You even have Citibank (a reputable banking company) made the claim they believe bitcoin will soar to $300k per coin by end of 2021. As much as I would celebrate on my brand new yacht when it crosses that price point, that’s not something I am betting my dollar on or even expecting it to hit that any time soon. Regardless of the statements made I say it does users an incredible disservice to shout random coins and random prices at them without properly giving them resources or guidance to properly navigate the space safely. You will hear a popular phrase in the crypto space “Do Your Own Research”(D.Y.O.R), but what does that mean? Most people will start with google. If you type in cryptocurrency or any variant of it; this is what pops up.\n\n\n![brave_2020-12-01_17-05-45.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmQk3XY87WfdtAxE3nX5A6ucvSp1KcUxaGXqHgijEjSUfd/brave_2020-12-01_17-05-45.png)\n\nNews articles, Wikipedia pages, top visited sites in the space, and of course definitions. Google now does a great job at placing proper information for people to garner a concept of what cryptocurrency is, how it works, and insight into some new developments. However, in this article, I would love to grant you all some fantastic sources where you can go to learn more about cryptocurrency once you poked around a few places presented by big boy google to expand your knowledge and understand the community!\n\n# 1. New Sources\n*Examples: Cointelegraph, Decrypt, and Coindesk*\n\n\nAs mentioned prior, news articles are going to be the first place anyone goes to when they hear anything related to cryptocurrency and it makes sense. With news sources being presented first upon google searches and have high SEO, the majority of the traffic of these news sources are going to be from people seeking to learn more about the topic at hand. A few crypto news sources I personally recommend are the colorful thumbnails of Cointelegraph, the deep analysis of Decrypt, and even the classic Coindesk. Reading directly from crypto news as best as they are written by people well-educated in the crypto space as opposes to mainstream sources that gloss over the important information and do not hold an intuitive understanding of the culture nor space.\nThere are of course more and prevalent news sources in the crypto space as well so don’t just limit your scope to these few! If you find keeping up with the news as a whole to be a cumbersome task, you may also prefer the condensed version that flows through like with Unfolded.\n\n# 2. Social Media Sites\n\nNow I first decided to group the following sites, but I took a moment to reconsider after I reanalyze just how the crypto community operates differently on each. I know what you are asking yourself, what makes one platform different from another? Well … let me explain by starting with the most popular choice in the space.\n\n\n**Twitter —** The Twitter cryptocurrency community is the most active, most interesting, and has the most engagement. Just look up #CryptoTwitter and see all the fun that you are missing out on. You don’t have to follow a structured medium to deliver your thoughts. Your posts are bite-sized and quick. Most of the posts on there is a passing glance, but say the right or the wrong thing and be prepared for a thought-provoking discussion. Twitter has been a place where most of the crypto community came to find both successes and one of the most effective ways to broadcast their content. If you want to capture a snippet of how the culture is feeling, then Twitter is the go-to place! Many assume it is due to the company’s openness towards its crypto positive attitude and Jack Dorsey's personal interest in offering cryptocurrency services through Twitter’s other child companies like Cash App or Square Crypto (soon to launch).\nSide note: Twitter is responsible for nearly 50% of web traffic for crypto businesses. This was a fantastic and comprehensive study done by the growth-hacker. I highly recommend it.\n\n\n**Reddit —** Next up we have Reddit. I have a love/hate relationship with the platform. Redditors [Cryptocurrency-related subreddits] can either be very supportive or very critical (which is good in some instances). Reddit is a great place for discussions, presenting a major concern, validation of ideas, or quite simply just asking questions. Where Twitter thrives in understanding the thoughts and feelings behind the community, Redditors usually present an idea to a community and the community comes together to discuss it. I love this as it allows for more people to get exposure, and more concerns are addressed swiftly. You can also find a lot of mindless memes going on here as well. But through the depths of it, you can find great conversations that will further enlighten you. So I recommend coming to Reddit to ask your questions, and aid in your crypto research.\nSome of my favorite cryptocurrency subreddits:\nr/Bitcoin, r/Cryptocurrency, r/Ethereum, r/EthTrader\nand a few other crypto projects subreddits like r/UniSwap.\n\n\n**Instagram —** the Instagram crypto community is not as prominent as one would believe. I believe that the cryptocurrency scene on Instagram is mainly dominated by short and simple crypto-infographics or people who have crypto in their bio only because they trade Forex. I believe it’s actually something Facebook had did to de-rank cryptocurrency content during the 2017 -2018 ICO craze which hurt the platform when it came to crypto content. Over the years there have been better treatment to the crypto community on Instagram, and in the future, I believe that can change for the better. So if you want to learn about crypto in sporadic digestible bites or the concept of trading the same top 20 coins, then that’s crypto Instagram for you.