Short answer: sort of. But, it isn't as simple as some recent television shows or movies make it seem. \n\nIn these shows a detective will deduce if a person is being untruthful simply because they looked to the left or right while making a statement.\n\nIn reality, it would be foolish to make such a snap judgment without further investigation... but the technique does have some merit. \n\nSo, here it is... read, ponder and test it on your friends and family to see how reliable it is for yourself. \n\nVisual Accessing Cues - \"Lying Eyes\"\n\nThe first time \"Visual Accessing Cues\" were discussed (at least to my knowledge), was by Richard Bandler and John Grinder in their book \"Frogs into Princes: Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) \" From their experiments this is what they found. \n\nvisual cues\n\n \n\nWhen asked a question a \"normally organized\" right-handed person looks (from your viewpoint, looking at them):\n\nlooking up and to the left \n\n \n\nUp and to the Left \nIndicates: Visually Constructed Images (Vc)\nIf you asked someone to \"Imagine a purple buffalo\", this would be the direction their eyes moved in while thinking about the question as they \"Visually Constructed\" a purple buffalo in their mind.\n\n\nlooking up and to the right \n\n \n\nUp and to the Right \nIndicates: Visually Remembered Images (Vr)\nIf you asked someone to \"What color was the first house you lived in?\", this would be the direction their eyes moved in while thinking about the question as they \"Visually Remembered\" the color of their childhood home.\n\n\neyes left \n\n \n\nTo the Left  \nIndicates: Auditory Constructed  (Ac)\nIf you asked someone to \"Try and create the highest the sound of the pitch possible in your head\", this would be the direction their eyes moved in while thinking about the question as they \"Auditorily Constructed\" this this sound that they have never heard of.\neyes looking right \n\n \n\nTo the Right  \nIndicates: Auditory Remembered  (Ar)\nIf you asked someone to \"Remember what their mother's voice sounds like \", this would be the direction their eyes moved in while thinking about the question as they \"Auditorily Remembered \" this sound.\n\neyes down and to the left \n\n \n\nDown and to the Left \nIndicates: Feeling / Kinesthetic  (F)\nIf you asked someone to \"Can you remember the smell of a campfire? \", this would be the direction their eyes moved in while thinking about the question as they used recalled a smell, feeling, or taste. \n\nlooking down and to the right \n\n \n\nDown and To the Right  \nIndicates: Internal Dialog  (Ai)\nThis is the direction of someone eyes as they \"talk to themselves\". \n\n\n \n\nThe Gist of it... \n\nHow this information is used to detect lies: \n\nExample: Let's say your child asks you for a cookie, and you ask: \"Well, what did your mother say?\" As they reply \"Mom said... yes.\", they look to the left. This would indicate a made up answer as their eyes are showing a \"constructed image or sound. Looking to the right would indicated a \"remembered\" voice or image, and thus would be telling the truth.\n\nFinal Notes:\n\n*** Looking straight ahead or with eyes that are defocused/unmoving is also considered a sign of visual accessing. \n\n  \n\n  \n*** A typical left-handed person would have the opposite meanings for their eye-directions.\n\n*** As with other signs of lying, you should first establish and understand a persons base-behavior before concluding they are lying by the direction of their eyes.",

      "body": "Become a Human Lie Detector (Part 1)\n\nWarning: sometimes ignorance is bliss. After gaining this knowledge, you may be hurt when it is obvious that someone is lying to you. The following deception detection techniques are used by police, forensic psychologists, security experts and other investigators.\n\nIntroduction to Detecting Lies:\n\n  \n\n  \nThis knowledge is also useful for managers, employers, and for anyone to use in everyday situations where telling the truth from a lie can help prevent you from being a victim of fraud/scams and other deceptions. \n\nThis is just a basic run down of physical (body language) gestures and verbal cues that may indicate someone is being untruthful. Remember: these signs don't indicate someone is lying, just that they are more likely to be lying.\n\n\n\nSigns of Deception:\n\nBody Language of Lies:\n\n• Physical expression will be limited and stiff, with few arm and hand movements. Hand, arm and leg movement are toward their own body the liar takes up less space. \n\n• A person who is lying to you will avoid making eye contact.