| title | Open Source Ecology Wants to Help You Build a Bulldozer (and Car, and House, and CNC Torch Table...) |
| body | What if you could build your own car for a fraction of the price? That's one of the many things open source ecology wants to help you do. One of the most exciting new developments in open source anything is a project called Open Source Ecology and their ongoing project for several years now, the Global Village Construction Set. Open source simply means technology that isn’t copyrighted and is free for everyone to use in any way they desire. This means you can use their designs, blueprints and processes any way you like - even if that involves creating these machines and selling them for money. It's totally fine! They're not copyrighted! The main difference between most open source products (like Wordpress and Mozilla Firefox) and the Global Village Construction Set is that most open source products are information-only, meaning there is no physical end-product that you can actually touch once all is said and done. Open Source Water Filtration System: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNEhZ9JpB8I However, the end goal of the Global Village Construction Set is to provide the blueprints for and help you build an actual series of real-life, community-building tools, that also happen to be currently mass-produced and sold for huge profits by many other companies around the world. They're taking this idea to the next level by giving people the opportunity to manufacture, produce, and even sell these items themselves – by giving them the skills and information necessary – at a fraction of the cost. It's basically legos on steroids, except you just have to go out and get your own lego pieces instead of buying them from the lego company. (However I think you can buy some of the parts from Open Source Ecology, also) To Build A Village - Open Source Ecology https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nV_-ZzYmo3A One of the most exciting goals of this project is that this will enable many more people and communities around the globe to not only have access to these machines, but to make a living producing and selling them in places that they couldn’t have done before this type of technological system was introduced. They will be able to help themselves and their communities by build actual machines and structures, and well as many, many other things that these machines are capable of manufacturing. Ultimately, these tools will help them produce almost anything they want. They can also have revenue from building these machines for a fraction of the cost of what you would buy them for commercially and then reselling them as well. There are so many possibilities... the potential here will be life-changing for many individuals. https://www.opensourceecology.org/marcin-jakubowski/# Open Source Ecology was founded in 2003 by Marcin Jakubowski Ph.D. His goal was (and still is) literally to “create a life size LEGO set of powerful, self-replicating production tools – that can decentralized production – to build modern prosperity in local economies.” In his own words, he “believes that true freedom – the most essential type of freedom – starts with peoples’ individual ability to use natural resources to free themselves from material constraints – to unleash human potential.” And so the "Factor E Farm" was born, which develops and tests these concepts from it’s location in rural Mississippi. So far (as of 2014, according to their website and Wikipedia) “twelve of the fifty machines have been designed, blueprinted, and prototyped, with four of those reaching the documentation stage.” Here's a video for the 3D Printer Workshop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98NOaWrOV-c There are 50 machines total that they are planning on building, so we are eagerly awaiting to see how it all turns out. Each tool they make in turn helps them make more tools. So eventually, they are building quite complex machines such as 3D printers, CNC Torch Tables, Plasma Cutters, Backhoes and much more. Just take a look at the list below to see some of the projects. Feel free to visit the site to see the latest progress, and even a breakdown of the costs to build the machines yourself vs what it would cost to buy the regular commercial version: https://www.opensourceecology.org/gvcs/ Here's a detailed list of all the machines they're building: https://www.opensourceecology.org/gvcs/gvcs-machine-index/ And if you really like it you can get involved and help out: https://www.opensourceecology.org/community/ |

"title": "Open Source Ecology Wants to Help You Build Your Own Bulldozer (and Car, and House, and CNC Torch Table...)",
