| body | *This magical adventure reaches its climax on Day 4 at Thailand's famous festival of lights.* Greetings fellow Steemians! My name is Brian Canon and I'll be your guide. I started [Steem Dream](http://www.steemdream.com) because travel is my life, even when my life doesn't allow me to travel. And now because of Steemit, it is possible to work for the community and help each other achieve the freedom and security we need to realize our dreams. **I hope you'll join me on an enchanted escape through this gem of Southeast Asia!** *** ## Day 1 in Bangkok: Thursday, November 10, 2016 ### Hotel Options: **a. Metropolitan by COMO (from $149/night)** This centrally located hotel is a top see-and-be-seen spot in the city. Rooms favor a clean and modern vibe instead of excessive oriental accents. Hotel amenities include a yoga studio, and packages with dinner for two at the hotel’s—and Thailand’s—star restaurant, Nahm, are available. The central location on South Sathorn Road in the city's main business district, quieter than one might expect, yet equally convenient for daytime shopping and nighttime clubbing. The noise and chaos of Bangkok stand in sharp relief to the peace and quiet within the Metropolitan's walls — an impressive feat indeed. [Learn more about Metropolitan](http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g293916-d301643-Reviews-Metropolitan_by_COMO_Bangkok-Bangkok.html) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8giHiwtgd0 **b. The Sukhothai Bangkok (from $170/night)** Set on six acres of meticulously manicured grounds in the heart of the city, the Sukhothai Bangkok shuts out the mayhem, street noise and daunting traffic of Bangkok. Rooms here are spacious—outfitted in earth tones and finished with teak floors—and the hotel’s impressive “pillow menu” ensures a good night’s sleep. The Celadon restaurant serves fine Thai cuisine, and is a top contender for Bangkok’s best restaurant. Italian and international options are available as well at the hotel’s La Scala and Colonnade restaurants, while after hours the focus shifts to the intimate Zuk Bar, an outdoor lounge and cocktail bar that takes on more of a club atmosphere later in the night. [Learn more about Sukhothai](http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g293916-d302770-Reviews-The_Sukhothai_Bangkok-Bangkok.html) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aydb-uTGeNQ *** ### Getting Around in Bangkok The Skytrain (BTS) and underground (MRT) rail systems connect the main shopping, entertainment and business areas of the city, while river taxis and express boats can be used to explore many historic sites and attractions at the riverside. Taxis are cheap and appear on virtually every corner at almost any time. Tuk-tuks, once a big Bangkok attraction, are slowly disappearing in favour of more comfortable transport, but are still worth a ride at least once. If you're riding a tuk-tuk, remember to negotiate a fare with your driver in advance. ***Start your stay in Bangkok by walking around the city and exploring a few of the local markets.*** ### Lunch at Baan Somtum Restaurant If you're hungry when you get in, Baan Somtum is a restaurant in the area around your hotel that serves quality Isaan Thai food. Try the spicy chicken wings, grilled fish, and som tam (papaya salad, of which the restaurant serves 22 different varieties). This place is popular with local Thais and backpackers alike so expect about a 15 minute wait if you're going here during lunch or dinner. [Learn more about Baan Somtum](http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g293916-d3704071-Reviews-Baan_Somtum-Bangkok.html) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iG0tjVYaPo Baan Somtum 9/1 Soi Sriviang, Pramuan Road *Open daily, 11am - 12am* *** ### Visit Khlong Lat Floating Market Located on the outskirts of Bangkok in a lush area of town is the relaxing Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market. Every weekend, vendors dock their boats under the shade and serve delicious Thai food. You can choose to have a seat next to the boat restaurants and choose a few items to eat, or you can browse around the dry section of the market which is filled with little trinkets and an endless supply of more food. If you’re interested, you can even hire a boat to slowly drift down the calm canal as you sit back and enjoy the scenery. Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market (ตลาดน้ำคลองลัดมะยม) is more low-key than Damnoen Saduak or Amphawa (more famous floating markets), but it is very close to Bangkok and I personally prefer it over any other floating markets due to its quiet nature-oriented atmosphere. [Learn more about Khlong Lat](http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g293916-d4322658-Reviews-Khlong_Lat_Mayom_Floating_Market-Bangkok.html) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DHauw0s-To Khlong Lat Floating Market 30/15 Moo 11 Talatnam Khlong Lat Mayom, Bang Ramat Road | Khwaeng Bang Ramat, Khet Taling Chan *Take the BTS Skytrain to Wang Wian Yai station. From there it’s easiest to jump in a taxi, ask the driver to take you to “Talad Nam Khlong Lat Mayom.” Should cost right around 100 THB for the ride.* *Opens at 9:30am on Saturdays and Sundays.* *** ### Dinner at Yaowarat (Chinatown) One of the must-dos in Bangkok is to head to Yaowarat (Bangkok’s Chinatown) for some outstanding nighttime street food in a bustling atmosphere. Yaowarat has many restaurant dining options and an great selection of Bangkok street food hawkers. Whether you’re hungry for rice noodle rolls swimming in intensely porky broth (kuay jab), or a variety of Thai Chinese style dishes, Yaowarat won’t let you down. Please remember, human traffic jams are an inevitable part of visiting Bangkok Chinatown :-) [Learn more about Yaowarat](https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g293916-d447272-r125009805-Chinatown_Bangkok-Bangkok.html) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1upp9S-MQ8 Yaowarat (Bangkok Chinatown) Yaowarat, Bangkok 10200 *Take the BTS to Silom station, transfer to the MRT and get off at Hua Lamphong, now you can either walk or take a tuk tuk to Yaowarat Road. If you’re looking for more Bangkok nightlife, you may want to take the BTS to Silom station for some more street shopping and a chance to stop into a bar for a few drinks.