This person was very interested in rescuing dogs that were in danger or abandoned, so I got involved in these situations too. \n\nNow, let me tell you something. Back then, I had two dogs that I left in my mom's house. I loved them very much and they were everything to me. But I also decided that, even when I couldn't take more dogs to my place, I could help them to find a new home and a better life. Sounds easy peasy and nice, right? Well, it wasn't. \n\nI got bited too many times when they were scared or when I was trying to clean their injuries. I got scratches almost everyday, because they were happy to see me or they were fighting with me. I had fleas in my bed, poop everywhere and let's not talk about the hair... but I also got worried when they run away or got sick. I let them stay with me when they were scared because of fireworks or thunderstorms. I shared my food because they were looking me with cute eyes. What can I say? It wasn't easy, but it was worth it. \n\nOne day my roommate brought another dog, the one in the picture. We called her Linda because we thought she has the face of a Linda. My roommate found her in the middle of the street almost dying. She was dehydrated, starving, has injuries on her paws and ears plus infections and scabies. She had a collar, so it was probably someone that left her there or she ran away and missed. We thought she couldn't make it, her case was very serious. We still tried, and thank goodness we did. \n\nWe gave her water and food (she was still able to do it) day by day. We gave her baths  and clean the cuts. Once she was able to walk around, we decided that she was going to stay in my side of the house. \n\nLinda ripped my coushions, stole my food, peed and pooped everywhere, sat on my bed, left hair in every corner and barked very loud. But she also waited for me at the door everday, followed me all around, moved her tail from happyness for being around me, never bited me when I was cleaning her cuts and she could notice when I was down, so she always brought the ball to play catch and cheer me up. \n\nLinda was special. Linda was extremly sweet, caring and happy. So until this day I wonder how could someone abandoned her? Either way, I'm thankfull because Linda made our days better. \n\nEventually I moved out and I couldn't see Linda anymore. We couldn't give her away, so she stayed with my roommate. Linda is still messy, but I think she gets sweeter every single day. \n\nHave you ever met a Linda? I admire her deeply, I think she is the most incredible person in the world, and I do believe she is insanely gorgeous. I also never brag about our relationship. I know we have a strong relationship based on love, respect and communication. Also, I do believe our relationship is way more stable and healthy than others. \n\nNow, I don't say this to brag, I'm not blind with love or neither think we're perfect. We have many flaws in our relationship too. We fight, we cry, we say bad things, we are childish sometimes and we do bad things. Like every relationship, I think. \n\nBut there's a huge difference between other relationships I know and ours. And I think the reason is because, even with our short age, we learned so much together about how to love each other in the right way. I don't know if we got lucky, but this is what I do know:\n\nPeople think that \"love\" is just an emotion. It is, of course, but loving is so much more than that. It is an action. A decision you make. You might think that's a cold statement, but honestly, it is a fact. Loving someone is tricky, and a struggle. Because once you understand that you made the decision to love that person, you also have to take the decision to improve yourself and your relationship, to think through about it, to measure your actions. That is the only option. \n\nAt this point, I'm sure you're thinking that my way of \"loving\" is a cold mathematical motion. But I'll explain you why do I think this is true. \n\nMy girlfriend and I learned how to communicate while being vulnerable. We do fight, we do have misunderstandings and sometimes we say or do awful things. But we realized that we needed to be completely honest and vulnerable with each other about our feelings to solve those issues. It was the only way to improve our relationship. \n\nSo yes, we do fight, but then we come around and talk about it. It is not an \"I'm mad but still sorry\" thing. It is a conversation about how we felt and why we reacted that way. And we have to be very vulnerable to share insecurities, fears and bad habits. \n\nIt is not a rule for us, we just know that's what we need to do to move on. It took us a long time, but we learned how to do it. We, individually, make the decision to be vulnerable and honest with ourselves and each other to make this work. \n\nWe also learned how to be respectful. This one is always tricky and we are always learning. Because being respectul is not just avoid saying nasty things. It is about respecting privacy, and feeling, and thoughts, wishes, dreams, actions, space, time and so on. \n\nI said it is tricky because sometimes when you're in a relationship like mine, you feel like you can have a voice or it is also your right to do something. Individuality is tricky in a relationship. And learning that you can't change someone and you shouldn't even try to do it, is very hard for humans. But that's the reality and once you learn to repect their individuality in that way, a lot of the figthings will disappear. \n\nThis is also not a rule. We just understand that crossing those lines hurts and it gets our relationship in troubles. It is easier to make the decision to respect your partner instead of putting your relationship on the edge. \n\nFinally, we learned how to honestly say we're sorry and to forgive. Because even when we know all those things I already metioned, we still sometimes struggle with it. Like when we say or do bad things, when we cross the line, when we know we did wrong. But we quickly understood that saying and being sorry is not a weakness, and even when it is a simple word, it can change the way you feel, how your partner is feeling and how the situation is evolving. \n\nMore important, we learned how to truly forgive. Not only each other, but ourselves.  