"body": "\n\nWhat if you could build your own car for a fraction of the price? That's one of the many things open source ecology wants to help you do.\n\nOne of the most exciting new developments in open source anything is a project called Open Source Ecology and their ongoing project for several years now, the Global Village Construction Set.\n\nOpen source simply means technology that isn’t copyrighted and is free for everyone to use in any way they desire. This means you can use their designs, blueprints and processes any way you like - even if that involves creating these machines and selling them for money. It's totally fine! They're not copyrighted!\n\nThe main difference between most open source products (like Wordpress and Mozilla Firefox) and the Global Village Construction Set is that most open source products are information-only, meaning there is no physical end-product that you can actually touch once all is said and done.\n\nOpen Source Water Filtration System:\n\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNEhZ9JpB8I\n\nHowever, the end goal of the Global Village Construction Set is to provide the blueprints for and help you build an actual series of real-life, community-building tools, that also happen to be currently mass-produced and sold for huge profits by many other companies around the world. (However I think you can buy some of the parts from Open Source Ecology, also)\n\nTo Build A Village - Open Source Ecology\n\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nV_-ZzYmo3A\n\nOne of the most exciting goals of this project is that this will enable many more people and communities around the globe to not only have access to these machines, but to make a living producing and selling them in places that they couldn’t have done before this type of technological system was introduced.\n\nThey will be able to help themselves and their communities by build actual machines and structures, and well as many, many other things that these machines are capable of manufacturing. Ultimately, these tools will help them produce almost anything they want. They can also have revenue from building these machines for a fraction of the cost of what you would buy them for commercially and then reselling them as well. There are so many possibilities... the potential here will be life-changing for many individuals.\n\n\n\nhttps://www.opensourceecology.org/marcin-jakubowski/#\n\nOpen Source Ecology was founded in 2003 by Marcin Jakubowski Ph.D. His goal was (and still is) literally to “create a life size LEGO set of powerful, self-replicating production tools – that can decentralized production – to build modern prosperity in local economies.”\n\nIn his own words, he “believes that true freedom – the most essential type of freedom – starts with peoples’ individual ability to use natural resources to free themselves from material constraints – to unleash human potential.”\n\nAnd so the \"Factor E Farm\" was born, which develops and tests these concepts from it’s location in rural Mississippi.\n\nSo far (as of 2014, according to their website and Wikipedia) “twelve of the fifty machines have been designed, blueprinted, and prototyped, with four of those reaching the documentation stage.”\n\nHere's a video for the 3D Printer Workshop:\n\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98NOaWrOV-c\n\nThere are 50 machines total that they are planning on building, so we are eagerly awaiting to see how it all turns out. Each tool they make in turn helps them make more tools. So eventually, they are building quite complex machines such as 3D printers, CNC Torch Tables, Plasma Cutters, Backhoes and much more. Just take a look at the list below to see some of the projects.\n\n\n\n\n\nFeel free to visit the site to see the latest progress, and even a breakdown of the costs to build the machines yourself vs what it would cost to buy the regular commercial version:\nhttps://www.opensourceecology.org/gvcs/\n\nHere's a detailed list of all the machines they're building:\nhttps://www.opensourceecology.org/gvcs/gvcs-machine-index/\n\nAnd if you really like it you can get involved and help out:\nhttps://www.opensourceecology.org/community/",

| title | How To Help Yourself By Helping Others In 2018 |
| body | I know it doesn't really have much to do with the topic, bu I just thought I'd share our crazy Christmas tree pic from the San Deigo Zoo the other day. How To Help Yourself By Helping Others In 2018 Again and again in my life it becomes apparent that the most important thing that I could possibly do, or achieve, or strive for these days is good meaningful human connection. There's nothing more in this world that means more to me than truly connecting with somebody. Reaching out and sharing something with them that's truly deep and meaningful. And if there's one thing that I can do is to try to add value to other people's lives. I think just about everybody can connect with that. I think if there's one thing that everybody want is to be included in some sort of community. To thrive. To know that other people actually care about them. And that's why I find steam it kind of interesting because, in a sense, Steemit is really doing that far more than most other avenues of the internet are these days. And if there's one thing that I'd like to share with you it's various ways that I've found to improve my life. Now I don't claim to be some sort of master at this or anything, but I have been around a little bit here