| title | The job market is hopelessly broken |
| body | In response to my contract ending next month, I have tried to apply to many different jobs. I have lost count of how many jobs I applied. Its safe to say that I have applied to hundreds of jobs. Out of all of them, I only got 1 interview and after that I have been ghosted. I feel hopeless finding a job. I have applied using multiple sites and even went to company homepage to apply. All of them either ignored me or declined me. Finding a job feels impossible now. All of the position requires years of experience. There isn't any jobs that does not require experience. Even entry level position requires years of experience. Its getting ridiculous. Everyone expects a shining unicorn to come by now. It's so bad I have even applied to jobs that require lesser education than what I currently have. Once again, I have been ghosted by those jobs. Even they expect a shining unicorn to come by. The expectation is becoming unrealistic. One way to go around it is to freelance, hopefully the market is not so broken. Either way, I will be out of a job soon. I will still continue to apply, but I do not expect much at this point |

| title | I will be jobless in about 2 months |
| body | I am currently working a contract job as a research engineer doing software programming at some university. However, that contract is expiring soon and I do not have a job lined up. I did try to apply to jobs months ago in response to the terrible job market in Singapore. So I am getting ghosted or rejected. If I am not able to get a new job soon I will see myself working in a retail shop around me. Looking for a job is so depressing with all the applications and rejections you get. There is also another option which I am planning to do. I can go into entrepreneurship. Its scary, but I have to bite the bullet and get into it. Otherwise my monthly expenses will cause a deficit in my savings. And there is my savings. It will probably last me about 4 months if I cut my spending to zero. I am living with my parents right now, so I do not have to worry about bills at the moment. But the challenge still stands. Within 2 months I have to make it or lose it. Just the thought makes me scared, insecure and panic. I am just trying out things to see which works for me. I have started a game dev account in itch.io and released 2 games over there. I have plans for the third game but I will need time, time that is unfortunately consumed by my job. I can work on it after working hours so I can commit 1 or 2 hours a day to game dev. Since I am using this time to write this blog post at the moment. I have plans to start a Twitter (X) account and link it to that profile on itch.io I also have a blog about fountain pens too. I am having trouble coming up with ideas to write on the blog. So it is not getting any traffic. It is so difficult to constantly coming up with ideas to write about. However, I have to keep trying if I want to monetize the blog. I can also abandon the blog and the itch.io profile and start a new one, but that is going back to square one. Maybe if I can write about a simpler niche it is worth starting over. In this case I will have to experiment what niches are worth pursuing. So these are my options. Either go into entrepreneurship or go into a job that totally unrelated to software engineering. As of now I am trying to balance both options. If I can get a job, I can at least have less things to worry about. |

Within 2 months I have to make it or lose it. Just the thought makes me scared, insecure and panic.\n\nI am just trying out things to see which works for me. I have plans to start a Twitter (X) account and link it to that profile on itch.io\n\nI also have a blog about fountain pens too. I am having trouble coming up with ideas to write on the blog. So it is not getting any traffic. It is so difficult to constantly coming up with ideas to write about. However, I have to keep trying if I want to monetize the blog.\n \nI can also abandon the blog and the itch.io profile and start a new one, but that is going back to square one. Maybe if I can write about a simpler niche it is worth starting over. In this case I will have to experiment what niches are worth pursuing.\n\nSo these are my options. Either go into entrepreneurship or go into a job that totally unrelated to software engineering. As of now I am trying to balance both options. If I can get a job, I can at least have less things to worry about.",

