      "body": "Written by tien\nFrom Heralddesign Korea \n\n\n독창적인 카페와 스토어들이 생겨나는 요즘 유독 눈에 띄는 컨셉이 있다. 바로 ‘가드닝’ 이다. 말그대로 ‘Gardening’ 가꾸는 행위를 강조한 용어다. 특히 ‘연남동’의 개인 주택들이 카페와 레스토랑 그리고 전시 복합공간으로 재탄생되면서 더욱 주목 받게 된 공간이 바로 ‘마당’이다. 도심 속 친근한 대체 공간으로서 시민들에게 또 다른 삶의 질을 제공하고 있다. 이런 분위기는 자연스럽게 ‘가든’에 대한 관심으로 이어져 대중화 될 전망이다. 그래서 이번 기사에서는 인치볼드 서울 대표 가든 디자이너의 인터뷰를 통해 아직은 우리에게 생소한 ‘가든 디자인’에 대해 소개하고자 한다. 그녀는 현재 경복궁에 위치한 스튜디오에서 가든 디자인을 교육을 통해 알리고 있는 디자이너다. 개인적인 영국에서의 인연으로 곁에서 새로운 도전을 응원하고 있다. 흔쾌히 여러 시간에 걸쳐 스튜디오를 인터뷰 장소로 맞이해 주었다. \n\n-인치볼드 서울에 대한 소개 부탁 드립니다. \n영국 런던에 위치한 인치볼드 디자인 학교는 1960년 인테리어 디자인 학교로 시작해서, 1974년 본격적으로 가든디자인 학교를 설립하여 세계적인 가든 디자이너들을 배출하면서 유명해진 디자인 전문교육기관입니다. 한국에서는 2017년 5월 첫 수업을 시작으로 런던 본교에서 쌓아온 수업경험과 창의적인 교육방식을 접할 수 있는 디자인 교육공간으로 첫 발을 내딛게 되었습니다.\n\n-인치볼드 서울 위치를 경복궁으로 정한 이유가 있나요?\n경복궁은 항상 재미있습니다. 옛 것과 현대적인 것, 도시와 자연, 대형 빌딩과 작은 가게들, 시크함과 촌스러움, 이런 것이 다 합쳐져서 이곳만의 분위기를 연출하고 있어 항상 저희 호기심을 자극하는 곳입니다. 이 곳에서 스튜디오를 열게 되어 너무 즐겁습니다.\n\n-인치볼드 서울에서 다루고 있는 디자인 분야는 무엇입니까?\n인치볼드 서울이 다루는 디자인 분야를 말하기 앞서, 에피소드를 먼저 얘기해 볼까 합니다. 최근 카페나 전시복합공간 덕분에 많은 분들이 ‘가드닝’에 대한 관심이 생겨 저희 인치볼드 서울을 찾아오신 분들이 꽤 있습니다. 가드닝은 가든디자인과 가까운 가족입니다. 가드닝은 가든을 관리 및 유지하는 활동이라고 하면 가든디자인은 이런 활동을 가능하게 하는 가든이라는 공간을 창조하는 것인데 저희 학교는 여기에 초점이 맞춰져 있습니다. 또한 가든 디자인은 조경과도 한 가족이라 할 수 있습니다. 두 개의 차이점은 영국 학교에서 학위의 이름이 다른 것에서 쉽게 알 수 있습니다. 조경은 Science(과학)으로, 가든디자인은 Arts(예술)로 학위 분야가 달라집니다.\n\n-아까 에피소드를 통해 ‘가드닝’에 대한 오해를 안타까워 하셨는데, 헷갈리는 이유가 궁금합니다.\n(난감한 웃음) 오해라기 보다 어쩌면 당연하죠. 환경상 ‘가든’에 대한 문화가 보편적이라면 지식 공유가 있기 마련인데 아니라면 구분의 필요성을 느끼기 힘들죠. 가든을 가꾸고 유지하는 활동이 가드닝이라고 말씀 드렸듯이, 가드닝은 전문적으로는 수목원이나 화원에서 프로 가드너들에 의해서도 이루어지기도 하고 가까이는 요즘 언급하신 카페, 문화공간, 그리고 우리가정에서도 화분을 기르고 관리하는 모든 활동이기 때문에 휠씬 더 익숙하고 친숙하게 다가옵니다.