\nImage for post\n\n**Youtube —** Lastly you have the Youtube community which I find the most interesting. Crypto creators found themselves being de-ranked and kicked off the platform for just creating cryptocurrency content. Outside of that, the kind of value you can find from Youtube are some hidden gems. Most of the content is well… just the news with a twist. My favorite channel I been watching since 2018 that actually inspired me to further pursue a career in cryptocurrency actually has been Dapp University! I was even featured in a few of his videos. So Youtube is definitely a great place to get a walkthrough explanation of any content you find in the crypto space.\n\nMy tinfoil hat thoughts: Since cryptocurrency and blockchain technology brings disruption to both the financial and technological industries, I feel that Facebook and Google felt absolutely threaten about their capabilities and tried to restrict it’s growth until it could find a way to either combat blockchain tech or get an advantage above it.\n\nTL;DR:\nTwitter to understand the culture\n\nReddit to discover new ideas, and engage in discussions\n\nInstagram to learn complex topics in short bites, or learn how to trade\n\nYoutube to take a guide on complex topics or get a better understanding behind a news event.\n\n# 3. Chat Apps\n\nLastly and my personal favorite place to learn about crypto or what’s happening in the space is no other than using chat apps. When it comes to chat apps in the crypto space there are really only two options that dominate the community to the point it is in the meta to have these two. Those are Discord and Telegram. I love these two for the sole purpose they make it easier to communicate and read about how the community feels. Unlike Twitter, Youtube, and Instagram where you have to follow someone, chat apps give the most fluid form of discussion from “real people”. Your Alice, Bobs’ and Charlies. If I have a specific question that I can’t find nor have the patience to Google myself, I will ask the community through a chat app. If you have an investment in a certain project then it’s a good idea to reach out to the community leaders to ask about their project. This also helps projects delegate efficiently as opposed to having all messages be generated in one long log.\n\n\nTelegram — Telegram for the most part is a typical chat app, but has a much more of a simplistic approach. All chats are feed and generated in one singular group. The great thing about it where most people usually expect 10–50 people in a group chat, telegram allows for the capacity for 100’s of thousands. Yeah insane, although the platform chats aren’t as organized as Discord, it’s is just as important for the crypto community to meet and converse\nImage for post\n\nLast and certainly not least… me! Most of these are investor related and does not require a special set of skills (other than market analysis and basic cryptocurrency literacy ).\n\nTrading\n\nYes, I'm sure your social media is filled with these \"gurus\" who sell trading courses on cryptocurrency, but beyond them scamming you, this is perhaps the most common demographic in crypto space. Majority of initial investors have backed out due to non-belief, or they have lost too much due to FOMO in December 2017. Some of these traders invest in any currency they can receive a sizable profit percentage wise. Although markets are back around the prices they were before August 2017, the massive gold rush mentality around crypto has paved the way for ICO's to grow and proceed to make their ideas come alive! My favorite is peer-to-peer trading oppose to trading centrally like Binance or Coinbase. This method of trading maintains the decentralized philosophy of cryptocurrency. In the early days, mining took little computational power for the gain of so many coins. Granted they were not worth $4000 as they are today. With 17 million BTC mined and the block reward halving every 4 years, for a time, mining was a profitable avenue for generating funds in crypto space. It got to the point, mining operations began to become centralized with mining pools and scammers setting up bots to give user's the illusion they are earning a lot when in reality, not much value is being produced. As more users join the network, mining is not as profitable as it used to be, and miners have to sell off most of their currency to pay for energy cost. It's less of earning crypto and more of locking away assets. Cryptocurrency is considered less of \"currency\" and more money. Currency in the sense it's the representation of a value used in medium exchange, while money is the store of value for medium exchange. The hodl method is viewing cryptocurrency as an asset like gold, art, or real estate. This distinction in attitude brought the rise of coins vs. tokens.\n\nI personally think this is a problem in the cryptocurrency community. The \"Hodling\" of coins for long-term gain when your BTC will be worth enough to buy a Lamborghini is a strategy, but without an actual incentive for use of the currency than it simply just dies. This is a reason why XRP rose to the number two spot. Well, ICO (Initial Coin Offering) is similar to stock market's IPO (Initial Public Offering) for companies. Tokenizing is usually referred to owning a decentralized currency that you can use a form of payment, or store of an asset for a project built by an entity. From 2016 - Today, there have been numerous currencies launching ICO, with around 2000 listed on exchanges and excluding those private ones built by individuals for test purposes. With an introduction to Ethereum and Vitalik (Badass name by the way), it made it seamless for developers wanting to build ICO's and launch projects surrounding a goal. Many have failed while there are so many out of the ICO stage and into the development stage.