bodyCan't say that I have had the pleasure of enjoying ribbon jello myself, but I am definitely inspired. I am a swallowing therapist and enjoy sharing new ways to increase the visual appeal, safety, flavor, and nutrition of texture-modified foods. The idea to layer different flavors and colors is very attractive and the addition of the milk can also fortify the jello with extra nutrients, while achieving the color contrast your mom created as. I hope to share a dessert recipe that utilizes this soon!

With so much sweet produce coming back into season soon, I love to use the tartness of citrus or rhubarb to increase the complexity. The thickness from the reduction would work very well people that have difficulty swallowing fast-flowing liquids; this group often does not get to experience gourmet ingredients or methods of cooking, but hopefully that changes. Thanks for the inspiration!!

title"Down the wrong pipe"- When swallowing isn't safe
body# Lets Talk Grub! Meals are rarely about nutrients or taste alone, they are social events! We gather at certain times of day, with friends and strangers alike, to share these enjoyable experiences. Sometimes one has the pleasure of providing the nourishment, or we have the delight of enjoying dishes made in another’s vision. Whatever the spice blend and produce pairings used, interacting with this platform verifies that this special relationship exists globally. But when meals can potentially become a threat to safety, it can cause people anxiety or to withdraw from these situations. !(https://i.pinimg.com/474x/9e/cd/24/9ecd243762e07147661731c5529eabe6--science-jokes-medical-humor.jpg) *There **definitely** is a wrong pipe!* ### What could go wrong? People with difficulty or painful swallowing, known as *dysphagia*, are too familiar with this reality. When not addressed, the condition could increase risk of choking, dehydration, malnutrition, and lung infections. Fortunately, there is hope for people to improve function or learn strategies that lessen the impact of the disorders. **Speech-language pathologists (SLPs)** are professionals that study the mouth and throat structures and their functions in swallowing, as well as in speaking. Following an assessment, SLPs will made recommendations that may change the **manner of eating**… *adjusting head or body posture, to redirect flow *highly coordinated maneuvers, to use other muscles and structures to help compensate *adjusting intake speed, bite size and order of fluids and solids to *taking items by mouth or feeding tube …as well as the **diet texture**, changing the qualities such as stickiness, need for chewing, and flow rate to make intake safe. ![IDDSI logo](https://iddsi.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/cropped-img_header_new_May2017-1.jpg) *590 million people, or about 8% of the worlds population, are impacted by dysphagia* For many years, these clinicians, along with registered dieticians, have worked to create standard levels of food processing for making patients’ food easier to chew and swallow safely. Unfortunately, there was a lack of consistency, across cities to across the globe; an international survey revealed up **54** unique names for diets and **27** different liquid names. This amount of variation certainly translates to confusion and errors, even deaths. In order to better inform those using altered-texture diets to manage dysphagia, volunteer researchers and care providers have formed the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI). With a mission to: >Achieve global dysphagia diet terminology, creating common terminology and common understanding across international borders, across the lifespan, across all professions, and across the all stakeholders to help the care of people with difficulty swallowing (dysphagia) ...this project has been making up serious ground in serving this community. ![IDDSI Framework March 2019](https://www.swallowstudy.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/new-iddsi-framework-600x643.png) *Solids and fluids are presented on a continuum; I will break down the different levels in future posts* ## How can the Steemit community contribute? The IDDSI Framework needs translating/reviewing of translations. Arabic, Dutch, German, Greek, Japanese, Russian, Slovenian, and Vietnamese are available to be downloaded and a link for providing feedback. Thai, Turkish, Hindi, Hebrew, Urdu, Zulu, Portuguese and Marathi are currently in the process of being translated, and you are asked to [email the IDDSI group]( [email protected][email protected]) if you are fluent. I think this is an opportunity for the global Steemit community to really shine! **Please pass this along to any members that may be willing and able to help.**

