| body | *An account of the Battle of Stockton, from the perspective of various members of the Women's Home Auxiliary Volunteer Unit of the Imperial Japanese Army.* **May 15, 2014 Stockton, CA, North American Federation** (氷木 織 -- ORI HYOMOKU) I love tanks. They're strong, sturdy, and no one can stand in their way. Especially Rebs. Oh sure, they could shoot at us with RPGs and plant IEDs wherever they want, but tanks are more than their treads and their cannons. Our tank gunners slaughtered the hell out of the Rebs while I manned the main gun. Three of us rolled down the streets of Stockton and blasted Reb filth left, right, and center. The cavalry was here, and we were in no mood to play games with these dummies. I loaded a shell and fired. Reb guts went flying. A rocket sailed over our heads. Its shooter became a stain on a wall. Grenades fell out of an apartment window. We got some distance, and there was no more apartment. Fuck the civilians; they were -- and still are -- just as guilty. The only good Reb is a dead Reb. We made our advance toward city hall; it was clear who held the whip hand here. No enemy armor awaited us, so I figured it was smooth sailing. I spoke way too soon. Fucking IEDs on the road leading up to the building took out our treads, and we had to climb out of our stinking engines of death for some fresh smoky air. Klansmen waited for us, but the tank's machine guns still worked so they weren't too much of a problem. We had to leave the tanks, though. Surrounded by friendly troops, me and the rest of the tank crew drew our pistols and advanced toward city hall, already on fire since another unit got in first. Happy as a clam, I rushed ahead with the other troops close behind, then ran inside the smoky building. Everywhere was gray and hot, but the muzzle flashes from Reb rifles showed me where to shoot. One after another, we cleared the rooms, but I wanted to get to the roof. I ignored my CO's whining and dashed up some steps. There were some Rebs, but my bullets cured them of life. After that, I got on the roof and saw the Stars and Bars flying around like a big middle finger to the Emperor. Watching my step, I walked over to it to pull it down. Then an enemy helicopter showed up. Its guns shot at me, but I rolled to the side just in time. I knew I wouldn't be able to keep this up forever, so I unclipped a grenade, removed the pin, and threw, hoping and hoping I'd hit. I balled myself up. Boom. Tango down. Also my right hand down, because a ton of shrapnel flew right into it. With the last of my strength, I pulled down the rebel rag. I just tossed it away since it hurt too much to try and use my lighter. Thankfully, the rest of the unit reached me. While the CO led me away, my buddies put up the Hinomaru. We ruled Stockton now. *Top photo is ID 970315-N-0000S-008, taken by Photographer's Mate 2nd Class Brett Siegel, US Navy.* *All my stories can be found [here.](http://rawlenyanzi.com/welcome)* .png) *I'm Rawle Nyanzi, a professional author who seeks only to entertain. | body | *An account of the Battle of Stockton, from the perspective of various members of the Women's Home Auxiliary Volunteer Unit of the Imperial Japanese Army.* **May 15, 2014 Stockton, CA, North American Federation** (沙々木雅結 -- MAYU SASAKI) One shot, one kill. That is the way of the sniper. I hid in a damaged elementary school classroom, viewing the bloody streets of Stockton through my scope. I spied men in black ski masks and ill-fitting camouflage. Rebs, the nationalist regulars. I glanced, I saw, I killed. A pile of bodies was suspicious, so I left the classroom and went over to a teachers' lounge at the far end of the school. Glass shards lay on the ground, for the vending machine was looted long ago. I went to the window. Men in triangular white hoods. Ku Klux Klan, nationalist guerrilla forces. My scope fell upon them, and then my bullets. No wasted shots. Each kill heightened my confidence. I might make it through this after all. I wanted nothing more than to curl up with a book again, without fear of artillery blowing up my camp. I wasn't sure how structurally sound the school building was, but a rush of confidence came over me in that moment. I hurried up the steps to the second floor, but this time, I faced the opposite direction