\n\n-듣고 보니 ‘가든’과 ‘가드닝’에 차이가 있네요. 그렇다면 가든 디자인에서 전문적으로 고려되는 부분을 더 알 수 있을까요. \n가든이라는 공간을 연출하기 위해서는 그 공간의 모든 구성요소들을 디자인적인 측면에서 해석하고 풀어야 합니다. 그 구성요소들은 가장 보편적으로 알려져 있는 식재들을 포함해서 길, 아웃도어 가구, 수공간, 벽 등과 같은 건축 및 익스테리어 부분들도 모두 포함이 됩니다. 이 모든 구성요소들이 의도한 대로 연출되고 균형과 조화가 이루어진 공간을 창조하는 것이 중요한데, 식재만 하더라고 식재의 형태, 질감, 색상, 크기의 특징을 이해하고 주변의 환경에 맞는, 아니면 주변 구성요소들을 식재에 맞게 구성하도록 하는 것입니다. 설명하다 보니 이런 내용들을 더 공유할 수 있는 분들이 많아졌으면 좋겠다는 생각이 듭니다. 최근 한국에서 셀프 인테리어 덕분에 일반인도 준전문가 수준인 경우가 많은 것처럼 ‘가든디자인’ 분야에서 제가 가든 문화의 보편화를 일조 할 수 있었으면 좋겠네요. \n\n-혹시 인치볼드 서울 코스를 하고 있는 학생들을 강의하면서 느낀 점이 무엇인가요? \n기본적으로 디자인에 대한 열망이 크다고 느꼈습니다. 식재 중심의 교육은 기존의 학교들에서도 충분히 잘 이루어지고 있기 때문에 그래서 이 곳을 찾는 학생들은 특히 디자인 중심의 가든 연출에 대한 관심이 높습니다. 디자인에 대한 지식을 가든과 접목하여 습득하고 싶어하죠. 또한 이들의 연령대와 직업군이 다양합니다. 은행원, 법률가, 직장인 등. \n\n-그렇다면 디자인 지식을 접할 기회가 없었던 학생에게 디자인을 접할 수 있도록 무엇을 추천해주시나요?\n예술이나 예술가(예술사조)에 대한 노출을 특강이나 환경적으로 제공하기 위해 노력합니다. 색감이나 구도 외 다양한 정서적 힌트를 얻을 수 있기 때문이죠. 영국에서 접근하는 방식은 물리적인 측면보다는 정서적인 측면으로 접근하는 경우가 많습니다. 방문객들이 들어섰을 때 그 가든에서 느끼는 경험이나 감정, 분위기를 중요시하고 연출하고자 노력합니다. 유명한 가든 디자이너들 중에는 본인이 디자인한 가든이 '한 장의 사진이나 한 장의 그림처럼 보여지기를 바란다'라고 표현하시는 분들이 많습니다. 그래서 인치볼드 서울 역시 디자인에 이런 부분을 강조하는 면이 있습니다.\n\n-가든 디자인에 대해서 관심을 갖게 된 구체적인 계기가 있나요?\n어느 날 숲을 산책하다가 식물들을 보고 저것도 디자인을 해보면 어떨까 하고 생각한 게 계기입니다. 찰나의 생각이었는데 그게 현실이 되어 이제는 제 일이 되었습니다. \n\n-가든 디자인을 할 때 가장 중요하게 여기는 게 있나요?\n저는 전체적인 조화가 가장 중요하다고 생각합니다. 그 조화 안에는 주변환경도 포함됩니다. 저희가 사람얼굴에 대해서 얘기할 때 하나 하나 뜯어보면 예쁘지 않은데 얼굴이 예뻐 보인다는 말이 있듯이 그 구성요소 하나하나가 고가이거나 특별한 것이 아니더라도 모든 구성요소들이 같이 어우러져 하나의 이야기를 만들어내고 그 안에서 사람들이 즐거움을 찾을 수 있다면 그 디자인은 성공한 것이라 생각합니다.\n-이 공간을 제공함으로써 기대하는 모습은 무엇인가요?\n인치볼드가 이제 걸음마를 떼기 시작한 한국의 가든디자인 분야에 올바른 이정표를 제시할 수 있기를 바랍니다. 