      "body": "Keep in mind that I wrote this when I was feeling punchy and it paints with rather broad strokes. That being said, you took the time to reply so I'll repay the courtesy and try to better articulate at least some of my thoughts.\n\nOne of the problems with discussing the afterlife is that there is no universal concept of it, much like god. I admit I am confounding several different ideas people may have. One of these is not the Christian heaven, but the world of spirits and hauntings. Some people may have a positive view of such a world, rooted in a belief that beloved ancestors are watching over them. Why is that comforting? There are obvious answers. Perhaps we don't want to say goodbye or like the idea of someone who loves us influencing our lives or dispensing wisdom from beyond. That's understandable, but my mind tends to extrapolate what that experience must be like for the ancestor. How is it to be bound to a place and to a particular emotional range, robbed of all the experiences of everyday human life? Such beneficient hauntings may be a comfort for the living, but sound like pure hell for the dead. At least to me. Others may differ, but we are here discussing feelings rather than facts. Take it or leave it I guess.\n\nBeyond that, there is the far more complex question of what is life to begin with. This coupe apply to many concepts of the afterlife and perhaps it is a more fruitful discussion than taking a survey of those concepts and discussing them in turn. What I mean is:  what does it mean to be human and how seperable is this from our physical exitence? We can talk about the continuity of consciousness outside the body - whether you call this a soul or whatever else - but is mere continuity all there is? The second point of my post, which I admit was not well said, is that I regard our lives as more than the memory contained in a single brain. We are connected and our identities are formed by the totality of our experiences, including all the ways we are connected to other s within the bounds of time. Yeah that's a mouthful and simply saying it does not make it true or even intelligible. It is something I would love to expand upon someday.\n\nI am confused by your concept of time. What does it mean to exist outside of time? Just curious that's all.",

If you are with God then as he is outside time, time being a construct that he made, then you would not be in time.  The alternative is no different, not being with God for an infinity of now.       "body": "I have missed out something rather important.  What happens if you do not have a target to work towards.  That is a bit more difficult to write about because I have always had a target until recently, now I have artificial targets.  They are not real but they do give a sense of achievement in the short term.  So what does happen if you have no objective?  Well, at first nothing, hey, it might even feel like a relief.  After a while you may realise you are missing something, the sense of achievement when a target is reached, and the following renewed vigour going onto the next target.  None of that then, so what do you get, a slow subsiding into a feeling of dissatisfaction and then depression.  Depression breeds depression, and is hard to get out of.  It saps your energy, nothing is worthwhile and so on.  If you feel yourself slipping towards that you must identify what it is and know what the answer is.  Pick a short term easy target, do it, feel good, pick another harder more long term target, and get up and running again. \n\n\nEaster is about renewed life, a new beginning, so eat your chocolate eggs and get ready for summer sunshine and flowers.",

When the consequences are dire, then it is highlighted.  In a similar way, have you noticed how you remember bad outcomes to your actions, but good ones tend to fade into nothing.  I belive that is simply a survival trait, and everyone has these experiences. The result of remembering bad experiences is that you avoid them in future. Not good for peace of mind though.",