titleAsking for help from yourself and others
body![20150822_095522.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmQh1G5kKt6suba1kR56spayXbC7UiRx59Sa94snugbg77/20150822_095522.jpg)I always had difficulty asking for help growing up. I was so caught in this delusion that seeking clarification and deepening understanding was a sign of weakness, that it would expose that I wasn’t smart enough. Yes, you can cut through and assume I have a long history of beating myself up, but we should all acknowledge the strength that asking questions can provide. Without asking a question, solutions are not discovered; progress does not grow from complacency and ignorance. I can attribute my previous thought patterns with identifying my locus of control on my life, necessitating a curiosity and flexibility to be self-sufficient through academia. But the real world has been in my face for 5 years now, only temporarily postponed with graduate studies, and I had to admit my defeat. I had been so concerned with how I was being perceived by others that it was distracting time and energy from understanding myself. Discarding an ego is a fantastic crash between humility and freedom; mourning investments in the past while looking forward with such promise. One of the areas that I finally allowed mental space for was philosophy and the need for a personal morality to achieve peace with existence. Stoicism provided a challenging but impactful lesson in the form of reading a book. We are asked to consider a book labeled @thisismework (insert yourself here)’s Life and it contains everything that you’ve done, to now, and the book comes to an end. Ask yourself, ## What did you wish you had read? This is the jumping off point. Because when moving yourself back into the author role, rather than the temporary reader, you realize that the book doesn’t have to end there. **You** can return to a favorite character from the past, **you** can accept a new journey, **you** can slay the beasts nipping at your heels. For me, the jumping off point was the realization for that I was not fulfilled providing direct patient care and needed to change my daily experience. While I enjoy problem solving, the counseling and other mental weights often follow me, as well as the often obscured pieces to the complex puzzle of an individual’s health. As someone who drools over the idea of crossing something off a to-do list, I found that individuals are not solvable and that frustrates my brain. I do not see this realization as being a coward, a fraud, a failure; it’s just me. Had I considered my generally low empathy, my tendency to want to fully understanding my outcomes before choosing, my personal weight on autonomy in choices, I would have identified that this as not an ideal career path and not pursued it. But my love for language and food, fascination with the human system and vision for a life full of learning can still be put toward a larger goal of progressing the healthcare system. I have been developing a personal brand as a corporate consultant that takes me one step removed from the emotional baggage of direct care, while still utilizing the specialized skills and knowledge I ~~paid~~ borrowed a pretty penny for (*trying* to get it paid back). I am selling my services as a convenience, focusing on a main project that is an impending change for these companies that often don’t have someone with my expertise. I have my audience, I have identified their pains, I have my knowhow… # I just need clients. And this is where I am asking for help. I have been working to develop an online presence through blog interactions and a contact form, but I need to begin initiating some direct marketing. I have drafted email and phone cold calling scripts on which I would like some input. I will be creating some community resources on the global healthcare initiative and I will be sharing them on this platform to help secure this important information onto the blockchain and reach a far wider audience than I could achieve otherwise. After I share posts about the subject, I will be seeking advice about how I am advertising and engaging the community. Any and all considerations or connections that can be made with experienced marketers and B2B sales savviness will be enthusiastically accepted. (Y)ours, ThisIsMeWork

bodyI have only had the opportunity to take a small workshop in pole and lap with beginning moves, but it has mostly just been a side hobby that I enjoy while I clean my house haha. I am finally realizing that I won't feel content if I don't find some way to get out some creative energy that allows me to get out some physical energy at the same time. I am in the process of a pretty big financial/career change that has required a lot of my time and attention but I feel like I am finally ready to commit to time for reapproaching pole dance and fitness.

bodyI really enjoy the style of the project after the editing, this gives me more courage that even though I don't do well with creating a routine prior to getting started, I could edit my flowing work into a routine of my own creations and then maybe try to reproduce later as a routine. The clear chair is killer for the chairwork, perfect for a performance!

I appreciate that idea; as someone who has learned a few tricks in markdown and suddenly think I'm the dog's bollocks, it is very tempting to figure out fun little teasers to be the link for an external resource. But by being naked, it is very transparent and if we're in this network, we like that. I plan to adopt your practice, can always just use a footnote to keep the flow of the piece while maintaining proper citations. And even further protection with regard to logins, be familiar with the levels of security for the different keys so even if something is exposed, damage control is as high as possible.

