| body | Good point. AI may not happen for a long time, but it is still worth discussing given the impact that it will have. "Define intelligence and I'll be impressed." Your right, it is extremely hard to define intelligence (both philosophically and practically). I can't do this. Yet, I truthfully don't think it matters. Yes I am using the word artificial *intelligence*. Please disregard this. What we are talking about are machines that can do more and more things. In fact, machines that can do things that we can't do. Whether they are intelligent or just relying on code, this doesn't seem to make a difference. Either one will impact humanity the same because I am ONLY focusing on outcomes. Let me know if that made sense |

| body | Good to see a fellow market anarchist on here. I encountered something similar in South America. When I would go out to eat, I would regularly eat at the road-side barbecues. They sound like the most dangerous places to eat, but I never got sick by eating there. I noticed that there were people who would frequent these places and provide an incentive to make safe food by their patronage. No inspectors, no food handlers permits; just me and the owner. I used my head (you know, that thing that tells you if something is dangerous or not) and could usually tell by the customer base if I was going to get sick or not. I ate at those stands for about $1 to $1.50 for a big meal. Now tell me where you can find that in the States? |

| body | Intelligent machines equaling or surpassing humanity will not be created until what we have is already understood. As intelligence isn't defined, don't expect me to hold my breath. The chess example is a poor one. This is a matter of rote memorization and not intelligence per se. It's been shown that low IQ people can become proficient at chess, thus discounting it as a measure of intelligence. The advancement of neuroscience and mores law doesn't necessarily correlate to reproduction of a working intelligent machine. Define intelligence and I'll be impressed. Until then, this is just another flying car. |

Yours is the dangerous ideology. The Luddite position has been shown to be false every time a Chicken Little pops up and every time we advance in both health and resources. | body | I believe in a private contractural system that is negotiated between all the parties who voluntarily become party to it. The base contract would cover things such as property rights, torts, and other societal norms and provide a mechanism for resolving disputes through third-party arbitration. It would function like a constitution but be completely opt-in and and voluntary to leave. This is a monumental task, and a work in progress, but I believe it can be done. |

| body | You're seriously complaining that a tag that users didn't like to read disappeared because of a lack of interestest? That's just nonsense. The tag hasn't been removed by the admins, there was just basically no content at all so it disappeared. When more people write about Anarchy again, it'll be there again. |

| body |

Anarchy Tag has Disappeared

Bye anarchists! I hope you enjoyed your time on steem. Your content is **not** welcome here.

I posted my first story on Steemit, hoping for some recognition. I really enjoyed an article I read here about anarchy and so I wanted to contribute to what I know about it. I write furiously for a few hours. I find some pictures, organize my tags and edit it carefully for errors. Then I post and find that the anarchy tag has disappeared.

Censorship or Mistake?

I'm not one to call for a witch hunt. I don't have time to lead a crusade against malicious admins. Why bother? They control the content and I am but a lowly Steemit serf. I have no Steem Power here.

But, I wonder if this was done on purpose or if it slipped through the cracks?

It's not hard to notice the anarchy tag. It was at the very start of the alphabet, the peak of the tags. That's partially why I chose it. It was visible, until it wasn't.

Where did it go? Was it removed? I know there are a number of contributors to it. It was a prolific body of work that seemed to go invisible at about the time I posted. And, like any market, everybody stopped making posts relating to anarchy. This isn't a marketing decision. This is censorship either by error or on purpose.

My Own Future Here

I was planning on making a whole series on anarchy and its many branches. It's a subject near to my heart. This future is on hold indefinitely until I can figure this out. Why should I add my work to a platform that hides it? Nobody will see it. Yes, I want Steem. I also want recognition for scholarly work well written. I am virtually guaranteed to not get it now.

I was sceptical in my last post about Steems future and the content suffering due to, what I'll call 'the 9-5 effect'. Now, it seems that my ideas are actively censored and tossed into the garbage for being unpopular. This is the very opposite of the meritocracy that this place is supposedly built on.

I'll probably leave this place. My work is not worth the effort. I'll go back to Reddit and post there. Believe it or not, what I write isn't censored there.

I write long posts there, too. I love writing on the subject of anarchy and markets. That's why I do it: love. For me to love it, I need it to be read, to be critiqued and viewed by an audience.

Here, my audience has been stolen from me.

