| body | I was recently mildly chastised on FB for objecting to and condemning the current wave of insurrection infecting our nation. I was told my post wasn’t “helpful”, that what we need is some polly-anna pablum about “unifying our country”. Oh, if only it were that simple. I would be all for some sort of unifying trend in this country, but what I’m seeing is quite the opposite. It isn’t the right throwing the verbal (and actual) grenades, nor working feverishly to subvert traditional American values, rewrite history, and promote an Obamian “fundamental change” in the path of this great nation. The neo-Liberal radical left (which rank and file Democrats have allowed to seize control of the party narrative and platform) wants to redefine “unity” to mean unquestioning agreement with their agenda. The movement feverishly wants to politically dominate the right and recreate America in its own image, characterized by a deeply-rooted disdain for tradition, moderation and faith, manifesting as uncompromising collectivism and philosophical intolerance, and resulting in (ironically) the widening disunity we’re experiencing today. Upon what foundation do I build that argument? It isn’t conservatives who are burning our cities to the ground; nor trying to rig the election with mail-in balloting; nor perpetuating this lockdown in an attempt to erode Trump’s support; nor abandon our borders; nor fan the flames of social discontent; nor abolish the Bill of Rights; nor destroy the economy so they can put everyone on the government dole with UBI; nor stage a desperate takedown attempt of the president via a phony dossier, a corrupt investigation, a kabuki impeachment… and the list goes on and on. The left has no one but themselves to blame for the growing resistance to their extremism, the mass exodus of moderate Dems from their party, and the widening divide in this country. Leftists perpetrated these outrages… and they should not be surprised to find that it’s the conservatives, once they’ve had a gut-full of this crap and have fully lost their patience, to put a stop to it. The Venn diagram of the formerly United States has lost its center, and the circles are rapidly drifting further apart every day. It’s sad to watch the dissolution, but frankly, maybe it’s time the left and the right went their separate ways. Due to the dramatic leftward swing towards socialism of the Dems, we have a compatibility issue of probably insurmountable proportions. As a result, I do not anticipate a reunification under this, or any, administration. A peaceful separation could be accomplished by dismantling much of the federal government, restoring original Constitutional sovereignty and responsibility to the states, and let the terms “red states” and “blue states” define more than just electoral leanings every four years. But that’s a rant for another day, I have work to do. |

| body | Oh, the mighty Amazon is burning down, the “lungs of the world are on fire”! Whatever shall we do?! Doomsday is upon us! ….. Or is this just more leftist hysteria? Surely not, you say? Yes… and don’t call me Shirley. Whenever I see a story so completely dominate the idiotic legacy media and churn lefties into a boiling froth of fear and loathing, I’ve come to immediately suspect the intake of some serious intravenous hyperbole. And as usual, I wasn’t wrong this time, either. Recent NASA data is debunking the delirium of the progressively incoherent with the following facts: “In the Amazon region, fires are rare for much of the year because wet weather prevents them from starting and spreading. However, in July and August, activity typically increases due to the arrival of the dry season. Many people use fire to maintain farmland and pastures or to clear land for other purposes. Typically, activity peaks in early September and mostly stops by November. “As of August 16, 2019, an analysis of NASA satellite data indicated that total fire activity across the Amazon basin this year has been close to the average in comparison to the past 15 years.” source: https://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/images/145464/fires-in-brazil Read that again: “… close to the average in comparison to the past 15 years.” In other words, NASA is seeing nothing particularly noteworthy, much less alarming, about Amazon fire activity this year. We all love the Amazon Rainforest. Hell, I’d love the see the Yanomami people keep on trucking in their traditional lifestyle, forever undisturbed. And were the Amazon truly going up in smoke, my heart would break. But to seize on a story, ratchet it up beyond recognition in an attempt to leverage it like a cudgel against “evil capitalists” is pure propaganda and exaggeration… bullshit, if you prefer. And leftists are our resident experts. It’s overwrought fake news and hand-wringing hysteria like this Amazon thing which is destroying any credibility the left ever had… which, once you get beyond the music of the 70s, wasn’t much to begin with. If anything is being consumed by fire these days, it’s the so-called “progressive” liberal wing in this country… and they lit the match. |