It is the only way how we can stop feeling resentment, guilt or shame. It is the only way how we can move on. \n\nThis is not a rule on our relationship because you can't make someone to forgive you, but I think is a rule we have for ourselves. We both understand the power on forgiveness and how free can make you feel. Again, they're not rules, we make it because we want it. And we do it because we love each other so much that we prefer doing all those things to get better and stronger. It is a reciprocate mechanism. It is not cold or mathematically. It is the way how love make us better human beings, and while learning how to be better we also learn how to love better. \n\nI don't brag about my girlfriend or my relationship, but I do think we quickly figure out the three major keys to have a healthy and happy relatioship. \n\nI read one time, \"don't fall in love, rise in love\".       "body": "Muchas personas me preguntan a qué instituto asistí para aprender inglés, especialmente cuando notan mi fluidez al hablar o la pronunciación correcta de las palabras. Cuando les comento que no fui a ninguna escuela todos me ven como bicho raro, no me creen. Pero esa es la total verdad. Yo jamás fui a un instituto o curso específicamente para aprender este idioma.\n\nPero seré honesta, sí lo intenté.\n\nMás allá de las clases obligatorias de la escuela, una vez intenté tomar un curso para mejorar mi inglés. ¿El resultado? Un completo fracaso. No solo lancé mi dinero al trasto, sino que no aprendí casi nada. Desde ese entonces no he tomado otra clase.\n\nTampoco mentiré diciendo que no me sentí mal con esto. No solo por el dinero, sino que el curso era de una institución muy reconocida. Era la oportunidad perfecta para obtener un certificado que asegurara mis habilidades en otro idioma, un papel que respaldara mis conocimientos y los validara. Pero no pude terminarlo, no estaba en mí.\n\nMi problema con las clases y los cursos es que enseñan el inglés en una forma que no me es posible retenerlo. Suena tonto, pero en serio no puedo. Que si el verbo, sus formas, los tiempos, las conjugaciones, los plurales, que si va antes o después, que la fórmula para hacer preguntas, los adjetivos y mucho más. Todo esto, para mí, es reto enorme porque puedo entenderlo en el momento, pero luego se me olvidará todo. Es un tecnisísmo que va más allá de lo necesario. Yo quiero aprender a comunicarme, no a dar clases de sintaxis en inglés.\n\nPara aquéllos que les funcione aprender de esta forma, por favor, continúen. Oído: lo primero que se debe hacer es entrenar el oído. Así como los bebés aprenden escuchando, nosotros debemos hacerlo con los nuevos idiomas. Es la forma más fácil de ir aprendiendo nuevas palabras, cómo suenan, de qué otras palabras van acompañadas y en qué contexto se utilizan. Yo comencé a escuchar palabras en inglés desde que estaba muy pequeña porque en mi casa se veían muchas series subtituladas. Es más, podría decir que aprendí inglés viendo Friends, la famosa serie americana.\n\nLas series, películas o canciones son formas entretenidas y fáciles de ir aprendiendo. Mientras escuchamos las palabras en inglés y vamos leyendo los subtítulos en español, nuestro cerebro capta las palabras y poco a poco se comienzan a unir con un significado. Ya basta de decir que qué aburridos son los subtítulos, que da flojera leer… ¡qué va! ¡Son muy útiles! Lentamente te irás acostumbrando al lenguaje y te darás cuenta que empiezas a captar el significado de algunas palabras.\n\n2. Leer: el segundo paso, al igual que los niños, es aprender a pasar lo que escuchas al papel. Yo recomiendo empezar poco a poco. Leer la letra de las canciones es un comienzo sencillo. También leer artículos cortos en internet, cuentos, revistas, tweets, etc. Cualquier cosa sirve, pero procura empezar con cosas sencillas y luego ve avanzando a textos más largos y más profundos. Esta fase es complicada, debo admitir que aún me cuesta, especialmente con los libros que tienen muchas palabras que aún no conozco. De nuevo, es un proceso que lleva tiempo. Después de todo, uno no aprendió a escribir español en tan solo un par de meses, ¿cierto?\n\n3. Sumergirse: creo que este es el punto más importante. Si te basta con saber inglés para entender tus canciones favoritas, pues está bien. Pero si quieres aprender cómo hablar correctamente, con fluidez y con la pronunciación correcta, debes sumergirte. Cuando digo esto me refiero a que debes comenzar a escribir y hablar en inglés. ¿Tienes un amigo que habla inglés? Pues es momento de empezar a practicar. ¿No tienes? No te preocupes, Internet es un lugar maravilloso para intercambiar ideas con otras personas. Las redes sociales, forums, plataformas como reddit y medium son grandes aliadas para aprender inglés. No siempre debe ser un gran texto elaborado, a veces un comentario corto es suficiente. Si tienes dudas, siempre puedes recurrir a un diccionario o a un traductor. Pero no te dejes llevar por estas herramientas. Si las utilizas para que te traduzcan todo, entonces no estás aprendiendo nada. Hay que usarlas con moderación. Por último, si tienes la opción de viajar, esta es la mejor forma de aprender, pues te verás obligado por el ambiente a utilizar el lenguaje.\n\nCon estos tres elementos te aseguro que puedes aprender inglés sin esfuerzo. No más clases, libros o profesores explicádote una y otra vez qué es el verbo to be. Sin embargo, creo que un último elemento importante a agregar es la práctica. De nada sirve tomarnos un mes de lecturas, películas y debates en reddit si luego lo dejaremos abandonado para que se nos olvide todo. El ejercicio constante es lo que nos dará esa fluidez y esa rapidez al hablar. Yo comencé desde pequeña viendo series y aún lo sigo haciendo. Ahora leo lo que puedo y hasta he hecho amigos que solo saben hablar inglés. He aprendido muchísimo, pero ahora es que me queda por aprender.
