Use an exchange, not a broker. You’ll save money on fees. For example, buy and sell with GDAX and not Coinbase.\n\n2. When you buy/sell via an exchange, try to use limit orders (try not to use market orders). On some exchanges, like GDAX, limit orders have lower fees than market orders. On GDAX, limit orders are free as long as they don’t fill immediately. Meanwhile, market orders result in a .3% fee, which is better than the 1.4% that Coinbase charges but not as good as 0%, especially if you are day trading. If your exchange rewards you for using certain order types, aim to use them.\n\n3. Figure out if you want to go long or short. Are you going short with every penny you have to invest, or are you going to go long with some and short with some? Long-term investors will pay a lower tax rate if they can hold for over 12 months, but as a trade-off, they WILL have to sit through corrections (likely seeing their balance go down 50% plus on paper as often as they see it go up). Short-term investors can avoid corrections if they are nimble, but they’ll owe taxes on the profits from each trade they do along the way (see: how taxes work with cryptocurrency to understand how the long term and short term capital gains tax work with cryptocurrency).\n\n4. If you are going long, consider building an average position (for example via dollar cost averaging or value averaging). There is no better way to avoid making a poorly timed trade than buying incrementally instead of all at once and thereby buying an asset at its “average” price over time. If you don’t have a really solid grasp of technical indicators and the way the volatile crypto markets work, consider averaging out of positions as well. Averaging isn’t just financially conservative, it is important psychologically. Taking too big of a position at once can be emotionally difficult to deal with (and can thus lead to bad decision making) given the historic volatility of the cryptocurrency market.\n\n5. Consider laddering your buys and sells. In others words, instead of buying or selling everything in one chunk, set incremental buy and sell orders to buy when the price goes down and sell when the price goes up.\n\n6. If you take only one thing away, take away the advice to average and ladder into and out of positions. These two related techniques will help you to avoid mistiming the complex and volatile cryptocurrency market. Learn about dollar cost averaging and laddering.\n\n7. Remember Cryptocurrency is a 24/7 Global Market. In other words, the market never sleeps. Since you do, consider automating your investing strategy using limit orders, stops, or even using APIs (via “trading bots“).\n\n8. Dad advice: Aim to buy low, sell high; try not to buy high or sell low. Look at the price trend, if we are at the highest point it has been in the past 24 hours (days, weeks, etc), that is inherently riskier than buying at a short term low. It can make sense to buy as the price starts to break out, but buying after a breakout at a new high while filled with excitement is a little “irrationally exuberant.” This is to say aim to “buy the dips” and often “the best time to buy is when there’s blood in the streets… even if it is your own.” Conversely, the worst time to buy is often (but not always) right after the price has shot up and everyone is manic. If you do buy high, and it ends up dropping shortly after, consider HODLing (to “HODL” is to Hold On for Dear Life as the price goes down. It is what you do when you buy high and then neglect to set a stop or if you are going long and can’t or don’t want to cash out yet). Buying the dips and holding can be dangerous in a bear market, and it can put pressure on you to sell low if you overextend, but its still often better than FOMO buying the top. Sometimes it can be wise to sell for a loss or to buy when the price is at a local high, but knowing when this is the case requires a rather high skill level. Thus, although rules sometimes are best broken, start by aiming to buy low and sell high.Two last points 1. Knowing when to take a loss is hard, buying the dips and holding is easy. 2. The dips WILL happen, you must be patient and ward off FOMO!\n\n9. You cannot “buy the dips” if you have all your money to invest already invested. LET US STRESS THIS POINT! The point should be obvious, but it bears repeating over and over. It is tempting to go all-in, but that limits your options. Consider always having some funds to the side to buy an unforeseen downturn. Even if you want to “go all-in” on crypto… leave yourself at least a little money to the side just in case. If you are all-in and the price takes a hard downturn, it takes lots of options off the table. It is hard not to go all-in when a coin goes down 60% – 80% over the course of weeks or months, but sometimes they go down even more than that, and it is wise to always prepare for the worst case.\n\n10. Bitcoin (BTC) is King/Queen; Don’t Get Overly Optimistic About Altcoins. Those who invest in BTC tend to get itchy fingers when BTC stagnates and alts go up. Sure, going into IOTA or ZCash can be a brilliant move at times… at other times you’ll be holding the bag while everyone moves back into BTC. Stick with coins you know and like, but consider always being partly in BTC (not 24/7, but in general). This advise applies somewhat to Ethereum as well, but first and foremost BTC is the center of the crypto economy.",

