      "body": "A Kenyan man, Mufutu Nyongesa, 25, from Tande village has died on Monday after drinking excessive amounts of alcohol on an empty stomach.\n\nNyongesa is said to have been drinking with friends at a local bar when they decided to have a competition. The prize was more alcohol for the one who managed to drink the most in the shortest time, reports Standard Media Kenya\n\nNyongesa is said to have gulped down two bottles of concentrated spirit donated by other revellers before he started experiencing stomach problems.\n\nThe deceased’s wife, Anne Naliaka, said he had left home to check on his motorcycle at a repair shop but did not return as promised.\n\n“He had asked me to cook ugali for supper but he didn’t show up. I felt bad, thinking he had decided to eat in a hotel. But later I received a phone call from someone saying he was vomiting and needed urgent medical attention,” Naliaka said.\n\nShe asked his friends to take him to hospital but he died on the way.\n\n“His friends told me he drank two bottles of spirit that was not mixed with water or soda yet he had not eaten,” she said.\n\nNyongesa’s friends said he may have died from drinking highly concentrated alcohol on an empty stomach and within a short time.",

      "body": "To ensure employee safety and health at the workplace, the Lagos State Government yesterday signed the Occupational Health and Policy Statement.\n\nSpeaking at the 2018 Vision Zero conference, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, noted that there was the need to be abreast of international best practices on work safety and health developments.\n\nThe event, tagged: A Mindset Change Towards Zero Harm, attracted speakers across all sectors.\n\nAmbode expressed hope that through sustained public and institutional enlightenment strategies, occupational injuries and illnesses would be reduced at workplaces.\n\nHis words: “The issue of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) at the workplace is paramount to industrial and economic growth and development of any society.\n\n“It is the duty of employers to guarantee the safety and welfare of employees in the workplace, especially in an environment that exposes the workers to hazardous situations, which may lead to loss of lives or body parts.\n\n“Government has the responsibility of providing guidelines and safety measures for employers of labour in the industrial sector to ensure that the lives of vulnerable workers are safeguarded against avoidable hazards in the workplace.”\n\nHe added that the conference is a demonstration of the state’s commitment to the implementation of the resolution reached at the 2017 XXI Word Congress held in Singapore on safety and health at the work place.\n\nDirector General, Lagos State Safety Commission (LSSC), Hakeem Dickson, explained that Vision Zero was aimed at promoting leadership, ownership and partnership with all stakeholders in the state.\n\n“It is in view of this that, the state government through the commission deemed it urgent to declare Zero Tolerance for workplace incidents through various strategies one of which informed the theme of the conference,” he stated.\n\nTo realise this goal the commission has set up committees to work rules which include: Leadership commitment; identify hazards and create mitigating measures; set health and safety goals; ensure a safety and health system; use safe and healthy technologies; improve qualification, competence and invest in people.\n\nIn her paper titled: Psychological Risk: Mental Health And Wellbeing At Work, Maymunah Kadiri, stated that researchers were of the opinion that poor control of psychological stress could reduce employee productivity by 40 to 60 per cent compared to absence of stress or was it was better managed.\n\nShe explained that a recent study by the World Health Organisation (WHO) found that over 300 million people around the world suffer depression, while another 260 million suffer from anxiety.\n\n“Most of them live with both conditions and such disorders cost the global economy $1 trillion in productivity yearly,” she added.\n\nPresident of the National Industrial Safety Council of Nigeria (NISCN), Akhigbe Cletus said: “If you want all to align with safety at the workplace, then vision Zero is the way to go.",

One will either live by faith or by sight governed by the dictates of sensual judgements. You either possess a faith mentality or rely on sensual capacity. Either choice will definitely impact positively or negatively on your destiny.\n\nKing Saul took it upon himself to offer a sacrifice, which he was not permitted to do, because he saw the people scatter from him when Prophet Samuel’s arrival delayed. The natural youthful self confidence of Jonathan made him to provoke the Philippines to war when his father was not actually ready for war v2-3. This caused permanent damage for Saul. A lesson for youths. \n2. *When God appears late*\nThe apparent delay of the prophet was not accidental v8-10. It was a test before permanency of dynasty of Saul v14. God is never late,  delay may be a test after all. \n3. It was a truly difficult situation for Saul to act v5-7.  Test could only be test if it put you in a very tight situation. Saul did what only priests should do.  He failed. \n4. The replacement for Saul was David v14. *David was not yet born at this time God chose him* (Proof?) \n*a* Saul's destiny or predestination was to be king and his house rule for ever v14.\n*b* God's *foreknowledge* knew that Saul will fail even though it was entirely Saul's decision and failure without God influencing things, at least to the disadvantage of Saul. \n3. Saul was solely responsible for his fall because God gave him all the help he needed to succeed. \n4. God in His *foreknowledge* predestined David to take over before he was born. \n5. There is no child of accident.  