She thanked me and timidly asked me to help walk her to her house. She told me she was in a rush because her husband waited to meet her whenever she went outside. As we approached, I saw a nearly blind man walking with a cane outside of the lady’s house. He came up to us and took his beloved’s heavy bags from me. I immediately recalled how often I was too lazy to meet my girlfriend on the way home from the supermarket or from the train station.\nI lost my leg when I was 19. I was dating a girl at that time and we were very much in love. After a while, she suddenly decided to move abroad, claiming that she wanted to earn some money for us. I wanted to believe her, but was convinced that she was lying. I told her we needed to break up and that it would be better for her. One month later, my doorbell rang. I took my crutches, opened the door and there she was. I didn’t even manage to get a word out before she slapped me and I fell down. She kneeled down beside me, hugged me and said, “You’re an idiot! I didn’t run away from you. We’re going to the hospital tomorrow and there’s a prosthesis waiting for you. I went abroad to earn money so you’ll be able to walk again — do you understand?” I was so overwhelmed with emotion that I couldn’t utter a single word — I just hugged her tightly and cried.\nMy older sister got married. Her husband is a picky eater and is very hard to please when it comes to food. Every time he openly criticizes her cooking, I always recall my sister’s ex-boyfriend. Whenever she cooked chicken liver, he always ate it and said he’d never tasted anything better. It later turned out that he was actually allergic to chicken liver — he just loved my sister very much.\nAfter giving birth to our son, my wife’s vision started to get worse.       "body": "Everyone loves binge-watching. It's so easy to find the remote from in between the couch cushions and burn through a couple episodes of House of Cards while you wait for your takeout to get there. But, believe it or not, way back in 2011, people used to do other things as a couple. A lot of these are things you can still try, as long as you're willing to put off that weekend of The Wire you've got planned.\n1. Explore a neighborhood in your city that you've never been to before. Find some quaint local shops or a new place to eat. If your town isn't that exciting (or big), just pick a place off in the distance and drive to it. It's kind of like clicking on a randomly recommended Netflix show without looking at the synopsis or rating first.\n2. See a play. It's like a movie you can watch on Netflix, except it happens right in front of you, live. As in you could hypothetically touch the performers (don't actually do that).\n3. Have sex. It's that thing everyone does when they're not killing each other on Game of Thrones (which you binge-watched on HBO GO, which is basically Netflix). You two can just do it together.\n4. Go on a picnic. You need to enjoy the outdoors every once in a while. Just bring plenty of sunscreen, since you're probably pasty white after going through every season of\nFriends .\n5. Hit the gym. Imagine if the hours you spent burning through your Netflix queue were spent at the gym instead. You would probably be body builders by now.\n6. Binge-watch ... the universe. Go outside at night and just stargaze. Take it all in. Try and find constellations and planets.\n7. Go to a museum together. Museums are where people went to learn about historical artifacts before Pawn Stars was available online.\n8. Take a painting class together. Classes are like those YouTube how-to videos except you go in person and actually learn something.\n9. Go to an amusement park. Going on all the rides is just like binge-watching in the sense that in approximately eight hours, you will be soooo sick of it.\n10. Make cupcakes. Cupcakes are the webisodes of cakes. [Ed. note: No idea what this means.]\n11. Play Boggle. You can still do this wrapped in Snuggies, lying on the couch lazily, and eating pizza. If you want to make sure you stay up way too late, play Monopoly.\n12. Read to each other. Books are like TV shows that have subtitles the whole time and no pictures (assuming you're reading at your age level). If you're looking to do something as passive as binge-watching, get the book on tape and let someone else do the reading for you.\n13. Read the same book and talk about it. You can even read separately on the couch and lounge around and discuss stuff afterward, just like you'd do with Lost .\n14. Binge-listen to Serial. It's like Broadchurch\nor Twin Peaks , but you can listen to it in your car. Or in your home while you're staring at the wall. Either one.\n15. Give each other hand massages. It's not quite as committal as a full body massage and doesn't take as much effort. Think of it as watching the first episode of a show you're not sure about.\n16. Make fun cocktails, like margaritas with salt on the rim, and drink them while looking at and talking to each other. As in ... not at a screen. Engage each other in actual conversation instead of watching other people have a conversation onscreen because that takes less effort. If you want to really go crazy, turn your phones off too.