#anarchy #censorship

|

| body | I think it will level out after a while when there more definitive tags and people are more informed. On the whole, I think that posting **mainly** for cash will bring out the worst. If I tried, I could probably come up with a more popular subject and better content, but my heart would be in it like I was flipping burgers at the local fast food place. Many of the posts here seem sterile, like a Facebook post to mom. I know this place is young so I'm not going to write it off yet. I'm actually quite excited to watch a unique community grow. This is a first of its kind, afik. |

Taking a look around here it seems that the content here is a bit off. Does anybody wonder why that is? I think I know why and it's built into the platform itself. Let's see if I can lay it out in a way that makes sense.

The Profit Motive

Making money isn't a bad thing. If you think it's bad, then you probably haven't been paying attention to the point of Steemit and Steem. I'm here to make money. Come on, admit it. You are too. Maybe there are a few altruists and some that want a platform with something different, but that's not what made me try it.

I like markets and capitalism. They have a way of providing for all of the wonderful needs and wants that all of us enjoy in the modern era. The invisible hand, some call it. It brought us smartphones and Ferraris, McDonalds and yoga pants.

There is some things that pure capitalism can't do and I'm witnessing it here on Steemit. One of such is to speak ones mind without consequenses. This may sound odd, but let me explain.

The Self-Censorship of a Job

If anyone here has ever worked for a company (I'm guessing most of us) then we know that speaking our mind to a customer isn't encouraged. To do, say, a food service job, we must hold our tongue when a customer treats us badly or makes a mess. We can't tell the customer; "You smell badly" or even something as simple as "I think you're wrong". 'The customer is always right' is a phrase I've heard since I was a child. In general, it's true; if you want to keep your customers, a business must make them happy, or at least not make them angry. This is where Steemit gets complicated.

You see, we are all selling our posts to the customer. You are the customer. On a platform like Reddit, I can post nice content or give valid criticism. Here, I must sell my ideas to all of you.

I can't give my real opinion for fear of losing your business. I also have to give an opinion you find acceptable if I want you to read what I write. I can't post something about my interests. If I do, it has to be something that many people find valuable. This isn't bad. The greatest value gives the greatest good, in my opinion. But, to put it bluntly, I'm not free to tell all of you to fuck off.

The Enforced Mediocrity of the 9-5

What if I posted something that 90% of people disagreed with but was absolutely true? Do you think I would make any Steem? It could be something valuable to your life, like information about your health. If there is a bias, there is no motive to post continuously about it. I would lose- or never gain -any customers.

What if I were to disagree with people here? Do you think that they will be benevolent and give me Steem by voting for it? I think not. Very few will. Most won't. It doesn't matter if I'm right, it matters if I'm popular. The content suffers because of this.

Lets put it another way. Everyone sees the trending posts when they come here. I haven't done a formal count, but about half of them are meta posts about how to make more Steem. This is valuable information if your job is Steem, but it doesn't help to give a different perspective than a common advertiser. Let's face it: these are no better than advertisements for how to use this "one weird trick!" to make you rich.

It's very tempting. You come in to Steem and see a post with something like $10,000 Steem on it. We all want the big bucks, right? Who wouldn't look at that and think; "I wonder how I could do that.". So, for many people, instead of sharing something interesting it becomes like a job.

The profit motive is good for the front page, but what about everybody chasing that Steem by posting what they think will get them rich? Well, take a look at the new posts and tell me.

The Robot Problem

Anyone who has been here for longer than a day has heard about the bots. You can see them in all of the most popular posts. They're a symptom of the same profit motive that causes the meta posts and rent-seeking.

Once again, I love the profit motive for creating new and exciting technologies. On the other hand, it creates a stronger motive for making bots than it does for suppressing them as community members. The thing is, I don't know how to solve this one short of paying bounties for flagging bots, but this opens a new can of worms for abuse.

So, it seems we are stuck with the bots for now. Some even find them valuable at times. I don't have a problem with them really. They seem innocuous for the time being.

{Insert Meme Here}

The use of flashy pictures and memes are a way to get attention to a post. I plan on putting at least one in so somebody besides the bots will read it. From a pure content perspective, it wouldn't make what I'm writing better or worse. It's a way to get views; a means to an end. I want people to read this and (if I'm worthy) to get some of that sweet Steem. So, I'll put a picture in. Probably a satirical one with something bright and shiny.

Yeah.

For Sale, Self-Respect; Claim One Owner

Has anyone noticed that most posts look like those articles that pose as advertisements? I have. I noticed when I was writing my own ad. I felt like a salesman trying to sell my new idea for the low, low price of $29.95. But you know what? I did it anyways. So much for sleaze.

I Hate All of You.