God created every person to fill up a vacancy in life. David's creation would have been unnecessary without the vacancy created by Saul. \n6.       "body": "The Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday said it would sue the National Working Committee (NWC) for overruling its state congress.\n\nThe Assistant Publicity Secretary of the party,Mr Abiodun Salami issued the threat in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.\n\nHe was reacting the overruling of the main congress of APC at ACME on May 19 by the NWC over issues of legality.\n\nAnother congress was convened the same day by a chieftain, Mr Fouad Oki on the grounds that the ACME congress lacked legal basis as it was conducted based on wards in 57 council areas instead of 20 approved by INEC.\n\nThe National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mallam Bolaji Abdullah had said that the party had begun work on Friday on the reports from the various appeal panels on the conduct state congresses.\n\nHe said a meeting to resolve the issues had been held and that the Lagos APC faction loyal to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu which conducted its wards and local government congresses in 57 local council development areas had been overruled by the national leadership.\n\nHe said the state structure was however not handed over to Oki who he said conducted his congress in accordance with the party laws.\n\nHe added that a five-man panel had been set up to dissect the constitutionality of the two congresses and that the panel, headed by the party’s Deputy National Chairman, would begin sitting on Sunday.\n\n“Yes,we set up a panel to look at the issues in the Lagos chapter.       "body": "The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has invited Senate President Bukola Saraki to answer allegations surrounding his alleged link with persons behind the deadly robbery of some banks in Offa in April.Five principal suspects among 15 others, who were paraded at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, in connection with the incident, had indicted the Senate President in their statements.\n\n\n\nSaraki, however, denied the allegation. In a statement by his spokesman, Yusuf Olaniyonu, he said: “Members of the public will remember that on May 16, 2018, I alerted the Senate about the information passed on to me by my state governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, over a plot by the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, to frame me up by getting some suspected cultists arrested in Ilorin to implicate me. It is believed that the timely leakage of the plot in that case aborted the use of the suspected cultists to implicate me. Now, it is the Offa bank robbery suspects that are about to be used.\n\n“This plot is concocted to embarrass me. And in the mind of the IGP, it is his own response to the action taken by the Senate against him after his refusal to honour the invitation by the National Assembly, headed by me, for him to come and offer explanations on the rampant killings and violence across the country.“As a person who has utmost respect for the rule of law and all constitutional institutions, when the invitation from the police is formally extended to me, I will be ready to honour it without any delay.”\n\nA statement by Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, yesterday, said: “Senate President Bukola Saraki has been invited to report to the police to answer allegations indicting him from confessions of five gang leaders arrested for active participation in Offa bank robbery and killing of 33 innocent persons. \n\n“The Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, is being invited by the Nigeria Police Force to report to the Force Intelligence Response Team office at Guzape, Abuja, to answer to the allegations levelled against him from the confessions of the five robbery gang leaders.” He said the gang leaders and some of the principal suspects arrested for their role in the robbery and the killing of innocent persons had made confessional statements admitting to the various criminal roles they and their sponsors played in this crime.\n\n“During interrogation, the five gang leaders in paragraph 2 further confessed and volunteered statements that they carried out the bank robberies, the attack on the Divisional Police Headquarters in Offa and the killing of 33 innocent persons during the robbery of the banks.“The five gang leaders further confessed during investigation that they are political thugs under the name Youth Liberation Movement (a.k.a. “Good Boys”) and also admitted and confessed to have been sponsored with firearms, money and operational vehicles by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed.”\n\n“In the course of discreet investigation into the confessions of these five gang leaders and the other 17 principal suspects, a Lexus Jeep GX-300 (Ash Colour) with a sticker plate number with inscription  “SARAKI” “Kwara, State of Harmony” used by the gang leader (Ayoade Akinnibosun ‘M’ 37 years) during the bank robbery and the killing of 33 innocent persons was taken to Government House, Ilorin on May 16, 2018 where the sticker plate number with inscription “SARAKI” “Kwara, State of Harmony” was removed before another plate number (Reg. No. Kwara, KMA 143 RM) registered in the name of Ayoade Akinnibosun, the overall commander of the Offa bank robbery, was then attached to the vehicle to cover up the identity of the said vehicle.\n\n“The exhibit vehicle was subsequently recovered from the premises of the Ministry of Environmental and Forestry in Ilorin, Kwara State while the sticker plate number with inscription “SARAKI” “Kwara, State of Harmony” removed from the vehicle was recovered from one Adeola Omiyale who drove the said Lexus Jeep to Government House, Ilorin immediately after the bank robbery.