| title | Nima and Flare now Rive |
| body |

Recently I logged back in to 2D Dimentions Nima and Flare which is nore renamed to Rive. Its the same thing just consolidated into one application. They are also commited to Open Design Tools for everyone to use. I really like the vision of the app going forward as a replacement for flash. With their recent announcement of raising some VC funds, I look forward to the app improving and reaching more designers and animators.
As software continues to eat the world, applications are becoming richer, more immersive, and more personal. But there has been a vacuum for high quality, dynamic animation since Flash (rightfully) went away. Without Flash, building animations for mobile and web became a major undertaking which requires a dance of designers, animators and engineers to spend hours in polishing an experience. There are lots of reasons to be critical of Flash, but it was an incredible tool for rapid creative expression — from games to art to applications. Without it, creative expression has been limited in the animation world by the weak tools and cumbersome workflows. The twin brothers — Luigi and Guido — observed this challenge first-hand and started Rive to make animation building simple and delightful again. It’s not hard to recognize this is a perfect duo that combines creative experience design with precise engineering execution, who are going to create something truly special that transforms how games and apps are built going forward. — David Ulevitch, General Partner at Andreessen Horowitz
https://medium.com/rive/rive-raises-4m-seed-round-led-by-andreessen-horowitz-4aeada45505c

Posted from my blog with SteemPress : http://williamteh.com/nima-and-flare-now-rive/

|

Its the same thing just consolidated into one application. They are also commited to Open Design Tools for everyone to use.\n\nI really like the vision of the app going forward as a replacement for flash. With their recent announcement of raising some VC funds, I look forward to the app improving and reaching more designers and animators.\n\n
It’s not hard to recognize this is a perfect duo that combines creative experience design with precise engineering execution, who are going to create something truly special that transforms how games and apps are built going forward.\n\n— David Ulevitch, General Partner at Andreessen Horowitz\n
\n\nhttps://medium.com/rive/rive-raises-4m-seed-round-led-by-andreessen-horowitz-4aeada45505c

Posted from my blog with SteemPress : http://williamteh.com/nima-and-flare-now-rive/

",

I have startd a CG BOSS account for both platforms account and my own William teh Designs on TikTok. Some things he talk about which is roughly sound the same the year throughout is get over your embarrassment to produce content. Document don't create, You are in control of what you put out and it takes a lot of work to get an audience. Just give and don't expect anything in return for a long while.
Marketing in 2020
I feel that Linkedin has a lot of potentional with the right content unlike facbook where its organic reach is going down over the years. Same with instagram, I can only reach 1-2 persons, on LinkedIn I find for my own account it has been better view impressions on a post. I have not really followed Alex Becker He comes off like a motivational business Guru and he is smart at getting attention on YouTube but from what I have seen he is similar to GaryVee in looking at 2020 differently for Internet Business Niches. He has his own software business and while he did sell courses in the past like other Business Gurus. He seems to be pivoting to something else and focusing on his own software company. Other Gurus sell a lot of overpriced courses but he is a practitioner in another way. Some of the things he talk about is how hard it was to start in internet business marketing in the early 2000s. But now its easy but you need to be better than others in your nich focusing on quality. There is a lot of copycat beheaviour and what might separate you is a focus on product and quality. | body |
http://williamteh.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/amazon-launches-lumberyard-game-engine-to-push-aws-game-services.jpg

Found this interesting Intro to Lumberyard on Dev.to by Jeikabu on how to setup and install Lumberyard. One portions he goes through is the Build system LMBR_WAF that Lumberyard uses . And the commands used to first compile your projects using LMBR_WAF. This is important to learn some command line basics as you will interact with the Engine for setting up your project via the command line. You can user Cmder for this. Currently trying to upgrade an old project i tried using the -p game profile but it does not work that well. Instead I am trying out to rebuild the Game Engine and editor. You will use this command often to build your game project.
lmbr_waf build_win_x64_vs2017_profile -p all
Some might think this is a waste of time but it made me a better designer in thinking what I want to get out of the project. My Build times are about 4 Hours. It feels like the engine is meant for programmers, but if you work through it you can learn a lot of things about programming in general. As of now I would advise not to use the old Cryengine gems as I do not know when those will be taken off. Eventually it will the new systesm like vegetation and animation are much better than the Cryengine ones and I believe more might be migrated over. The older workflow of using CGF files have been replaced with FBX workflow and its much better. Right now I am having trouble with Lumberyard 1.22 but I still have hopes for this engine that it will come through. I really like the idea of a cloud connected engine with features for AWS and Twitch native integration.