from where I shot before. A mixed group of Rebs and Klansmen stood guard in front of city hall, and I had a clear shot at them. I got on one knee. I took aim. And I cut my forehead on the window's broken glass because the shockwave of an explosion tipped me over. For a shockwave to be that close, I dreaded the worst -- and when I went out the door and into a classroom, I only saw a wreck wide open to outside. Fearing more shells, I ran down the steps and went out the exit, but two more shells fell upon the school, and the explosive shockwaves sent me sliding across the concrete, bruised and scraped. As a headache pounded in my skull, I tried to find my bearings, but it didn't take me long to see that the nationalist soldiers from before were on their way to me. My rifle would be no use here. I drew my pistol. In a muzzle flash, my lead met their bodies, but it only slowed them, for they had ballistic vests under their clothes. The bullets knocking them down bought me some time; I ran somewhere, anywhere to get them off my back. They fired after me, and I did a zigzag pattern to throw off their aim. Only to zigzag right into three rounds. Though my own ballistic vest caught it, I was knocked to the ground yet again, but this time, the nationalists surrounded me at once, their own pistols drawn. I was disarmed in an instant, and they forced me to my knees. They pulled my helmet off and tossed it away. "Hmm, this one's pretty underneath all the camo," a Reb said. "Who cares? Let's shoot this Nip bitch and be done with it," a Klansman barked. "No, we have to play it smart and press her for information," the Reb from befofre said. To press me for information could only mean one thing. "Tie her hands. We're taking her prisoner," the Reb said. The Klansman slammed my face in the ground and bound my hands behind my back with thick rope. Then then pulled me to my feet and frog-marched me across an area they still controlled, then stuffed me in the back of a truck. Thus began an ordeal I will not recount, not even here. *Top photo is ID 970315-N-0000S-008, taken by Photographer's Mate 2nd Class Brett Siegel, US Navy.* *All my stories can be found [here.](http://rawlenyanzi.com/welcome)* .png) *I'm Rawle Nyanzi, a professional author who seeks only to entertain. | title | Pulse-Pounding Wartime Stories -- Risa Yamanote |
| body | **An account of the Battle of Stockton, from the perspective of various members of the Women's Home Auxiliary Volunteer Unit of the Imperial Japanese Army.** May 15, 2014 Stockton, CA, North American Federation (山手理沙 -- Risa Yamanote) So much death. So much blood. So many mangled bodies. Life wasn't supposed to end up this way. Bullets everywhere. Explosions that shredded my ears, that shredded my friends and family, and shredded my home, too. The Rebs had to pay for what they'd done. Me and the other girls in the unit could see the Stars and Bars fluttering over Stockton City Hall. The Rebs had dug in deep, and our commander told us to just go in and take as many of the enemy as we could with us. But I wanted to live. I couldn't let them destroy me. I scrambled for my rocket launcher, for I couldn't throw grenades very well. Once I loaded up, I got behind the sandbags and fired. The enemy position became a mess of red and pink. Satisfied, I laid down the launcher and picked up my rifle; it was time to move. Stepping on skulls and brains and God knows what else, me and the other girls advanced, always ready to close with the enemy. More than once, our bullets hit their mark, and Rebs dropped all around us. But I stayed tense. I knew the worst was yet to come. Out of nowhere, a pickup truck full of Ku Klux Klan partisans rammed through the back of us; too many of my comrades became nothing more than roadkill. I laid into them with my rifle, running back to put some distance between them and me. I took a grenade from my belt and threw it right at them, then ran for it. When it blew up, the Klansmen were no more. But they succeeded at one thing: they split us up. Alone, deep in enemy territory, I watched every window, every alleyway, every destroyed car. Sound and fury surrounded me, as did the dying screams of men and women both, but there was nothing where I was, only rubble. I took advantage of this and moved to where