      "body": "I started this steemit blog to honour my father - a WWII hero and since the last time I posted he has since passed on - On Jan 12 2019 he breathed his final breath and left his world - In June 2019 I had the honour of fulfilling one of his requests and deliver his uniform and present it to Juno Beach Museum on Juno Beach France. We were supposed to go back again this year to dedicate his display but COVID shut that down and we have no idea if or when we will be going back. It was a pleasure to write about my father and currently I am working on writing his story and publishing a book. \n\nPrior to my father passing I lost my 31 year old daughter in November of 2018. She passed from a congenital heart defect she battled her whole life. My daughter was bibliophile who's appetite for books was enormous. Early in 2018 she asked me to do a business plan for her to buy and sell rare and antique books which I did but we never completed that dream due to her untimely passing.       "body": "I can't take credit for the writing as it was posted on the MMF site a long time ago - I found it through the little leafs on Ancestry found out it was a condensed version after reading the book I've posted in photos here - I only changed some wording to make it more personal since he is an ancestor of mine - I am however working on a book that will be my own writing about our family as I have learned more over the past months - I have broken up the research in different parts the first part I will travel in MB where my ancestors lived hoping to find more from local archives - and then once I have found everything in Manitoba I will go to Quebec and then overseas to Scotland and France to complete the work. I have so far received various documents about my ancestors (Birth certificates, death certificates, marriage licenses etc)",

DuLong about a person named Anne Couvent. \n\nAnne Couvent came to New France from Picardy with her husband Philippe Amiot and two sons, Jean and Mathieu, in 1636. A third child, Charles, was born in New France. In addition, her nephew, Toussaint Ledran, the son of Louis Ledran and Charlotte Couvent, also settled in New France. Many Canadians and Americans descend from one of the Couvent sisters and thus from royalty.\n\nIt turns out that in both my paternal grandparents lines there was a direct connection to Anne Couvent - after I had found it in my grandmothers line I recognized some names that were in my grandfathers line - turns out his line came from the sister of Anne - Charlotte. which traced back to King Henry III of England who previously through the Grant line was my 23rd G Grandfather but through the Couvent line was my 26th G Grandfather - and in my grandfathers second linage to Royalty Henry III was my 26nd G Grandfather as well. When I returned to Canada in 2013 to take care of my parents I had had very little knowledge of my ancestry except for what my mother or grandmother had told me about their families. In the early 2000's I helped one of my daughters do a family tree for a school project but we only went back 2 or 3 generations. So while taking care of my father I started to do work on our genealogy and came up with some pretty interesting surprises. \n\nThe first one was on the Godon side of the tree. It turns out that one of the Godon's claim to fame in Manitoba is for having the first official outlaw.\n\nGilbert Godon, a Metis from the Red Lake district of the Minnesota Territory, had gone down in history as Manitoba's first official outlaw when he killed Benjamin Marchand during a drinking brawl in 1872. Godon was in many fights and usually nothing serious happened until the night of October 10th 1873. Godon and a group of drinking buddies arrived at the Fort Dufferin home of A.J. Fawcett who was selling liquor illegally, when Fawcett refused to serve the new arrivals he was pushed and threatened by Benjamin Marchand Sr. Godon, in defense of Fawcett, intervened and chased Marchand outside. Marchand's son Benjamin Jr. retaliated by grabbing a shovel and banging Godon on the head. \n\nThe fight was then joined by Godon's father Louison, and brother, Joseph (my Great Great Grandfather) and the Marchands retreated to the backyard. They then attacked the Godon's for a second time and were again repelled. After the victory, Fawcett remembered that he did have some whiskey hidden, and began serving the victors of the fight. \n\nAn hour later Gilbert went outside for fresh air and ran into young Benjamin in the yard. Fearing another attack, he grabbed Marchand and dragged him inside. Her then knocked him down several times and began striking him on the head with the back of an axe head. \n\nBefore his family and friends could intervene, Godon struck Marchand in the head with what was to later prove to be a fatal blow from the blade. Fawcett then went to the nearby headquarters of the Boundary Commission (help at Fort Garry was 95 km. north). He returned with fifteen men led by Sergeant James Armstrong of the Royal Engineers. Benjamin died shortly after their arrival so they detained Godon. However, the officer in charge of the Boundary Commision refused to accept responsibility for him and he was released. \n\nHe then fled across the border into Dakota Territory. Subsequently, a coroner's jury found Gilbert to be responsible for Marchand's death and on November 12, 1873, a grand jury brought a charge of murder against him and a warrant was issued for his arrest. \n\nSix months after arriving in North Dakota Godon was involved in another fight and jailed at Pembina. Manitoba's chief constable, Richard Powell, learned of this and traveled to Pembina to return Godon to Winnipeg. On June 19th, 1874, Godon appeared in court and plead not guilty. \n\nThe following Monday, his trial was held, the jury deliberated for thirty minutes, found him guilty and he was sentenced to hang on August 26th. Godon, however, still had the sympathy of one man, bartender Dugald Sinclair, whose life Godon had saved in 1870. Sinclair began a campaign for clemency and in response to these petitions, the government commuted Godon's sentence to 14 years imprisonment. He was then transferred to the provincial prison at Upper Fort Garry. \n\nOn the morning of September 23, 1876, Godon bolted from the work gang he was on, grabbed a small boat and took off across the Red River. He then collected his wife and his horse and again fled to the Dakota Territory. He lived back and forth between Pembina and his brother's place at Emerson. \n\nIn 1877, Bradley, the Justice of the Peace at Emerson sent a posse to pick Godon up at his brother's house. Godon met them with a revolver in each hand, then in the meelee caused by his mother and sister-in-law he again escaped. \n\nIn February of 1880 he was again arrested for a brawl at Pembina, locked up again only to escape soon after with Frank La Rose. He and LaRose were reported to be in a Half-Breed camp on the Missouri River five months later. LaRose died shortly after their arrival of hunger and exposure.