titleSpring Cleaning Exercise for Your Goals: Find Your Focus
body# Welcome back to ThisIsMeWork: True productivity in the present for success in the future! Community and Corrections: This is the area that I will be promoting discussion from the comment section that I believe deserves recognition or continued discussion, as well as making any corrections if any errors are noted by you all (PLEASE COMMENT IF YOU THINK I’M WRONG OR RIGHT!) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ • No corrections, Continue along to the article below! https://steemitimages.com/DQmRKHoQpCQjYNPntxZcsrpgQZ62dKZ9MknuUWCs355m8nu/Artboard%201%20copy%4010x.png The spring equinox in the northern hemisphere occurred just two days ago and while the ice cubes where my toes should be remind me that winter has not fully departed, I am looking forward to the cathartic practice of **spring cleaning**. Often coupled with warmer temperatures to allow for fresh air to scrub any stale, dry air out of the house, along with cleaning product fumes, spring cleaning has always been a prompt to reorganize my possessions and de-clutter my living spaces. But what about the living space that I remain in 24/7—*Can one “spring clean” the mind to re-evaluate where we focus our attention and time?* I found an exercise that I have used to achieve a more focused approach toward building the life I would be proud of and would like to share the process so others may benefit from the transformation such *drive* can produce. ## Write down your 25 most important goals for your near future **What are your passions and what achievements do you want to tackle within them?** (try utilizing [SMART goal writing](https://steemit.com/productivity/@thisismework/are-your-goals-smart-photography-n00b-on-creating-motivation-for-your-dreams) from my previous post to make progress easier to monitor) When I completed my list I found my goals to be quite diverse, as I have been working hard to experience the elusive sensation of being a master of a skill that gave my existence greater purpose. Among the list was to learn two instruments, the trumpet that I had devoted hours of practice and study, along with my seven-grade dream, learning how to strum a guitar. As I identified in my introduction, writing has always been a favorite creative outlet, but studying photography and editing has joined my interests to provide original content to support my articles. I hope to contribute in progressing healthcare, but I need to work toward leaving a setting within my field that leaves me feeling non-impactful and pursue working for myself to create a career that fulfills a purpose via educating other professionals. I learned a decent amount of conversational Spanish in the past and can see that learning a coding language could be very beneficial in remaining relevant in creating content for the digital age. And it’d be pretty handy to know some hand stiches so I can do some light tailoring to personalize my wardrobe. ## Now pick your top five, most important goals Since I love music and my boyfriend practices singing and playing music often, I knew I wanted to keep an instrument, but I was faced with the need to select only one to practice. Due to the fact that I would not be starting from scratch but brushing back up on my trumpet, and the fact that my partner also played a three-valved instrument, I conceded that the guitar would not be getting dusted off any time soon. And a change in my way of eating had led to me losing weight and thus clothes that needed some altering, but I had to admit that my time would be better dedicated to developing a daily work life that didn’t make me feel anxious or out of control and therefore I prioritized my goal toward creating my own business within my field of work. I continued to weigh out what would be the most impactful and most rewarding endeavors to pursue and I did it; **I found my core five goals**. ## But what about those other goals? It was agonizing to choose those five individual goals that I found to be the right balance of meaningful, challenging, and true to what really inspired me. But as I was harvesting my more mature goals from the group, I kept saying to the goals that remained, “Don’t worry, I’ll keep coming back and caring for you, I just can’t spend much time but I’ll find a way to visit and work with each one of you.” I always saved a spot for my guitar in every new bedroom I moved to, singing along to a song with Spanish words and phrases kept that former skill at the forefront of my mind, and the promise to return *someday*. ![](https://steemitimages.com/DQmdvaGg6SsQtHKGd4aomoNT6W5aFAtLrqYiR7VDfaBPusu/image.png) *But when does a wildflower become a weed?* If you are like me, you have felt that this exercise has become increasingly more difficult with each task that you have been asked to complete. I believe that is the design, we need to get more focused to really hone in on the actions and the beliefs that support them to create the existence that is uniquely ours. This shift in vision of my most immediate future had me a bit shaken; can I really abandon these little dream projects that had been perpetually queued? But I considered what I had gained from holding this wide array of options in one hand, while I tried to work toward my greater passions in the other: the result was that my passions suffered as I was struggling with one hand. Whether it was the physical weight of the guitar, still swaddled in its case for over a decade, or the siphoned brain power that was being drawn down into rabbit holes of “What if I had continued studying Spanish” and “I could run a badass meal prep store”, I was spreading my time and attention across too many areas. *Did you just tell me to give up on my dreams?!* Not quite, but I am suggesting getting comfortable with minimizing your current mental and temporal workload so that you may meet your goals or adjust them to be even more appropriate for our ever-changing lives. *Credit to Warren "Bad Ending" Buffett for creating the 25/5 exercise discussed in this article* https://steemitimages.com/DQmRKHoQpCQjYNPntxZcsrpgQZ62dKZ9MknuUWCs355m8nu/Artboard%201%20copy%4010x.png ### What goal have you made more room for in you daily life? Often coupled with warmer temperatures to allow for fresh air to scrub any stale, dry air out of the house, along with cleaning product fumes, spring cleaning has always been a prompt to reorganize my possessions and de-clutter my living spaces. But what about the living space that I remain in 24/7—*Can one “spring clean” the mind to re-evaluate where we focus our attention and time?* I found an exercise that I have used to achieve a more focused approach toward building the life I would be proud of and would like to share the process so others may benefit from the transformation such *drive* can produce. \n\n## Write down your 25 most important goals for your near future \n\n**What are your passions and what achievements do you want to tackle within them?** (try utilizing [SMART goal writing](https://steemit.com/productivity/@thisismework/are-your-goals-smart-photography-n00b-on-creating-motivation-for-your-dreams) from my previous post to make progress easier to monitor) When I completed my list I found my goals to be quite diverse, as I have been working hard to experience the elusive sensation of being a master of a skill that gave my existence greater purpose. \n\n## Now pick your top five, most important goals\n\nSince I love music and my boyfriend practices singing and playing music often, I knew I wanted to keep an instrument, but I was faced with the need to select only one to practice. I continued to weigh out what would be the most impactful and most rewarding endeavors to pursue and I did it; **I found my core five goals**.\n\n## But what about those other goals?\n\nIt was agonizing to choose those five individual goals that I found to be the right balance of meaningful, challenging, and true to what really inspired me. \n\n![](https://steemitimages.com/DQmdvaGg6SsQtHKGd4aomoNT6W5aFAtLrqYiR7VDfaBPusu/image.png)\n*But when does a wildflower become a weed?*\n\nIf you are like me, you have felt that this exercise has become increasingly more difficult with each task that you have been asked to complete. I believe that is the design, we need to get more focused to really hone in on the actions and the beliefs that support them to create the existence that is uniquely ours. So to continue the pattern, there is one more task and it will be the most difficult step yet…\n\n![](https://steemitimages.com/DQmQYpCpPcvfrjbxR4irwMYgYEWV55K6rMHotqW6DT1rmWc/image.png)\n*I had been allowing these lesser interests loom over me, shaming me worse than the eyes of a puppy when you talk a W-A-L-K by yourself (It was one time, and I already apologized via belly rubs *and* treats…what more do I have to do?!)*\n\n## The remaining 20 items are to be avoided until the main five goals have been addressed and realized.\n\nThis shift in vision of my most immediate future had me a bit shaken; can I really abandon these little dream projects that had been perpetually queued? bodyI have always felt much more productive when I stop letting the **clock** tell me when I am going to rest and instead allow my **body** (and prior engagements) dictate when I rest. I find that when I attempt to "be good" and go to bed at an earlier time, I will rarely fall asleep any earlier (and frequently enough stay up even later) than if I just waited until my body told me to rest. When I use external prompts like an alarm, I find myself "snoozing" much more frequently, which always translates to me feeling more tired when I *eventually* drag myself out of bed. I also don't have a consistent work schedule so I find it hard to set a sleeping routine. I have been curious about attempting a biphasic sleeping experiment to see if I can use it to assist with achieving a moment for mindfulness with every day and maybe benefit from improved productivity. But regardless of how many phases of sleep, I'm a night owl forever!

