They have been playing this morbid game with Iran for a long time. The Saudis head the global Sunni bloc of Islam while the Iranians head the Shia bloc, and this turf war is for supremacy in the Middle East.\n\nLebanon is the most ethnically diverse country in the Middle East. 54% of it's population is Muslim and 40% Christian while Druze, Jews, and Baha'i make up the rest. Half of the Muslim population is Sunni and the other half is Shia.\nThe Shia pull more weight in the general scheme of things.\n\nProxy wars between Saudi Arabia and Iran continue throughout the region and this is what the conflict in Yemen is all about. This battle for supremacy has virtually destroyed the entire country of Yemen and turned it into a failed state. But it doesn't seem like it will stop there.\nLebanon seems to be next in line.\n\n Iran's major allies are the Alawite (branch of Shia) controlled Syria and Shia Hezbollah.\nWhat cost the one time Prime Minister, Rafik Hariri's dad (Saad Hariri) his life was the way Hezbollah was handled, and now it might cost the son his as well.\n\nHezbollah is no longer a non-state actor, it lost that tag the moment it entered mainstream politics in Lebanon  and developed a political wing that morphed into a party. By accusing Lebanon of an act of war Saudi Arabia is putting pressure on the citizens of Lebanon to reject the Shia control and is indirectly fanning the flames of sectarianism.\n\nThe Saudi strategy seems to be to get all Iranian allies in the region to implode one by one.\nThis dangerous game might just end up causing intense collateral damage and something that will engulf the whole region in more ways than one.\n\nInteresting times we live in.",

We fought the Apartheid system in South Africa and helped build credibility for the ANC. \nWe owned ECOMOG and handled the Liberian issue and almost every other conflict in Sub-Saharan Africa with aplomb.\n\nBut now.....the people who should be managing our perception to boost our reputation seem to only be interested in doing the opposite.\nFrom \"trivialities\" like the country's number one image maker going on international news media to proclaim another country has the best jollof rice to sending out messages that the President's office was infested by rats.\n\nAnd then to the bigger issues.\n\nSeveral Nigerian teenagers drowned on their way to Italy while escaping penury and abject conditions and it was broadcast globally.\nYet it was the Nigerian government that did not send a delegation to the public burial of those girls.\n\nNow, Libyan militias are selling several African nationals including Nigerians as slaves.\n\nChad, yes C-H-A-D, has made an official pronouncement on the issue of its citizens and has since deployed military forces to fight these militia that are selling its citizens into slavery.\n\nMeanwhile, we have done nothing. \n\nAnd we still do nothing. \n\n-Ugonna Emechebe",