Posted from my blog with SteemPress : https://williamteh.com/intro-to-lumberyard-dev-to/

|

"body": "
http://williamteh.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/amazon-launches-lumberyard-game-engine-to-push-aws-game-services.jpg

Found this interesting Intro to Lumberyard on Dev.to by Jeikabu on how to setup and install Lumberyard.\n\nOne portions he goes through is the Build system LMBR_WAF that Lumberyard uses . And the commands used to first compile your projects using LMBR_WAF.\n\nThis is important to learn some command line basics as you will interact with the Engine for setting up your project via the command line. You can user Cmder for this.\n\nCurrently trying to upgrade an old project i tried using the -p game profile but it does not work that well. Instead I am trying out to rebuild the Game Engine and editor.\n\nYou will use this command often to build your game project.\n\n
lmbr_waf build_win_x64_vs2017_profile -p all
\n\nSome might think this is a waste of time but it made me a better designer in thinking what I want to get out of the project. My Build times are about 4 Hours. It feels like the engine is meant for programmers, but if you work through it you can learn a lot of things about programming in general.\n\nAs of now I would advise not to use the old Cryengine gems as I do not know when those will be taken off. Eventually it will the new systesm like vegetation and animation are much better than the Cryengine ones and I believe more might be migrated over. The older workflow of using CGF files have been replaced with FBX workflow and its much better.\n\nRight now I am having trouble with Lumberyard 1.22 but I still have hopes for this engine that it will come through. I really like the idea of a cloud connected engine with features for AWS and Twitch native integration.

Posted from my blog with SteemPress : https://williamteh.com/intro-to-lumberyard-dev-to/

",

| title | How to Move from Animation to Developer role |
| body | Note: This is a long blog post about my story on how I got to be a UI Developer.
How does one move on from Animation into a Developer position?
What skills do I need? Besides Tech Skills? I am currently doing work as a UI Developer and this is my story, how I landed a Developer job in 2-3 months after graduating from an animation course by doing some self-improvement and self-learning new skills. This is a recount of how I went from my time at Animation to UI Development.
Re-evaluation
After graduating from 3dsense and doing a short graphic design project while applying for animation jobs. I decided 2 months in I needed to pivot away for a while from doing animation. Earlier I was applying to the various animation jobs and only had 1 art test for a CG engineering related position. I failed it. I also tried to interview for motion graphics jobs but my portfolio was not relevant, since it was mostly 2D and not 3D CG type works. Looking around at the marketplace on various job boards for jobs animation was not so 'Hot' right now where I lived. It was getting worrying that I could not find any job as a junior animator. Plus I had to feed myself. The thoughts of a starving artist mind was creeping on to me. I wondered if I have to end this story for a while. The option to working overseas as a junior animator was not feasible right now. I kept hearing on the news and seeing my facebook feed about Tech and Programming initiatives that the Goverment and companies are promoting. Recalling my time at General Assembly there was the coding Bootcamp, but I never took much notice about it as I felt I could do better in the creative space rather than being a tech geek. Perhaps my impressions were not so good about programming having thoughts it was hard. But I decided to just see what it was like in this space since I needed to find work.