and there. I learned how to quit drinking and quit some of my addictions, I've learned how to be a bit more confident in some of the things that I do on a daily basis. I've learned to focus a bit more on the things that are more important to me, and leave behind some of the other things that I can do without. Just this one practice in particular his brought me much further in life than I thought possible. On a daily basis now I wake up and I think about all the things that I can contribute two other people, to various communities, to the world in general. And if there's one thing I'd like to do it would be to devote myself to helping other people. So here's how I plan on doing that, at least to a degree for right now, and if you'd like to follow along with something like this, maybe it'll be some sort of inspiration for you as well. At least that's what I could hope for. So I'm going to do my best to learn as much as I can about my life and improve myself, and then I'm going to relate that information on to you guys. By doing so I hope I can offer some value to people and even if I can just help one or two people live a slightly better life then I think my efforts have been worthwhile. So today's topic is how to help other people, and help yourself at the same time See, when you help other people, even when you're doing it out of complete devotion to that other person and utter selflessness in the truest aspect of the sense, there is still an aspect of doing it for yourself. That's because when you help other people you are gaining something from it as well. You're actually gaining several things. For one, you're gaining happiness. And when you're happy, life just goes better in general. When you're happy you get more accomplished, you're more productive, you're healthier, you think clear, you're more optimistic, things just seem to start going your way. Not only that, when you help other people you boost your own self confidence. That's because when you help other people you actually feel like you have something to offer them - and in reality, you do. You're a beautiful person, a beautiful human being, and each and every single person in this world can offer something to someone else. The more you realize that, the more comfortable in your own skin you're going to become. Also, there's no sense in going around everyday moping about all your problems, because the more you do that the more you're going too well on those problems. And the more you dwell on those problems the bigger they're going to get. I used to do that a lot, and if there’s one thing in this new year that I’m resolving to do, it’s complain less, and do more about the things I want to change in my own life. I think the best possible thing you can do is to forget about your problems and proactively work on things that are going to improve your life and the lives of those around you. Everybody has problems but there's really not much of a sense in complaining about it. I know everybody's heard that before, but in reality I think it's far more important than most people give it credit for. And this isn't just some positive self-talk mumbo jumbo, this is actually doing what you can and being as productive and proactive as possible in your life. The more you reinforce those brain pathways that are telling your brain that you can't do something, the more your brain is going to think that you can't. And the more you reinforce the pathways that say you can do something, the more your brain is really going to start to recognize it's extremely powerful, That you are a very capable person of doing just about anything that you want to do. So if there's one thing I'm doing in my life it's to try to help other people right now, and I'm doing that by trying to help myself at the same time and then relating that information to other people. And I think the more we can all do that and help each other the more we all really gain. This isn't some competition between all of us. The world is a lot smaller than we think, and in reality we all work together. We're all huddled in this little spaceship earth with one another, and the more we can recognize that the more we contribute to each other's success, the more we're really contributing to our own success as well, and the more we’re all going to get out of life. So that's why I'd like to begin today in my quest to help others through this platform here on Steemit. that's going to be my main focus of my blog posts here from now on. I’m shooting for at least one a day, on various topics about how to live life to its fullest potential. And I hope in doing so I can contribute some value to you, and help both you and myself out in the process. So that's it for now. I've got a lot of other things that I'm going to go over in the near future, it's just a matter of cataloging them and really thinking about what I want to say about all these different subjects. But there's definitely more to come soon, so I hope you stay tuned, and I'll see all you out there. Happy New Year, have a wonderful 2018! |

| title | Back To Work! |