* *** ### Drink at Vertigo Grill & Moon Bar The Moon Bar located on the roof terrace on the 61st floor of the Banyan tree hotel is a great place to take in the glittering cityscape of Bangkok. There's a telescope for star gazing and live jazz is laid on most evenings too. There can be few more romantic gestures than whisking your date up here for a glass of top notch bubbly high above the bustling streets of Bangkok just check that they're OK with heights first. Note: The price tags are somewhat hefty for Bangkok, and there's a dress code to keep the riff raff out - so no shorts, sleeveless tops or flip flops. You may also want to check out the nearby Sky Bar at the Lebua Hotel, but this is a more touristy option than the Moon Bar. [Learn more about Moon Bar](http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g293916-d2233580-Reviews-Moon_Bar_Bangkok-Bangkok.html) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jb6nPsfgggo Vertigo Grill & Moon Bar at Banyan Tree Hotel 21/100 Banyan Tree Hotel, South Sathon Road, Sathon เขต สาทร กรุงเทพมหานคร *Open daily 5am - 1am* *** ### Stay tuned for days 2 - 8 continuing tomorrow! |

| body | *This magical adventure reaches its climax on Day 4 at Thailand's famous festival of lights.* Greetings fellow Steemians! Metropolitan by COMO (from $149/night)**\n\n\n\nThis centrally located hotel is a top see-and-be-seen spot in the city. Rooms favor a clean and modern vibe instead of excessive oriental accents. Hotel amenities include a yoga studio, and packages with dinner for two at the hotel’s—and Thailand’s—star restaurant, Nahm, are available.\n\nThe central location on South Sathorn Road in the city's main business district, quieter than one might expect, yet equally convenient for daytime shopping and nighttime clubbing. The Sukhothai Bangkok (from $170/night)**\n\n\n\nSet on six acres of meticulously manicured grounds in the heart of the city, the Sukhothai Bangkok shuts out the mayhem, street noise and daunting traffic of Bangkok.\n\nRooms here are spacious—outfitted in earth tones and finished with teak floors—and the hotel’s impressive “pillow menu” ensures a good night’s sleep.\n\nThe Celadon restaurant serves fine Thai cuisine, and is a top contender for Bangkok’s best restaurant. Italian and international options are available as well at the hotel’s La Scala and Colonnade restaurants, while after hours the focus shifts to the intimate Zuk Bar, an outdoor lounge and cocktail bar that takes on more of a club atmosphere later in the night.\n\n[Learn more about Sukhothai](http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g293916-d302770-Reviews-The_Sukhothai_Bangkok-Bangkok.html)\n\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aydb-uTGeNQ\n***\n### Getting Around in Bangkok\n\nThe Skytrain (BTS) and underground (MRT) rail systems connect the main shopping, entertainment and business areas of the city, while river taxis and express boats can be used to explore many historic sites and attractions at the riverside. Taxis are cheap and appear on virtually every corner at almost any time. Tuk-tuks, once a big Bangkok attraction, are slowly disappearing in favour of more comfortable transport, but are still worth a ride at least once. | body | *This magical adventure reaches its climax on Day 4 at Thailand's famous festival of lights.* Greetings fellow Steemians! You may also want to check out the nearby Sky Bar at the Lebua Hotel, but this is a more touristy option than the Moon Bar. | body | **This magical adventure reaches its climax on Day 4 at Thailand's famous festival of lights.** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glbveoD18kc Greetings fellow Steemians! And now because of Steemit, it is possible to work for the community and help each other achieve the freedom and security we need to realize our dreams.\n\n**I hope you'll join me on an enchanted escape through this gem of Southeast Asia!**\n***\n## Day 1 in Bangkok: Thursday, November 10, 2016\n\n### Hotel Options:\n**a. The noise and chaos of Bangkok stand in sharp relief to the peace and quiet within the Metropolitan's walls — an impressive feat indeed. \n\n[Learn more about Metropolitan](http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g293916-d301643-Reviews-Metropolitan_by_COMO_Bangkok-Bangkok.html)\n\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8giHiwtgd0\n\n**b. If you're riding a tuk-tuk, remember to negotiate a fare with your driver in advance.\n\n***Start your stay in Bangkok by walking around the city and exploring a few of the local markets.***\n\n### Lunch at Baan Somtum Restaurant\n\n\n\nIf you're hungry when you get in, Baan Somtum is a restaurant in the area around your hotel that serves quality Isaan Thai food. \n\nTry the spicy chicken wings, grilled fish, and som tam (papaya salad, of which the restaurant serves 22 different varieties).\n\nThis place is popular with local Thais and backpackers alike so expect about a 15 minute wait if you're going here during lunch or dinner.\n\n[Learn more about Baan Somtum](http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g293916-d3704071-Reviews-Baan_Somtum-Bangkok.html)\n\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iG0tjVYaPo\nBaan Somtum\n9/1 Soi Sriviang, Pramuan Road\n*Open daily, 11am - 12am*\n***\n### Visit Khlong Lat Floating Market\n\n\n\nLocated on the outskirts of Bangkok in a lush area of town is the relaxing Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market.