| body | After thinking alone, I feel like I want to work for myself, not for some corporation or some boss. I want to work when I want to, where I want to and how I want to. But to do that I have to escape the rat race. To get the freedom I need to work for myself. I want to contribute to open source, earning money on the way to sustain myself. I have tried to create a github sponsor account years ago but till now I have no sponsors. This one ended up in failure. I have only myself to blame for not having the time and commitment to push through until I got 1 sponsor. I have a job and other commitments so I only have weekends and after office hours to spare. I also want to make video games too. I have created an itch.io account and have released some games, mainly to show my learning progress. I have 1 follower, which is encouraging. However, I am not making money from it. As I make games, I quickly realize that I have to wear many hats. I only have experience in programming. I lack the skills of an artist, 3D modeller, a story teller and AI. It is a whole other beast to conquer. I have also tried to use my income for investments, but the amount I have invested thus far is still insufficient to buy time. Time that I can use to reinvest into open source and making video games. At least I am still receiving some side income. And I have this blog, as of now I am writing down my thoughts and haven't converged to a theme yet. I am trying to build an audience for this blog. I have also started another blog as an experiment to see if I can get any traffic. To earn additional income, I have also signed up for Amazon affiliate to promote products based on the theme of my blog. Its frustrating that I am not making progress in earning the additional income, but I have to keep trying. I do not known how many failures more I need to achieve my first success. I have to keep trying, hustle my way out of my job. Once I am out of my job, I will have many options. I can continue blogging like what I am doing now. I can do freelance from time to time. I can focus on open source to get sponsorships on github. I can make games and earn money from it. I can even learn new skills like drawing, 3D modelling, animation, story telling for making games. But first I have to work my way out of my job, to get the time and money I need these hustles. So I want to make working for myself as a goal to achieve. I do not know how long it takes. I do not know how and what to do to make me work for myself. I just have to plunge myself into this unknown and work my way to the goal. My only plan now is to build an audience find out how to leverage that audience. |

| body | I have read my post about what I want in life. Until now, that has not changed. I want a simple life. I do not want a lavish lifestyle where I chase trends. I just want to stay at my home, watch anime and play games all day. But I have to work towards that goal. I have to make money work for me. And I have yet to succeed. I want to indulge in my hobbies. I also want to work for myself, not for others. I find myself more fulfilling working for myself than others, but creating content on this blog and making indie games takes up so much time I have hardly any time left for my hobbies. I need to persist, to the point where I no longer depend on my job for income. Not to mention that the market is bad now. A part of reason why I came back is in response to the market now. I can hardly find a job in these conditions. I might have to settle for a job that is entirely different from being a software engineer like where I am now. I might end up working in a grocery store or a bookshop if this condition persist. I have also started a blog last year which I have also returned in response to this job market. I can no longer be comfortable in a job. I feel burnt out and stressed. But I have to try and see which sticks. I have yet to create a Youtube channel due to a lack of my personal space. So I can only do blogging for the time being. |

| title | I used to love technology, now I hate it |
| body | When I was a kid, I was exposed to technology and fell in love in technology for a simple reason: computer games. Just like everyone who like technology, I studied computing as my major in university. Some years has passed since I graduated and I have been working as an software engineer since. I changed job every year like people of my generation did but the roles is still the same. I used to love technology until my experiences at work. This is going to be a rant on software programming from my experience as a software engineer. Overall, programming at a job feels like fighting against technology, solving bugs after bugs while creating new ones. Its feels like swimming against a strong current and you will even get pushed back no matter how hard you try. There is a user expectation that software should work like magic and it is this disconnect that frustrates me. Next, out of all my experiences as a software engineer, even now, I am working on a software that is not documented. Its like working on something that you do not know and users expect it to work. Under time constraint, I had no choice but to go into the code and modify without letting the current house of cards collapse. Call it skill issue, but I feel like I can only handle code with low entropy. The code feels like it is encrypted in a programming language and I need to decrypt it using my knowledge of the programming language. I have no idea how to work on such codes and how it works. At my current job, the worst part is that I am the only one who is working on the code in a project, the rest are users of the software. All the programmers have left and I am the unfortunate one who joins the project after everyone left. Working on it is a nightmare. There is no documentation let alone a updated one, I need to reach out to ex-employees to explain certain code to me if they are willing enough, the pressure of fulfilling user expectation without explaining the code to them (they do not want to hear it when I tried). I have to make compromise on the code quality to fight against these odds. The size of the code is another problem. It is unrealistic to handle them without, once again documentation. How do I expect myself to join a large project and have no means of documentation to serve as communication of ideas to me. I do not mind reading them, I just need to know how it works so I know how the gears work in a machine. I do not even know the mechanics of the software, so I had no choice to rush into the code and make sure the software does not collapse under its own weight. Another problem is the practice that we have as software engineers. We prioritizes coding the software before making documentation and those who are in the project long enough wonder why the newcomers like me do not catch up to speed. Of course we will be burnt out trying to reverse everything you have coded, of course we take a long while to catch up. There is nothing to reference. In electronics, at least we go from schematics, to printed circuit layout and finally print the printed circuit board. In mechanic, which I am not familiar with, we have mechanical drawings blueprints and so on. What about software engineering? The code is the documentation, read the code and the rest will follow. Its like getting a printed circuit board and amend traces and components without schematics. We can get some work done but is this really engineering at this point? Are we even engineering software? Rushing in to amend code is about the only option newcomers have and it is a race to the bottom to deliver software. Isn't this what agile promotes? Code before documentation. We have code reviews, code standard, but these are just distractions for newcomers like me. They do not help me in any way to let me work on a software like a mechanic. With such practice, I feel like my skill as a programmer has deteriorated. Eventually, I will just add code like a zombie and then end up facing every problem as a skill issue. Not to mention the sunk cost fallacy. Nobody wants to design from the ground up. Its too much work, even we are paid to do them. Its better to work on the currently established code and modify it to become better or worse. I have not seen an project other than software that does this. We do not make better electronics by adding components to old circuit boards. We do not build better bridges by adding something already built bridges. We do not make another car out of existing car. I don't even think I am making sense here, but it makes sense for software. When a new version comes, we just slap a new number to the software and add some code to it. In the end, the software becomes one monster that cannot be tamed. No one dares to reinvent the wheel, so the technical debt widens. I am so burnt out from preventing the software from collapsing on me. I hate software programming. Maybe it is more accurate to say that I hate programming for others. I want to do this on my own terms, to remind myself why I like technology in the first place. I want to take a break from programming. I probably will try again in the future, but I am burnt out as of now. |

