They were all victims to 51% attack - the biggest accepted vulnerability in blockchain. Right from bitcoin's whitepaper people have known about it. But it was largely thought of as something hypothetical since it requires the attacker to have more than half the network's computing power.Recent advancements,especially in development of Application Specific Integrated Circuits(ASICs) has made it easy for people to gain access to large amount of hashing power from providers like NiceHash.\n\nSomeone has even created a list of cost required to do a 51% attack on different blockchain using [NiceHash](https://www.nicehash.com/). Although bit oversimplified but [it](https://www.crypto51.app/) gives you the idea.\n\nBut before we go into how these events will affect the direction of development of new financial order, let me just formally describe a 51% attack,if you know what it is,feel free to skip to next paragraph.\nBitcoin and all other cryptocurrencies rely on some algorithm to reach an agreement among the nodes.These agreement forming mechanism or consensus algorithm are commonly Proof of Work or Proof of Stake with different variants (some can be completely different). That means that there are some rules that each node in the decentralized network trust and mostly they work correctly. For example,in PoW, miners constantly compete to solve the transaction data and existing blockchain information to obtain a nonce that  completes the block which is then added to the blockchain in that node and updated blockchain is published to the network. However it may so happen that two nodes (with significant distance between them) simultaneously create two blocks. In such cases the blockchain is said to be forked. These are places where consensus algorithms have most important roles to play. In the most common approach the forks are allowed to happen and it is the longest chain that is selected. In the scenario where a malicious node has obtained gained a significant fraction of the network's entire computing power then it is able to create long chains of blocks and it is his blockchain that is going to be accepted, effectively giving him the limited(because still he can change only his transactions) control over the blockchain. So what happened in recent attacks is( Except Verge,which is story for another day) the attacker sent currency A to exchange on fork1 of the blockchain of A( fork1 is the accepted fork)  then he exchanges currency A for currency B ,then he starts using fork2(in which he never sent A to the exchange) to mine the currency A,soon as he has more mining power than rest of the network,it is his blockchain that get accepted. In the end he has now both A and B.\n\nThis is a problem that even Satoshi Nakamoto knew about but this was the design cost of the implementation of the bitcoin).However there are few solutions that could be implemented.\n\nPossible solutions according to me:\n\n1. Already implemented, increasing the number of confirmations to accept a transaction (to be implemented by Exchange)\n2. Saving data from one vulnerable blockchain into a well established blockchain like Bitcoin or Ethereum and using that confirmation as part of consensus.(implemented into consensus algorithm )\n3. Security measures when a fork occurs.(p2p layer of the blockchain)\n4. Centralisation,like in Ripple\n\nThese attacks are frightening not in the sense that exchanges may incur losses or people may get cheated but this shows that its no longer the same arena which was nurturing and supportive to newer technological solutions. But now newer blockchains run the risk of losing public trust and maybe never growing into a success even if they are offering something substaintial.If amount of decentralization today is not enough there is no survival.\nIts the coming of maturity and a different phase in this space and everyone better be ready for it.",

      "body": "<html>\n<p>&nbsp;This is one of those questions we used to wonder in our childhoods and then slowly forgot about.This question kind of represents a part of us that is fascinated by this world and is always seeking what else it has to offer.</p>\n<p>We all love experiencing things that we are not used to experiencing.So before we ask the question whether magic is real or not i find that I do not really know what is supposed to be magic.In crudest( and somehow most accurate) of sense I think its just(!) an extraordinary event.While if we try to make the definition a bit more sophisticated then it we could say something that defies laws of sciences,physics to be precise.Now extraordinary is actually not that extraordinary.It encompasses things that are not allowed by physics and somethings that are allowed by physics but their probability is extremely low.Like theoretically since every molecule has random motion they could have a net momentum but the fact that they are random prohibits any overall momentum in something unless there is some force which is important otherwise this <strong>stable</strong> universe won't exist.</p>\n<p>So out of infinities that can happen in next moment there is only one that appears and then leads on to next one.Its like each and every moment has some algorithm for selecting the next moment out of the infinite moment.Now moment here is used strictly as unit of time.Now quantum theory suggest that there can be fact the smallest unit of time. Now in quantum physics Planck time is defined as minimum length of time that must be present between two connected events,although time itself being discrete has not been proved.So the idea that one moment selects the other doesn't seem to be that far fetched.</p>\n<p>Now as you may have noticed I emphasized on the word stable in the previous to previous paragraph because I think that is the key here.In old religious stories where we find mentions of \"miracles\" or \"magic\" and most of the time the events were necessary for the present to be what it is.Now maybe there will be events in future where it will be necessary or even in the present there are magical events happening that are necessary for the universe to exist in accordance with certain unknown rule .We as humans are mere spectators of these chains of events that too while being constantly governed by it.So does magic exists..?!Of course it does,we are mere observers of the game and we do not know the rules.There will come times when we see knew things we could never have anticipated and when our incomplete rule book will fail and then get revised like it has in the past.And each moment of everyday is governed by that unknown rule book.So each moment &nbsp;is magic which we have kind of figured out the method to some extent so it doesn't make us curious anymore and becomes ordinary.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>\n</html>",