\n\n• Hands touching their face, throat & mouth. Touching or scratching the nose or behind their ear. Not likely to touch his chest/heart with an open hand. \n\nEmotional Gestures & Contradiction\n\nhow to see a fake smile\n \n\n• Timing and duration of emotional gestures and emotions are off a normal pace. The display of emotion is delayed, stays longer it would naturally, then stops suddenly.\n\n• Timing is off between emotions gestures/expressions and words. Example: Someone says \"I love it!\" when receiving a gift, and then smile after making that statement, rather then at the same time the statement is made.\n\n• Gestures/expressions don’t match the verbal statement, such as frowning when saying “I love you.”\n\n• Expressions are limited to mouth movements when someone is faking emotions (like happy, surprised, sad, awe, )instead of the whole face. An innocent person will often go on the offensive.\n\n• A liar is uncomfortable facing his questioner/accuser and may turn his head or body away. \n\n• A liar might unconsciously place objects (book, coffee cup, etc.) between themselves and you.\n\nVerbal Context and Content\n\n• A liar will use your words to make answer a question. When asked, “Did you eat the last cookie?” The liar answers, “No, I did not eat the last cookie.” \n\n•A statement with a contraction is more likely to be truthful: “ I didn't do it” instead of “I did not do it” \n\n    \n\n  \n• Liars sometimes avoid \"lying\" by not making direct statements. They imply answers instead of denying something directly.\n\n• The guilty person may speak more than natural, adding unnecessary details to convince you... they are not comfortable with silence or pauses in the conversation.\n\n• A liar may leave out pronouns and speak in a monotonous tone. When a truthful statement is made the pronoun is emphasized as much or more than the rest of the words in a statement.\n\n• Words may be garbled and spoken softly, and syntax and grammar may be off. The guilty wants the subject changed; an innocent person may be confused by the sudden change in topics and will want to back to the previous subject.\n\n• Using humor or sarcasm to avoid a subject.\n\nFinal Notes:\n\nObviously, just because someone exhibits one or more of these signs does not make them a liar. The above behaviors should be compared to a persons base (normal) behavior whenever possible.\n\nMost lie detecting experts agree that a combination of body language and other cues must be used to make an educated guess on whether someone is telling the truth or a lie.",

      "body": "Wheat Pennies - Intro & History\nhttp://www.blifaloo.com/images/wheat-penny-1909.jpg \nFirst, a brief history of the wheat penny: This one-cent coin, produced between 1909 to 1958, is also known as the Lincoln Wheat Ear Cent, Wheat Back, Straw Penny, Wheat Head and Wheatie.\n\nA New York sculptor, Victor David Brenner designed both sides of the coin. Brenner's obverse (Heads) design for the coin is the longest-running design in United States Mint history - and instantly recognizable to any American.\n\n\n\n \n\n \n \n\n\nValuable Wheat Pennies\n\nDo you have one of these rare and valuable coins? Check your piggy banks. Key years are listed with descriptions in chronological order. \n\n1909-S VDB Wheat Penny - up to $12,000+ \n\nVictor D. Brenner's initials (VDB), appeared below the wheat stalks on the reverse (Tails) of the coin until public bitching led to their removal. (See the first coin pictured in this article.) In 1918, Brenner's initials were restored to obverse -- just below Lincoln's shoulder.\n\nOnly 484,000 of the original \"VDB\" coins were minted in San Francisco for 1909 before the public outcry over the prominence of Brenner's initials. \n\nThis burp in history makes the 1909-S VDB coin one of the most valuable wheat pennies. High-grade examples have been valued at over $12,000. Even coins in poor condition are worth hundreds to a $1000.\n\nThe Philadelphia mint produced close to 28 million of the 1909 VDB cents. These much more common 1909-P VDB cents are only worth about $3.\n\n1914 Wheat Pennies - $10 to $25,000+\n\n1914-D - with a mintage of just under 1.2 million. Uncirculated coins have auctioned for over $25,000. In circulated condition they are still valuable with a 1914-D fetching $100-$200.\n\n1914-S - less valuable than the \"D\" mints for this year, but still worth $10+. \n\n1915 Wheat Pennies - $1 - $20+ \n\n1915-S wheat pennies of this year can be worth $5 - $20. Other mints from this year are worth about a dollar. \n\n1922 Wheat Pennies - $10 to $12,000 \n\nAnother valuable wheat penny is the 1922 No-D or \"Plain\" - the Denver mint stamp \"D\" did not show up on these pennies. An average \"No-D\" can be worth anywhere from $300-$1000 depending on grade (condition), and uncirculated worth $12,000.