| title | 10 WaysTo Enjoy Your Life More And Feel Happier |
| body | 1. Reconnect With Nature This could be a simple 30 minute walk in your lunch break. Step out and appreciate your surroundings. Maybe there is a little park close to work that you could head to and enjoy the greenery and chance of scenery. My personal favorite are beach walks before or even better after work. The ocean, the breeze and clear air helps me to put my daily worries into perspective and often forget all about them while looking at waves and marine life and listening to the calming sounds of the ocean. 2. Schedule Alone Time All day we give, either by working or caring for our family or elderly relatives. It is important to schedule 'me' time to re-charge batteries. Ideally, 'me' time should be scheduled every single day, even if just for 30 minutes. This could be reading a good book, relaxing with a cup of herbal tea or working on ones hobbies such as crafts. Or, for some, just sitting on the couch and doing absolutely nothing but letting the mind wander. 3. Treat Yourself We work hard and many of us have a stressful life, always rushing around. It is important to occasionally spend those pennies we earn on something we enjoy. This could be a nice dress, a new pair of shoes or a good book. For some, pampering is fun and wonderfully self indulgent, so they will enjoy having their hair or nails done, or visiting a spa for a wonderfully relaxing massage. Go and treat yourself in your preferred way - guilt free! 4. Disconnect These days we are always connected, whether by phone or TV or computer. Constant bad news, friends 'pinging us' and wanting to talk, and the strain on eyes is all taking its toll. Take time every day, and especially before bed, to completely unplug from social media, the phone and TV. It may take some getting used to at first but it will feel ever so relaxing after a while. I promise. 5.Sleep Make sure you get plenty of restful sleep. This is an important way for our body and mind to recharge. Make sure the bedroom is dark and cool, and all light sources are turned off as best as possible. Spray some lavender oil on pillows, which can also aid a restful sleep. Try to get at least 7 hours, the longer the better. 6. Spend Time With Loved Ones So important. Spend time with your tribe, whoever it is. For some people it is their family. For many others, it is their friends. Make time for date nights with your spouse. We are social 'animals' and although alone time is great and we need it, we need to socialize just as much. Take care to socialize with positive and upbeat people and those whose company you genuinely enjoy. 7. Cut Out Junk Food Eat well and treat your body as a temple. No need to go crazy and ban all 'treats' though, apply the 80/20 rule and if you want enjoy 20% guilt free! Make sure you get plenty of fresh and unprocessed foods and particularly vegetables and healthy fats (avocado, nuts, oily fish) and your general well being will benefit. Limit processed foods and sodas and don't overuse stimulants like alcohol and coffee which can deplete vitamins and minerals in your body. 8. Cut Out Junk People This is important. Choose your friends wisely. If there are people in your circle who belittle and criticize you constantly and are not supportive, then step back or if you can: just dump them altogether. The same goes for overly negative people. They will drain your energy and you might become more negative yourself. Not good! Concentrate on those who build you up and are fun to be around. 9. Learn To Say No In order to be happier and reduce stress in our lives, sometimes we have to say no. This is part of having healthy boundaries and includes family also. It is ok to say no. Start practicing it now. 10. Get Help When You Need It Sometimes we are overwhelmed with daily life. In that case, there is no shame in getting help, whether this means getting someone to help you clean your house, a baby-sitter or even getting professional help (a Therapist for instance) to deal with a trauma or depression. Getting help is part of being human - and it is ok! |

Ideally, 'me' time should be scheduled every single day, even if just for 30 minutes. This could be reading a good book, relaxing with a cup of herbal tea or working on ones hobbies such as crafts. Constant bad news, friends 'pinging us' and wanting to talk, and the strain on eyes is all taking its toll. | title | How To Overcome The Irrational Fear of Doctors and Dentists, Or Any Other? |
| body | Something I am struggling with is 'fear', and have been all my life. Fear of doctors. Fear of dentists. Fear of flying. I probably could come up with a few more fears, more minor ones, but those three are my biggest. This is interesting, considering that many of my friends would describe me as fearless. I left my home country before I was 20 years old, all by myself, and studied, lived and worked in various countries. I quite happily take solo vacations, hike solo and am generally not a worrier or easily scared. In fact, I thrive on challenges! However, when it comes to a number of things, I have an intense irrational and somewhat debilitating fear. The worst and most dangerous of my fears is that of dentists and doctors. I don't know how many of you can relate, but I don't go to the dentist for years, and same with the doctor. I skip life saving prevention exams...heck, I have to be half-dead before I actually search any medical help, and even then only when friends and/or family practically drag me to a doctors office. I know there has to be a reason for this but all I can think of was one visit to the dentist, as a child, where he told me to say 'aah' when it hurt and he said he would then 'immediately stop'. Drilling without anesthetic. He hit a nerve. I said 'aah' and he carried on. 'Just a little more'. It was so excruciating that my reflexes had me jump out of the chair and knock the drill out of the dentist's hand. He had not stopped although we 'agreed' he would, so I guess my trust for dentists was therefore broken irrevocably. However, I have been to the dentist many times since and although my visits are never enjoyable, I am usually lucky to have caring professionals. Still, I am petrified when I only think of going to a dentist. Why the fear of the general doctor? No idea. It seems more and more irrational whichever way I look at it. Now, I have to pass a medical for my green-card. Just thinking about it is making me sweat. Literally. There I am, googling all kinds of pages on how to help with irrational fears. I am deep breathing, or trying to, until trying to relax with deep breathing seamlessly leads to hyperventilating. What the heck? It seems like the more I concentrate on getting over the fear, the more it bites. A little like 'what you focus on grows'. Yet finally I made the phone call to the doctors' office for an appointment. Just came off the phone before starting to write this. I feel ashamed to admit it took me days to even call them. For days I was procrastinating. Now I already know, the appointment being almost a week away, that I will feel sick just getting there, and my focus will be on just getting it over with without: fainting, hyperventilating, full blown panic attack and nausea. It seems so silly and I can't even talk to my friends about this because I feel ashamed. ..yes, ashamed. Why can I not just 'get over myself' like everybody else? I will let you know how the medical went....wish me luck! Do you have fears? How much do they impact your life? Perhaps you have any tips and hints on how to control them? |

It was so excruciating that my reflexes had me jump out of the chair and knock the drill out of the dentist's hand. He had not stopped although we 'agreed' he would, so I guess my trust for dentists was therefore broken irrevocably. However, I have been to the dentist many times since and although my visits are never enjoyable, I am usually lucky to have caring professionals. Still, I am petrified when I only think of going to a dentist.\nWhy the fear of the general doctor? No idea. It seems more and more irrational whichever way I look at it.\n\nNow, I have to pass a medical for my green-card. A little like 'what you focus on grows'.\n\nYet finally I made the phone call to the doctors' office for an appointment. Just came off the phone before starting to write this. I feel ashamed to admit it took me days to even call them. For days I was procrastinating. Now I already know, the appointment being almost a week away, that I will feel sick just getting there, and my focus will be on just getting it over with without: fainting, hyperventilating, full blown panic attack and nausea.\nIt seems so silly and I can't even talk to my friends about this because I feel ashamed. ..yes, ashamed. Why can I not just 'get over myself' like everybody else?\n\nI will let you know how the medical went....wish me luck!\n\nDo you have fears? How much do they impact your life? Perhaps you have any tips and hints on how to control them?",