https://www.imda.gov.sg/imtalent

Getting Back to Software Development (Research)
Back on searching the online Job portals I had to make a comparison between animation and tech jobs. I felt it was important to see how much salary and opportunity demand were for Tech Talent and to my surprise I found more hits and results than even UX Design or Animation. Reading more articles on Google about future tech trends made me realise having some knowledge about Tech and development roles have a better prospects for a while. And it is something still valued in the economy as Hard Skills. Tech skills were still in demand for now I concluded. This made me realise I have to get back into programming. One point to note I won't be starting at a ZERO beginner base, as I have had web development experience from long ago except it was PHP and HTML CSS. Looking through the jobs on indeed.com I found most tech job requirements were different from what I learnt. It was asking me if I have experience with many new languages like Python, Ruby, React, Angular and Node.js. Web development is looking very different than what I knew. I was undecided if I could go back to do the 3 month course like at General Assembly. Or try to work though there were a few new ones coming up and the controversies of bootcamps and job placement, where many students were promised a career in tech but realise how hard it was and the programs were a touch and go kind of thing and not deep enough to build deep expertises. But having attended some Tech Exhibition event it made me convinced that I had to go to one of the bootcamps to gain relevant and marketable tech skills or do my own personal learning online.
Bootcamp and Techskills Accelerators
Having learnt about Tech Skills in demand and the possibilities to gain these skills through coding bootcamps I had to narrow down a few courses / schools. From the IMDA website. https://www.imda.gov.sg/imtalent/programmes/tipp#EligiblePartnersandCourses I started to apply to the various coding bootcamps to learn more about the course and when their intakes begin throughout the year. There were all kinds some 3 months some 6 months and there ware even one at a Hospital College. All these programs promised the career transition or switch into the tech industry regardless of your background. I applied to one of the courses and was given a coding test. This introduced me to Code Wars an online coding challenge platform where you answer coding questions. They wanted to evaluate my competences before enrolling for the course. Besides the test I had a breif phone interview where I was briefed about the course and what to expect. I was given some practice questions to try out before I could attempt the actual Code Wars Test. But even though I was trying to apply for courses and doing the test and trial questions, one thing popped up I had a lack of funds and I could not apply for any Goverment Grants for training as I used it up at 3dsense for the current year. This made me stopped the coding challenges and test and had to find a way to restart another way to learn the skills of software development, without the guidance of a coach or physical course. Somehow the thought of applying and not going to the bootcamp was better in hind sight as I felt I already graduated and got a Job my mindset was so different than when I was at 3dsense where all I wanted was to be a game animator.
Hacking my Skills through Ultralearning
Updating my old programming skills in 2019. I though of using what I learned in Top Performer and finding relevant online courses to hack my skills to gain some understanding of a Tech Developer Role before taking the plunge into an actual developer job. Since I was not starting from a total Zero base and had some programming knowledge. I remembered Scott H Young studying for the MIT-Challenge in a year and blogged about it, he also recetly published a book about ultralearning a method of picking skills fast but I did not know it at the time. And I needed to find the relevant Skills for a job in 2 months while upgrading my resume. I started watching Stefan Miscook Videos to get a rough idea of how to get into Web Development. One thing that he says in his videos is to check what is in demand for your market. It could be PHP or Java or Python each region will have different market needs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlnR97aD8eg I also looked at Job boards like Indeed to see what the Marketplace wants to learn what I needed to know to get a Job. Many Jobs wanted HTML, CSS and Javascript. Some wanted Angular or React but I felt if I learned the basics of web dev the skills can be transfered on later to these frameworks.
Staying Motivated
I started to google and Read Blog posts about how others switched jobs and tackled programming challenges. This motivated me to know that people out there have done it as well. There were many stories about regular people making the jump to tech and even working at Google. I know motivation stories like these can't replace the work you do but its a good Spark and starting off point to remember that someone else out there has done it. https://www.scotthyoung.com/blog/2019/07/08/learn-to-code/ https://medium.com/@danielrsanchez_/how-to-get-a-job-at-google-4ba75e60395d https://medium.com/codingthesmartway-com-blog/the-2019-roadmap-to-fullstack-web-development-1bba67a54ae8
Starting with Basics HTML CSS Javascript
It seems to narrow down to a few languages Javascript and HTM, CSS which were a requirement in various Web Dev Jobs. I started out by watching videos on Lynda.com and some free Youtube Videos to refresh my HTML and CSS but I watching these courses I stumbled upon Freecodecamp and Scrimba. which had both lessons and live coding practice you could use to learn. These were Freecodecamp and Scrimba.
FreeCode Camp
After watching some of FreeCode Camp videos I started to do the basic exercises to gain some practice on using the code languages. One good thing about FreeCode Camp is there is a roadmap to learn the necessary skills for web development. Later I used it as a sylabus research as I switched to Scrimba halfway after discovering it via Youtube.
Scrimba
I really like the Scrimba platform as it has an audio lecture with demos of how the instructor solved their coding problem or explain concepts kind of like sitting in a classroom seeing them work. You can pause the audio or lecture and play around with the code and see what you get. The previous version of Scrimba was less organised so I used Freecode camp sylabus to find the relevant courses mainly Javascript and HTML CSS (Right now Freecodecamp has material on Scrimba as well)
Other Learnings
I went back to Lynda.com to learn programming concepts like what is a Variable, OOP and some basic Python knoledge. These were more higher level concepts that you needed to know like how a program flow and since Lynda.com had an App I could play the lesson and hear through my iPhone Headphones while commuting. Just to stay in touch with the material consistently. I tried to clock in 2 hours of learning and practice since it was a short lesson followed by practice in the web browser. This helped to reinforce the concepts learned. The main key point was not to learn a specific language but general programming concepts that can be brought over to other languages or frameworks.
Resume Rework and other 'soft skills'
At this time while learning to code and trying to get a Job, I went to a career counselling session where I met with a career advisor to help me understand how to get a job in my current situation. It was a good sessions where we go over things like how to present my resume better tailored to the industry and adding the right keywords for the specific Job i was applying for. I was tasked to get my resume / CV more focused for the job. I was also told to showcase that I am still learning about new things and showcase that I am upgrading myself it can even be online learnings. One other option I was told was to try internships or Job Trials for roles lasting 3-6 months this is for me to get a feel of what the job and role in the industry would be like. Most of the placement would be facilitated by MyCareersFuture Center. After listening to my Career Coach and making the edits to my resume / CV, I submitted my new resume to the MyCareers Future Portal to be considered for job vacancies. Inbetween I went to take some free interview workshops and learning how to answer interview questions and presenting my past experiences. One key takeaway is to learn to get Next step was to register for various tech related career fairs. I found one right through one of their Facebook Ads held at M Hotel.
Career Fair Getting Interviews
Going to a career fair had 2 Goals