Lets see if I can make myself into the first Steem pariah, shall we? Who knows? Maybe you'll all love me for my honesty.

If the rest of the internet is any indication I'll be hated by most, loved by the outcasts. I don't want to be 4chan, but I don't want to be a human billboard, either.

I think I'll balance it out until I either break big or lose interest. What, you think I'm being greedy? I promise you, this is what's going to happen to most people if the profit motive rules here. Who would stay in a place where there's little love and no motivation to tell the customer to fuck off?

I don't mind going to work, but I wouldn't want to relax there, surrounded by co-workers and customers alike. It would be like taking your boss out to a frat party or inviting a customer to smoke a joint behind the dumpster. It happens, but it's not common.

DON'T FORGET TO LIKE, SUBSCRIBE AND SHARE!!!1!! IT MEANS ALOT TO ME!!

Sorry. I'm not sure where that came from.

#meta

|

| body | Pretty damn close to the truth to be honest. The wood paneling I have no idea why they chose it, since the house was built in then 80s but I was to cheap to redesign it. I work in the ghetto and the guy stole the headset in order to get his tire fixed. (he gave them to me in order to get himself back on the road) However the drugs I dont touch anymore. I retired that scene at a young age. Working in the area where it sells all to well, though makes me want to change my mind at any given moment. As for the calender, it was a family gift. I am a family man hence why dropping the drug scene was easy. Family will always be #1. Thanks for the first actual roast! Bring your friends and make me feel roasted then hearing the truth :) |

| body | Wouldn't the greater production mean a higher capacity to create new products? Color me sceptical, but I don't see how the profit motive will be eliminated by increased innovation when all thoughout history, innovation and even automation have increased along side greater capital markets and instruments for running them. In other words, I think capitalism will shift into new realms of production rather than be pushed to the margins. I could agree with the premise of the book if human needs were finite and materials were infinite, but the exact opposite is true. Once we invent new forms of production it may cause temporary disruption of the old means, but we have always invented new ones to strive for. I don't see this trend changing. |

| body |

The Agora

The marketplace is one of the oldest institutions known to man. The heart of any city is its market where goods are bought, sold, traded, bargained for, and (sometimes) stolen. From Ancient Greece to modern shopping malls, the marketplace hasn't changed much in all that time. 'Agora' in Greek means an open area for meeting and marketplaces. In ancient times, this is where the action was. It was the town square and the grocery store all in one.

The Grand Bazaar, Istanbul. One of the oldest covered markets in the world

Black Markets

I wasn't alive then, but my guess is that when the first tyrant banned the first product, the first black market was created.

As many people on Steemit know, people are rarely satisfied when something is banned. It doesn't matter if it's speech or items; people want to be free to get what they want. When they aren't free to get it in the open market, they go to the black market. This has been true for as long as history has been written down and most likely before that. Prohibition of alcohol in the United States didn't stop the speakeasies and bootleggers- on the contrary, it allowed them to thrive. Here we are again, back into the new prohibition of our times, the 'Drug War'.

Most people think of drugs when they hear 'black market, but it's far greater than that. With all the ridiculous laws we have now, if someone gives a dollar to someone and they don't report the dollar as income, they are a part of the black market. Even Steem Power and Dollars could be considered income by the thieves in Washington! If I fail to report it, I have just participated in the black market. It's far more common than you think.

Agorism: Black Markets + Activism

When I was 18 years old or so, I had an idea for a form of activism that involved my more... 'unregulated activities'. I saw my participation in the black market as a statement of personal freedom from state control as well as being a lot of fun. I didn't know it at the time, but I had just become an Agorist. After about 10 years or so, I became more sophisticated and began imagining what could be done to create a society as a sort-of black market outside of the state. So, I began writing.

Not long after that, I found Samuel Konkin and Agorism itself. I read [An Agorist Primer](http://www.kopubco.com/pdf/An_Agorist_Primer_by_SEK3.pdf) and [The New Libertarian Manefesto](http://agorism.info/docs/NewLibertarianManifesto.pdf) and was at once depressed and excited. Depressed because my book had already been written and far better than I had imagined, excited in that I wasn't alone in thinking this way.

At this point, you may be asking what Agorism is and how does it help me? Let's see if I can convince you.

Agorist Theory

The problem that has plagued the minds of all anarchists and libertarians is one of strategy. How do we not only get rid of the state, but also build what's needed in a modern society? The solution of Konkin was to look at the market that already existed and to expand it into an structure itself that can compete with the state for services. That market is, as you might have guessed, the black market.

