| title | The Fraud that is FOSTA |
| body | Recently congress passed a law named FOSTA (Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act). Now who could be against fighting online sex trafficking? That is where the details start to fade. The main point of FOSTA is to punish publishers who publish ads for sex, not just ones that place up ads for trafficking. This also includes if it was not intentional on the part of publishers. This means someone could cause havoc on forums and user generated media simply by posting a sex ad. This is not just Puritanism, this is authoritarianism at it's finest. And who supported it? Over ninety percent of congress and most tech companies. This is cartelization folks. This does not even get into other issues related to the bill. This bill also violates the anti ex post facto section of the US Constitution, as well as violating the first amendment directly, as well as indirectly through creating compliance issues for sites such as Backpage and Craigslist. The other thing that is problematic is that user content based publishers cannot afford to police all their content, and thus will have to be on pins and needles. Further any user content based site will have to think long and hard about this issue. Perhaps the loss of the US will be a gain for Canada, Hong Kong, Chile , or other entrepreneurial countries. What is further disturbing is that Republicans, typically a pro-business party, is in line with this line of thinking. In addition to FOSTA, there is a bill being debated in congress which would prevent any venture capital firms with Chinese investment from investing in US companies. This insanity needs to stop. In my opinion, I don't think they will just stop at sex work. I believe this crusade to end "human trafficking" will be cover to heavily regulate porn or anything that falls outside of sex within marriage. This is not about human trafficking, which also includes manual labor, maid services, among other things. If they wanted to end that, they would liberalize immigration so that people who are vulnerable do not have to hire a coyote to send them into trafficking situations. But that is not what this is about. It is about destroying what little sexual freedom the US does have and turn it into a theocratic state. The best way to to stop sex trafficking is to decriminalize prostitution and other forms of sex work. When sex work is decriminalized, sex workers can go to the police without fear of reprisal and also report any sex trafficking that has been occurring. But despite the effectiveness of this police in places like New Zealand, the US is way behind on this topic, or vices in general. It was only this week that a leader of one of the two major political parties called for decriminalization of marijuana. We have a long ways to go, but I believe that the US has potential. Even with the negativity surrounding sex trafficking and sex work, a recent Marist poll revealed that people do not believe people should be locked up for sex work, but merely fined. While that is still a bit of distance from full decriminalization, I think it is a step in the right direction. Source: http://maristpoll.marist.edu/531-should-prostitution-be-legalized/ |

"body": "\n Recently congress passed a law named FOSTA (Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act). \n\n This bill also violates the anti ex post facto section of the US Constitution, as well as violating the first amendment directly, as well as indirectly through creating compliance issues for sites such as Backpage and Craigslist. \n\n In my opinion, I don't think they will just stop at sex work. I believe this crusade to end \"human trafficking\" will be cover to heavily regulate porn or anything that falls outside of sex within marriage. This is not about human trafficking, which also includes manual labor, maid services, among other things. If they wanted to end that, they would liberalize immigration so that people who are vulnerable do not have to hire a coyote to send them into trafficking situations. But that is not what this is about. It is about destroying what little sexual freedom the US does have and turn it into a theocratic state.\n\n The best way to to stop sex trafficking is to decriminalize prostitution and other forms of sex work. \n\nSource:\nhttp://maristpoll.marist.edu/531-should-prostitution-be-legalized/",

| title | The Future of Governance is in the Blockchain. |
| body | I was walking down the street, thinking about the police state that America has become. I was bummed. It seemed like everyone continues cheering on the police state that America has become. Outside protesting the new jail that will waste millions in stolen taxpayer funds, and on top of that saddle the municipality with debt, I realized something. It did not matter. Yes the government cronies will have their time, but with some effort on the part of crypto anarchist, it will not last. I figured out that the court house, the regulatory bodies, and everything around me were spooks, that they would be displaced by the blockchain soon. You see, the blockchain is the game changer that hardly anyone is talking about. People talk about Bitcoin and it's potential, but the blockchain is much bigger than that. People have talked about general applications of the blockchain, but no one is thinking bigger: abolishing government. If one of government's main functions is obsolete, we are one step closer to complete self ownership. And as usual, the market is more efficient than government. The blockchain can be applied to numerous applications, such as property title registration, air wave spectrum registration, boat registration, things that are of public record, among other things. This is just the start. Blockchain mining could be a way of voting via the market. Miners could decide to participate in a blockchain or not to, thus either encouraging a rule or discouraging it through the competition in the marketplace of ideas. Further this can blossom into many private associations that can indirectly eliminate the need for government. The cost for record keeping would likely be less than it is under government administration, since it would be a matter of public record, versus private records, which require clerical staff to maintain. Further, private records could be maintained in the blockchain through encryption and other means. In addition, records would be kept more accurately due to being transmitted digitally as well as the profit incentive. Further, that does not take into account mission creep, the open source nature of the blockchain or other factors. Finally, rule making would be smarter. Because data could be transferred more efficiently and when combined with open source software, data would be of public record (which would open false data to scrutiny) , and would be less costly to gather since it would be collaborative (and more than likely open source). In addition, evidence for cases could be scrutinized in the blockchain. This would reduce the need for a jury and open up scrutiny of indiscretion in cases. This could also apply to civil cases, but would be more likely to be more limited blockchains. With less need for compliance due to private alternatives, organizations could invest more in in what they do best, instead of keeping up with regulations. This is just the beginning. Do you have any ideas how the blockchain could be expanded beyond just bitcoin? Reply in the comments to discuss how the future is in the blockchain. |