Talk to Recruiters to understand what kind of available jobs are out there in IT

Gain Face to Face practice Interview Skills

The career fair was a good chance to meet people in the industry. I spent the afternoon there talking with various recruiters to understand what people were hiring for. Some kept my resume. Some had a long chat with me about my career history and interest in Tech. I learned that Python and Node were popular choices. But if you have skills in Java you can still get a Job but it was for enterprise level systems developed quite a long time ago. I looked mostly at Front End Jobs since that was more closely related to what I was learing on Scrimba. I wanted something along the lines of Web Development, but some required a specific framework like Angular or React. After dropping off my resume there I waited. One of the agencies called me up and setup me for interviews with various companies. Thanks to the career fair I was Lined up for 3 Job interviews for the next two weeks.
Interviews
I won't go into detail about the interviews but 1 out of the 3 had a technical test. They wanted to see if I can get my head around Angular since I only had some Javascript experience and was learning ReactJs on my own. The other two interviews surprisingly did not. I just talked about my past experiences and showed some demos I did on my Laptop and describe my past experiences with working with Microsoft Sharepoint designing and deploying webpages. Later I was contacted by 1 that they wanted to offer me a job to be a Developer in Financial Services. Doing Dashboard designs and Working on Front End Code.
Final Thoughts
This is the end of my story it was a long journey to go from an Animator wanting to work on game projects to now doing Dashboard and UI Development. If you are planning to learn code and get a job, look at online courses like FreeCode Camp, Scrimba and Lynda.com these are very easy to learn and with the hands on practice you get doing the exercises you are well on your way to solidifying the concepts. Go to career fairs, these are better than tech meetups as there is a pool of companies ready to hire candidates. You get better chance of exposure to the recruiters and see where you stand.

Posted from my blog with SteemPress : http://williamteh.com/how-to-move-from-animation-to-developer-role/