가든디자인이 뭔지, 무엇을 어떻게 해야 하는지 갈팡질팡 길을 찾지 못하는 분들에게 그들이 가야 할 방향을 제시하고, 나아가서 그들만의 독특한 디자인 세계를 구축할 수 있는 발판이 될 수 있길 바랍니다. 그러면 우리나라에서도 곧 세계적으로 인정받는 가든디자이너가 나오지 않을까 기대해 봅니다.\n\n-앞으로의 계획은 무엇인가요?\n저는 학교와 개인디자인 스튜디오를 같이 운영하고 있습니다. 학교를 통해서는 앞으로 런던 본교와의 협조 하에 한국에 양질의 가든디자인 교육 컨텐츠를 제공하고 이로 인해 멋진 가든디자이너들을 배출하는 것입니다. 동시에 개인적으로는 국내 뿐만 아니라 해외와의 협업을 통해 가든디자이너로서 활발한 활동을 할 계획입니다",

      "body": "집 안에 SPA 브랜드 제품 하나쯤은 쉽게 찾아볼 수 있다. 그 SPA 브랜드 제품들로 내 집 가득히 채우고나서 어느 샌가 쉽게 버리는 내 자신을 발견할 수 있다. 그리고  일말의 죄책감을 떨쳐버릴 수 없을 것이다. 그래서 여러 SPA 브랜드들은 지속가능한 디자인 캠페인을 통해 브랜드 이미지에 대한 이런 부정적 인식을 환기 시키고자 한다. 하지만 아직 지속가능한 디자인 캠페인이 사람들의 습관으로 스며들기엔 걷도는 느낌을 지울 수 없다. 이런 흐름 속에서 SPA 브랜드가 대중들 사이에 돌고 있는 묘한 반감을 어떻게 풀어낼지에 따라 브랜드의 전화위복의 가능성을 예측해볼 수 있다.  SPA 브랜드의 가치에 대한 불신을 잠식할 새로운 수요를 그들이 놓칠리 없다. 바로 웨딩시장이다. 오랜기간 전 세계적 경기불황 속 물가상승과 취업난에 지친 젊은이들에게 결혼문화는 소비가치논쟁을 양상화 시키고 있다. 특히 한국에서 성별 대립의 각으로 번지고 있는 결혼문화에 대한 논의가 점점 가열되고 있는 가운데 젊은이들에게 새로운 대안으로서 스몰웨딩이 더욱 트렌드로 자리매김하고 있다. 이런 배경 속에서 SPA 브랜드 역시 합리적인 가격의 웨딩드레스와 컬렉션 런칭을 발빠르게 제안하고 있다.  \n\n선두로 영국의 대표적인 SPA 브랜드 TOPSHOP과 스웨덴의 H&M 브랜드는 웨딩 컬렉션을 런칭하여 그 영향력을 확장하고 있는 추세다. 중국의 세계적인 셀러브리티 ‘서기’의 2016년 결혼식에 착용한 H&M의 컨셔스 익스클루시브 컬렉션의 웨딩 드레스는 숱한 화제를 불러일으켰다.특히 이 웨딩 드레스에 사용된 재생가능한 소재는 미적인 기능과 환경적 기능이 동시에 잘 어우러져 대중에게 친근하게 다가서고 있다. 그 이전에 안젤라 베이비를 포함한 중화권 스타들의 수십억대 결혼비용에서 큰 비중을 차지한 품목 중 하나인 드레스와 달리 서기의 SPA 브랜드 웨딩드레스 선택은 SPA 브랜드가 현대인들에게 제공하고자한 서비스의 진정성이 잘 전달되면서 미적 기능에 대한 대중의 의구심을 한결 풀어주었다. 또한 턉샵(TOPSHOP)은 2017년은 4월 중순에 오프라인을 통해 출시한 웨딩 컬렉션 라인에서 웨딩 슈즈를 비롯한 액세서리, 바디 라인을 잡아주는 아일렛 바디 속옷 등과 같은 다양한 웨딩 소품을 선보이고 있다. 특히 해외 직구를 염두한 오프라인 서비스 제공은 미루어 짐작하컨데 글로벌 시장의 수요가 높다는 걸 의미한다. 또 다른 SPA 브랜드, 포레버21 역시 앞다투어 웨딩 컬렉션 웹사이트 서비스와 제품들을 런칭하고 있다. 한국에서는 가수 이효리의 스몰웨딩을 시작으로 다른 셀러브러티들의 스몰웨딩들이 늘어나고 있는 추세하다. 