      "body": "The catchword in your post was the word \"free.\" \n\nFree only happens when a group feels that they can make up the expense  by selling people on something during the free experience.\n\nI love the idea of a layover tour, but I would scratch out the word \"free\" and look at options by local small businesses. \n\nThere is a huge number of \"airport shuttle\" companies. I suspect that most of them would be happy to give a tour. I have never been in a limousine. I understand that these companies are willing to charge lower rates for off peak use like a midday layover tour.\n\nBy using the small business approach, one is more likely to encounter local small businesses and connect with the lay over city in a more authentic way.\n\nGoing the small biz route also means that one can find a layover tour at every airport.",

      "body": "Hi @yintercept,\n\nThanks for the comment! \n\nI believe the reason why these free layover tour are offered may be for the following reasons:\n- Relieve boredom for those traveling in-transit and happen to have an extremely long layover\n- Free up congestion at the airports\n- Promote tourism in nearby towns and cities that are reachable by a tour bus\n\nFor example, the Tourism Bureau of Taiwan is the one who offers and sponsors the tourism provided from the airport. They hope to entice returning visitors who may not have thought that visiting their city or country could offer interesting sites (i.e. like myself, I didn't think that Taipei could be interesting but now think otherwise).",

      "body": "Touring a town on layover sounds like a great idea.\n\nBut, I don't see why such tours must be offered by the airport, nor do I see why the tour must be free. \n\nThere is a huge number of companies that offer airport transportation. \n\nYou could probably get a fun tour from a taxi, lyft or uber driver.\n\nThere are often city buses and trains that serve airports as well.  For example in Salt Lake the [Trax Train](http://protophoto.com/subject.html?subject_id=226) runs from the airport to downtown. The train would be more reliable than a tour bus.",