|

"body": "Note: This is a long blog post about my story on how I got to be a UI Developer.\n\n
\n\nImage source: https://dribbble.com/shots/4502924-Python-developer-animation\n\n
How does one move on from Animation into a Developer position?
\n\nWhat skills do I need? Besides Tech Skills?\n\nI am currently doing work as a UI Developer and this is my story, how I landed a Developer job in 2-3 months after graduating from an animation course by doing some self-improvement and self-learning new skills.\n\nThis is a recount of how I went from my time at Animation to UI Development.\n\n\n\n
Re-evaluation
\n\nAfter graduating from 3dsense and doing a short graphic design project while applying for animation jobs. I decided 2 months in I needed to pivot away for a while from doing animation.\n\nEarlier I was applying to the various animation jobs and only had 1 art test for a CG engineering related position. I failed it. I also tried to interview for motion graphics jobs but my portfolio was not relevant, since it was mostly 2D and not 3D CG type works.\n\n\nLooking around at the marketplace on various job boards for jobs animation was not so 'Hot' right now where I lived. It was getting worrying that I could not find any job as a junior animator. Plus I had to feed myself. The thoughts of a starving artist mind was creeping on to me. I wondered if I have to end this story for a while. The option to working overseas as a junior animator was not feasible right now.\n\nI kept hearing on the news and seeing my facebook feed about Tech and Programming initiatives that the Goverment and companies are promoting. Recalling my time at General Assembly there was the coding Bootcamp, but I never took much notice about it as I felt I could do better in the creative space rather than being a tech geek. Perhaps my impressions were not so good about programming having thoughts it was hard. But I decided to just see what it was like in this space since I needed to find work.\n\n
\n
https://www.imda.gov.sg/imtalent
\n
\n\n
Getting Back to Software Development (Research)
\n\nBack on searching the online Job portals I had to make a comparison between animation and tech jobs. I felt it was important to see how much salary and opportunity demand were for Tech Talent and to my surprise I found more hits and results than even UX Design or Animation.\n\nReading more articles on Google about future tech trends made me realise having some knowledge about Tech and development roles have a better prospects for a while. And it is something still valued in the economy as Hard Skills. Tech skills were still in demand for now I concluded.\n\nThis made me realise I have to get back into programming.\n\nOne point to note I won't be starting at a ZERO beginner base, as I have had web development experience from long ago except it was PHP and HTML CSS. Looking through the jobs on indeed.com I found most tech job requirements were different from what I learnt. It was asking me if I have experience with many new languages like Python, Ruby, React, Angular and Node.js. Web development is looking very different than what I knew.\n\nI was undecided if I could go back to do the 3 month course like at General Assembly. Or try to work though there were a few new ones coming up and the controversies of bootcamps and job placement, where many students were promised a career in tech but realise how hard it was and the programs were a touch and go kind of thing and not deep enough to build deep expertises.\n\nBut having attended some Tech Exhibition event it made me convinced that I had to go to one of the bootcamps to gain relevant and marketable tech skills or do my own personal learning online.\n\n
Bootcamp and Techskills Accelerators
\n\nHaving learnt about Tech Skills in demand and the possibilities to gain these skills through coding bootcamps I had to narrow down a few courses / schools. From the IMDA website.\n\nhttps://www.imda.gov.sg/imtalent/programmes/tipp#EligiblePartnersandCourses\n\nI started to apply to the various coding bootcamps to learn more about the course and when their intakes begin throughout the year. There were all kinds some 3 months some 6 months and there ware even one at a Hospital College. All these programs promised the career transition or switch into the tech industry regardless of your background.\n\nI applied to one of the courses and was given a coding test. This introduced me to Code Wars an online coding challenge platform where you answer coding questions. They wanted to evaluate my competences before enrolling for the course. Besides the test I had a breif phone interview where I was briefed about the course and what to expect. I was given some practice questions to try out before I could attempt the actual Code Wars Test.\n\nBut even though I was trying to apply for courses and doing the test and trial questions, one thing popped up I had a lack of funds and I could not apply for any Goverment Grants for training as I used it up at 3dsense for the current year.\n\nThis made me stopped the coding challenges and test and had to find a way to restart another way to learn the skills of software development, without the guidance of a coach or physical course.\n\nSomehow the thought of applying and not going to the bootcamp was better in hind sight as I felt I already graduated and got a Job my mindset was so different than when I was at 3dsense where all I wanted was to be a game animator.\n\n
Hacking my Skills through Ultralearning
\n\nUpdating my old programming skills in 2019.\n\nI though of using what I learned in Top Performer and finding relevant online courses to hack my skills to gain some understanding of a Tech Developer Role before taking the plunge into an actual developer job. Since I was not starting from a total Zero base and had some programming knowledge. I remembered Scott H Young studying for the MIT-Challenge in a year and blogged about it, he also recetly published a book about ultralearning a method of picking skills fast but I did not know it at the time. And I needed to find the relevant Skills for a job in 2 months while upgrading my resume.\n\nI started watching Stefan Miscook Videos to get a rough idea of how to get into Web Development. One thing that he says in his videos is to check what is in demand for your market. It could be PHP or Java or Python each region will have different market needs.\n\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlnR97aD8eg\n\nI also looked at Job boards like Indeed to see what the Marketplace wants to learn what I needed to know to get a Job. Many Jobs wanted HTML, CSS and Javascript. Some wanted Angular or React but I felt if I learned the basics of web dev the skills can be transfered on later to these frameworks.\n\n