하지만 한국에서 스몰웨딩이 트렌드화되어 일반인들에게 낯선 문화는 아니지만 간소할지라도 바쁜 현대인들에게 시간을 내어 모든 결혼 준비를 독점적인 웨딩시장에서 개인이 오롯이 준비한다는 건 쉽지 않았다. 오히려 스몰웨딩이라는 명목 하에 무엇을 생략하느냐를 두고 벌어지는 커플 사이의 상의가 논쟁으로 이어져 의도가 퇴색된다는 의견도 만연했다.\n\n특히 한국의 문화적 특성상 드레스는 일상적으로 입을 기회가 극히 드물기 때문에 다양한 드레스의 디자인을 접할 기회가 적었다. 그래서 자신에게 맞는 체형과 스타일을 합리적으로 판단할 경험도 적은 신부들은 원하는 작은 디테일과 원단의 느낌만으로도 액수의 차이가 천차만별인 걸 몇번 겪다보면 합리적인 소비에 대한 판단력이 흐려지기 일 수 였다. 하지만 SPA 브랜드의 웨딩시장의 확장으로 인해 제공되는 웨딩 소품, 액세서리들을 통해 다양한 스타일링 연출을 부담없이 해볼 수 있게 되었다. 이렇듯 스스로들의 이벤트를 일상에서 만들고 개성 있는 소비문화를 통해 자신을 표현하길 원하는 젊은이들에게 SPA 브랜드의 브라이덜(Bridal)컬렉션 제안은 다양한 웨딩문화가 정착하는데 큰 기여를 할 것으로 전망한다.\n\n\nhttp://www.heralddesign.co.kr/read/view.php?no=445&btype=trend",

      "body": "Written by _ NURI OH(Tien)\n\n\n\n데미안 허스트(Demian Hurst). 그는 헤럴드 경제 부문의 수퍼 리치(Super rich) 기사에서  전한 현존하는 세계 최고 부자로서 꼽힌 영국 현대 예술작가다. 예술의 순수성을 논의하는 이들에게 씁쓸한 소식일지 모른다. 자본에서 자유로울 수 없게 된 예술의 변질처럼 보이기 때문이다. 이 시점에서 그러면 이와 반대되는 삶을 살았던 작가 빈센트 반고흐(Vincent Van Gogh)가 생각나기 마련이지 않을까. 불과 1987년부터 유명해진 기간이 지금으로부터 채 30년이 되지 않았고 단 한번의 사랑도 성공하지 못했던 40세 요절한 작가의 순정. 1890년대 6월 10일 자신의 형제 테오에게 전시에 대한 희망을 편지로 남긴지 약 100년만에 그 꿈을 이룬 네덜란드 출신 작가. 이 상반된 두 아티스트를 통해 우리에게 아티스트는 아직 어떤 이미지로 남았을까.\n\n본격적인 논의에 앞서 패션 분야에서 많은 아티스트와의 일명 협업(Collaboration)이나 인스피레이션(inspiration)을 통한 프로젝트는 흔히 찾아볼 수 있는 일이 되었다. 예를 들면 마크 제이콥스(미국의 대표적인 디자이너)는 루이비통(Louise Vuitton) 크리에티브 디렉터 시절 수 많은 아티스트들의 아이디어를 차용해 재치있는 디자인 컨셉을 통해 성공적인 매출로 이어지게 했다. 그리고 낡고 구관습적인 명품의 이미지를 젊고 재치있는 이미지로 이끈 성공적인 브랜드 디렉팅의 파급력을 입증했으며 동시에 다른 명품 브랜드들 역시 스트리트 패션과의 경계를 과감히 무너뜨린 시초를 제공한 인물이다. 그렇기 때문에 여기서 ‘협업’이란 주제를 트렌드로서 언급한다는 건 의미없는 짓일지 모른다. 하지만 협업이란 디자인 환경의 플랫폼 속에서 변화가 없다는 잠정적인 결론으로 인해(혹은 타성에 젖어) 논의할 열외 대상으로 제쳐두는 건 트렌드를 예측할 수 있는 일말의 기회를 놓칠 수 있다. 