Clear up the tax situation\nBlockchains don’t work without a token, and tokens need to be traded in and out of fiat (government backed currencies like the US dollar). This means there will always be a chance to profit (in fiat terms), so HMRC needs to clarify its stance.\n\nIn the US, the 2018 tax law clarified when you should pay capital gains on crypto. One big change: crypto-to-crypto transactions are now taxable events.\n\nDoes that apply in the UK as well? CryptoTax.uk, a UK specific guide, thinks “you may be subject to tax” on these types of trades; but at the moment it’s not entirely clear. To be even more forward thinking, with Masternodes in Dash and the introduction of Proof-of-Stake, what happens when you earn a crypto-dividend? Is that taxable?\n\nA line in the sand would be nice. Also, did someone say Crypto ISA?\n\n2. Regulate exchanges\nAlmost all foreign exchange flows through banks or currency houses: what you do with it afterwards is your choice. It should be no different in the crypto-verse.\n\nUnless you are a professional trader – the sort of person who’d self-declare as option four on a list like this – all your transactions should run through an exchange that is regulated.\n\nOnce the flow of fiat to crypto and vice-versa is predominantly through exchanges, it will be easier to combat illicit behaviour and ensure tax is paid. However, for that the happen we first need banks to open accounts for exchanges.\n\nAt the moment British banks are turning away cryptocurrency exchanges, and even closing customers’ accounts for wiring to an exchange, so even if they’d prefer to be based in the UK, exchanges have to open accounts in mainland European countries such as Slovenia (Bitstamp) or Estonia (Coinbase).\n\nFrom the banks point of view, this is understandable. Without tight regulation, they fear the funds could be used by criminals on the dark web or for money laundering. If they are part of that process, they could get fined or shut down. It simply isn’t worth it.\n\nThat’s why the solution is to regulate the exchanges. If that happens, then the big banks will open their doors, making life easier for exchanges and investors alike. The banks will win from this too, because they can stop customers drifting away to more daring competitors. (Just don’t mention the fact that cryptocurrencies were invented to do away with banks altogether.)\n\nThis arrangement would also be good for the UK economically. The UK’s laggard approach to cryptocurrency has meant the biggest exchanges in the world are in the USA, Japan (and China, before the government banned them). Simply reducing the friction would go a long way to bringing this economic activity into the UK.\n\n3. Create a framework for ICOs\nYou’ve done your homework and read our guide: “Should You Launch An ICO?” But chances are you still can’t discern if an ICO is legitimate or not. If you’ve even taken one look at a whitepaper, chances are you’ve given up on the first paragraph.\n\nPeople are investing in ICOs just because of the hype and have no idea where their money is going – this won’t end well.\n\nICOs have their place in the decentralised universe. Imagine a new, less awful, Twitter was created and funded by pre-selling usernames – thanks to the blockchain, users would be able to vote on how it’s managed. But although an ICO can make sense, it won’t if there’s no product and the team behind it isn’t even real.\n\nA clear set of rules on what is and isn’t acceptable should be set out. In September 2017, the FCA said “an ICO could be considered as deposit-taking, e-money issuance, contract for difference, derivative or a collective investment scheme”. Er, okay. Also, who is responsible for the funds raised? What is the refund mechanism if they fail to deliver? What action can be taken in the event of governance issues?\n\nChallenger Banks have to go through endless hoops to prove they can hold large stakes of customers' money – how are new blockchains any different?\n\nBut it would be very hard for the government to regulate every ICO out there. So…\n\n4. Let exchanges manage ICOs\nThis has two benefits: it’s a new business model for the exchanges and a central point of control for reducing illicit activity. Exchanges are staking their reputation on the projects so they’ll be incentivised to do their due diligence.\n\nIf an exchange wants to offer ICOs, the regulation should require them to ensure the ICO meets certain criteria. At the very least the tech and team should be audited and background checked. Maybe run the whitepaper through some plagiarism software, just in case.\n\nOn the customer side, anyone wanting to invest should go through Know-Your-Customer and Anti-Money Laundering processes. (This might sound onerous, but it already happens every time you book an apartment on AirBnb.) Taken together, these two steps should go a long way to reduce fraud on both sides.