| body | We can (though cautiously) celebrate a victory for the world today. North Korea has signed a denuclearization agreement with the US, and President Trump, from what I hear, made zero concessions... other than agreeing not to make a parking lot of Kim's back yard. The silence on the left has been, as they say, deafening. It would seem many libs are actually disappointed the summit wasn't an abject failure... which, given the stakes, strikes me as, oh I don't know... un-American as hell. And it's true, NK has been duplicitously slippery in the past, so we would do well to follow the advice of our last competent president (in my memory) who said, "Trust... but verify." To be honest, I've never been worried about NK's bluster and missile tests. Building a nuclear arsenal, and having the nads to use it against the world's superpower, are two distinctly different things. But then, I'm getting on in years... it's our grandies who must inherit this world and live to be old themselves, if possible. Trump accomplished what no president has, ever, with NK: he spoke power to pomposity, and in just one day at the table got what the world needed from the little weasel. That's no small win in my book. |

| body | *A good friend and FB buddy, who often poses interesting questions to his followers, had this (regarding a cashless society) to offer this morning:* *I saw a recent article about how Sweden is fast moving to becoming a cashless society, where more and more financial transactions not only are not done in cash, in some instances, cash is simply not accepted. This even includes some banks. This causes problems for some, especially older folks who grew up doing every financial transaction in cash. But I wonder, how many of you have moved towards being more cashless, and using other means to pay for things, such as cards, or Smart Phones?* **My response:** Oh my... where to start? OK, using plastic or an app to pay for stuff is certainly convenient, I'll give you that. I rarely write checks anymore, and all of our family utilities and most bill payments are on auto-pay, saving us a lot of time from month to month. So long as the economy is perking along nicely, and privacy and security are not issues, debit cards are a great way to transact, no question. Being the kind of guy who prefers having options, I like being able to choose between using cash or not. But there are several downsides to the notion of going full-on digital as the Swedish government is attempting to do, with physical cash being banned, and you can bet if that godawful notion ever takes root in the US, personal liberty and financial stability will suffer. You think corporate and governmental surveillance is bad now? Just wait until ALL wealth must, by decree, reside in a banking system known to be corrupt and risk-prone. The safety and security of your money in a bank, and your freedom as an individual in a cashless society, is greatly exaggerated, for reasons others on this thread have already mentioned. It's NOT "your money" anymore Many people don't realize that when you deposit money in a bank, you no longer "own" it... you voluntarily lend it to the bank, and your wealth becomes an asset for the bank to use as it wants. You in essence become an unsecured creditor to the bank, with the promise that your funds will be returned to you upon demand. Which works just fine so long as the bank is healthy. But when banks fail (and we needn't look far to see ample examples of that), then suddenly your money's no longer available. Now, folks will brush that off, saying the FDIC has us covered, but the day of a crash and usually several days thereafter, you're screwed. And in the event of a major crash, such as we had in 2008-9, the FDIC simply won't have the funds to make everyone whole. Then take a lesson from Cyprus in 2012. As a result of over-leveraging forced upon the tiny nation by the European Union, the state bank ran aground, and needed to be bailed out. Except that post 2008, a taxpayer bailout was both fiscally problematic and politically unsavory, so they did a bail-in -- the depositors themselves took the haircut, losing hundreds of thousands in assets to make their incompetent bank solvent again. This technique, performed on a relatively small scale, drew a lot of angry people into the streets of Nicosia for awhile, but in the end, they had no choice but to accept it. And thus the precedent was set. I predict the next crash of the US banking system will be dealt with using the Cyprus model: the taxpayers may be off the hook, but it will be that bank's depositors who shoulder the burden and take the losses. If you have cash on-hand during a bank failure, you can stay afloat, but not if cash has been banned and all your wealth has been funneled into the banking system. Of course, in the event of an actual monetary failure