| title | The State and the Relationship Market, or How I Got Screwed by Uncle Sam. |
| body | Everything is a market. If you were an average person, you might squirm at the idea that even relationships revolve around economics. But economics is not just about money. Whenever you engage in relationships, you (if it is a good one) engage in a transactional model of giving and receiving, and if it is worth while, you continue. However, in many cases the male\female dynamics of traditional relationships (since poly, LGBT relationships, and others are not as much of a studied topic, I will leave examination of them for another author), the state create barriers and creates incentives for mischief. If you even look at the divorce rate, children born out of wedlock percentage, the amount of single parents on welfare, and both men and women refusing to marry, you will see economics incentives at play. For men, it makes no sense for them to marry, less they risk all they own if mom is going to stay home with the kids. This further leads to men trying to escape, since the what would be normal responsibility that does take a lot of hard work is further blocked up with legalese up the wazoo. So they escape and fail to take on the normal responsibility they would take on. Then a women, who may or may not work, wants a man with ambition, but lo and behold, in between the disincentive to work and the lack of incentive to pursue what is instinctual to a man, they find a man child that cannot make their way. Is there a better solution for either of them? For women, I cannot answer that. Perhaps women can date foreign men, but I have my doubts about that. As for men though, many have found solace in prostitution. But that is bad and immoral! So we must ban it, never mind rape goes up and aggression is encourage because we tell both men (and women in some cases) to hold in their urges, even if they have no other release. Other men find solutions in other means, such as the MGTOW community. This does not release the pent up energy men have. So we are left with foreign women. Sounds like a perfect thing, unless she does not have a degree. But what if she has an accredited degree? Sorry, but we will raise the cost so high as to prohibit you from immigrating. So we are left with visiting. What did you say? You need at least 8 months in advance just visit the US? Even with countries you supposedly signed free trade agreements with? What the hell are you smoking? The last situation is what I am finding myself in. I met a wonderful Colombian women , who not only is a school teacher, but is interested in libertarian thought, home education , learning, and growing in general. For me, being an anarcho-capitalist, this seems perfect. But because of artificial restrictions and if I stay in relatively modest means, I would be likely stuck dating women who will stabbed you in the back, have little intellectual curiosity, and are not truly interested in a 50\50 partnership. But because of these special qualities, I am not giving up and I will just have to return to the drawing board. I really wished she could have visited me in my hometown before I leave it, but I have plans to have a closer relationship, even if it is a little harder. I imagine the Christmas that would have been, if only there was not restrictions on the dating market. But I am trying to take it in stride, and next year I will meet her in Chile, which is comparison to the US is looking freer and freer every day. Going through this has made me really irritated at the closed border crowd. While there are some people would good intentions (not wanting to increase the welfare state), more often than not I feel people are afraid of the people they don't understand. "But just come here legally, and you won't have to worry about getting in trouble." I hear comments like that all the time, but if they only realized how hard it was to even visit the US, they might sing a different tune. In the name of safety, America as slouched from being the shinning city on a hill, and if you even want a glimpse of the shimmering fakery of what is left of the American Dream, you have to apply almost a year in advance just to even explore things or be close to the one's you love. In comparison to this experience, and despite the scams, I felt a spiritual connection to the Colombian people, despite their flaws, I felt like they were trying to do good. Here Stateside I don't feel that. Perhaps it is the fear, desperation, and depression that is developing. Or perhaps I am just imaging things. Perhaps everything is just fine, and I need to take a Prozac. |