| body | Ok, so I'm going to make it a point to give a little update every day on here. This will almost be like a little personal journal, and something to work on my writing skillz as well, as I'm starting to write a book for the moneylesssociety.com project. Yay! I'm excited! I've also decided to go back to school starting next month as well and take a class or two, probably english. And now my baby is 4 months old, I've been sober for 4 months, and quit smoking cigarettes for two months. I think it took a little while for it to actually set in... the baby and all that is. But now I've changed quite a few things in my life and I'm feeling really good about myself. I've also invested a little money ina few cryptocurrencies lately, so that should be interesting. Hopefully they can at least hold their value over the long term and not go to zero anytime soon. I suppose that's the best we can hope for! Actually, it would be kinda nice if some of these things would go to the moon, but I'm not putting all my eggs in that basket, for sure. I ended up losing almost 40 lbs initially when I quit drinking, but since I've quit smoking I've gained about half of that back. I'm not too terribly worried about it though, because I know I can get back on a decent diet and exercise and a good portion of that will come off again pretty soon. Anyway, here's a little pic of the fam, and I'll see you guys again tomorrow! [Family.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmV8pcAC9LxvXUduhEKxsMLvj9HzUCLpferq7J8KYG8NiG/Family.JPG) |

| body | Great post. Sounds pretty much like the diet I was on for a long while... Ketogenic. I'm now a Keto-vegan, and I cut out meats entirely. Works great, I feel more energetic I am an ideal weight. It really is much healthier, although I find the healthier one eats, the more expensive it is. If I ate fast foods etc I would save so much money!.... but health wise it is worth paying the extra. You can't put a price on health. |

| title | UPDATE #1 - DAY 15 - I'VE LOST 13 LBS AND HAVE BECOME A FAT BURNING MACHINE |
| body | Ok, so I know it took me a little while for my first update. I plan on definitely not waiting so long for the next one. In fact, my goal is to post an udate every day from now on. Since my initial post of me declaring that I was quitting drinking, I actually did quit drinking for about two weeks, but I wasn't committed to eating healthy or exercising and subsequently started drinking again for a brief little period there, but now I'm on tthe wagon again for two weeks, and I feel great this time around. I officially quit drinking on Sunday, September 3rd. My last drink was the night before. As of right now I weigh roughly 202 lbs. I was hovering right around 215 when I started. I think I might have lost another pound or two if I hadn't messed up my back on monday and spent the majority of the last week laying on the couch, alternating ice and heating pads, trying to heal my back. But that's another story... If you can tell in the pic I'm leaning a bit to one side. That's because I can't quite stand up straight at the moment due to a pinched nerve. Not too much fun. Trying to heal that as well. I'll keep you posted... I know I probably look kinda angry in the photo, but I'm not. Just kinda tired. I think I got like 4 hrs of sleep last night. We did just have a baby! Pics and more on that coming soon too! And excuse the mess in the bathroom. We're getting to that soon too haha! I'm still smoking cigarettes and marijuana at the moment. Not like right now as I write this, but in general, I mean... I really want to quit, especially because of the child we just had. It's pretty damn tough though. Cigs will be next. I know I said I was going to try to quit cigs and pot at the same time too, but it's just proven to be too much. I don't really want to get the superman syndrome again and try to do too much and then not do anything at all when I fail and it all comes crashing down. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. I'll take a few more steps in between this time. With that said though, I've actually been following a pretty strict diet. For those of you who know what a "Whole 30" diet is, it's pretty similar to that, except I'm also going low to very-low carb at the same time, to help eliminate sugar/alcohol cravings, which by the way has been working pretty darn well. In fact, I'm almost surprised by my lack of hunger. And not only that, what gets me is how great I actually feel while on this ridiculously restricted eating regemin I'm putting myself thtough. I'm feeling so good and seeing such fast results that its giving me more motivation to keep with it. So, for those of you who don't know what a "Whole 30" diet is, I'll briefly explain. It's basically an elimination diet of a sort, and by elimination I mean eliminating entire food groups for a period, and then reintroducing them slowly one at a time to see if you have any reactions to them. There are many different types of elimination diets, depending on what exactly you are eliminating and what you're allowed to eat and when, and they come in