruit when they could easily leave something so simple for the \"Finer things in life\" Eventually this building falls along with all of those inside it leading to great turmoil while those who followed the straight and narrow path to the tree have everlasting joy that cannot be taken or fall away from them. We discussed how the iron rod is the word of god and the straight and narrow path is the commandments we must follow to obtain the fruit of his love or everlasting life through the atonement of his son Jesus Christ, and how the great building represents the worldly that everyone desires  even so much that they would leave the rod and risk becoming lost in mist and desolation in order to obtain some worldly pleasure. In the end even if this pleasure was found they fall into desolation all the same never tasting of the joy that can come from following god. I love being in the service of my God and while it may be hard sometimes and require me to put my head down and trudge forward on the straight and narrow path I am trying to follow, at the end after my hands are blistered and tired from cleaving to the rod of iron and my legs are sore and no longer want to take another step that I can partake of this joyful fruit and love of that God has given me and in turn share it with others i meet. Brothers and Sisters we are all sons and daughters of a loving heavenly father that wants us to return to him, I know that as we follow his word it may be hard at times but we will have everlasting joy again someday. I love you all and can't wait to tell you all about what else the mission has in store so for now... A few things I realized I was missing upon arrival was laundry detergent and an SD card to USB converter for the computers, luckily I found one that allows an SD plugin but in the field, I wont be so lucky. My companion I mentioned in my first email is super rad his name is Elder Donaldson and he is a crazy basketball player. He's about 6' tall and super lean, he's got red hair and wears glasses. Also, just a side note super hairy arms..... I'm talking almost as hairs as my legs and that's saying something. we work together super well, I have really big plans and ideas for lessons that he is able to tone down to a level that is really easy for others to understand and he's been excellent at teaching me how to be a bit more simple and reserved which is a HUUGGEE blessing for our lessons.\n\n Upon discovering two nerf guns hidden in my luggage by a loving father and sisters my companion and I proceeded to terrorize the fourth flour (Our dorm in other words) behind us lay a trail of confused elders and lots of nerf balls. Later that night as we sat in a district meeting (a meeting of all companionships in our dorm) with the DP (District President) he assigned one of my good friends Elder Robinson to be our district leader. while he was being set apart elder Donaldson and I snuck into his room and took our stations. As he hid behind the cabinets I proceeded to take cover in Robinson's closet as soon as he walked into the room Donaldson sprung into action releasing a flurry of nerf balls at the DL who was taken by surprise and said he almost had a heart attack, however, I stayed in the closet. He said that his drinking has caused his wife and kids to move away and didn't know how to deal with it other than by drinking the stress away so elder Donaldson and I stepped in and told him that Christ understands our pains and afflictions and is there to help us if we come unto him and allow him to....... and that was about all we could prepare in Spanish so when he asked how Christ could take the sins of the world on himself my companion and I looked at each other and knew it was going to be an \"awesome discussion\", as we struggled through the rest of the discussion trying to no avail to get the message through in a way that made sense the craziest thing happened. I could understand every word he said.... not only that I was out of nowhere able to read the scriptures in Spanish and understand every verse as though it was my native language, It was truly a gift of tongues moment. With this new found understanding did not come the ability to speak as well, but in our broken Spanish we were able to settle minor questions and concerns as well as set an appointment for tonight.\n\n<center></center>\n\n I love this gospel and know that it is for everyone, It is simple and easy to understand so much so that two young elders having two days in Spanish training are able to talk about it with a fluent speaker and bring its spirit to the hearts of those in the room. My district is super awesome and we are getting really close and always go to classes and meals a big group of good looking young missionaries. <center>https://s14.postimg.org/n40d6plip/district_mtc.jpg</center>\n\nThe other day My companion and I were ready for breakfast just a little bit earlier than our friends and when I walked over to their room to tell them that we were going to head out for breakfast I was met with an empty room because everyone was in the showers at the same time. Not thinking much of it I just closed their door and then with the resounding click at the close it dawned on me..... I had sealed their fate. not even five minutes later there were four young men stranded in the hallway in nothing but towels and not a single one of them in possession of a key to unlock their room and get ready. I quickly fled the scene with my companion to the howling wails of angry elders trying to blame the closed door problem on someone who was no longer in the building! How they eventually got in I will never know the next time I saw them they were sprinting full speed into class ten minutes late panting like tired dogs. None of them thought it was super funny at the time but looking back at it four new kids stuck in the hallway of their dorms with nothing but towels all crying about how their door was closed is pretty funny after the fact.