\n\nInvesting in an ICO is extremely risky on the account it's not regulated and the chances of you receiving your funds are low. However, they can be extremely profitable when it launches to the public. The FED, Banks, and SEC has placed heavy restrictions on ICO's due to scam practices by illegitimate companies. However, unlike mining where you just need a computer, some blockchains place a barrier onto the requirements of a master node to ensure there's little room for errors, corruption, and discrepancies. This is what's called an entry barrier. Entry Barriers is what one needs to own or collect a certain amount of units of that particular cryptocurrency to input into running a masternode. Unlike Bitcoin's blockchain that works off proof-of-work, in laymen terms \"mining\", Masternode is proof-of-stake, which Ethereum blockchain operates off of.\n\nThis motivates the masternode owner not to cheat or corrupt the system. In the event something faulty occurs on the by Masternode accord, they are ejected from the system and their Entry Barrier will be out of their possession and ownership.\n\nThis can be profitable for long-term investments because the factor is less on earning cash then, and generate \"passive income overtime\". Some cryptocurrency algorithms payout daily, weekly, or monthly interest for running a masternode. The fiat equivalent of this would be a high yield savings account.       "body": "![14.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmTzRVmX4g2UyYHw1iCgVYJburxiDz5pMEzH5ecFfBhAzL/14.png)\n\nI have taken a recent interest in Zero-Knowledge Proof technology and what I have stumbled across was the cryptocurrency called Zcash!\n\nNow I may be a little late to this, but there were so much hype around cryptocurrency on the monetary gain and long-term wealth security, we almost forget about what makes this the technology so threating to centralized systems and how it can revolutionize the way we operate.\n\nZcash is known in the crypto space as being the privacy-protecting currency for transactions. This coin runs off the technology called zk-SNARKS which is an incorporation of the zero-knowledge proof idea in cryptography. That two parties can trade a medium exchange or specific data without revealing sensitive information other than the information that parties present are true. This project has been built from computer scientist from some of the top Ivy League Universities such as MIT, Technion, Johns Hopkins, Tel Aviv University and UC Berkeley just to name a few.\n\nCryptocurrencies already enforce the idea of privacy in trading. Bitcoin’s, for example, transactions are validated by linking the sender’s and receiver’s address to match the amount sent from A to B. Zcash’s zk-SNARK (Zero-Knowledge Succinct Non-Interactive Argument of Knowledge) sets itself unique from these protocols. zk-SNARK is their system to provide a proof of possession without crucial information about the sender or receiver being revealed in mid-transaction.\n\nThe conditions that must be met are:\n\n- the input values adds to the output values for each shielded transfer.\n\n- the sender proves they possess the private keys of the funds sent, giving them the authority to spend.\n\n- The private keys of the funds sent are encrypted and linked to a signature over the whole transaction, in such a way that the transaction cannot be modified by a party who did not know these private keys of received or sent addresses.\n\nThere are multiple applications and usage for zk-SNARK’s technology for the decentralized and centralized application.       "body": "![14.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmTzRVmX4g2UyYHw1iCgVYJburxiDz5pMEzH5ecFfBhAzL/14.png)\n\nI have taken a recent interest in Zero-Knowledge Proof technology and what I have stumbled across was the cryptocurrency called Zcash!\n\nNow I may be a little late to this, but there were so much hype around cryptocurrency on the monetary gain and long-term wealth security, we almost forget about what makes this the technology so threating to centralized systems and how it can revolutionize the way we operate.\n\nZcash is known in the crypto space as being the privacy-protecting currency for transactions. This coin runs off the technology called zk-SNARKS which is an incorporation of the zero-knowledge proof idea in cryptography. That two parties can trade a medium exchange or specific data without revealing sensitive information other than the information that parties present are true. This project has been built from computer scientist from some of the top Ivy League Universities such as MIT, Technion, Johns Hopkins, Tel Aviv University and UC Berkeley just to name a few.\n\nCryptocurrencies already enforce the idea of privacy in trading. Bitcoin’s, for example, transactions are validated by linking the sender’s and receiver’s address to match the amount sent from A to B. Zcash’s zk-SNARK (Zero-Knowledge Succinct Non-Interactive Argument of Knowledge) sets itself unique from these protocols. zk-SNARK is their system to provide a proof of possession without crucial information about the sender or receiver being revealed in mid-transaction.\n\nThe conditions that must be met are:\n\n- the input values adds to the output values for each shielded transfer.\n\n- the sender proves they possess the private keys of the funds sent, giving them the authority to spend.\n\n- The private keys of the funds sent are encrypted and linked to a signature over the whole transaction, in such a way that the transaction cannot be modified by a party who did not know these private keys of received or sent addresses.\n\nThere are multiple applications and usage for zk-SNARK’s technology for the decentralized and centralized application.