\n\n“The Personal Assistant (Political) to the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mr. Alabi Olalekan, who is privy to information that the police were looking for the Lexus Jeep as an exhibit used in the Offa bank robbery and the killing of 33 innocent persons directed one Adeola Omiyale to relocate the Lexus Jeep to Government House, Ilorin. The PA (Political) is currently in police custody and has made useful statement assisting the police in further investigation into the case. A revolver pistol and pump action gun were recovered by the police investigation team from the Personal Assistant (Political) to the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mr. Alabi Olalekan’s farm where he directed his brother to hide them after his arrest by the police. \n\n“In order to conceal evidence, the Chief of Staff to the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mr. Yusuf Abdulwahab, who had been arrested and taken into police custody, arranged the removal of the sticker plate number with inscription “SARAKI” “Kwara, State of Harmony” from the exhibit vehicle and also registered the exhibit Lexus Jeep used in the Offa bank robbery and the killing of 33 innocent persons in the name of Ayoade Akinnibosun, the overall gang commander of the Offa bank robbery while he (Ayoade Akinnibosun) was already in police custody for more than six days before the registration of the vehicle,” the statement added.\n\nMeanwhile, Saraki might have resolved to seek a legal battle against the police over his indictment on the Offa robbery saga.He was said to have commenced search for adequate legal counsel before taking any action on the matter.This is part of the several options he is said to be considering following declaration by the police that he had been mentioned by the suspects in connection with the robbery that took place in Offa.\n\nAside from his indictment by the police on the matter, the Senate President also had some men of the Department of State Services (DSS) attached to his office withdrawn.Although no official statement has emanated from the Senate President on the two incidents, unofficial sources in the National Assembly confirmed the withdrawal of the security men.\n\nThe Special Adviser to the Senate President on Media Affairs, Yusuf Olaniyonu, who had hinted that a press statement should be expected from the Senate President’s office, could not be unreached when calls were made to him.\n\nIn another development, a pro-democracy and non-governmental organisation, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), has said that the persecution of Saraki and other party stalkers by the Executive arm may hinder democracy in the country.\n\nHURIWA, in a statement issued by its National Co-ordinator, Mr. Emmanuel Onwubiko in Abuja, yesterday, against the backdrop of the press statement from the police indicting the Senate President as a potential suspect, said: “We in the organised civil rights community are hereby asking Nigerians not to sit back idly and laugh over the sinister scenarios that are being weaved dangerously together with the absolutely and ruthlessly anarchic hierarchy of the Nigeria Police Force under the current dictatorship.\n\n“Nigerians from all over the world must speak out before the democracy that we fought so hard to bring about is allowed to collapse into fascism before our faces.       "body": "By Chidiebube Okeoma, Owerri\n\nOperatives of the Imo State Police Command have taken over the secretariat of the All Progressives Congress located at Imo State University Junction in Owerri.\n\nThe development came on the heels of APC’s nationwide ward congresses held on May 5, which were marred by crisis in the state.\n\nThe national leadership of the party had announced the postponement of the Imo State Local Government congresses which took place across other parts of the country last weekend.\n\nThis is even as unidentified hoodlums last Friday allegedly set the party secretariat on fire amidst a downpour.\n\nThe fire, which mostly affected the inner parts of the secretariat, was said to have destroyed vital party documents and equipment.\n\nThe APC state chairman, Hillary Eke, had told The PUNCH that he had petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, over the fire at the secretariat on May 5.\n\nHe had said that members of staff of the secretariat “identified those who launched an attack on the secretariat while the ward congress was going on across the 305 electoral wards in the state.”\n\nWhen our correspondent visited the secretariat on Monday, armed policemen were seen manning the entrance, with their Hilux van packed by the side.\n\nNobody was allowed entry into the secretariat, even as the building was locked up.\n\nAlso, no secretariat workers or party official was seen around.\n\nWhen contacted, the Police spokesperson, Andrew Enwerem, said that the Police took over the secretariat following the fire outbreak on Friday.\n\nAccording to Enwerem, the Command leadership had ordered a “thorough” investigation into the circumstances that led to the inferno at the secretariat.\n\nHe said that in order not to compromise the process of investigation, the Police had to “temporarily” take over the secretariat\n\nEnwerem said, “We have temporarily taken over the secretariat following the fire outbreak.\n\n“The Police are investigating and in order not to jeopardise the investigation process, we have to take the secretariat over in the meantime.\n\n“This is to avoid any other attack on the secretariat and to make sure that peace is restored.”\nSource: Punch news\nhttp://www.punchng.com/breaking-police-take-over-imo-apc-secretariat/",
