[논문링크](http://www.pnas.org/content/early/2018/06/26/1719451115)\n\n![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmbi72SRvo7Y89NwGck1TJAnkGUFviHbxvA8GNvg6xAuws/image.png)\n\nCytomegalovirus (CMV)는 베타 허피스바이러스로 아주 일반적으로 많은 사람들에게 잠복 감염하고 있는 바이러스입니다. 북미 기준 50-80%에 이르는 성인들이 감염되어 있다고 보고 있습니다. 대학원 시절에 실험실 여학우들이 이 바이러스 테스트를 받았는데 모두 보균자였다. 비보균자는 이 바이러스를 가지고 하는 연구 프로젝트에서 제외하려고 했었나??? 가임기 여성의 경우 태아에 심각한 영향을 줄 수 있으니 이해감 (아래 증상 참고)  \n\n\nCyto (싸이토)는 세포를 의미하는 그리스어, megalo (메갈로)는 크고 거대하다는 의미로 바이러스가 거대하다는 의미가 아니라 바이러스가 감염된 숙주 세포의 크기가 커진다는 의미입니다. 물론 이 바이러스는 다른 바이러스들에 비해 크기가 큰 편에 속하기는 합니다. (credit: modification of work by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)\n\n마이엘로이드 계열의 골수 혈액 전구 세포(CD34+ myeloid progenitor cell)에 잠복 감염하며 건강한 사람에게는 별다른 증상을 보이지 않지만 다른 허피스 바이러스들이 그러하듯 면역력이 약해지면 재활성화 되어 심각한 병증을 일으킵니다(증상 참고).\n\n이 연구에서는 MCMV (mouse cytomegalovirus)를 사용했습니다. 사람에게 감염하는 HCMV는 실험 쥐에 감염하지 않기 때문에 보통 HCMV의 동물 실험은 MCMV를 이용해 실험용 쥐에서 연구를 수행합니다. 그러나 MCMV와 HCMV가 가까운 친척이긴 하지만 다른 부분도 많아서 MCMV의 연구 결과가 HCMV와 동일하게 나타나지 않는 경우도 많습니다.\n\n나이 든 쥐는 바이러스에 의해 쉽게 죽을 것으로 예상했습니다. 연구진은 젊은 쥐에게 MCMV를 감염 시켰고 절반 이상의 쥐가 늙어서도 이 바이러스를 지난 채 살았습니다. 잠복 감염에 성공적으로 진입한 것이겠지요. 많은 바이러스가 숙주 세포의 면역 시스템을 약화 시켜 바이러스의 생장에 유리한 환경을 만들고자 하기 때문에 이 연구팀도 이렇게 바이러스를 지니고 살아남은 쥐가 감염에 취약할 것으로 예상했습니다.\n\n그러나 결과는 언제나처럼 예상대로 나오지 않고.... 이 쥐들에게 다른 리스테리아와 같은 박테리아를 감염 시켰을때 MCMV를 지닌 늙은 쥐가 대조군인 늙은 쥐에 비해 생존률이 더 높았습니다. 잔병치레가 많으면 면역력이 높아 큰병에 안걸린다는 얘기가 맞는건지도\n\n실험군과 대조군에서 T-cell의 다양성은 비슷했습니다. 그러나 외부에서 새롭게 투입된 병원균에 대한 방어 능력은 HCMV를 지닌 실험군에서 더 높게 나타났습니다. 왜 이런 경향을 보이는지에 대한 분자 생물학적 메커니즘은 보여주지 않았습니다만, 잠복 감염한 바이러스가 후천성 면역(adaptive immunity)을 증강 시켜 숙주의 방어 시스템을 건강하게 만들 수 있다는 새로운 페러다임을 제시했다는 의미가 있습니다. \n\n__증상__\n(www.msdmanuals.com 인용)\n\nCMV에 감염된 대부분의 사람들에게 아무런 증상들이 나타나지 않습니다. 일부 감염된 사람들은 아프다고 느끼고 발열이 나타납니다. 청소년 및 청년들에게 발생한 CMV 감염은 감염단핵구증과 유사한 발열 및 피로 증상과 함께 질병을 유발할 수 있습니다. 만일 CMV로 오염된 혈액을 수혈받으면, 발열 및 때때로 간 염증이 2~4주 후에 나타나기 시작합니다. 만일 심하게 면역체계가 약해진 사람이 CMV에 감염된 경우에는, 감염이 더 심해질 수 있고 때때로 심한 질병 또는 사망으로 이어질 수 있습니다. AIDS에 감염된 사람들의 경우, CMV 감염은 일반적인 바이러스성 합병증입니다.       "body": "나이가 들면 면역 체계가 약해지며 바이러스나 세균의 외부 공격에 쉽게 무너지기 마련입니다. 