| body | Hey @femioladun this is a great question you pose here so please allow me to add my thoughts. When I write I like to come up with at least a vague idea of what I want the story to be about. Then, I'll start to formulate a broad plot, so I can allow it to take it's own shape as the story progresses. After that, I'll spend the most time developing characters that would fit best within the plot and let them lead the way in terms of story direction, events that take place, and climax of the story, among other aspects. Thanks for the great post. Take care and be well. |

| title | Why We Lie and How to Stop |
| body | Everyone has done it at some point in their life. Either by way of a fib, a half-truth or a huge, relationship ending, bold faced lie, everyone at some point lies about something. But where does the need to be dishonest come from? Why do we feel the need to be less than truthful to both strangers and loved ones alike? I’ve given this subject a lot of thought over the years and taken in to consideration many variables including age, situation, reason, outcome, thought process and many others and have found one thing to be common throughout. So, why do we lie? Fear. Plain and simple. When you think about it, many people are afraid of something, and many of multiple things. Some justified some not but, whether justified or not, the root cause is always fear. It could be a fear of many things. For example, fear of missing out, fear of letting down a loved one, fear of getting caught and as a result, fear of punishment of some sort, fear of looking stupid or incapable, fear of losing something or someone, fear of discovery, and the list goes on. Some could argue that we start our lives out being lied to (Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny ring a bell) and being that that happens during the formative years of life, is just something that sticks. I disagree. Sure, that may sound like a good reason but, it is only temporary logic pertinent during our youth. As soon as we age and begin to mature we can easily see the fallacy behind that way of thought as well as the purpose of little white lies like Santa and EB in that particular example (to enhance childhood or even to possibly instill a sense of wonder at a young age in an effort to promote creativity). Setting aside the childhood reasons, dishonesty really has no place in the adult world (even though it permeates it extensively) and exists only to contribute to the chaos of the modern world. Yet it still seems to run rampant and rarely unchecked. Imagine for a second how smoother things would run if everyone were just honest with one another. Imagine how much less complex your own life would be if you stopped lying or being lied to. Imagine how many more people would trust their governments and corporations if dishonesty became obsolete. So knowing how damaging and pointless lying can be, how can we personally stop contributing to this dishonest cycle? Quite simply, grow the fuck up and stop being afraid! Now let me just clarify here for a moment. Some fear is good and actually important. You should fear life threatening situations (You should fear kicking a rattlesnake or falling from a great height). What I’m talking about is becoming socially fearless. One of the best pieces of advice I have ever gotten and what I feel is one of the best pieces of advice anyone could receive is this: **Never give a fuck what anyone thinks!** Take a second to really think about that and be honest with yourself. How many times has your life been negatively affected because you were overly concerned with what someone else thought or said or how they acted towards you? How many times have you made decisions based on what someone else would want you to do? How much have you missed out on or failed to accomplish because you were worried that the result would hurt, anger, or displease someone else? Now ask yourself this and answer it honestly. How much more of your happiness, health, and life’s experience are you willing to sacrifice to please someone else who, most likely, wouldn’t even think to do the same for you? Hopefully at this point you’re a bit angry. Angry at yourself and all the people whose thoughts you overly and wrongly concerned yourself with and let dictate too much of your life. Now, here’s how to fix it. **Stop giving a fuck!** Not in general, but in terms of fearing all that dishonesty poorly attempts to alleviate. Once you’ve begun doing that, I want you to realize something. **You are not here for anyone other than yourself!** Should you choose to spend your time helping those who need it, outstanding, more people should be like you. But, this life you are living right now is your one and only chance to be this person, living in this time, loving the people you love, learning the things you learn, experiencing all you can to best fulfill and benefit you. Far too often we are consumed with the thoughts of other people. Far too often we are consumed by this ever-growing world with its constant responsibilities and distractions and we can forget that this is our time, our lives to shape and control and enhance anyway we see fit so take charge of that shit. Stop letting other people steer your life to benefit them. Stop lying to other people out of fear of what might happen or what they might think of you and most importantly, stop lying to yourself. This is your time and your life. **Be Fearless!** Take care and be well GG |

| body | Hey @chbartist how's it going? Another great post with a great message. I only take issue with one part. You said, " If you are convinced that there is nothing that you can say or do to change your emotional state, to be happy, then in fact you are correct...". If this was just a misprint than I take no issue with it whatsoever. But, if it was intentional I disagree wholeheartedly. We are the only ones who can change how we feel. Through steps like identification, acknowledgement, and commitment to change (among others), we are all that stands in the way of our happiness and a more positive life. While the road to those may be difficult, they are roads we must travel nonetheless if we want more from our lives. It is unfair for us to expect the world, its people, or its situations to change to better suit our lives. We must be the ones who say, we will not stand for this, we will not accept this, or we want and deserve better, in order to change our lives for the better. Human beings have a profound capability to change the world around us, primarily our own lives, but because, as you said, we are constantly being bombarded with negativity whether it's through fear mongering in the media or depressing ass people in our lives, it may at times seem impossible. Posts like yours and mine and many others on here show that it is not impossible, quite the opposite actually. We all just have to be willing to put in the work and realize that we do deserve happy lives and that it's ok to ask others for help when we need it. I applaud your continuing efforts to spread positivity and help add value to this human experience. Well done. Take care and be well. |