| title | No Appointment? No Problem! How I Went to the Dentist and Still Made My Flight. |
| body | <img src="http://images.parenting.mdpcdn.com/sites/parenting.com/files/styles/story_detail_enlarge/public/1100_toddler_calm_dentist.jpg" height="40" width="40"><br> I had been putting of dental work for months because the dentists in my area that were worth their pay were very expensive, but the tooth had a cavity, and since it was in front, it was not only imperative from a health perspective, but aesthetics view as well. With not much time to spare, my friend and I searched Google for dental clinics. We went up the street to try and find the closest one. When we could not find it, we went to the next closest one. So my friend and myself toted all of our carry on luggage up the stairs and into the clinic. I signed the form and within a few minutes I was waited on. After an initial look over the dentist quoted me a price. $60 buck! While it is still cheaper than the US, it was a far cry from what I was expecting or had. So I decided that was too much and went out searching for another clinic. Right down the street there was another clinic. With that my adventure in medical tourism began. I asked if they took walk ins and they said yes. I filled out the paper work and within 10 minutes I was asked to walk in to the dentist chair. The dentist was attractive and attentive, and her English was pretty good to boot. Unfortunately my Spanish was so so but we cut the difference. For $31 dollars and $30 minutes of my time I was able to get a tooth done without the need for needles (they used gel) and using the best material (I don't even notice it was filled in). After that my friend and I visited a nice street restaurant and I bought a Mt. Dew for the road (That was one of the only downside to Colombia I saw, besides pollution and taxi drivers. The Mt. Dew was not as flavorful, but it lack as much sugar as well, so it was an even trade off I suppose). After the restaurant we caught a taxi. After learning how they metered taxis in Bogota, I checked the schedule that is supposed to be out by law, and to my pleasant surprise we were not being ripped off. It took us a while to get from Chapinero to the airport. It was an ok drive. By the time we got there we still had about an hour and a half to go. One problem: I couldn't find a place to print Spirit boarding passes. So we eventually found the desk, and luckily they did not charge us to get boarding passes at the airport. After that we were able to get through customs and all that fun stuff, but after flying with enough money for only one meal and not being able to eat in Bogota (where cheap meals would be), I felt out of it. I eventually got a brownie on my way out of Detroit, but that did not help my lack of food. After several hours to get home, I was glad to say I was happy to be home and eat. The takeaway, besides not rushing things, is that affordable medical and dental care can be had for way less than what it cost in the US, Canada, or else where. While 1 tooth would not per se justify a person going to Colombia for that alone (I was going there already), multiple teeth or a major operation may. For as low as $251 dollars, you can visit Bogota and take in the beauty. In addition, Colombia is not just for dental work. Medellin, which can be reached overnight by bus, is the plastic surgery capital of the world, although the prices don't reflect it. I imagine other surgeries and medical related purchases would be about the same, although the first things I mentioned are what Colombia is know for. So before you shell out hundreds or thousands for dental work, take a vacation instead and enjoy Colombia! |

| title | The Futures of Institutions are in the Cloud |
| body | As a species, we stand at a crossroads. We can either allow innovation and free speech to permeate all of our culture, and transcend not only speech, but into action, or stay stuck in 1984, and suffer from lack of innovation, not only in the economy, but in terms of social structures. We can choose multiple routes, but in order to bring about a renaissance in civil society, but in governance, commerce, and freedom, I believe crypto governance, both personally and on a corporate level, is needed. How this might look would depend on the application it is used for, but it may be centralized, but in less tolerant countries, peer to peer models might be used. I believe with some work the p2p model might work, but it is still in it's infant stage. Once it matures, I believe we will see more civil disobedience apps as well as apps related to peer to peer governance, but I believe it will reach a fever pitch in about 5 years. At the moment BitStacks is about the only alternative we have to hierarchy, but I imagine that will change with time. In time I believe legal systems will be built around this technology, first civil, then with a bit of luck criminal, although the exact details will have to be figured out. This is where the real potential lies. We already have seen the seeds of this system in OpenBazaar. With it's dispute resolution already baked in, this is the prophecy that many in the Libertarian camp would come true, and now it is. The problem though, lies in the fact that people are not just commerce. While everything does revolve economics (monetary based or not), institutions could benefit from it in a non economic way. We could create hybrid institutions. securities, contracts, and all other sorts of informal and formal social contracts which will create both wealth and betterment for the world. You may think of technology as an impersonal force, but that does not have to be. While it can surely be used to go beyond national borders and create structures we never thought possible 20 years ago. For instance, instead of allowing government to dictate how a business should be organized, which seeps into the organizational charts and into work practices, we could break free of the bondage of 401c's, corporations, S-Corps, proprietorships, and any other straight jacket governments tries to slip us into. But before we can do any of this, the Liberty movement needs programmers. While I understand everyone cannot be a coder or tester or whatever, I believe that if the Liberty movement were to invest a little more time in coding and open source projects and a bit less time in politics, I think we could change the world. While politics has an important role to play (especially with land use issues), I believe agorism and crypto-anarchism are the best way to go, even though I myself do invest in different baskets, including the political process and crypto-anarchism. Bitcoin is just the beginning. If we can create things like the blockchain and privatzed courts, there is not telling what we can do. But our kingdom is not of this world. It is in the cloud, and more specifically, in the crowd. |

| body | I really did enjoy it. I wish i had more time to chill there. I wanted to experience more of the cultural stuff like Rod Carew Stadium and a Jazz club, but did not have the time. I forgot that you should check out Pueblito and Ancon Hill. Albrook Mall is a bit hyped in my opinion. Markets near Avienda Balboa are pretty good though. It helped I had a friend from the hostel show me around. |