leading to hyperinflation, even a hoard of cash won't do you much good (see Germany in the early 1920s). A newspaper costing 1 Deutschmark in May 1922 was 20 million marks by November. People were literally burning wheelbarrow loads of their otherwise useless currency to heat their homes. Crazy stuff has happened, and with every bank in the world now running on unbacked fiat currency, it can most definitely happen again. I could go on and on about this topic, but I won't. My position is digital payments are all well and good, but the day the Federal Reserve and the government come around whining that the costs associated with printing physical cash are just too much to bear... well, buckle up, buttercups, it's gonna be a rough road ahead. In such an event, you'd best be holding some physical silver. |

"body": "\n\n*A good friend and FB buddy, who often poses interesting questions to his followers, had this (regarding a cashless society) to offer this morning:*\n\n*I saw a recent article about how Sweden is fast moving to becoming a cashless society, where more and more financial transactions not only are not done in cash, in some instances, cash is simply not accepted. This even includes some banks. This causes problems for some, especially older folks who grew up doing every financial transaction in cash. But I wonder, how many of you have moved towards being more cashless, and using other means to pay for things, such as cards, or Smart Phones?*\n\n**My response:**\n\nOh my... where to start? OK, using plastic or an app to pay for stuff is certainly convenient, I'll give you that. I rarely write checks anymore, and all of our family utilities and most bill payments are on auto-pay, saving us a lot of time from month to month. So long as the economy is perking along nicely, and privacy and security are not issues, debit cards are a great way to transact, no question. Being the kind of guy who prefers having options, I like being able to choose between using cash or not.\n\nBut there are several downsides to the notion of going full-on digital as the Swedish government is attempting to do, with physical cash being banned, and you can bet if that godawful notion ever takes root in the US, personal liberty and financial stability will suffer.\n\nYou think corporate and governmental surveillance is bad now? | body | *A friend on FB posted this in a thread on gun control, an idea I oppose: "Bullshit Jeff! Too many fucking guns. period! But keep supporting the NRA and Trump!"* **My response:** Bullshit, you say. OK, so help me understand liberal logic here, because I must be too stupid to see the apparent brilliance of it. The progressive agenda has recently been fully revealed -- they want to abolish 2A altogether, full stop. So then what? The good guys (you know, honest, law-abiding Americans who commit no armed felonies and aren't naturally inclined to run the risk of being found guilty of a felony for possessing a gun) will voluntarily hand their weapons over to authorities (who will be armed)... but the bad guys (who are already felons and could give a shit about the law), or those who have a gun and plan to commit a felony (or felonies) using it, will no doubt hang onto them, burying them in a pipe in the woods somewhere if they have to. So we disarm the good guys by force of law, prosecute them for a victimless crime if they object to being disarmed, and eventually make it impossible for them to protect themselves with commensurate force in a confrontation with a bad guy. All the while the bad guys are given the green light -- they will accept the risk of possessing firearms (because they're bad guys, remember), and will be emboldened to commit even more crime, since they know the good guys (having been sufficiently disarmed) can no longer put up a defense when it counts.... right there and then in the confrontation. When seconds matter, a cop is only minutes away, right? The US should become, according to liberal logic, one huge gun-free zone, where the only armed folks will be a massively more powerful police state (since law enforcement will be taking on absolute full responsibility for defending the public), and the bad guys. The rest of us good guys will have to sit in between these two armies and wonder when the next hammer falls. And of course government law enforcement agencies will promise to be there to protect us, even though they clearly can do no such thing even now (in fact, LE is not even required by law to protect the public from a damn thing, only to investigate crimes after the fact). Worse, recent history proves that LE routinely ignores or fails to act upon repeated warning calls from friends and family members who are worried that someone is acting weird and might do something horrible. And the good guys should accept all this just because it would make so-called "progressives" happy? That's pretty much the scenario the left is painting, as I see it. With all due respect, since you're a friend... this is