I thought the others in my unit would be, but an artillery barrage out of nowhere forced me to change direction. And then, I heard noises in the alley across from me. Rifle at the ready, I was about to shoot down anyone who threatened me. But when I saw who it was, I hesitated. They were just children. I was about to gun down children! "Hey, I mean you no harm. Follow me; I'l try to get you to the nearest refugee camp," I said. Our mission was already a failure, so I had to leave having accomplished something. The children gathered behind me, their protector, and we made our way through the broken streets and collapsed shops, looking for the safest path we could. It was like everything conspired to make my task easy; the battle had moved well east of me, not so many artillery rounds landed around here, and we hadn't stepped on an IED yet. Nonetheless, I knew that it would only be a matter of time before something went wrong. But nervous as I was, nothing happened. I found myself among fellow Japanese troops, as well as some of our still-loyal NAF people. So that was why I didn't encounter the enemy in this part of town -- our boys already took it. I lowered my weapon and ran up to whoever looked like he was in charge. "Sarge! Sarge! I found these children by an alleyway. We need to get them to a refugee camp-" I jumped when he whipped out his pistol and shot one of the children right in the face. "You stupid girl!" he shouted. I looked behind me...and the children all had guns aimed right at us. Time seemed to slow down. "You damn Nips surrender right now!" one of the older boys said. I didn't dare turn away, but I wasn't sure the other troops would help; they had the commanding officer hostage, and I got caught up in it, too. "Drop your weapons or we'll shoot," another kid said. I had to decide. If I raised my weapon, I had to open fire, or I would die. But they were just kids, even now, I couldn't find it in my heart to just blow them away. But I couldn't let my comrades down. I couldn't let my country down. I couldn't let my Emperor down. As fast as I could, I raised my weapon and unleashed a river of lead. The children exploded into messes of blood and guts before they even realized what was happening, but I wasn't done -- oh no. I reloaded, walked over to their mangled, groaning bodies, and blew their brains out. Each and every one of them. "Excellent work," I heard the officer say, but I just stared at what I had done, not out of shame, but out of duty. If I wanted my life back, I had to fight for it by any means necessary. Even if it meant shooting children. *Top photo is ID 970315-N-0000S-008, taken by Photographer's Mate 2nd Class Brett Siegel, US Navy.* *All my stories can be found [here.](http://rawlenyanzi.com/welcome)* .png) *I'm Rawle Nyanzi, a professional author who seeks only to entertain. | body | # Steemit Hiatus After a few weeks on this platform, I have decided to take a hiatus from it. This does not come from a desire to stop posting here, but rather because I'm working on a pretty major writing project that demands all of my spare time. I simply cannot maintain this Steemit page and write what I need to write. I'm quite serious about getting this done, too; ordinarily, I'd spend a lot of time playing *Fire Emblem Heroes,* but now I'm largely ignoring it, only dipping in to pick up the daily orb rewards. I really want to bring this next project to everyone, and I'll need to fire on all cylinders to see it through. Wish me luck! *Top image from [here.](http://maxpixel.freegreatpicture.com/Computer-Notebook-Desk-Laptop-Table-Work-Office-601540)* *All my stories can be found [here.](http://rawlenyanzi.com/welcome)* .png) *I'm Rawle Nyanzi, a professional author who seeks only to entertain. | body | # Pulse-Pounding Wartime Stories **An account of the Battle of Stockton, from the perspective of various members of the Women's Home Auxiliary Volunteer Unit of the Imperial Japanese Army.** May 15, 2014 Stockton, CA, North American Federation (氷木 織 -- ORI HYOMOKU) I love tanks. **Pulse-Pounding Wartime Stories** [Mayu Sasaki](https://steemit.com/fiction/@rawlenyanzi/pulse-pounding-wartime-stories-mayu-sasaki) *Above photo from US Navy, 970315-N-0000S-008, by Photographer's Mate 2nd Class Brett Siegel* *All my stories can be found [here.](http://rawlenyanzi.com/welcome)* .png) *I'm Rawle Nyanzi, a professional author who seeks only to entertain. | title | Pulse-Pounding Wartime Stories -- Mayu Sasaki |
