In the project Telegram I announced my purchase and was invited into various smaller chats as a result. In one of these, I was asked to contribute funds to what I thought was a collective ad buy. I transferred 1 sol, worth about $250, to the specified wallet and was told the next day that these funds had been lost to scammers.\n\nDespite the loss, I became convinced that the project was genuine by a visit with its founders. On January 24, I met Moondong token creator Deep Water at the home of project artist Charlie Seed, who I've known for 30 years. Charlie showed us a big stack of Moondong drawings and confirmed his commitment to the project. Deep told me that he was fully committed to Moondong though he also wanted to pursue other projects. Both reassured me that they intended to continue supporting Moondong regardless of whatever else was going on.\n\nOn Jan 25, a key player in the NFT/memespace that I worked with back in my [Cryptowriter](https://substack.com/@markbailey259533) days estimated that Moondong could be worth $2-4 million. This was higher than my own initial estimate of Moondong's potential and lower than the estimates I was hearing from other people in the project on Telegram.\n\nBased on the visit and the credible estimate, I felt good about leaving my funds in the coin. Meanwhile, the price of Moondong just kept going down and down. So I kept buying more to reduce my average buy price. I ended up acquiring a serious percentage of the total token supply and contributing additional funds to the project at the request of its organizers. At the same time, I became completely engaged with the community and all of the hilarious Moondong memes.\n\nMy funds paid for an essential Dextools update and some good social media exposure. I've also written 3 [Hive posts](https://hive.blog/@mada) and a [Substack newsletter](https://freemindgazette.substack.com/p/memecoin-fever) about the project so far. And then there's the rap video. The first rap video, I should say. Soon I'd also like to make my scifi novels available for free to Moondong token holders, like I do with my personal token project [Rstory](https://rstory.io).\n\nMoondong is only a few weeks old and I'm convinced it has immense potential. This is the kind of coin that could actually gain a little foothold in the larger blockchain economy. Unlike 50k other memecoins, Moondong could conceivably still be around in 5 years. Whatever your political opinions may be, it doesn't get more legitimate than that. At the same time, large swaths of the memecoin space have been invaded by unsavory characters and questionable practices. There are people everywhere on messaging platforms trying to get you to send them your money or reveal identifying information. The risk of rug pulls is real.\n\nIt doesn't have to be this way. Token trading is inherently risky, but the communities we organize around our tokens can be made safer. The Moondong community is getting on top of this. We've already been targeted by scammers and spammers and we've been mostly successful in fending them off. We've also committed to transparency, making it clear that we're real people. Real people who think that a moon with a penis is funny.\n\nFor us, it's all about the Moondong, and we own this digital collectible proudly. Unlike most memecoins, Moondong will still be funny in 5 years. And people will still collect the token as long as being a Moonie continues to mean having a good time. To keep us headed in that direction, community members like me have resolved to make Moondong Solana's most ethical memecoin.\n\nThe token itself is built on Solana's public blockchain. Its creators kept a few tokens, locking up some of these [until September](https://tools.smithii.io/token-vesting-certificate/Moond-Dong-Dev-). Their percentage was relatively small, especially compared to blockbusters like Trump coin, where 80% of the supply is owned by Trump companies. There are individuals like me who hold big bags of Moondong, but this is only natural when a mere $200 buys you a solid 1% of the total, as it does at the time of this writing.\n\nWhile the trading market is a zero sum game, it's also relentlessly fair. The chart will always reliably report what people are willing to pay for Moondong at a given time. A person's choice to buy or sell is theirs alone. We obviously want them to buy and then brag about the purchase in the Telegram. But we're not about the sales pressure. We're just about the Moondong.\n\nThere's a mythology that's taken root in the memesphere. This mythology considers the life cycle of a token to consist of a single massive pump followed by a mass exodus and the inevitable death of the project. Everyone talks about hodling but cuts loose as soon as the price jumps or settles down below their expectations. The ideal scenario, in this mythology, is a future of gradual price increases with incremental and responsible profit taking as large stakeholders reduce their positions.\n\nWe can never reach this ideal with a one pump wonder. The way to get there is to change the story of what it means to organize around a memecoin. Instead of scamming each other, we entertain each other. Instead of promising riches, we promise only laughs. It would be hilarious if we all got rich on Moondong, but it would also be hilarious if it never caught on and we stuck with it regardless.\n\nProject artist Charlie Seed has told me that he's granting every Moondong holder the right to use his character for any purpose, even commercially. That means you can put Moondong in a video game or embroider him on a tote bag and sell it. Charlie is happy to share the products of his creativity freely with the community. In the project Telegram I announced my purchase and was invited into various smaller chats as a result. In one of these, I was asked to contribute funds to what I thought was a collective ad buy. I transferred 1 sol, worth about $250, to the specified wallet and was told the next day that these funds had been lost to scammers.\n\nDespite the loss, I became convinced that the project was genuine by a visit with its founders. On January 24, I met Moondong token creator Deep Water at the home of project artist Charlie Seed, who I've known for 30 years. Charlie showed us a big stack of Moondong drawings and confirmed his commitment to the project. Deep told me that he was fully committed to Moondong though he also wanted to pursue other projects. Both reassured me that they intended to continue supporting Moondong regardless of whatever else was going on.\n\nOn Jan 25, a key player in the NFT/memespace that I worked with back in my [Cryptowriter](https://substack.com/@markbailey259533) days estimated that Moondong could be worth $2-4 million. This was higher than my own initial estimate of Moondong's potential and lower than the estimates I was hearing from other people in the project on Telegram.\n\nBased on the visit and the credible estimate, I felt good about leaving my funds in the coin. Meanwhile, the price of Moondong just kept going down and down. So I kept buying more to reduce my average buy price. I ended up acquiring a serious percentage of the total token supply and contributing additional funds to the project at the request of its organizers. At the same time, I became completely engaged with the community and all of the hilarious Moondong memes.\n\nMy funds paid for an essential Dextools update and some good social media exposure. I've also written 3 [Hive posts](https://hive.blog/@mada) and a [Substack newsletter](https://freemindgazette.substack.com/p/memecoin-fever) about the project so far. And then there's the rap video. The first rap video, I should say. Soon I'd also like to make my scifi novels available for free to Moondong token holders, like I do with my personal token project [Rstory](https://rstory.io).\n\nMoondong is only a few weeks old and I'm convinced it has immense potential. This is the kind of coin that could actually gain a little foothold in the larger blockchain economy. Unlike 50k other memecoins, Moondong could conceivably still be around in 5 years. And I plan to tell absolutely everyone about our crypto gem.\n\nI can't recommend that they buy, of course. I'm not in the business of providing advice.