I do not even know the mechanics of the software, so I had no choice to rush into the code and make sure the software does not collapse under its own weight.\n\nAnother problem is the practice that we have as software engineers. Code before documentation.\n\nWe have code reviews, code standard, but these are just distractions for newcomers like me. They do not help me in any way to let me work on a software like a mechanic. With such practice, I feel like my skill as a programmer has deteriorated. Eventually, I will just add code like a zombie and then end up facing every problem as a skill issue.\n\nNot to mention the sunk cost fallacy. No one dares to reinvent the wheel, so the technical debt widens.\n\nI am so burnt out from preventing the software from collapsing on me. I hate software programming. Maybe it is more accurate to say that I hate programming for others. I want to do this on my own terms, to remind myself why I like technology in the first place. I want to take a break from programming. I probably will try again in the future, but I am burnt out as of now.",

| title | The story of me starting using fountain pens |
| body | The reason of me using fountain pen comes from a necessity. At first, I was using the ball point pens and gel pens just like most people. However, as I picked up learning Japanese, I realized that I need to write kanji a lot. By a lot I meant A LOT, I have spent hours upon hours in 3 to 4 years studying Japanese, mainly writing kanji upon kanji while pronouncing them in my head. As I used these ballpoint pens, I realized that it only lasted for a very short time. On average, one refill will last one month. At the most intense session it can even last as short as a week. I spent dollar after dollar on these pens until I was spending a lot of money on them. I literally have a box of paper in my house filled with words I have written waiting to be recycled. I have since printed another 1000, yes one thousand, sheets of writing paper waiting to be exhausted, which will last me probably 2 years. But since I was focusing on other things like making games, that will probably last even longer than 2 years. This is when I explored other option: the fountain pen. Initially, I do not have a clear idea on where to find them in Singapore since most people use ball point pens here. Fountain pens are a niche that only a handful of people uses. As then I searched for the reasons to use a fountain pen and one of perks struck me: the pen and ink are separate. I can buy ink again and again while using the same pen. One pen can last me for essentially a lifetime. So, I tried to find a place where to buy a fountain pen. I searched through the Internet, visit places in Singapore and that where I found an arts shop called Overjoyed. The online shop can be found [here](https://www.overjoyed.xyz/). It is located at [*Cineleisure, 8 Grange Road B1-02 Singapore 239695*](https://www.google.com/maps/dir//Overjoyed+Art+Store+@+Cineleisure+8+Grange+Rd+%23B1-02,+Ceineleisure+Singapore+239695/@1.301527,103.8363441,16z/data=!4m8!4m7!1m0!1m5!1m1!1s0x31da19b944e450af:0x5d0572e1b02e9b7e!2m2!1d103.8363441!2d1.301527?entry=ttu) beside Takashimaya store. This is where I make my first purchase of a fountain pen, the Platinum Preppy. Its relatively cheap at less than 10 dollars. Back then I had no idea that there was something called a converter for the fountain pen. Instead, I was using a cartridge that comes with the fountain pen. I also bought an ink bottle at another art store called Arts Friend at Douby Ghaut. It's Pelikan 4001 royal blue ink that contains just over 60 ml of ink. Then I took to practicing learning Japanese. Once I switched to fountain pens, I occasionally switched back to ball point pens. Each I switched back; I was reminded of why I went to fountain pens in the first place. As I used up the cartridge of ink, I started to fill it up with the Pelikan 4001 ink. I also so not have an eyedropper or syringe to filled it precisely. It made a mess out of me, that is when I learnt of the converter and went out to buy one. I went back to Overjoyed store I mentioned and bought a Platinum converter that cost a little over 10 dollars and that is when I kept using it ever since. I have been using it for a while now and it is still in my collection. Then I refilled my pen over and over and was amazed how long a bottle of ink last. At the same intensity where a ball point pen lasts me a week, a bottle of ink can last me half a year to a year. It is kind of a necessity for me to switch to fountain pens and I am still using it from time to time. Since then I have expanded my collection and that is for another post. |