bodyI enjoy the promise of the blockchain community for the potential to create a community that avoids the censorship problems other platforms of which those interested in sharing and learning have been victims. By having more open communication, there is less time for the uncertainties to be painted by anxieties of the unknown; the Steemit community appears to be a place where people can interact with a **large** spectrum of opinion on any given topic and leaves the consumer of the information, and not the platform, to determine what information should not be given additional considerations. This skeptical filter is essential for effective decision-making and many people benefit from having forums to discuss these ideas viewpoints from which another person is viewing it. From a very personal standpoint, I have always considered deepening my understanding a certain topic to be much more valuable than joking with a stranger about a shared experience but I have grown to appreciate that we are doing both in life, learning of our shared existence by learning of other individuals existence as well. Humans are social and our need for creating this global network has long been established, technology has begun to find a way to tear down the artificial boundaries. I appreciate the reflection on this important facet of our community and communications role in life, appreciate the discussion!

"body": "I enjoy the promise of the blockchain community for the potential to create a community that avoids the censorship problems other platforms of which those interested in sharing and learning have been victims. \n\nFrom a very personal standpoint, I have always considered deepening my understanding a certain topic to be much more valuable than joking with a stranger about a shared experience but I have grown to appreciate that we are doing both in life, learning of our shared existence by learning of other individuals existence as well. Humans are social and our need for creating this global network has long been established, technology has begun to find a way to tear down the artificial boundaries. I appreciate the reflection on this important facet of our community and communications role in life, appreciate the discussion!",

I think that you will find many of us are finding it more possible to fund the exploration of our interests utilizing crypto currencies, the time is now! :) I'd like to point you toward another pole sister of ours that I found, @polebird, that is a doll and has fun pole related posts and has started her own community around other aerial arts too with her sister. Lovely routine at the end, I noticed you said it was choreography class and that there was some slight differences from what others did around you...were you flowing or practicing a routine?

bodyThanks for the multiple levels of education about reputation, as there is quite a large range of experience on this platform. While I am still "young", I did figure out on my own when I invested that you can't buy a good reputation ;)

bodyAbsolutley agree! Excessive carbohydrate intake, particularly of artificial "simple ones, does seem to lead to insulin resistance, as the body is constantly attempting to bring down the level of sugar present in the blood. Healthy fats will help you feel full when you have less carbohydrates, protein keeps your body from going after your muscles and when you eat fewer calories than you body needs (per your activity levels), it will eat away at excess body fat that may be impacting your organ function. A slow gradual change will be smoothest transition, but if you go cold turkey, you see a quick difference, partially due to water weight. Speaking of which, make sure you are getting a lot of water and your electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium) to avoid the brain fog or achiness your body will experience during sugar withdrawls, especially with the widespread "western diet" these days.