      "body": "Life flows ever onwards, do we drift or go with or against it.\n\nOne cannot avoid decisions, even to simply not make a decision is in itself a decision.  In the end you are responsible for your plight or wellbeing.  Society has changed, or has it?  Poverty drove our relationships in the Victorian era, and today societal energy drives our relationships, but our relationships have not changed.  We are still human animals.  As a genus we are like other animals we strive for continuation of our species, not as individuals but unknowingly together.  Life is not like a river, it flows in many directions and there are many dead ends.  If we drift we can find ourselves in one of these dead ends and we will have a feeling of something being wrong without knowing what it is.  There is no way forward, and we sink to the bottom.  There is an alternative of course but that requires thought, decision making, and swimming against the flow.  In the end it is survival of the fittest, a unrewarding motivation for the unthinking.\n\nThe pursuit of pleasure for its own sake is a dead end, if for no other reason than a satisfied need not longer motivates, and an unrelenting pursuit of that fading pleasure will lead to physical or mental sickness.  We need to see ourselves for what we are, animals that make intellectual choices.  Choices that are intellectual need training for, they cannot come from nowhere.  In a way rather like computers, they used to say rubbish in, rubbish out. We have to ask ourselves what our objective is, and will our desired way forward achieve our objective.  Our objective is rather like a diamond, it has many facets and is extremely valuable, and is three dimensional. I see you as wandering around in the dark, and wondering why there is no light.\n\nYou will have to forgive my style of writing, I am a dyslexic, and yes I had a very hard time at school.  It took me quite some time to figure out that there are pluses and well as the original minuses, I can now see that what is obvious to some is not to me and what I can grasp immediately others cannot.\n\nIf we had to build a house to live in, then quite a lot of people appear to be wondering just what to do about the chimney pots, how many and where they should be situated, whereas I start by digging the foundations.  If you don't have foundations your chimney pots will simply smash on the ground when you let go of them.\n\nSo an event happened, and I think most people will agree, an event is preceded by a cause.  If there is no cause there is no event.  The difficulty that Stephen Hawkings preceived was that the four dimensions, or if you insist the nine, or eleven dimensions came into being at the same time because you cannot have one without the others.  So either we do not exist or there was no natural cause for the Big Bang.  I am convinced I exists.  There being no time \"before\" the Big Bang that makes all natural possibilities impossible which only leaves a supernatural possibility.\n\nEnjoy.",

      "body": "If God exists, then he existed during the first second of the big bang, he/she did not come into existance after the big bang.  Therefore all subsequent happenings are irrelevant.  There is a tendency to try and complicate the question of God, which does not help understanding.  A little like trying to teach calculus to a four year old.  So I would suggest sticking to one plus one is a good start.  So what do we know about the Big Bang?  We know it happened, and if we are happy to believe Stephen Hawking then there was no time before that event.  Knowing that an event requires a cause, Prof. Hawking has been trying to find a way of having a physical effect which would be the cause for the Big Bang.  He has been stuck on this for quite a few years.  \n\nMany people have come up with hypothesis' ranging from bouncing universe, a relatively modern idea but rather spoilt by the discovery that the universe is expanding at an accelerating speed, rather than slowing down.\n\nIt would seem that there can be no natural cause for the big bang, which since we appear to be here, only leaves a supernatural cause.  So God exists, and looking at the Old Testament, he told the Jews that his name is \"He, who is\".  A being outside of time.  This therefore does tie in with what we can intuit.\n\nOnce you have a clear grasp of basics, you can move on to the complexity of today.",

      "body": "Hi Freedompoint:  I see you believe as fact what you read about the creation of the universe as seen through the eyes of man 6,000 years ago or something like that.  Basically it is a parable about the creation of the earth, and it has a value just as the parables quoted by Jesus have.  Very important meanings, but not scientific truth.  Rev. George Lamaitre came up with what actually happened by looking at how things are today and asking why.  When you consider how mathematical the universe is you realise how very logical God is, not just logical but loving also.  The point about the logic of the universe is how if any one of his laws of nature were even one millionth out of true then we would not exist.  That is how our lives should be, correct down to the last millionth.  OK, we are human, but we should always go back to the origin, Jesus.  So what did Jesus say and do.  The orthodox/catholic argument was to say the least obtuse, in fact, unbelievably so.  In the beginning was the Word, and so in the beginning was the Holy Spirit and the Father.  However they came to us in a particular order, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  But does that actually matter?  What matters is that Christ died for us so that we could be redeemed.  Free will means that we actually have to choose that, and choosing isn't simply an act of will, it is following to the best of our ability what was set out for us by Jesus.\nTime for church now so I have to get ready.",

Consider the Big Bang, so named because of stalwart of the atheists of the time, Sir Fred Hoyle, Astronomer  Royal refused to accept that the universe had a beginning.  This horrendus idea was put forward by Rev. George Lemaitre so it had to be wrong, but Hubble confirmed it four years later.  Still Hoyle would not accept it as he realised that if the universe had a beginning, then it had to have a cause.  Nothing of our universe existed before the big bang, not even time, so you could not have a physical cause, a natural cause, for the big bang.  There are many still fighting against this obvious fact, but they cannot come up with an idea that is workable.  So there is a God, which one, well that is more difficult and needs a lot of consideration.  In the end it comes down to faith, but faith based on something rather than nothing.",