But even so, in the process of making the game, it is my first time making use of 3D assets from the Unity Asset store. I do not have any budget set aside so I only use free assets. In the process of making it I have tried animations which I have no experience. All in all, I have learnt a few new things in making this game. | title | My new game will take a while. |
| body | I am trying to make a simple tower defense game. However, it is going to take a while. As I am making the game, I have tried to incorporate animations and sound into the game. This is one of the feature creep that I need to manage. As of this moment, I am trying to keep it simple. With 2 enemies types, tower types and 2 or 3 waves, I hope I can manage to finish the game. This is my first time making a game with animations and sound so this is a learning experience from me. |

| body | I have made a second game in a day. This time its about avoiding falling objects from the sky. The player is the blue box and the user is able to move left and right using the A and D keys. The player can also jump using the space button. There will be 3 lives and a time to see how long you last. From doing this project, I tried to make sure that the timer's value is not destroyed when changing scene to the game over page(scene) and reset once the user wants to restart the level. |

| title | I am planning to start game devement on my own |
| body | As the title says, I am planning to depart on my journey to do game development. As of now, I have created a game onto itch.io which you can see [here](https://mrbean2000.itch.io/). I have uploaded a simple game to familarize myself with the Unity engine and I hope that I can transition to develop games full time. I do foresee some challenges ahead of me. I only know how to code. So I will have to make do without music, art, 3D modelling and so on. Even then my main language is not C#, the language that Unity uses. I am familiar with C/C++ so that won't be a major issue. I have a day job so I am only working on my game on my free time. I plan to save up to use the assets from the asset store to make a decent game. Not too ambitious, just decent enough. Probably a 15 minute gameplay. Even so, I still have a long way to go to transition to making games full time. |

Probably a 15 minute gameplay.\n\nEven so, I still have a long way to go to transition to making games full time.",

| title | I have found myself a new hobby |
| body | Recently, I feel like I have found myself a new hobby. That is to use fountain pens and dip pens. It all started when I was trying to learn Japanese and I quickly found myself writing the words over and over again in the process of learning new words. I first started with using ball point pens for writing and soon found out that each pen would either not last as long or be unreliable. So in search of the alternatives, I happen upon fountain pens and then later on stumbled upon dip pens. I would love to share this new hobby of mine besides gaming and anime |

| title | I lost my wallet |
| body | It is unfortunate, I lost my wallet. I attended an anime convention in Singapore yesterday and I plan to attend it today. I have no idea how I lost it. I am sure it dropped from my pocket. I tried to search for it but to no avail. With it, I have lost my debit card and my Identification card. I guess I will have to block the card and apply for a new identification card. I feeling a bit down now. Its unfortunate but I have to accept it. |