하지만 바이러스 감염이 노년의 면역 체계를 다시 강하게 만들어주는 긍정적 효과가 있을 것이라는 보고가 PNAS에 실렸습니다. [논문링크](http://www.pnas.org/content/early/2018/06/26/1719451115)\n\n![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmbi72SRvo7Y89NwGck1TJAnkGUFviHbxvA8GNvg6xAuws/image.png)\n\nCytomegalovirus (CMV)는 베타 허피스바이러스로 아주 일반적으로 많은 사람들에게 잠복 감염하고 있는 바이러스입니다. 북미 기준 50-80%에 이르는 성인들이 감염되어 있다고 보고 있습니다. 대학원 시절에 실험실 여학우들이 이 바이러스 테스트를 받았는데 모두 보균자였다. 비보균자는 이 바이러스를 가지고 하는 연구 프로젝트에서 제외하려고 했었나??? 가임기 여성의 경우 태아에 심각한 영향을 줄 수 있으니 이해감 (아래 증상 참고)  \n\n\nCyto (싸이토)는 세포를 의미하는 그리스어, megalo (메갈로)는 크고 거대하다는 의미로 바이러스가 거대하다는 의미가 아니라 바이러스가 감염된 숙주 세포의 크기가 커진다는 의미입니다. 물론 이 바이러스는 다른 바이러스들에 비해 크기가 큰 편에 속하기는 합니다. (credit: modification of work by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)\n\n마이엘로이드 계열의 골수 혈액 전구 세포(CD34+ myeloid progenitor cell)에 잠복 감염하며 건강한 사람에게는 별다른 증상을 보이지 않지만 다른 허피스 바이러스들이 그러하듯 면역력이 약해지면 재활성화 되어 심각한 병증을 일으킵니다(증상 참고).\n\n이 연구에서는 MCMV (mouse cytomegalovirus)를 사용했습니다. 사람에게 감염하는 HCMV는 실험 쥐에 감염하지 않기 때문에 보통 HCMV의 동물 실험은 MCMV를 이용해 실험용 쥐에서 연구를 수행합니다. 그러나 MCMV와 HCMV가 가까운 친척이긴 하지만 다른 부분도 많아서 MCMV의 연구 결과가 HCMV와 동일하게 나타나지 않는 경우도 많습니다.\n\n나이 든 쥐는 바이러스에 의해 쉽게 죽을 것으로 예상했습니다. 연구진은 젊은 쥐에게 MCMV를 감염 시켰고 절반 이상의 쥐가 늙어서도 이 바이러스를 지난 채 살았습니다. 잠복 감염에 성공적으로 진입한 것이겠지요. 많은 바이러스가 숙주 세포의 면역 시스템을 약화 시켜 바이러스의 생장에 유리한 환경을 만들고자 하기 때문에 이 연구팀도 이렇게 바이러스를 지니고 살아남은 쥐가 감염에 취약할 것으로 예상했습니다.\n\n그러나 결과는 언제나처럼 예상대로 나오지 않고.... 이 쥐들에게 다른 리스테리아와 같은 박테리아를 감염 시켰을때 MCMV를 지닌 늙은 쥐가 대조군인 늙은 쥐에 비해 생존률이 더 높았습니다. 잔병치레가 많으면 면역력이 높아 큰병에 안걸린다는 얘기가 맞는건지도\n\n실험군과 대조군에서 T-cell의 다양성은 비슷했습니다. 그러나 외부에서 새롭게 투입된 병원균에 대한 방어 능력은 HCMV를 지닌 실험군에서 더 높게 나타났습니다. 왜 이런 경향을 보이는지에 대한 분자 생물학적 메커니즘은 보여주지 않았습니다만, 잠복 감염한 바이러스가 후천성 면역(adaptive immunity)을 증강 시켜 숙주의 방어 시스템을 건강하게 만들 수 있다는 새로운 페러다임을 제시했다는 의미가 있습니다. \n\n__증상__\n(www.msdmanuals.com 인용)\n\nCMV에 감염된 대부분의 사람들에게 아무런 증상들이 나타나지 않습니다. 일부 감염된 사람들은 아프다고 느끼고 발열이 나타납니다. 청소년 및 청년들에게 발생한 CMV 감염은 감염단핵구증과 유사한 발열 및 피로 증상과 함께 질병을 유발할 수 있습니다. 만일 CMV로 오염된 혈액을 수혈받으면, 발열 및 때때로 간 염증이 2~4주 후에 나타나기 시작합니다. 만일 심하게 면역체계가 약해진 사람이 CMV에 감염된 경우에는, 감염이 더 심해질 수 있고 때때로 심한 질병 또는 사망으로 이어질 수 있습니다. AIDS에 감염된 사람들의 경우, CMV 감염은 일반적인 바이러스성 합병증입니다.
