Esa caricia fue una consecuencia del placer que sentía por tenerte al fin. No era poco el tiempo que había dedicado a pensarte. Me habías cautivado con tu apariencia sencilla, pero a la vez enigmática. No te conocía mucha gente, pero quienes sabían de ti solo podían elogiarte. Me enfurecía cada vez que alguien intentaba alardear sobre cuánto sabía sobre ti, lo detenía inmediatamente para evitar hacerme alguna imagen antes de tener la propia.<BR>\nSoñaba con conocerte. Por eso ese día no cabía de emoción. Ya nos habíamos visto, pero por fin nuestro encuentro me permitiría profundizar en tu historia. Con eso contaba.<BR>\nSin embargo, jamás imaginé que estar en tu presencia significaría tantas cosas, todas maravillosas. En tu compañía he conocido lugares extraordinarios, de tu mano he recibido el regalo de viajar a sitios que no imaginé que existirían y he vivido aventuras emocionantes. Algunas veces sentí miedo, es cierto, pero siempre me dejaste ver que las cosas ocurren por una razón de valor. <BR>\nMe presentaste personas tan distintas, con personalidades tan diversas y con ideales disímiles. Algunas realmente me resultaron chocantes, es imposible quererlas. Pero muchas marcaron mi vida para siempre. Siempre soñaré con ciertos ojos, con aquella sonrisa y, por supuesto, con algunos besos… <BR>\nCada vez es más difícil despedirme. Las aventuras vividas me acompañan y algunas de ellas no me permiten conformarme con la realidad que me rodea. Sin embargo, me interesa que pensemos un poco en el significado de esta fecha.<BR>\nCon frecuencia esta celebración es considerada como una efeméride inherente a los grupos ambientalistas del mundo. Sin embargo, es una fecha en la que todos debemos detenernos a pensar y a hacer el ejercicio de comprender el impacto de esta fecha sobre la vida de los seres humanos. <BR>\nEl origen de esta celebración tiene varias hipótesis, la mayoría de los cuales ubican sus inicios entre los años 60 y 70. Algunas versiones mencionan a Vladimir Lenin, fundador de la Unión Soviética, como responsable de que el día de la tierra se celebre el mismo día de sus cumpleaños. Al parecer, los grupos ambientalistas y Lenin compartían el objetivo de terminar con la propiedad privada y por tal motivo estos últimos seleccionarían la fecha.<BR>\nLas hipótesis más aceptadas indican que el movimiento ambientalista norteamericano tuvo en el político Gaylord Nelson el impulso necesario para generar una protesta significativa. Se realizan convenciones alrededor del mundo y ya en la internet abundan datos que pueden describirnos en tiempo real el estado del ambiente que habitamos en estos días. Imágenes de grandes fábricas arrojando grandes cantidades de gases son comunes. Intentan advertir que el impacto de la industria es notable. Pero qué podemos hacer como ciudadanos para evitar que esto suceda. Qué podemos aportar.<BR>\nAl parecer, no mucho. Tomar conciencia no se refiere solo a no arrojar desperdicios en la calle o a dejar de usar pitillos (popotes, pajillas, sorbetes, entre otros sinónimos). Son la evidencia inicial de que el cambio es posible. La verdadera transformación ocurrirá cuando todos comprendamos el trasfondo de todas nuestras actividades, el costo de cada producto que consumimos, pero no su costo monetario, sino el costo ecológico que implica el uso de todo lo que nos acompaña cotidianamente. El primer paso es comprender que la disposición de los desechos depende en primera instancia de nosotros, no de quienes se ocupan de la limpieza. Quienes limpian tienen ese trabajo porque otros ensucian, así la primera tarea es no ensuciar.<BR>\nPero más allá de esto, debemos cuestionar el uso que hacemos de cada producto que compramos. Lo más común es pensar en evitar el consumo de productos plásticos, especialmente aquellos que son desechables, por el poco tiempo de uso y el largo período que requieren para su degradación.