| title | The 4 pillars of math that I stand by |
| body | Over the course of several years of learning math, I have converged on some theories that I feel that I should call it by the pillars of math. Different people have different theories so here I present mine. It is difficult always keep this theory constantly in my mind so I will try my best to remember them. (I always have an idea that it is the 4 pillars of math) 1. Observation At the beginning of math, people observe the nature and use their current knowledge to explain the phenomenon that is around us. Several concepts arise from the observation. From looking at fly at the edge of the room give rise to the graph using x and y axis we know today to the wonderland we know of today. You can see what I mean from this [book](https://amzn.to/3XkcJzE) 2. Abstraction This pillars tries use one explanation to fit all possible scenario. The concept of algebra, the concept of infinity and through the power of the pillar of observation, formulas and laws of physics has been created as a result. These idea explains a certain concept regardless of the situation, yet the formula remains unchallenged. Even as new discoveries are made, they remain unaltered, consolidating all possible permutations and scenarios and arrive at a conclusion. Ypu can look at the power of infinity at the book [here](https://amzn.to/3EK9o5k). 3. Extension This involves people using their imagination to create theories that extend beyond what is physically possible. The important feature is that the extension should not cause any contradiction to the concept we know of today otherwise we need to rethink of how we understand math. Theories that extends beyond 3 dimensional vectors, number system that go into the complex domain to quaternions. The list goes on. Yet the properties are still consistent with the theories known before. 4. Language Math inherently has its own language. It has vocabulary which allows people to express different operations. It also has it own grammar otherwise known as syntax. Within each area of study, there is a syntax and system that is expressed from the language of mathematics that corresponds to the other 3 pillars. New operations and type of numbers will probably be discovered that will transform the math that we know today. |

"title": "The 4 pillars of math that I stand by",
"body": "Over the course of several years of learning math, I have converged on some theories that I feel that I should call it by the pillars of math. Different people have different theories so here I present mine. It is difficult always keep this theory constantly in my mind so I will try my best to remember them. (I always have an idea that it is the 4 pillars of math)\n\n1. Observation\nAt the beginning of math, people observe the nature and use their current knowledge to explain the phenomenon that is around us. Several concepts arise from the observation. From looking at fly at the edge of the room give rise to the graph using x and y axis we know today to the wonderland we know of today. You can see what I mean from this [book](https://amzn.to/3XkcJzE)\n\n2. Abstraction\nThis pillars tries use one explanation to fit all possible scenario. Ypu can look at the power of infinity at the book [here](https://amzn.to/3EK9o5k).\n\n3. Extension\nThis involves people using their imagination to create theories that extend beyond what is physically possible. The important feature is that the extension should not cause any contradiction to the concept we know of today otherwise we need to rethink of how we understand math. Theories that extends beyond 3 dimensional vectors, number system that go into the complex domain to quaternions. The list goes on. Yet the properties are still consistent with the theories known before.\n\n4. Language\nMath inherently has its own language. It has vocabulary which allows people to express different operations. It also has it own grammar otherwise known as syntax. Within each area of study, there is a syntax and system that is expressed from the language of mathematics that corresponds to the other 3 pillars. New operations and type of numbers will probably be discovered that will transform the math that we know today.",

| title | I am back |
| body | Well, to be honest, I feel awkward coming back after 3 years. It has been a long time since I came back, hopefully I am able to maintain this site as a habit. I am currently receiving professional help and under medication. There are still signs of depression and I hope my condition will improve. I am currently diagnosed with social anxiety and depression, maybe that is why I took this long to come back, finally having the courage to return. During the time I was gone, I have tried learning Japanese. It has been a tough yet rewarding experience when you start to understand bit by bit as you progress. Hey maybe I can give some tips on how to study. For my future self and for al of you reading this. I have also been reading many books. Maybe I can also post some reviews as content. I don't really have much plan when writing this, so hopefully I can use my hobbies and interest to provide content. Lets hope that my condition improves and also have many things to share so I can stay on this platform longer. |