friggin' lunacy! With regards the NRA, I've yet to join the organization, but I am a card-carrying member of the USCCA, which comes with the appropriate insurance and support I would need in case, God forbid, I'm ever in the unfortunate position of having to shoot a bad guy in defense of my family. But thanks to the loony liberal juggernaut sweeping through la-la-land, such an event happening seems not as far-fetched as it once did not that long ago. And as for our president, I didn't vote for him, but I agree with some of his policies, and disagree with others. Like any president, he's a mixed bag, and you gotta take the bag as it is. He's not a perfect human being, nor would any sane person expect him to be. But he's sure riled up the left, and even many of those entrenched deep-state Washington "conservatives" who are continually on the wrong side of their purported ideology. DC is become truly a swamp of corruption and perfidy. Trump's been a major disruption to the status quo, and DC not only deserves it, but desperately needs it. I wish him well. |

| body | In the wake of the Parkland, Florida school slaying, the country has taken up the debate on gun control with renewed, and more insistent, vigor. The polarization of America is being ramped up to an almost fever pitch as liberal anti-gun devotees and conservative defenders of the 2nd Amendment battle it out. Of course, I have my opinions... not that many of my friends want to hear them. So, to the blog it is. One acquaintance with whom I've often disagreed wrote, "I would go so far to say that the presence of a gun is the only thing that 100 percent of mass shootings have in common." -- Well, any "mass shooting" would pretty much, by definition, require guns. Hard to get shot without one (except I suppose by arrows, which happened in 2012 at Wyoming's Casper College, leaving 3 dead). Mass *killings* would be another matter. Everything from knives to poisoned grape drink to Samurai swords to baseball bats to bombs of various kinds to gasoline and a lighter to motor vehicles to airliners have been utilized to kill masses of people. But I get his point -- firearms make mass killings relatively easy compared to most methods, no question. It also goes without saying that guns also make *defending against* someone wielding a gun possible, which is why most gun owners invest in them. Don't bring a knife to a gun fight and all that. In response to my mentioning the roles of psychotropic drugs and broken homes in contributing to the mass shooter phenomenon, my friend went on to say, "I have heard of no mass shootings done by young women, who apparently don't take these drugs or come from broken homes." -- His non-comparison of girls to boys is typical of today's equality-driven, gender-bending neo-liberal mindset. He mentions girls not typically committing mass killings in a way that would seem to suggest that the idea of boys needing a father-figure to teach them how to be good men is an antiquated notion. I disagree. Boys and girls have radically different predispositions, and boys, by nature, tend to be much more aggressive and confrontational. The proliferation of broken homes in recent decades (especially when it means there is no responsible adult male present on a daily basis to help guide and channel a boy's development) certainly do play a role in the dysfunctional male behavior we see in too many of today's younger people. Not suggesting causality here, but significant correlation at the very least. "But what if he couldn't get hold of a firearm? How many of these young men have taken their pickup and run down a bunch of their fellow students in the school parking lot? How many have grabbed a butcher knife and killed 6 or 8 people in the halls?" -- Interesting that he mentioned butcher knives. Knowing how folks love to bandy about the examples of Australia, Japan and the like in support of stricter gun laws -- in China, where gun laws are extremely restrictive, mass knifings are not at all uncommon. A quick search produced a list of mass knifings in China as long as your arm. https://crimeresearch.org/2014/04/a-note-on-mass-victim-knife-attacks/ The point being that a massively drugged, emotionally unstable, bullied, socially marginalized and pathologically violent population such as has come to be in America will not be persuaded to stop acting out their evil desires simply because we make certain inanimate objects more difficult to acquire. The fact is there are sufficient laws already on the books regarding gun purchase, ownership and concealed carry that are too often ignored; opportunities to intervene in troubled lives before violence erupts are too often not acted upon (look at how both the disgraced FBI and the worthless county Sheriff down there in Florida let 39 red flag encounters with this lad go unheeded); the widespread and casual use of violence-inducing prescription psychotropic drugs and the many unscrupulous script doctors dishing them out goes