\n\nIn 1922 there were also \"Weak D's\" minted. These are worth about $30-$50+ depending on condition.\n\nThe normal, error-free 1922 Wheat Penny with a \"D\" is worth about $10.\n\n1924 Wheat Pennies - $1 - $50+\n\n1924-D is worth anywhere from a $1 - $50, greatly dependant on condition. Un circulated examples (very rare) are worth up to a few hundred dollars. \n\n1924-S is not very rare or worth anymore than a few cents unless the condition is un circulated. Uncirculated coins can fetch up to a few hundred dollars.\n\nThe 1924 with no mint mark is worth only a few cents.\n\n1926 Wheat Pennies - up to $50+\n\n1926-S and 1926-D coins can be worth about $5-$50 depending on condition. Un circulated examples would be worth much more.\n\n1931 Wheat Pennies - up to $75+ \n\n1931-S cents can be worth up to $75. 1931-D versions in good condition are worth a few dollars. \n\n1943 wheat penny1943 Copper Wheat Penny - $10,000 - $100,000+\n\nAbout 40 1943 copper cents are estimated to remain in existence, and only about a dozen confirmed examples. \n\nThey were most likely made by accident when copper blanks remained in the press as production began on the new steel pennies. \n\nThe easiest way to determine if your 1943 cent is copper (and valuable) is to test it with a magnet. If it sticks to the magnet, it is a steel penny, and not valuable (but still pretty nifty). More about the 1943 Copper Penny.\n\nAlso: The only known 1943 penny mistakenly struck at the Denver Mint on a bronze planchet sold for $1.7 million in September 2010.\n\n1955 Double-Die Wheat Pennies - up to $25,000+ \n\n1955 pennyAbout 24,000 1955 double die error wheat cents were put into circulation.\"Double dies\" are caused by a misalignment during the production of a coin. The doubling is easy to spot. \n\nIn un circulated condition, the 1955 Double Die wheat penny is worth over $25,000. What had just happened? How is this acceptable? The gas station clerk, who had come over to watch me since I had been standing in front of his money machine for 25 minutes, looked at me as if everything was somehow okay.\n\n\"Where are the arms?\" I asked nearly choking on my words, \"Where are the arms and hands?\" The clerk looked at me as if I was from another planet.\n\n \"How am I supposed to firmly shake the hand of the teller after my transaction if there aren't any hands?\"\n\n\"An ATM doesn't use those. It's all automated. That's the point.\" He said.\n\nIt was in that spiraling moment that I projectile vomited all over the ATM and stumbled out the building.\n\n Now, that was last Tuesday. And since then I've done quite a bit of research on the increased automation of services in this country. Automation is like a cat. On the surface it's soft, furry, and loyal. But if you open it up, you see that it's filled with nasty guts and blood that surely ruins the façade that it presents. It's deceptive and requires a deeper examination to uncover its true nature.\n\nAutomation has seen a rise in popularity because it is branded as being \"more efficient\" and \"speedier\". Then explain to me how having to pluck, weigh, and scan each individual grape I buy at the self-checkout in the grocery store is faster than just buying the whole bushel at once from a human cashier? Promoters also say it's more \"pleasurable\". Are you kidding? Whenever electronics talk to me it's always strictly business. Getting directions this and placing your order that. Sometimes I just want to have a long and thoughtful conversation with the guy in the drive-thru speaker. Robots just don't cut it for that sort of thing.\n\nPerhaps the worst part of it all is how many people are being put out of work by machines. The assembly line worker who put caps on toothpaste? Replaced. That over-the-phone tech support guy? Gone. The Italian man who used to come into your bedroom every day at 6AM to wake you up with a hymn? No more. Left and right humans are losing out to their robot competitors. I've done my best to resist it. Anytime an automated answering service picks up the phone, I just start screaming into the handset. \"You big stupid robots!\" I'll say, \"You can't take our jobs!\" Most of the time the robot won't even respond to my criticisms, for reasons I could only describe as a genuine embarrassment and shame.\n\nEngineers have also put a lot of effort into making robots that look like humans and it truly infuriates me.