Staying Motivated
\n\nI started to google and Read Blog posts about how others switched jobs and tackled programming challenges. This motivated me to know that people out there have done it as well. There were many stories about regular people making the jump to tech and even working at Google. I know motivation stories like these can't replace the work you do but its a good Spark and starting off point to remember that someone else out there has done it.\n\nhttps://www.scotthyoung.com/blog/2019/07/08/learn-to-code/\n\nhttps://medium.com/@danielrsanchez_/how-to-get-a-job-at-google-4ba75e60395d\n\nhttps://medium.com/codingthesmartway-com-blog/the-2019-roadmap-to-fullstack-web-development-1bba67a54ae8\n\n
Starting with Basics HTML CSS Javascript
\n\nIt seems to narrow down to a few languages Javascript and HTM, CSS which were a requirement in various Web Dev Jobs.\n\nI started out by watching videos on Lynda.com and some free Youtube Videos to refresh my HTML and CSS but I watching these courses I stumbled upon Freecodecamp and Scrimba. which had both lessons and live coding practice you could use to learn. These were Freecodecamp and Scrimba.\n\n
FreeCode Camp
\n\nAfter watching some of FreeCode Camp videos I started to do the basic exercises to gain some practice on using the code languages. One good thing about FreeCode Camp is there is a roadmap to learn the necessary skills for web development. Later I used it as a sylabus research as I switched to Scrimba halfway after discovering it via Youtube.\n\n
Scrimba
\n\nI really like the Scrimba platform as it has an audio lecture with demos of how the instructor solved their coding problem or explain concepts kind of like sitting in a classroom seeing them work. You can pause the audio or lecture and play around with the code and see what you get. The previous version of Scrimba was less organised so I used Freecode camp sylabus to find the relevant courses mainly Javascript and HTML CSS (Right now Freecodecamp has material on Scrimba as well)\n\n
Other Learnings
\n\nI went back to Lynda.com to learn programming concepts like what is a Variable, OOP and some basic Python knoledge. These were more higher level concepts that you needed to know like how a program flow and since Lynda.com had an App I could play the lesson and hear through my iPhone Headphones while commuting. Just to stay in touch with the material consistently.\n\nI tried to clock in 2 hours of learning and practice since it was a short lesson followed by practice in the web browser. This helped to reinforce the concepts learned.\n\nThe main key point was not to learn a specific language but general programming concepts that can be brought over to other languages or frameworks.\n\n
Resume Rework and other 'soft skills'
\n\nAt this time while learning to code and trying to get a Job, I went to a career counselling session where I met with a career advisor to help me understand how to get a job in my current situation.\n\nIt was a good sessions where we go over things like how to present my resume better tailored to the industry and adding the right keywords for the specific Job i was applying for. I was tasked to get my resume / CV more focused for the job. I was also told to showcase that I am still learning about new things and showcase that I am upgrading myself it can even be online learnings.\n\nOne other option I was told was to try internships or Job Trials for roles lasting 3-6 months this is for me to get a feel of what the job and role in the industry would be like. Most of the placement would be facilitated by MyCareersFuture Center.\n\nAfter listening to my Career Coach and making the edits to my resume / CV, I submitted my new resume to the MyCareers Future Portal to be considered for job vacancies.\n\nInbetween I went to take some free interview workshops and learning how to answer interview questions and presenting my past experiences. One key takeaway is to learn to get\n\nNext step was to register for various tech related career fairs. I found one right through one of their Facebook Ads held at M Hotel.\n\n
Career Fair Getting Interviews
\n\nGoing to a career fair had 2 Goals\n\n
\n
Talk to Recruiters to understand what kind of available jobs are out there in IT
\n
Gain Face to Face practice Interview Skills
\n
\n\nThe career fair was a good chance to meet people in the industry. \n\nI spent the afternoon there talking with various recruiters to understand what people were hiring for. Some kept my resume. Some had a long chat with me about my career history and interest in Tech.\n\nI learned that Python and Node were popular choices. But if you have skills in Java you can still get a Job but it was for enterprise level systems developed quite a long time ago.\n\nI looked mostly at Front End Jobs since that was more closely related to what I was learing on Scrimba. I wanted something along the lines of Web Development, but some required a specific framework like Angular or React.\n\nAfter dropping off my resume there I waited. One of the agencies called me up and setup me for interviews with various companies. Thanks to the career fair I was Lined up for 3 Job interviews for the next two weeks.\n\n
Interviews
\n\nI won't go into detail about the interviews but 1 out of the 3 had a technical test. They wanted to see if I can get my head around Angular since I only had some Javascript experience and was learning ReactJs on my own.\n\nThe other two interviews surprisingly did not. I just talked about my past experiences and showed some demos I did on my Laptop and describe my past experiences with working with Microsoft Sharepoint designing and deploying webpages.\n\nLater I was contacted by 1 that they wanted to offer me a job to be a Developer in Financial Services. Doing Dashboard designs and Working on Front End Code.\n\n
Final Thoughts
\n\nThis is the end of my story it was a long journey to go from an Animator wanting to work on game projects to now doing Dashboard and UI Development.\n\nIf you are planning to learn code and get a job, look at online courses like FreeCode Camp, Scrimba and Lynda.com these are very easy to learn and with the hands on practice you get doing the exercises you are well on your way to solidifying the concepts.\n\nGo to career fairs, these are better than tech meetups as there is a pool of companies ready to hire candidates. You get better chance of exposure to the recruiters and see where you stand.