| body | Hey@journeyoflife good post. I like this post because it actually gives me something to reply to as I both agree and disagree with some of what you have here. One of the first things you mention is how someone will invite you out for coffee only to try and pick your brain for some free info which ultimately you don't want to give out and how that unpaid time leaves you having to work later to catch up on what you missed while having that coffee. I see your point here and have to say, that is called networking and you shouldn't view it as a negative interaction just because you didn't make any money from it. A lot of times building a solid relationship is far more valuable than the money you'd make for an hour of your time. In addition, the fact that someone values your opinion enough to want to pick your brain or hear your thoughts has incredible value in itself and shouldn't be looked at as lost time or profit. Another thing you mentioned is that if someone doesn't care about you then they don't deserve your help. Pardon the expression but that's just bullshit. People don't have to care about you in order to gain your assistance. The bottom line here is that you don't help someone to get appreciation, accolades, or to get them to care about you. You help someone because you're a human being that can help and they're a human being that needs help. The mentality you rationalize this with is a growing problem throughout the world today. It's basically, if they don't care why should I? or if they can't help me why should I help them? Those two trains of thought contribute greatly to the decline of humanity plain and simple. You also mention something along the lines of not helping people unless they ask you for help. That too is ridiculous and here's why: Every human being carries with them a double edged sword called pride. For some, it is very beneficial as it propels them forward and motivates them to strive for their best life and value themselves greatly. For others, it contributes to their suffering by preventing them from asking for help when they're the ones who need it most. So waiting for someone to ask for help, in many cases, is no different than watching someone suffer and doing nothing about it. Another thing you mentioned is in regards to "offering insight for nothing" and how you disagree. On that, I completely agree with you. You took the time, energy, and probably money to develop a particular skill set and your damn right you should be well compensated for your time and insight. As a fellow entrepreneur let me offer you this advice. Find the balance between compensation and what you give away for free. Of course you should be paid for your skill but remember there are things that can often be more valuable than money. Primarily networking and making contacts as I mentioned before. You even touched on this when you mentioned speaking at a gathering and if they can't afford you they should offer something else of equal value (i.e. a free booth at the event, free tickets, etc.) I would also recommend in this situation things like a sit down with the ceo, customer contacts, products or services they offer, shares in their company, or things along those lines. One last thing I want to touch on from my life coaching point of view. You mention that, "once in a while you must be egotistical" and "disregard what society is asking you to do". In terms of the former statement, being egotistical is one of the worst things anyone can do. The ego is of no help whatsoever in any area of life for it contains too many trappings (pride, entitlement, greed, to name a few). Instead, be selfish, at least from time to time. Look at it like this. Whenever you're on a plane they tell you that in case of a drop in pressure oxygen masks will fall and to put yours on before helping anyone else, because if you can't breathe how can you help someone else to? Just find the way in everyday life and business to put your mask on first and then get to helping others. The latter part of the statement, disregard what society asks of you is absolutely ridiculous. From a social perspective it is a surefire way of ending up alone especially when you need to ask something of society which all of us at some point will inevitably have to do. From a business perspective, if you disregard what society asks of you your business is doomed to fail, plain and simple. The purpose of any business IS to answer societies questions and provide them that which they are asking for. It would do you, and everyone for that matter, well to remember that none of us are here for the financial experience, or the business experience, or even the personal experience. We exist for the human experience. I feel that you are coming from a very passionate place in terms of your business and personal life but you must never forget that words carry weight and your words here are coming off as negative and aggressive based on only your personal experiences. As someone who started their own business you are in an excellent position to give sound advice to younger upstarts and peers. Yet ego and emotion have clouded what could've been a very positive and enlightening post. All I'm saying is that when you post, never forget the weight your words carry because your readers won't. I do want you to know however, that I did thoroughly enjoy your post because it has sparked the potential for growth in both of us and I greatly look forward to your reply. I will be up voting this post and in addition, will be following you as I feel you have a great deal to offer everyone here including myself. Take care @journeyoflife and be well. GG |

Take care @journeyoflife and be well.\n\nGG",

| body | Hey @chbartist great post. I agree with you on everything here and would like to elaborate on a couple of your points for your readers. I like the question you pose, "Why would they be called bad if there was anything good about them?. A point I would like to make in agreement with you is this, bad and good are subjective concepts. For example, imagine a billionaire losing $10,000. Most likely they wouldn't give it a second thought. It may not be ideal in their mind but they most likely wouldn't look at it as a bad thing. However, if an average man with a wife, two kids, mortgage, car payment, etc. were to lose $10,000 they most likely would perceive it as being devastating. And all because of their particular view on it which changes for everyone. I think its important for both your readers and mine to remember that concepts like good or bad, concepts that are subjective, that aren't the same for everyone, really hold no weight or value other than what we give them. So a major step in changing ones life for the better is simply to monitor what you give weight/importance/value to. I also wanted to touch on another thing you said which I very much agree with. You mentioned a quote by Herbie Hancock (a great one by the way) and added that you've come to accept that there is no such thing as an easy life. Early in my military career, in order to help persevere certain training I was going through at the time, I knew I needed to tell myself something to keep pushing me through the pain and adversity. So I came up with the mantra (feel free to use this as well) An easy life is an empty life. That mantra kept me going through numerous times in my life as a reminder that there is nothing to learn when travelling the safe road and that everything I had in my life that I loved and cared for was earned through hard work. Anyway, thanks for a great post. You got my upvote and I'll be following you immediately to read more of what you post. Take care and be well. GG |