all shapes and sizes. The one I'm doing is relatively simple, though. It's just no dairy (including cheese & butter), no added sugar (although natural sugars are allowed to a degree), no grains (including breads, pastas, cereals, etc.), and no crazy chemicals or preservatives. And that's really about it. I might be missing one or two things there. I think legumes are also included in there as well. I'm not eating them anyway right now so I'm not really sure. If you're interested just google Whole 30 and I'm sure you'll find tons of info on the exact diet. But, in any case... It's not too difficult. Especially once you get rolling with it and start noticing some results. And what's there left to eat? Well... basically meat, eggs, veggies, and fruits. And natural fats, oils and vinegars, nuts and seeds and stuff like that... But our meals definitely aren't boring. Mt girlfriend happens to be a pretty darn good cook and is pretty creative in the kitchen so I'm blessed there. My meals would look a lot more boring than this if she wasn't around haha: Breakfast with two types of sausage, bacon and eggs, with raw sauerkraut and homemade pickles and pickled onions. Homemade meatballs with a veggie stir-fry using coconut aminos. That's home-made bone broth in the cup also, in case you're wondering. One of the most healing foods in the world. More on that to come in a later post, though. Bacon burger and zucchini cakes, both topped with a homemade aeoli. Tuna salad salad... with hardboiled egg, avocado, olives, and homemade vinaigrette (I think this one's pre-whole-30 - due to the cheese. But you get the idea. We're not depriving ourselves too much over here. We prefer to buy organic and grass fed or pasture raised meats when we can, and same with organic veggies, but sometimes the pocketbook isn't quite deep enough for that so we do the best we can in that department. However, for my weight loss/low-carb purposes, I've also eliminated most fruit and the higher-carb starchy vegetables from my diet as well, such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn (which might be eliminated already also). Every now and then I'll have a little slice of an apple, or this morning I had a sip of my girlfriends ridiculously tasty smoothie haha... but that's about it. Basically I'm trying to stay below 50g of carbs per day, which would be considered a very low carbohydrate diet so my body is forced to go into a state called ketosis and is forced to burn fat because it has run out of carbs. In order to maintain this state of ketosis, you have to continually monitor your carb intake and not go above a certain threshold that will make your body begin burning only the sugar that you just ate. This is a ketone test strip. It measures ketones in urine. As far as I understand, ketones are what is produced when your body is burning fat. Mad Ketosis. Notice how dark it is. Been in ketosis for almost two weeks now, about a week and a half has been like this. Longest stretch ever for me so far. Going to keep it going. My goal is one year in ketosis. It's a delicate little dance to do with your diet sometimes, but the results can be amazing. And it has tons of health benefits, also. I'm not going to get into all of them right now, maybe in a later post... I'm personally going very low carb because I've done this a couple times before and I'm somewhat experienced with it, and also because I like to see results in my body fast. If I'm going to do something, I'm going to do it all the way. That's kinda the type of person I just am. So, if you're tying to go low carb I'd recommend starting with a few more carbs. 50-100 would be basically regular low-carb, 100-150 would be the higher range. Anything above 150 for most people and you've kicked yourself out of ketosis and you are no longer burning fat as your primary fuel. What's really cool about being in ketosis is that it totally zaps your hunger because your body has a ready, steady, constantly flowing source of energy - your fat! Mealtime comes around and I'm not even hungry most of the time. Usually I eat anyway, and I'm glad I did because I do feel like I need to eat still, but it's not this cranky, hangry, stomach-wrenching hunger that I used to get before much of the time. It's just more like "Ah, I can feel my stomach is empty. It feels like I should put something in there, but I'm still ok if I don't." It's kind of an odd feeling. You'll have to experience it for yourself. Be aware though, it takes a little bit of time for your body to adjust to ketosis, if you're thinking of trying this. Not like you're really putting yourself in danger most of the time (however there are some specific conditions that ketosis can make worse, so if you're unsure please do your research. I'm definitely no doctor!) But, in any case, usually it takes your body about a week or two, maybe three to really start adapting to burning fat as it's primary fuel instead of sugar. I think the best comparison for it I've heard was this one: Imagine you have a factory that makes cars. Say these are some Chevy's being made off in