\n17. Make a bucket list of things you want to do together. Hopefully you'll actually check some of these things off, but just planning things to do together can be a ton of fun. You might even learn new things about each other.\n18. Read TripAdvisor reviews for restaurants in your area and try one you haven't been to before. It's a nice way to venture out of your comfort zone, like watching a show your friend Brad from high school recommended.\n19. Look at New Yorker cartoons or other comics you both like. It'll make you feel classy, like watching Mad Men.\n20. Put your phone in airplane mode for an entire day you spend together so you can focus on just each other. When was the last time you didn't binge-watch a show and just found out what your partner has been up to? They might have some interesting office gossip to share. It might even be as funny as something on The Office .",

Harry was a gentleman, for sure, but at 6 feet 1 inch, he was too tall for me. I’m barely 5 feet. He was very skinny, which made him look even taller. He was blond, and I liked brown hair.\nWe went dancing and he was good at it— so good that he was doing splits and stuff like that. It was a bit embarrassing. I was having a good time, but it felt awkward being with such a tall guy. We’d pass by windows and I could see how huge he was compared to me.\nHarry asked me out for the next night, but I’d accepted a blind date with a boy named Tony. He was a lot shorter than Harry and had brown hair. To my surprise, Harry showed up at my door the next night anyway, and we all ended up going to the dance together. It was embarrassing, to say the least, but since we were all blind dates, we weren’t invested in each other. At the end of the night, Tony kissed me good night— and so did Harry. Other drivers find driving with the company pays better than many entry-level jobs .\nBecause you’re an independent contractor, there’s no real guarantee on how much you can make. But we can tell you the average Uber driver made $568.39 a week in December.*\nReally, we just want to know what it’s really like to drive with Uber — and how to make the most money possible.\nJournalist Emily Guendelsberger delved deep into the life of a ride-share driver as she became an undercover driver with Uber in Philadelphia in 2015. She wrote about her experiences in Philadelphia’s (now defunct) City Paper.\nIn Guendelsberger’s month on the job, she picked up a few tips and tricks that can help you make more money as an Uber driver-partner.\nWhat the Company Tells You About Being a Successful Uber Driver\nGuendelsberger’s training for UberX consisted of a 13-minute video that went over how to offer good service and receive five-star ratings from passengers.\nThe tips included opening the rear door for people, providing cold bottled water and having extra phone chargers on hand for passengers to use. The video also emphasized the importance of looking professional and even showed the star of the video selecting expensive ties to wear while driving people around town.\nHowever, Guendelsberger found even more ways to cash in driving with Uber. Here are the strategies she recommends from her time on the job.\n1. Keep Snacks and Water Handy\nWhen you’re going to be on the road for hours, it’s important to make sure you have everything you need to be comfortable.\nGuendelsberger advises making sure you have snacks and water in your car — but not for passengers. She suggests keeping yourself well fed and hydrated while you’re working, so you don’t have to waste time and money on takeout.\n2. Know the Local Bathrooms\nScope out available restroom facilities in the areas where you usually drive. Guendelsberger emphasizes the need to find public bathrooms with free parking, which can be difficult to find in downtown areas. She found Whole Foods and suburban Starbucks to be some of her best bets around Philly, with free parking and unlocked restrooms.\nOf course, every area will have different options, but make sure you know what’s around before you desperately need to use a restroom.\n3. Don’t Follow the Herd\nGuendelsberger found she made more money by ignoring the recommended times and locations where demand for rides was likely to be high.\nThese are areas like popular morning commute routes, busy Saturday night bars and the stadium when a Flyers game had just finished.\nShe found she actually made more money by ignoring these hot spots. When drivers flocked to a recommended area, Uber’s surge pricing — premium prices based on a lack of drivers in an area — would decrease, meaning those drivers would earn less for each ride.\n4. Drive up the Surge Fares\nTo take full advantage of surge fares, Guendelsberger recommends gaming the system a bit.\nShe suggests logging out of the driver app before times you can anticipate surge fares, such as when the bars close. In Philly, she found 2 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. was a huge time for surge pricing as drinkers found their way home for the night.\nShe recommends logging out of the driver app around 1:50 a.m. or so, waiting 15 minutes and logging back in to take advantage of surge fares.\nLogging out reduces the number of drivers in the area and drives up the fares. It also prevents you from getting a fare, at say, 1:55 a.m., and missing out on surge pricing.\n5.