unaddressed... Lord, I could go on and on regarding the roots of our violence problem that are being swept under the rug by liberals and their lapdog media myopically focusing on the tools of violence instead of addressing the human causative factors fueling the mayhem. But no one wants to tackle those disturbing issues, they run too deep, are mind-numbingly complicated, and often touch us all where we live, exposing the true source of evil in this world and our slavish devotion to playing close to the fire. If sufficient fuel is present and conditions are right, a spark from any source will ignite a devastating conflagration. Arguing about whether it was a match, a lit cigarette, a bolt of lightening, an electrical short, whatever, is pointless. If you want to avoid the conflagration, remove or treat the fuel. Then a spark is just a spark. Pffft. |

| body | **Everyone's a political pundit these days, an arena to which I am, I'm almost ashamed to admit, no stranger.** I mean, Facebook has become so riddled with political jousting it's getting hard to find a nice dog video to take your mind off the machinations of the Machiavellians. Entire families and cadres of once-conjenial cohorts are being demolished daily. Whether it's from the left or the right, the degree to which people are convinced that their faction alone holds the answers to today's most vexing questions is astounding. Robust debate can be a good thing, but the smoke and heat being generated is not good for our nation's health. The bigger problem to me is that, as a result of this polarization, America has become essentially ungovernable. The government's too damn big, corrupt and incompetent, and the stranglehold the corporate elite have on politicians and the citizenry alike is well-nigh complete. Oh, and I forgot to mention the fact that the government is insolvent and in more debt than can possibly be meaningfully paid-down, much less paid-off. Hard to make sound plans for the future when the only way to pay for them is to go ever deeper into debt. To a libertarian, the above is all too obvious... and was inevitable. I find it difficult to imagine an exit strategy at this point, a path back to sanity and relative peace in this once-great nation. We have outlived our usefulness, it seems, and must now go down in flames, as have all other major empires in history. The great American experiment in liberty for all and ethical representative governance has been eviscerated by those in power. **Many say it's our own fault for allowing this to happen, and there's some truth to that.** But it's also true that at every wrong turn there have been voices aplenty against the shift, and they have been at best placated, if not bought off, dismissed or otherwise squelched by those in positions of wealth and power. And if the voices of reason can not be silenced, they're terminated. So this is where we are. We can only hope for the best and prepare for the worst... and work our asses off at both. My money's on the latter eventuality, sad to say. |

| body | Relatively new to crypto, I was nonetheless in a position to see some nice action in my Coinbase/GDAX account late last year when BTC was mooning. I decided I wanted to spec a bit on some altcoins, and after a decent amount of research into altcoin exchanges, settled on Binance. I'm starting to regret that decision. Early this week Binance finally opened to accept new accounts. I jumped in, verified my info, etc, and transferred some ETH from GDAX over to Binance, buying a small stake in BNB. Things went well, and I decided to let it cruise for a couple days, and wanted to withdraw my remaining ETH back to GDAX. I initiated the transfer, did the Google Auth thing, but after repeated attempts and resend requests, I'm not receiving the final confirmation email I need to get my ETH out of there. And after a while, the transaction gets cancelled, so I have to start all over. :-( Contacted Binance Support, but have yet to receive an acknowledgement, much less actual assistance with the issue. I assume I'll make the transaction happen eventually, but in the meantime I'm getting pretty soured on Binance. I can understand network delays right now when interest in cryptos is going parabolic, but this seems extreme. Anyone else having this happen? |

| body | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uq5I9kqHiNI&t=123s On December 3, 2017, Chicago-based Flamenco guitarist David Chiriboga conducted a one-hour workshop on the basics of Flamenco guitar, primarily focusing on four common right-hand techniques used to play the powerful rhythms of Flamenco music. Techniques covered include: • rasqueado • abaniko • alzapura • rhumba The workshop occurred prior to a Flamenco concert at St. David's Episcopal Church in Bean Blossom, Indiana, as part of their Bean Blossom Music Series. Also performing in the concert that evening were Luis Beltran (dancer) and Patricia Ortega (singer). A video of the concert is forthcoming, check our channel.