\n\nOf course you can’t stop people behaving stupidly, but at least you can give them fair warning. So each ICO investment process should start with a quiz to check the person understands what might happen to their money. Equity crowdfunding sites do it – ICOs aren’t that different, so they should do the same.\n\n5. Establish a working group of blockchain experts, economists and policy wonks\nEver heard someone say, “Blockchain is good, but Bitcoin not so good”? That’s a fallacy and shows they don’t understand it. This is a new field and you can only take the correct actions if you actually understand the topic. It’s okay, we don’t even fully get it either.\n\nEither way, rather than leave developers, investors and banks in the dark, it would be good to have a report out by end of Q1 2018 that gives a clear steer on how the UK views cryptocurrencies.\n\nFrance already has an open consultation on ICOs. A brain drain on the next possible internet will do no one any good.\n\n6. Don’t innovate yourself\nNaval Ravikant, CEO and Founder of AngelList and CoinList, believes there are only a few hundred engineers in the world qualified to write next generation internet protocols such as blockchains. Ditto for investing.\n\nIt’s hard enough to find security experts and software engineers; finding blockchain protocol designers with proven track records is next to impossible. Blockchains are more than code – they combine engineering, economics/game-theory, philosophy and mathematics.\n\nThere is reason it took until 2009 for Satoshi Nakamoto to create Bitcoin – it’s hard to get it perfectly right and arguably they still didn’t. If the government wants to utilise Blockchains, it should look externally to find expertise rather than promoting within.\n\nAnd above all: do not, on any account, use in Brexit.",

      "body": "In a verdict which will echo across the political landscape of Pakistan for decades, the accountability court hearing the Avenfield reference sentenced deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif to 10-years imprisonment and daughter Maryam to seven years.\n\nThe former prime minister’s son-in-law, Safdar, was also sentenced to a year in prison. Nawaz was further fined eight million pound sterling and Maryam was slapped with a two million pound fine. The court also ordered their properties to be forfeited in favour of the federal government. Maryam’s sentence includes a year in prison due to her involvement in the Calibri font scandal.\n\nNawaz, Maryam decide to return for accountability court hearing\nNawaz was convicted under Section 9(a)(5) of the NAB ordinance, while Maryam violated Section 9(a)(12). The Avenfield properties will be confiscated as per the orders of the court. An extra year’s imprisonment under Serial number two of Scheduled offenses under NAB’s law was given to the duo.\n\nInterestingly, Nawaz has been acquitted under Section 9(a)(4) of the ordinance, which states “if he by corrupt, dishonest, or illegal means, obtains or seeks to obtain for himself, or for his spouse or dependents or any other person, any property, valuable thing, or pecuniary advantage” then the accused is corrupt. However, the former premier has not been charged for corruption.\n\nAccording to Section 15 of the ordinance, both Maryam and Safdar cannot contest the upcoming general elections and have been deemed ineligible. Nawaz’s counsel, Khawaja Haris and Maryam’s counsel Amjad Pervaiz were both present.\n\nWith all eyes on the court, Judge Muhammad Bashir of the accountability court read out the 174-page verdict. The historic decision was to be announced earlier, but after multiple delays, the court announced the verdict in the presence of media personnel at 4:20.\n\nThe former prime minster and his daughter were not present in the country citing Begum Kulsoom’s ill-health and Nawaz’s son-in-law Safdar was missing from court. The father-daughter duo had requested for a seven-day exemption, stating that they want to be in court when the judgment is announced. However, the plea was dismissed and the verdict was announced in their absence.\n\nFollowing the directives of the Supreme Court, Judge Bashir’s accountability court had started hearing the case based on the references filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in September.\n\nCourt to announce Avenfield reference verdict on July 6\n\nNAB had registered three references against members of the Sharif family; Avenfield properties, Al-Azizia and Hill Metal Establishment, and Flagship Investment. While the court had ordered the trial to be complete in six months [March, 2017], the apex court had extended the trial by four months.\n\nNawaz, daughter Maryam and son-in-law Capt (retd) Safdar were indicted in the Avenfield properties case in October 2017. Maryam, Nawaz and Safdar have attended over 80 hearings throughout the proceedings, taking multiple exemptions to visit the ailing Begum Kulsoom in London.\n\nHaris had filed numerous pleas and petitions on the behalf of the former to club the references or to club the verdict, however, much to their dismay, the accountability court rejected all. Haris even moved the top court and Islamabad High Court against the dismissals but to no avail. Frustrated with the deadlines, Haris had withdrawn himself from the case on June 11 and returned days later.