Posted from my blog with SteemPress : http://williamteh.com/how-to-move-from-animation-to-developer-role/

",

I talk about in the Podcast about my Blog and Social Media and selling things online. This blog would still just be for my thoughts on My journey as a digital designer. I would be posting the occasional article 1-2 times a month with a podcast.
Social Media
I have only dabbled in a few social media boosting post right now it's cheap here in Asia according to Gary Vaynerchuck. It's quite under priced but there is no true measure of success with running these ads. I am leaving social media as a strategy when I can afford to pay for engagement on Facebook. I read there is no ROI in social media. All social media is an expense not just money but time and creativity and effort. I need to learn inbound marketing and find a way to get my name / brand out there. One course is the HubSpot Academy. On quitting social media entirely, I don't think I can go cold turkey 🦃 like what cal Newport does quitting all social media, he does not have social media at all. But that is another topic, the benefits of using social media for this blog promotion are minimal when I tried to do cross posting. I think we should show our work and work in public as mention by Austin Klein but be mindful about the platform treat it as a medium and not a means to an end. Interestingly I feel that it's impossible to run away from Social media if you need to use it and a promotional tool to promote your brand or get attention its what this era communication is about.
Making my own product
I think going forward I would like to make my own product. One thing that I have earned money was selling a 3D Model online. There are many tools now available like Gumroad to sell things. Dropshipping for my own product such as T-Shirt with print on Demand with my own designs. via GIPHY
Affiliate Marketing / Adsense
I realise that doing affiliate marketing can take up a lot of time and like social media it's may not be for me I am happy with just a simple box ad on the side but trying to write affiliates post is taking away time in creating my own things and documenting about them. I rather write 1-2x a month Long articles on things I am doing rather than doing weekly reports because sometimes there is nothing else to write I am not a news site.
Podcasting
I really like podcasting, right now it is easy due to the Anchor App, its super easy to setup and get going setting up a podcast. I might buy a better mic to record but I feel i don't want to spend too much time. Its much faster than creating a long blog post but blogging can be used as a draft to be used later into a podcast episode. The blog may be a place to host and archive content. Podcasting now has results being shown on Google Search results. Which is a good thing hopefully it will scan the words I am saying in the audio file. My main medium is going more visual and using inbound marketing to drive traffic to products or an online store.
Projects
Trying to revamp and get things going. Making CG BOSS a group for real making stuff for real Learning Inbound Marketing. Learning about Dropshipping to sell stuff like my own T-Shirt products.

Posted from my blog with SteemPress : http://williamteh.com/year-end-reflection-cg-boss-podcast/

|

Posted from my blog with SteemPress : https://williamteh.com/year-end-reflection-cg-boss-podcast/

|

| body |
https://williamteh.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/img_1668.jpg