| body | # Pulse-Pounding Wartime Stories **An account of the Battle of Stockton, from the perspective of various members of the Women's Home Auxiliary Volunteer Unit of the Imperial Japanese Army.** May 15, 2014 Stockton, CA, North American Federation (沙々木雅結 -- MAYU SASAKI) One shot, one kill. "body": "\n\n# Pulse-Pounding Wartime Stories\n\n**An account of the Battle of Stockton, from the perspective of various members of the Women's Home Auxiliary Volunteer Unit of the Imperial Japanese Army.**\n\nMay 15, 2014\nStockton, CA, North American Federation\n\n(沙々木雅結 -- MAYU SASAKI)\n\nOne shot, one kill. That is the way of the sniper.\n\nI hid in a damaged elementary school classroom, viewing the bloody streets of Stockton through my scope. I spied men in black ski masks and ill-fitting camouflage.\n\nRebs, the nationalist regulars. I glanced, I saw, I killed.\n\nA pile of bodies was suspicious, so I left the classroom and went over to a teachers' lounge at the far end of the school. Glass shards lay on the ground, for the vending machine was looted long ago.\n\nI went to the window. Men in triangular white hoods. Ku Klux Klan, nationalist guerrilla forces.\n\nMy scope fell upon them, and then my bullets. No wasted shots.\n\nEach kill heightened my confidence. I might make it through this after all. I wanted nothing more than to curl up with a book again, without fear of artillery blowing up my camp.\n\nI wasn't sure how structurally sound the school building was, but a rush of confidence came over me in that moment. I hurried up the steps to the second floor, but this time, I faced the opposite direction from where I shot before. A mixed group of Rebs and Klansmen stood guard in front of city hall, and I had a clear shot at them.\n\nI got on one knee.\n\nI took aim.\n\nAnd I cut my forehead on the window's broken glass because the shockwave of an explosion tipped me over.\n\nFor a shockwave to be that close, I dreaded the worst -- and when I went out the door and into a classroom, I only saw a wreck wide open to outside.\n\nFearing more shells, I ran down the steps and went out the exit, but two more shells fell upon the school, and the explosive shockwaves sent me sliding across the concrete, bruised and scraped. As a headache pounded in my skull, I tried to find my bearings, but it didn't take me long to see that the nationalist soldiers from before were on their way to me.\n\nMy rifle would be no use here. I drew my pistol. In a muzzle flash, my lead met their bodies, but it only slowed them, for they had ballistic vests under their clothes.\n\nThe bullets knocking them down bought me some time; I ran somewhere, anywhere to get them off my back. They fired after me, and I did a zigzag pattern to throw off their aim.\n\nOnly to zigzag right into three rounds.\n\nThough my own ballistic vest caught it, I was knocked to the ground yet again, but this time, the nationalists surrounded me at once, their own pistols drawn.\n\nI was disarmed in an instant, and they forced me to my knees. They pulled my helmet off and tossed it away.\n\n\"Hmm, this one's pretty underneath all the camo,\" a Reb said.\n\n\"Who cares? Let's shoot this Nip bitch and be done with it,\" a Klansman barked.\n\n\"No, we have to play it smart and press her for information,\" the Reb from befofre said.\n\nTo press me for information could only mean one thing.\n\n\"Tie her hands. We're taking her prisoner,\" the Reb said. The Klansman slammed my face in the ground and bound my hands behind my back with thick rope. Then then pulled me to my feet and frog-marched me across an area they still controlled, then stuffed me in the back of a truck.\n\nThus began an ordeal I will not recount, not even here.\n\n**Pulse-Pounding Wartime Stories**\n[Risa Yamanote](https://steemit.com/fiction/@rawlenyanzi/pulse-pounding-wartime-stories-risa-yamanote)\n\n*Above photo from US Navy, 970315-N-0000S-008, by Photographer's Mate 2nd Class Brett Siegel*\n\n*All my stories can be found [here.](http://rawlenyanzi.com/welcome)*\n\n.png)\n\n*I'm Rawle Nyanzi, a professional author who seeks only to entertain.