Detroit somewhere (or maybe China now, who knows...). This factory making cars is like your body burning sugar. One day the manager comes in and says "Ok, tomorrow we're going to start making iPhones." You think that factory is going to churn out any iPhones on it's first day? Probably not. And the same goes with your body. If you're like 90% of people in western civilization (and possibly the world) your body primarily runs on sugar, and probably has for it's entire life, unless you've purposefully done something like this already and gone on some sort of a low-carb diet before. It just doesn't really happen by chance very often. Its something you have to do on purpose in this day and carb-crazy age. And while it may not take as long for your body to start running efficiently on ketones as it would take to swap out most of the machinery in a factory, it's the same sort of principle, and be aware that you might feel like crap and be tired as hell, cloudy, cranky, hungry, etc... for a couple weeks initially. And usually this will pass. If it doesn't, try increasing your carb intake a little. Some people do better with a bit fewer carbs than others. You may be a person that does better a few more carbs. I personally do pretty well on a low to very-low carb diet so far. I can't really speak from a long-term experience because the two weeks I've been in ketosis is the longest stint I've had in straight ketosis so far. But I actually feel pretty good now. It wasn't that way for the first few days. For the first few days I was pretty miserable too, and I just wanted to quit. I'm glad I've stuck with it this far though. I'm confident that I'll be able to do the whole "whole 30" - which is 30 days. After that I'll probably start reintroducing certain foods here and there to see how I react to them. I might stick with this diet even a bit longer though, however, also. It just kinda depends on how I'm feeling and how things have gone after the first 30 days is over. So we'll see. So that's it for me now. Thanks for reading and checking out how my eating/lifestyle change is going! I'm going to be posting many more updates on a daily basis with lots of useful tips and tricks that I've learned along the way so please check back soon! |

Say these are some Chevy's being made off in Detroit somewhere (or maybe China now, who knows...).\n\nThis factory making cars is like your body burning sugar.\n\nOne day the manager comes in and says \"Ok, tomorrow we're going to start making iPhones.\"\n\nYou think that factory is going to churn out any iPhones on it's first day?\n\nProbably not.\n\nAnd the same goes with your body.\n\nIf you're like 90% of people in western civilization (and possibly the world) your body primarily runs on sugar, and probably has for it's entire life, unless you've purposefully done something like this already and gone on some sort of a low-carb diet before. It just doesn't really happen by chance very often. Its something you have to do on purpose in this day and carb-crazy age.\n\nAnd while it may not take as long for your body to start running efficiently on ketones as it would take to swap out most of the machinery in a factory, it's the same sort of principle, and be aware that you might feel like crap and be tired as hell, cloudy, cranky, hungry, etc... for a couple weeks initially.\n\nAnd usually this will pass. If it doesn't, try increasing your carb intake a little. Some people do better with a bit fewer carbs than others. You may be a person that does better a few more carbs.\n\nI personally do pretty well on a low to very-low carb diet so far. I can't really speak from a long-term experience because the two weeks I've been in ketosis is the longest stint I've had in straight ketosis so far. But I actually feel pretty good now. It wasn't that way for the first few days.\n\nFor the first few days I was pretty miserable too, and I just wanted to quit.\n\nI'm glad I've stuck with it this far though. I'm confident that I'll be able to do the whole \"whole 30\" - which is 30 days. After that \n\nI'll probably start reintroducing certain foods here and there to see how I react to them.\n\nI might stick with this diet even a bit longer though, however, also. It just kinda depends on how I'm feeling and how things have gone after the first 30 days is over. So we'll see.\n\nSo that's it for me now. Thanks for reading and checking out how my eating/lifestyle change is going! I'm going to be posting many more updates on a daily basis with lots of useful tips and tricks that I've learned along the way so please check back soon!",

| body | Awesome post, Mr Pepper... Kinda reiterates what I already figured was the case, but solidifies my knowledge a bit and gives me some motivation to keep with this even though I know not much will probably come from it at first. Persistence is key though, and I have to commend you on your's, as well. Not many people have the dedication to stick with this like you have. Congrats on your current success here on steemit and thanks again for your contributions! I will put your advice to good use! |