There are millions (probably billions) of people operating outside of the state already, why not expand that into a plan for eliminating the state? To do this, Konkin identified the steps to do so and created a term for the activity: counter-economics.

Counter-economics is "An explaination of how people keep their wealth from the state" as defined by Konkin in the New Libertarian Manefesto. It runs the entire range of activities that people do to keep their money from state theft, from radar detectors to tax havens. This is only the first part of the strategy, "our means" as Konkin puts it. The next part deals with "our strategy".

Before I move on, it's worth mentioning how one decides to partake in counter-economics. Konkin puts it best, so I'll let him explain. From the New Libertarian Manefesto:

>Using government figures on criminal apprehension, always exaggerated in the State's favor simply because they cannot know how much we got away with, I find an apprehension rate of 20%. One may then find out the percentage of those cases that come for trial and the percentage of those that result in conviction even with a good lawyer. Let's say 25% make it to trial and 50% result in conviction. (The latter is high but we'll throw in the legal fees involved so that even a decision involving loss of legal costs but acquittal is still a "loss.") I therefore incur a 2.5% risk (.20 x .25 x .50 = 0.025). This is high for most real cases.

>Suppose my maximum fine is $500,000 or five years in jail - or both. Excluding my counter-economic transactions (one certainly cannot count them when deciding whether or not to do them), I might make $20,000 a year so that I would lose another $100,000. It's very hard to ascribe a value to five years of incarceration, but at least in our present society it's not too much worse than other institutionalization (school, army, hospital) and at least the counter-economist won't be plagued with guilt and remorse.

>So I weigh 2.5% of $600,000 loss or $15,000 and five years against $100,000 gain! And I could easily insure myself for $14,000 (or less) to pay all costs and fines! In short, it works.

The formula from An Agorist Primer:

>Counter-Economic Payoff = profit minus loss = (Promised price) minus (cost minus overhead) minus ((Penalty or Fine) x (probability of arrest) x (probability of conviction))

>If positive, go. If negative, don’t go.

The Strategy

Konkin identified a number of steps to get to the ideal stateless society. It's a revolutionary strategy without the need to pick up a gun (at first). Because we won't be fighting an actual war, it must be done gradually. The steps are as follows.

Phase Zero: Zero-Density Agorist Society

In this phase, there are no counter economists or they are scattered and not organized. This is mostly what we see today. There is a black market, but the majority of the participants are not actively moving towards an Agorist society. At this phase, Agorists raise awareness of Agorism and promote it as best they can. ;)

Phase One: Low-Density Agorist Society

Here, we already have a number of Agorists but still a small number. The goal at this point is to continue the conversion and to also convince other anarchists that this is the best strategy. The first Agorist clubs are formed at this point to bring us together for the next phase. This stage is more involved, but I'll leave it to you to read more about it.

Phase Two: Mid-Density, Small Condensation Agorist Society

This is where it gets tricky. At this point, there is a contamination of Agorism in the host state. This is where it becomes more organized into physical communities and an umbrella organization. In this organization, there are spokespersons who can call for tolerance of Agorists and who can advertise for it being a superior way to live. Arrests are possible at this point, but unlikely. Once again, read the Manifesto to get the exact details.

Phase Three: High-Density, High condensation Agorist Society

The State is doomed at this point and all efforts should be concentrated to hiding this fact. The Agorists are the majority at this phase and counter-economic activities are everywhere. This is when the state will surely fight back. This is also when Agorists will organize a defense against the blowback of state violence.

Phase Four: Agorist Society with Statist Impurities

This is largely a mopping-up of the remnants of the state. The Agorist defense collapses into market competition and society becomes free.

Conclusion

Of course, this is a very basic view of Agorism and should only be taken as such. To learn more about it, you should read the source materials I posted above. I'll post some more links below. I'll also gladly answer any questions in the comments.

This is a compelling strategy for anyone who wishes to be free while not being broke at the same time. For many people who participate in dark markets on the web and in real life, this is a different way of thinking about their chosen way of life. Agorism not only gives a reason behind it, but a method of organizing it into something greater than individuals acting on their own behalf.

We are close to phase one and to phase two in some ways. The [Free State Project] (https://freestateproject.org) is what I would call a near-phase 2 project. There are other efforts as well but are more scattered. I'm certain that there are many people participating in counter-economics than even the state suspects. This is an effort to make the counter economists aware of Agorism and the ideas behind it.

I hope you'll join us!

Links and Sources of Information:

The New Libertarian Manesfesto: http://agorism.info/docs/NewLibertarianManifesto.pdf Read this first!

