I wish I had a better before photo of the side without the trim. Here's a shot with the trim before I removed it and revealed the huge gap. I did this by mixing equal parts of water and stain proof latex paint:  Behr true white. I used a stain sponge to cover larger parts of brick and then used a medium sized paint brush to get between the bricks. I removed the glass doors and taped everything off. Then I used Rustoleum Grill/Heat Proof matte black spray paint. YEP. SPRAY PAINT. This stuff is supposed to support up to 1200 degree F temps. I was more scared of ruining the white-wash paint job I had done to the rest of the fireplace. Life, man. That's how it works, right?\n\nProject no. 1 was our mailbox. The one in front of our house was old and sad.\nThe previous owner was rude enough to leave the house full of junk, but awesome enough to also leave a bag of unmixed concrete.\n\nI pulled out the old mailbox, dug  a narrow deep hole, mixed the concrete in a 5 gallon bucket using an old fire poker, and got to work. I used an outdoor waterproof stain for the post. At first, I spray painted the mailbox and that looked AWFUL so I went & bought a new mailbox at our local home depot & installed that sucker. Then I adhered our mailbox numbers on each side of the post. (Those dudes are expensive omg).
