      "body": "I used to feel the same way when I was in my early twenties. Like you, I also have friends who are my age, are married and whom I feel sorry for - they are broken men too.\nFrom my own experience, and the observations I've made on the lives of other people my age, I've learnt the following things:\n\n1. ### Do not marry before 30\n- I'm glad I never got married in my early and mid twenties because during that time:\n  * I've really enjoyed being single: I could do whatever I want, I got a chance to travel the world, I could stay out as long as i want, I could just switch off my phone and disappear for days and no one could care, I've started two companies, and both failed, and been bankrupt and I'm now working on the third company - having the freedom to experiment with my time was an advantage my married peers didn't have.\n  * The girls I thought were pretty in my early twenties are not so pretty today. There is a saying: \"men age like wine; women age like cheese\". Women are prettiest/sexiest in their early/mid twenties but men get more attractive the older they get. The kind of girls I could not date because they were way out of my league when I was in college are the kind of girls I'm dating now. I guess that's because I'm more confident now. Maybe it's because  I'm more attractive. Or maybe we'll never really know.\n   * Sex and beauty will eventually fade - you should only marry when you understand this.\n   * I have changed a lot and learnt a lot about myself over the years. Some things I used to find attractive in women in my early twenties are no longer so attractive now. \n2. ### As you get older you start to get lonelier\n- Firstly, you no longer just think about what women can give you but you start thinking what you can also do for others - you start to realise that it's not just about you.\n- As you get older, life experiences become less exciting when you have no one to share them with. To give an example, you can visit the best restaurant in town or go to the best club and dance all night. And have a good time but the experience will be so much richer if you share it with people you care about, people you love and people you will meet again in the future and start a conversation with the words: \"Do you still remember that day when...\". The evolutionary process has hardwired human beings to be social animals. If I could go back 10 years to give my 19 year old self some advice, I would go and give myself this blog post. Too bad I can't go back in time so  the best I can do now is share this blog post with all the 19-year-olds out there. \n\n## This is the advice I would give myself:\n\n### On being a gentleman\n1. Offer her your jacket when she's cold\n2. Offer to seat to a lady or an older person\n3. Always carry a spare handkerchief - you won't always be around a crying lady but when you do, you need to give her a clean handkerchief\n4. Hold the door for everyone.\n5. Wait until they finish speaking before you say what you want to say\n6. Keep your phone away if someone is talking to you. Also make sure you're facing them and listening carefully.\n\n### On life\n1. Your life is what you make it\n2. Smile and laugh more. Until it becomes a habit.\n3. Things don't happen by themselves. You have to ask the girl out; Or as they say it in lotto: \"you have to be in it to win in\".\n4. You can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped\n5. You're the rule not the exception. So you're never going to win the lotto. And you're only going to achieve success through hard work and careful planning rather than sheer luck.\n6. Like Pether Marshall said: \"If you don’t' stand for something, you will fall for anything\".  You should stand for something.\n7. Don't suffer fools gladly\n8. Only teenagers and posers know everything\n9. Be kind. Everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.\n10. Be who you say you are\n11. Be the change you want to see in the world\n12. If you're going to try, go all the way. Otherwise don’t' even start\n13. If you're invited to a party or dinner, carry a bottle or a six pack of something. Whenevery you can, help to clean up afterwards.\n14. Never go to a party you're not invited to\n15. Rules are for the obedience of fools and for the guidance of wise man\n\n### On business\n1. \"Those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.\" Keep doing your thing, ignore those who don't get you. Don't try to justify yourself or explain yourself to them - they don't matter.\n2. If one day you choose  to start your own company and if you get to a point where you feel you need to write a business plan, write this business yourself. Being able to delegate is an important skill but don’t delegate our outsource the business plan.\n3. Investors don't make or break your company. You do.\n4. Fail fast, fail cheap and fail while leaning towareds success.\n\n### On religion\n1. Always avoid discussing religion or politics\n2. Resist the temptation to want to debate/reason with a religious person about their religion or try to educate them. You will never win that argument. \n\n### On Children\n1. We didn't inherit the world from our parents. We borrowed it from our children.\n\n### On relationships\n1. If in doubt, kiss the girl\n2. No means no\n3. If she asks if she looks fat, it's not enough to say \"no.\" You must also act very surprised by the question. Jump backwards if necessary.\n4. Whether it's a wife or a co-founder, choose your partner wisely. 90% of your happiness or sorry will be directly because of your partner.\n5. You are better off with someone who loves you than with someone who you love tbut they don't love you back.\n6. Beauty will eventually fade. Don't marry for just looks.\n7. Don't marry before 30.\n8. Birds of a feather flock together\n\n### On work\n1. Don't run commands as root and avoid running commands with the '-f' option.\n2. When you can, reply your emails as fast as you can. One day you will find yourself in a situation when you have no defence and you will be able to squeeze out of it by asking: \"How long does it take me to respond to your emails?\". Then, you will thank yourself for responding to emails very quickly\n3. Always be on time. Meet deadlines no matter what. Always do what you said you do. \n4. If you're working in a team and you know that your team is making a mistake but they don't realise it, find a way to get people to see things the way you do. It won't help any to say \"I told you so\" in the future. \n5. Don't give anyone advice unless they ask for it\n6. Being a millennial and a gentleman I often feel like I'm the last of a dying breed whenever I look at many of my contemporaries.\n\n think that the biggest contribution I can make here is remind others what it means to be a gentleman most (if not all) of my future posts are going be around that subject.  I don’t consider myself a perfect and I also hope to learn to you among other things how to be a better gentleman from this community through the interacts we shall make in the comments section.\n\nI die a little bit inside every time I come I come across men who have forgotten about what it means to be a gentle. Some of these things are:\n\n## Gentlemen are chivalrous\n* First of all, a gentleman sees all women and girls as lady. \n* A gentleman always opens the door, pull the chairs or helps a lady with her coat\n* A gentleman is prepared to lay his coat on the ground for her\n* A gentlemen will never hit or disrespect a lady. Never.\n* A gentleman will protect his lady at all costs. Not just by walking closest to the curb (to protect her from traffic, debris, puddles, ..) but he'll stand up for her when others who may wan to disrespect or disparage.\n* A gentleman pays the bill. The lady never sees it.\n\n## Gentlemen don’t' play games\n* Gentlemen don’t beat around the bush. \n* Gentlemen say what they mean and the mean what they say.\n* A gentleman doesn't say maybe if he wants to say no\n\n\n## Gentlemen are polite\n* Not all people who dress well are gentlemen but all gentlemen know how to dress well in an attire that fits their body size.