\n<center>Robinson in my hammock that has proven very popular</center><center>![hammock.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmPzTGBMoGpUmwYoTW8GzYJ3X69YuvfQzh8o861Uczrysp/hammock.JPG)</center>\n\n Our first investigator turned out to be our new teacher in disguise, we didn't know it at the time but he was taking notes on how to better teach us...... we  were all very un-ammused by  this story. His name is brother Manwaring and he's super rad, his teaching is really engaging and he's been teaching us how to really sit down and prepare easy lessons that can turn into super rad spiritual experiences. After his class we were told we are going to start TRC's which is basically the same as before where we are assigned investigators and don't know if they're members or not..... from what they've told us it's about a 50/50 chance of getting an actual investigator!!!! all of us are a mix of nerves and excitement as this whole new process starts on monday.\n\n<center></center>\n\n I'm really happy to be out here learning about the restored gospel and with the opprotunity I have to share It with new people every day and for my testimony to grow in ways I never even knew it could!!! I know that this gospel is true, it's a gospel of eternal joy and blessings. I wish the best for everyone  back home and love getting emails  from you all can't wait to see what the next week will bring!!\n\nP.S Halloween isn't really celebrated here by the MTC so in the dorm we are trying to put something together for everyone, everyone is asking for bags of candy and stuff to pass around and trade since we don't really get to go trick-or-treating. It feels really surreal right now to finally be here after 18 years of prepping. I already found my companion too, I was walking around looking super lost, stumbled into a random elevator and a random kid goes \"Elder your name is Race Joshua McBride Huh\". I was blown away and when I asked how he knew he showed me that on an information packet we recieved earlier today that we were listed as companions to each other. He helped me to class where I talked to teacher telling her I was from San Diego California and that my Spanish was very bad to which she replied' \"at least your accent is good\" (but in Spanish.... I can't speak even that well yet) Just wanted to let you know that im all right and excited to be here. My prep day is Saturday and that's when I'll be sending home emails for the next six weeks. I am 19 years old and love Surfing, Skating, outdoors, having fun and all kinds of stuff. I don’t know why but it took a long time for my Steemit account to be approved. Maybe it’s just because my dad has not been checking my emails and it sat for a while\n \n<center>Let me explain.</center>\n \nMy father Josh McBride or @dailydoodle is currently managing my account for me. Why you ask? Well back in October I left on a Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) or (Mormons). I was called to serve in Santa Fe, Argentina, which is pretty far from Vista CA. The plan for now is to have my Steemit Blog help pay for my mission. You see Mormon Missionaries do not get paid to serve a mission. Instead we pay our own way and the reward is spiritual growth and amazing experiences. When I return home from the mission I plan on personally continuing with my Steemit account to help supplement my life. For now I leave what is posted to my dad.  He will be posting my weekly emails that I send to my family.\n \nAs Missionaries there are some rules we all follow. No Dating, no swimming, no calling or skyping home except on Mother’s Day and Christmas. In bed by a certain time and up by a certain time. There are study times, exercise times, clean up times and we are always with another missionary 24/7, except to go to the bathroom and stuff like that.  The person we are assigned to stick to is called our Companion. We do get to send a weekly email to our families and friends and read the communications they send us.  This applies to snail mail as well.\n \nSince it has been a few months since I reported to my mission my dad will post the emails beginning with the day I reported to the MTC (Mission Training Center) and keep them coming a little more often than weekly until we are caught up to the present.\n \n<center>Some things to know.</center>\n \nMy dad served a mission back in the early 90’s in Resistencia, Argentina. Since then more missions have been added in Argentina and there are now areas in my mission that geographically overlap with where my dad served his mission. We do not pick where we go on our missions. That is decided by the leaders of our church through inspiration and revelation. So serving where my Father served is something very special for us both.   We will be able to relate and share some similar life changing experiences, which is super exciting for us both. \n \nI am the oldest of 5 kids. 2 sisters, who are 16 and 12 years old.  