Recently Cartoonbrew reported about a commercial created by Animator Kevin Bao used in the latest Playstation Winter Trailer, it had parts plagarised. Some from Gobelins Student Films and Even Steven Universe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0lZiSIZgUc https://twitter.com/EallinAnimation/status/1202273300862447617?s=20 In a followup the Animation Production Company that helped create the commercial, has stop representing him for more work. Here is all the shots that got copied by. https://twitter.com/catsuka/status/1202187253889601539?s=20 It can be disheartening as a creator to see your work copied. Thanks to Social Media now you can call out someone. But is is necessary? Its a double edge sword and it exposes the original creator that plagarised as well as what everyone else thinks. Maybe in the future blockchain can help protect works put out by the artists online. I do not know Kevin Bao or how the project was setup. I feel its already hard to make something good. But here is my thinking. Probably the new Ad was suppose to be similar to the previous music trailer video Lineup in June. It used animation inter-cut with gameplay footage. So the marketing department wanted to keep it in a similar style. Something probably happened in production that he took a easy route to trace frames and cover it up with his own background art. He followed the shots and framing closely to the originals. Probably to save time and make the delivery. But that did not turn out so well.
Plagiarism or Inspiration
Noting is Original though do we get angry if our works we put out there get copied or should we have a different response. I can't answer cause I am only observing. I feel that this is quite tough now in a digital age. Where you can't just create anythine new, there are ways to make sure you should only look at the source material as a starting point and start transforming it into you own. This was an earlier ad that had animation spliced with Trailers. https://youtu.be/KT61U1U8334 After some discussions I do think that it was ok for Kevin to Copy the scenes and shots as a rough draft or for learning but it should not have gone into the final Images for the delivery. He should have take the time to study the works and their sources of inspiration. I felt that Kevin should have tried to transform all the inspirantions he got and re-interprete in his own way and undersating. All the while tryng to satisfy the business requirements of the Job. Some things he could have done is changed the camera angles and make and transform the original ideas of the shot. What was the motivation, was there another way to do it? This is a good lesson to learn do Copy from your heroes bur Do not forget to Combine and Transform them in your own way. But that did not turn out so well.\n\n
Plagiarism or Inspiration
\n\nNoting is Original though do we get angry if our works we put out there get copied or should we have a different response. I can't answer cause I am only observing.\n\nI feel that this is quite tough now in a digital age. Where you can't just create anythine new, there are ways to make sure you should only look at the source material as a starting point and start transforming it into you own.\n\nThis was an earlier ad that had animation spliced with Trailers.\n\nhttps://youtu.be/KT61U1U8334\n\nAfter some discussions I do think that it was ok for Kevin to Copy the scenes and shots as a rough draft or for learning but it should not have gone into the final Images for the delivery. He should have take the time to study the works and their sources of inspiration.\n\nI felt that Kevin should have tried to transform all the inspirantions he got and re-interprete in his own way and undersating. All the while tryng to satisfy the business requirements of the Job.\n\nSome things he could have done is changed the camera angles and make and transform the original ideas of the shot. What was the motivation, was there another way to do it?\n\nThis is a good lesson to learn do Copy from your heroes bur Do not forget to Combine and Transform them in your own way. Check out Everything is a Remix on this as well as the Futur Discssion on Plagiarism or Inspiration.\n\nEverything is a Remix\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJPERZDfyWc\n\nThe Futur on Plagiarism\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvrmngTHVJ8&t=2078s\n\nP.S Even Makoto Shinkai got Plagarized\nhttps://youtu.be/xAsJ-rF7W34\n\n \n\n
Links:
\n\nhttps://www.cartoonbrew.com/bad-ideas/director-kevin-bao-fired-by-animation-studio-after-accused-of-plagiarism-in-sony-playstation-spot-183343.html?fbclid=IwAR1zn1Lm4e3aXzrqnkM5l8MTXdTDZuLjfu3_nO3LdiQ_Dgcz_JbP4xpVc5U\n\nhttps://determinately-curious.tumblr.com/post/158026710114/saltyicecream-2d-animation-tips-tracing-this/amp

Posted from my blog with SteemPress : https://williamteh.com/inpsiration-vs-plagirism/

",

I may join the forum to take part in their animation challenges to improve my drawings. The video showcases some of the software used in the Anime industry in 2019. A well researched piece with some recomendations. Alternate will be Avid Media Composer and Pro Tools which have free full versions to use limited to number of tracks. | body |
https://williamteh.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/makoto-shinkai-your-name.png

Looks like someone uploaded the whole storyboard sequence of the Anime Your Name by Makoto Shinkai. I have been watching a few videos of Makoto Shinkai and it makes me inspired to try to start out and be an indie animator making my own films. He does a lot of the early films by himself and is inspiring to anime indie directors. Do Enjoy the Whole sequence. I really have enjoyed this film an think it can be used as a good study for animations. This film has impacted a lot of youth and young persons / adults in Asia. I might go into more detail into Shinkai films someday. Link to the video on Bilibili https://www.bilibili.com/video/av12686634/?spm_id_from=333.788.videocard.0 You can get a hard copy of the Storyboards here from Amazon (Affiliate): Links: https://soranews24.com/2017/07/27/your-names-animated-storyboards-show-anime-phenomenon-like-youve-never-seen-it-before%E3%80%90video%E3%80%91/

Posted from my blog with SteemPress : https://williamteh.com/your-name-storyboards/

|