An Agorist Primer: http://www.kopubco.com/pdf/An_Agorist_Primer_by_SEK3.pdf The in-depth version.

Agorism forum: https://www.reddit.com/r/Agorism/ Lots of good info here. This stage is more involved, but I'll leave it to you to read more about it.
\n
Phase Two: Mid-Density, Small Condensation Agorist Society
\n
This is where it gets tricky. At this point, there is a contamination of Agorism in the host state. This is where it becomes more organized into physical communities and an umbrella organization. In this organization, there are spokespersons who can call for tolerance of Agorists and who can advertise for it being a superior way to live. Arrests are possible at this point, but unlikely. Once again, read the Manifesto to get the exact details.
\n
Phase Three: High-Density, High condensation Agorist Society
\n
The State is doomed at this point and all efforts should be concentrated to hiding this fact. The Agorists are the majority at this phase and counter-economic activities are everywhere. This is when the state will surely fight back. This is also when Agorists will organize a defense against the blowback of state violence.
\n
Phase Four: Agorist Society with Statist Impurities
\n
This is largely a mopping-up of the remnants of the state. The Agorist defense collapses into market competition and society becomes free.
\n

\n
Conclusion
\n
Of course, this is a very basic view of Agorism and should only be taken as such. To learn more about it, you should read the source materials I posted above. I'll post some more links below. I'll also gladly answer any questions in the comments.
\n
This is a compelling strategy for anyone who wishes to be free while not being broke at the same time. For many people who participate in dark markets on the web and in real life, this is a different way of thinking about their chosen way of life. Agorism not only gives a reason behind it, but a method of organizing it into something greater than individuals acting on their own behalf.
\n
We are close to phase one and to phase two in some ways. The [Free State Project] (https://freestateproject.org) is what I would call a near-phase 2 project. There are other efforts as well but are more scattered. I'm certain that there are many people participating in counter-economics than even the state suspects. This is an effort to make the counter economists aware of Agorism and the ideas behind it.
\n
I hope you'll join us!
\n
Links and Sources of Information:
\n
The New Libertarian Manesfesto: http://agorism.info/docs/NewLibertarianManifesto.pdf Read this first!
\n
An Agorist Primer: http://www.kopubco.com/pdf/An_Agorist_Primer_by_SEK3.pdf The in-depth version.
\n
Agorism forum: https://www.reddit.com/r/Agorism/ Lots of good info here. | body |

I read [An Agorist Primer] (http://www.kopubco.com/pdf/An_Agorist_Primer_by_SEK3.pdf) and [The New Libertarian Manefesto] (http://agorism.info/docs/NewLibertarianManifesto.pdf) and was at once depressed and excited.

"body": "
\n
The Agora
\n
The marketplace is one of the oldest institutions known to man. The heart of any city is its market where goods are bought, sold, traded, bargained for, and (sometimes) stolen. From Ancient Greece to modern shopping malls, the marketplace hasn't changed much in all that time. 'Agora' in Greek means an open area for meeting and marketplaces. In ancient times, this is where the action was. It was the town square and the grocery store all in one.
\n

\n
The Grand Bazaar, Istanbul. One of the oldest covered markets in the world
\n

\n
Black Markets
\n
I wasn't alive then, but my guess is that when the first tyrant banned the first product, the first black market was created.
\n
As many people on Steemit know, people are rarely satisfied when something is banned. It doesn't matter if it's speech or items; people want to be free to get what they want. When they aren't free to get it in the open market, they go to the black market. This has been true for as long as history has been written down and most likely before that. Prohibition of alcohol in the United States didn't stop the speakeasies and bootleggers- on the contrary, it allowed them to thrive. Here we are again, back into the new prohibition of our times, the 'Drug War'.
\n
Most people think of drugs when they hear 'black market, but it's far greater than that. With all the ridiculous laws we have now, if someone gives a dollar to someone and they don't report the dollar as income, they are a part of the black market. Even Steem Power and Dollars could be considered income by the thieves in Washington! If I fail to report it, I have just participated in the black market. It's far more common than you think.
\n

\n

\n
Agorism: Black Markets + Activism
\n
When I was 18 years old or so, I had an idea for a form of activism that involved my more... | body | I think I've died and gone to capitalist heaven. This has implications for modern adertising as well. These same market signals could be a way to finance modern media and journalism. This is far better than pop-up ads and banners. It remains to be seen how successful the Steemit model is, but I think it could work. In b4 someone writes an article about this and makes 10,000 steem from it. |