After a 7 year break my parents decided 3 kids weren't enough and had my 2 baby brothers ages 3 and 5 years old, at least that is how old they are today. She really is amazing.\n \nOn this post I am posting a few things that show who I was pre mission.  Some of this has been posted on my dad’s site because it is a video of me and my buddy Dominic surfing at the Oceanside Harbor. Kind of our local spot. This is all for now since I’m presently in Argentina. I love surfing and probably miss it more than anything else, besides loved ones of course.  Didn't forget you mom! A few things I realized I was missing upon arrival was laundry detergent and an SD card to USB converter for the computers, luckily I found one that allows an SD plugin but in the field, I wont be so lucky. My companion I mentioned in my first email is super rad his name is Elder Donaldson and he is a crazy basketball player. He's about 6' tall and super lean, he's got red hair and wears glasses. Also, just a side note super hairy arms..... I'm talking almost as hairs as my legs and that's saying something. we work together super well, I have really big plans and ideas for lessons that he is able to tone down to a level that is really easy for others to understand and he's been excellent at teaching me how to be a bit more simple and reserved which is a HUUGGEE blessing for our lessons.\n\n Upon discovering two nerf guns hidden in my luggage by a loving father and sisters my companion and I proceeded to terrorize the fourth flour (Our dorm in other words) behind us lay a trail of confused elders and lots of nerf balls. Later that night as we sat in a district meeting (a meeting of all companionships in our dorm) with the DP (District President) he assigned one of my good friends Elder Robinson to be our district leader. while he was being set apart elder Donaldson and I snuck into his room and took our stations. As he hid behind the cabinets I proceeded to take cover in Robinson's closet as soon as he walked into the room Donaldson sprung into action releasing a flurry of nerf balls at the DL who was taken by surprise and said he almost had a heart attack, however, I stayed in the closet. My companion and district make fun of me because I've developed a habit of switching between the two and mixing them a lot of the time (for example i don't say but anymore instead I say pero and it trips them up). My district is super awesome and we are getting really close and always go to classes and meals a big group of good looking young missionaries. <center>https://s14.postimg.org/n40d6plip/district_mtc.jpg</center>\n\nThe other day My companion and I were ready for breakfast just a little bit earlier than our friends and when I walked over to their room to tell them that we were going to head out for breakfast I was met with an empty room because everyone was in the showers at the same time. Not thinking much of it I just closed their door and then with the resounding click at the close it dawned on me..... I had sealed their fate. not even five minutes later there were four young men stranded in the hallway in nothing but towels and not a single one of them in possession of a key to unlock their room and get ready. I quickly fled the scene with my companion to the howling wails of angry elders trying to blame the closed door problem on someone who was no longer in the building! How they eventually got in I will never know the next time I saw them they were sprinting full speed into class ten minutes late panting like tired dogs. None of them thought it was super funny at the time but looking back at it four new kids stuck in the hallway of their dorms with nothing but towels all crying about how their door was closed is pretty funny after the fact.\n<center>Robinson in my hammock that has proven very popular</center><center>![hammock.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmPzTGBMoGpUmwYoTW8GzYJ3X69YuvfQzh8o861Uczrysp/hammock.JPG)</center>\n\n Our first investigator turned out to be our new teacher in disguise, we didn't know it at the time but he was taking notes on how to better teach us...... we  were all very un-ammused by  this story. His name is brother Manwaring and he's super rad, his teaching is really engaging and he's been teaching us how to really sit down and prepare easy lessons that can turn into super rad spiritual experiences. After his class we were told we are going to start TRC's which is basically the same as before where we are assigned investigators and don't know if they're members or not..... from what they've told us it's about a 50/50 chance of getting an actual investigator!!!! all of us are a mix of nerves and excitement as this whole new process starts on monday.\n\n<center></center>\n\n I'm really happy to be out here learning about the restored gospel and with the opprotunity I have to share It with new people every day and for my testimony to grow in ways I never even knew it could!!! I know that this gospel is true, it's a gospel of eternal joy and blessings. I wish the best for everyone  back home and love getting emails  from you all can't wait to see what the next week will bring!!\n\nP.S Halloween isn't really celebrated here by the MTC so in the dorm we are trying to put something together for everyone, everyone is asking for bags of candy and stuff to pass around and trade since we don't really get to go trick-or-treating.
