Off-white is an excellent example of how influencer marketing can turn out extremely successful when done right.\n\nVirgil Abloh, founder and designer of off-white marketed the brand in a way in which owners of their pieces don’t represent Off-white but rather they represent the brand ambassadors that have been seen wearing off-white whether that is Virgil Abloh himself, Kanye West or Skepta.\n\nBy dressing these influencers in his clothing and allowing them to repost their outfits on social media he created a strong connection to the followers of these celebrities. Today Off-white has 3.2 million followers on Instagram and Virgil has become one of the most influential people in fashion, if not the most influential, now being announced as head of menswear for Louis Vuitton. Virgil Abloh has been a genius of sorts when it comes to influencer marketing and off-white is not the first project he has done this with. In 2009, before Instagram was even being used, he created a brand known as Pyrex Vision that shared a very similar style to Off-white and created a die-hard following bases olely though Tumblr. Large Tumblr pages would repost his clothing and bloggers would wear and review them. The brand quickly gained a lot of hype and before leaving the brand to create Off-white Virgil had received a very large following on Tumblr.\n\nUsing social media influencers in your marketing is allowing brands to build solid relationships with their targeted consumer group. Influencer marketing through social media is a fairly new phenomenon but it's definitely here to stay and Starflow is going to be here to ease the way for the brands, consumers and the influencers to interact.",

      "body": "![Artboard_2_Copy.png](https://steemitimages.com/DQmR8yDLjXXqauDRhGmhtdgstMVK44w2nfGujMSBKvZ2ei7/Artboard_2_Copy.png)\n\n**Lightning Network**\n\nAs most of you know by now, The Lightning Network was recently added on top of the Bitcoin blockchain, but what exactly is The Lightning Network and how does it work?\n\nBasically it’s a “second layer” payment protocol which is seen as the most convenient solution to Bitcoins scaling issues. It enables both faster and cheaper transactions which wouldn’t be possible on the current blockchain. The Lightning Network sits on top of the blockchain\nand is comprised of user-generated channels which securely send payments back and forth. \n\nSo how does it work? Well, to keep it simple, two parties who wish to send and receive transactions set up a multisignature wallet which holds some Bitcoin. The wallet address is then saved to the Bitcoin blockchain allowing for the payment channel to be set up. Through this channel, the two parties can begin making an unlimited amount of transactions without ever involving the information stored on the blockchain. With each transaction, both the sender and the receiver of the transaction have to update the balance sheet. This is done in order to always make sure how much bitcoin in the wallet belongs to each party. Once the two parties are done creating transactions with each other, they close the channel and the net balance is registered on the blockchain.\n\nThe first beta was released on the 15th of March and we are now starting to see more and more usage of this payment protocol. It’s still being worked on and the team itself has gone out and told users that it’s mainly made for developers and that users only should experiment with smaller amounts of Bitcoin. \n\nWhether The Lightning Network becomes a long-lasting solution to Bitcoins scaling issues can only be told by time however it’s one step closer towards adoption.\n\n\n*Legal disclaimer: This is only my personal opinion, make of it what you wish.       "body": "![PROOF_OF.png](https://steemitimages.com/DQmda2zkCsXLDAS1MAKGQkA9hshPEh4Gtofv6ksW6DMj4H4/PROOF_OF.png)\n\n**Proof of Work vs Proof of Stake**\n\nIn one my last article I quickly covered one of the problems with Proof of Work (PoW) that Proof of Stake (PoS) can handle better but what exactly does PoW and PoS mean and what are the differences between them?\n\nSimply put, they are both algorithms for reaching consensus on the blockchain. This can get quite complicated but basically anyone can create a block and this is why we need consensus since we only want one chain. Hence, we want a way to decide which blocks we can trust. This is the job of both PoW and PoS. A lot of cryptocurrencies are switching to PoS as Ethereum recently did and so far the community seems to favor this algorithm. \n\nPoW is the original consensus system of Bitcoin and validates blocks by requiring work from the service requester, usually meaning processing time by a computer (mining). The miners are then rewarded for this computer work by receiving new Bitcoin which is how the total supply of Bitcoin increases. Bitcoins total supply is 21 million and this amount is expected to be reached by 2140 and once this amount has been mined, miners will be compensated solely by transaction fees (Which they are today already compensated more for than the new BTC).