We then hosted the first ever Firesale on an ICO; and then, halfway through the pre-ICO period. We had to pause and restart the ICO on February 15th.\n\nSo, what happened?\nInexperience happened. In the UTEMIS Team we all have extensive experience in business, so creating the B2B platform, talking to customers, and launching the business is something that we have done before. But for all of us it is our first time conducting an ICO.\n\nUTEMIS is a Token that is very specialized in B2B e-commerce transactions. While adjusting its parameters we made two mistakes, the first one is not setting a fixed amount of decimals. The second one is accidentally removing the ‘transfer’ function of the Token.\n\nAs a result, current UTS Token holders now see the amount of Tokens they own distorted by decimals and, those that have tried, have noticed that they can’t send the Token anywhere, the Token is “stuck” in their wallets.\n\nHow we solved this: we couldn’t continue sending faulty Tokens. It would only make the problem bigger. So we decided to stop the ICO. Create a new Token with the same name and symbol and compensate all our previous ICO participants.\nOn that latter point, to apologize and to make amends for what happened we are giving every previous ICO participant a 100 percent bonus on their previous purchase, so if you own 1,000,000 UTS you will receive 2,000,000 UTS in the coming weeks.\n\nWhat happens with the previous Tokens? Once everyone has received the new tokens we will delete the smart contract of the previous ICO and the faulty Tokens will disappear from your wallet. Then that only telephone has a very limited value, regardless of the price. Now imagine that there are two, three, and then thousands of telephones, all priced at $1. The price of the phones hasn’t changed, but the value has increased exponentially, that’s a Network Effect. The classical company that leveraged very successfully network effects is WhatsApp.\n\nNow, does UTEMIS have Network Effects? Come to think of it, very strong ones. Once a company is in UTEMIS it wants to make sure that they can have access to all possible customers and to all possible suppliers, in the entire Latin American region. They want to make sure that they will not be stiffed and they want to know that the other companies are subjected to the same rules that they are. Why do we need that much?\nWe would love to tell you that we are building a super sophisticated technology that requires years of R&D and that is super complex and super awesome.\n\nBut no. The UTEMIS platform is a known problem. It does have uncertainty, but it is very manageable.\nWe would love to tell you that the UTEMIS organization is very complex and costly.\nBut again, no. The UTEMIS Organizational Design is again a well-known problem in Business Schools and we know well how to deal with it. Unfortunately, there is a not so sexy reason for raising 75k ETH in an ICO. We plan to hire the best (read: very expensive) salesforce.\n\nPeople often forget that the e-commerce giants that we all know and admire today were also really expensive to make. These were not affordable for the majority of people. The two largest e-commerce giants needed billions of dollars before they were profitable. Somehow people always forget that part of the story.\n\nPeople also forget that these billions of dollars went all to the same place. Salespeople. They hired the best salespeople they could find, and they hired thousands of them. We plan to do the same. We plan to hire over 1,000 salespeople in Latin America in 2018. That is where the uncertainty and the costs are, and therefore, that is were the money is going.\nPeople often forget that the world is full of unbelievably good technologies that are stored in shelves because nobody knows about them. We don’t plan to make that mistake. We know the lesson well. It’s sales and acquiring customers – and we are laser focused at that. Bandwagon effects happen when the value that a platform provides goes beyond the economic value to influence beliefs, ideas, fads or trends. For example, take the Android operating system, before the extensive use of mobile apps, people didn’t want Android because other people were using it, but instead, because it was an open architecture in a world where the other operating system, iOS, had a closed architecture.\n\nA bandwagon effect, makes people want to “jump on board” so to speak. UTEMIS gives people in Latin America access to markets that they wouldn’t have reached, with levels of trust between companies that would otherwise be really hard to achieve.