협업으로 인해 다양한 분야의 아티스트들과 디자이너들의 역할적 의미가 진화하고 그에 따른 존재적 정의에 영향을 미치고 있기 때문이다. \n다니엘 뷔런(Daniel Buren), 쿠사마 야요이(Kusma Yatoi), 앤디 워홀(Andy Warhol) 외. 이들은 대부분 생존하지 않거나 인생의 후반부에서 예술시장에서 상품성을 검증받은 뒤에야 오마쥬 형식으로 디자인에 나타났다. 하지만 이들과 달리 협업하는 아티스트들의 연령대가 낮아지면서 아티스트의 활동영역이 확장되고 시장성을 창출하는 중요한 역할을 하고 있다. 대표적인 예로 토드 셀비를 들 수 있다. 그는 이번 대림 미술관에서 ‘즐거운 나의 집’ [The Selby’s house]을 주제로 국내에 소개되고 있다. 그는 포토그래퍼이자 일러스트레이터 이 밖의 다양한 명칭으로 재기발랄한 프로젝트들을 선보이고 있다. 그리고 주제 역시 우리에게 일상적이지 않은 인물, 칼 라거펠트(Karl Laegerfeld) 혹은 유명 인사들의 일상공간을 통해 타인의 삶을 기록하는 사진과 일러스트로 알렸다. 그는 여행을 통해 세계 여러 곳에서 활동하는 크리에이터들의 개인적인 공간과 패션과 요리의 영역에서 활약하는 인물들의 개인 작업 공간을 촬영하였다. 그리고 이런 작업들을 2008년 자신의 블로그 ‘더셀비닷컴(theselby.com)에 공개되면서 큰 주목을 받았다. 대림 미술관에서 제작한 그의 인터뷰에 따르면 그는 자신의 명칭에 한계를 규정짓지 않고 설치, 영상, 일러스트를 통해 자신만의 시각 언어를 끊임없이 발전시키고 대중과의 보다 친근하고 적극적인 소통을 하는 작가로 자신을 설명한다. 이런 그의 유쾌한 시각적 소통은 자신의 삶의 방식과 가치에 의해 일어나는 스토리 컨셉을 기반으로 남성의 소비 시장을 공략하기 위한 루이비통(2010)의 또 다른 뮤즈가 되었다.  \n\n이처럼 셀비를 통해 본 아티스트의 이미지가 더 이상 데미안 허스트와 반 고흐와 같은 아티스트 이미지와는 거리가 있음을 눈치챘을 것이다. 최근 젊은 아티스트들은 자신의 삶의 방식을 적극적으로 표현하고 표현하고자 하는 대상과 테크닉(Tool)에 따른 전문성에 구애받지 않는 특징을 갖고 있다. 그리고 경계에 머무르지 않고 몸소 스스로를 뮤즈삼아 협업 프로젝트를 통해 활동영역을 통해 넓혀가면서 자신의 상품성을 적극적으로 알리는데 능해지고 있다. 이는 아티스트라는 개념을 젊은이들 스스로가 추상적인 사회참여가 아닌 적극적이고 유연하며 생산적인 존재로서 대중에게 다가서실 바라는 실천적 현상이다. 특히 젊은 아티스트들은 미디어에 대한 거부감보다 공생적 관계로 여기며 또 다른 미래적 역할을 모색해 나가고 있다.\n우리 나라에도 이런 흐름에 영향받아 젊은 아티스트들에게 해외 가수들의 앨범 자켓작업의 협업의뢰가 들어오기 시작하면서 국내 대형 기획사마다 크리에이티브 디렉터를 전격 기용해 기획사 가수의 앨범 컨셉과 활동방향까지 점점 그 영역을 넓혀가고 있다. 하지만 셀비와 같이 좀 더 주체적인 아티스트의 층이 두터워질 수 있는 시장환경과 사회적 시선이 자리잡기까지 아티스트들의 활약이 단발성으로 끝나지 않고 배출되길 바란다.  \n\n\nhttp://m.heralddesign.co.kr/read/view.php?no=415&btype=trend",