\n\nPoW is however very inefficient in certain areas, one of which I covered in my previous article, energy usage. This energy usage is not only bad for the environment but also works as a disincentive for miners since costs of running mining platforms is high. This has led to to a situation where most of the mining operations happen in China (because of their low energy cost) and that kind of ruins the decentralized nature on which Bitcoin was built on. \nBecause of these energy costs and their negative externalities on the environment, PoW struggles with scalability and some of these scalability problems can be addressed more easily with PoS.\n\nPoS is an algorithm by which a blockchain network achieves distributed consensus by validating, choosing the creator of the next block based on stake (wealth or age), rather than through mining. All validators have to own a stake, Ether in the case of Ethereum.\n\nHowever, validating blocks rather than mining them has some negative outcomes. The largest concern with PoW is that some people see it as a way of leading mining to become centralized and further on making the rich richer. This is because the energy required to run two set-ups which have very different amounts of stake is the same whilst the larger stake owner has a greater chance of receiving the mining reward. Hence after a certain point, the cost of being part of the mining operation would be too high relative to the payout for small stakeholders which would lead to them eventually opting out, taking their wallets offline.\n\nBoth are systems being used by many different cryptocurrencies and as the scene evolves we will see new consensus algorithms being formed. There are already a lot of cryptocurrencies experimenting with different systems such as ICON (ICN) with their DPoS (Delegated Proof of Stake) or POA Network with uses PoA (Proof of Authority). There are several factors as to why bitcoin is yet to be seen as the superior currency by everyone.\n\n\n**1. Volatility**\nLooking at the current state of bitcoin, it’s way too volatile to be used in a day-to-day basis. In just the last couple of months it has decreased 60%. And since the whole market is pegged to the effects of Bitcoin, the whole sphere is seen as a risky investment by a lot of people. As of writing this article, the whole market has increased by 30% in the last 24 hours. \n\n**2. Black market, difficulty to comprehend**\nUnfortunately Bitcoin has lead to a boom in the blackmarket which has resulted a lot of negative opinions regarding the cryptocurrency and its environment. There are certain issues with making a currency that is hard to track and this has resulted in the decrease in barriers of entry to the online market of drugs and other illegal products. Since Bitcoin is not completely anonymous, certain black markets have now moved onto other cryptocurrencies such as Zcash and Monero (Two well known privacy coins). \n\n**3. Environmental effects**\nAs crazy as it sounds, one of Bitcoins biggest faults is its energy usage. Mining is the process that is essential in the current Bitcoin protocol using Proof of Work (POW) in which transactions are verified in exchange for new bitcoins and this has serious environmental effects. According to Digiconomist, keeping Bitcoin running requires 32 terawatts of energy a year which is enough to power 3 million American homes.They also deducted that at the current state of Bitcoin during the study (In early December 2016), just one transaction could use as much energy as an entire American household would in a week which is worrying since there were around 300,000 transactions every day. If Bitcoin was to be used even more, the negative effects of mining would increase. To conclude, these mining issues could result in a catastrophical increase in output towards global warming. On the positive side, there are other cryptocurrencies working on different solutions to target this issue and one way is to switch to a different system of completing transactions such as “Proof of Stake” (Will be posting an article on this soon).\n\n**4. Security**\nSince Bitcoin is something stored on computers/web-based wallets, etc. There is a risk of hacking/stealing of one's coins if precautions are not taking seriously. Some people will always take the easier way and in Bitcoin this means storing their currency on an unsafe location or getting scammed. We have all read the countless stories of people whom have lost their wallets or their passwords and hence lost thousands or even millions of dollars worth of bitcoin. Companies and wallet developers are building new and safe ways to target these issues however since Bitcoin is not physical it does make it easier for people to lose their money. I strongly recommend you read my earlier article on wallets to counter most of these risks.\n\n**5. Difficulty to comprehend**\nSimply stated, understanding and using Bitcoin, at the current state in which it resides, is simply too difficult for most people to comprehend at first sight. It’s a lot simpler to send $10 over paypal to an email address than sending 0.001206BTC to an encrypted address like 0x6A8Aed6f81aA5e210B276B80F1295b48b848CBaa.