I like the idea of planning out a location to visit and making it a reality.\n\nIn one of my past trips, I had a goal of taking my brother to Japan. While looking for flights, I noticed there was a long layover at Taipei, Taiwan for over 10 hours. \n\nWhile looking up potential sightseeing tours, this link came up: <a href=\"http://eng.taiwan.net.tw/tour/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Free Half-Day Tour</a>.\n\n![Free Half Day Tour - Taipei.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmdyrpy6BQFZoMzEax1CfUu4sZ7pwSzUFWjUYEfJBCrP4i/Free%20Half%20Day%20Tour%20-%20Taipei.png)\n\nSeeing a free layover tour seems to be too good to be true, so I took a closer look to see what the catch is.  \n\nFor the Taipei Half-Day tour, the following considerations need to be made:\n- Transit or transfer passengers with 7- to 24-hour layovers before their next connecting flight, who have valid R.O.C. visas or come from countries eligible for visa-exempt entry. \n- Valid Passports and completed immigration embarkation/disembarkation card\n- Limited seats are available, and you need to register on-site (there are up to 18 seats available and you can only participate in 1 tour)\n\nLuckily, when we arrived at the airport, I was able to get myself and my brother a seat at this bus tour. We did the morning tour (they have 1 morning and 1 afternoon tour, going to separate locations). It has elements that I enjoy: action, not much romance, character development, some fantasy, and a touch of comedy.\n\nFor those not familiar with this show, My Hero Academia is originally a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kōhei Horikoshi on July 2014 up to the present date. It was granted a Japanese anime adaptation and released its first episode on April 2016, and is currently on its third season.\n\nThe story takes place in a world where superpowers (known as \"Quirks\") are considered normal. The protagonist, Izuku Midoriya, is constantly bullied by his classmates for being \"Quirkless\", but dreams of becoming a superhero like the world's greatest Hero, \"All Might\".  One day, Izuku Midoriya, attempts to save his childhood bully from a villain, and as a result, All Might, grants Midoriya his own quirk \"One For All\".  The story follows Izuku Midoriya's journey as he attempts to cultivate \"One For All\" and become the world's next greatest superhero.\n\nAfter watching the latest episode available from [Crunchyroll](http://www.crunchyroll.com/my-hero-academia/), I decided, I wanted to create a recommendation list of alternative anime and manga that reminds me of this show.\n\nMy basis will be the following: superheroes and schools that cultivate super powers or similar. \nI also tried to not limit myself to Japanese-based animation and mangas.\n<hr/>\n\n<center>![GakuenAlice.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmUZEUtj1ocE4H5aLW6gVq7iMUinLvJZ3J91BZ6GQd4fmz/GakuenAlice.jpg)\n</center>\n <h2>Gakuen Alice </h2>\n<b> Gakuen Alice </b> is an elite Academy for gifted people with supernatural abilities called \"Alices\". The story centers around a young girl named Mikan Sakura who follows after her best friend that transferred to the school, and consequently gets transferred herself once an Alice teacher tells her that she possesses a rare Alice herself. \n\nGakuen Alice is broadly similar to My Hero Academia, not due to the action but similar in the fact that it's a school for the gifted with specific abilities. In this elite school they're supposed to cultivate and grow these powers in some capacity. It doesn't have much in the way of action (at least not in the beginning), but it has character growth, superpower abilities, and comedy.  \n\n<center>![UnordinaryWebcomic.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmVJZFugNYVbmxvZQSg3wf3tYtX2CaNTz5UEZyJJtZXw6d/UnordinaryWebcomic.jpg)</center>\n<h2>Unordinary </h2>\n<b> Unordinary </b> is a popular [Webtoon](https://www.webtoons.com/en/fantasy/unordinary/prologue/viewer?title_no=679&episode_no=1) comic created by uru-chan. The webtoon takes place in a world where the Ordinary possess abilities, and are categorized by a tier-level. Wellston Private High is one of the most prestigious and competitive schools in the country, in terms of both academics and Turf Wars. This is the main setting for the main protagonist, John Doe, a supposed low-tier that transfers to Wellston High. In this school, he quickly discovers that the strong dominate the weak, not unlike the rest of the world, but somehow befriends the strongest student at the school.\n\nUnOrdinary lives in a world similar to My Hero Academia where the norm are those with superpower abilities. The main protagonist is also one who doesn't condone bullying and will try to stick up for those who are seen as a 'cripple' and cannot defend themselves, in what capacity he can.\n\nThat's pretty much where the similarity ends. In this world, there are tier levels in terms of power and bullying runs rampant in the school where the strong survive. \n\nInteresting enough, in this world, 'superheroes' aren't common. There are high-tiers who call themselves superheroes but are seen as vigilantes. And more often than not, they become superheroes due to a highly illegal booked named Unordinary because it challenges the idea of high-tiers using their abilities to help others, that everyone should be seen as equal.\n\n![OnePunchMan.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmUvUjnXbh4TwHb21qNBurLGWL9HnoRmJs9YzUqVLnfnmb/OnePunchMan.jpg)\n<h2> One Punch Man </h2>\n<b>One Punch Man </b> is an action/comedy japanese series where the main protagonist Saitama eventually becomes a hero and is enrolled in the Hero Association where all heroes are classified from S-Class (the strongest) to C-class (the weakest). Throughout the series, Saitama encounters multiple villains, monsters, and heroes and eventually adopts a disciple of his own.\n\nThis series leans more toward comedy with a touch of a storyline and action. The reason I chose One Punch Man is because it follows the idea that in a world where superheroes exist, that there should be an organization involved to make sure that the heroes are paid for their services and have a classification system behind it. \n\n![Naruto.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmemW7t4L3tRDuN6SsgW6fBHcGNPm1C6juRjaF1mQD24Zg/Naruto.jpg)\n<h2>Naruto</h2>\n<b>Naruto</b>  is the main protagonist of the series, set in the Ninja World where ninjas are seen as the norm. He is often ridiculed and scorned by the villagers for being the host of the Nine-Tails a powerful fox that had attacked the city of Konoha but sealed by the Fourth Hokage (the past leader of Konoha who died in response to the seal). Naruto, as the underdog, enrolls in the Ninja Academy, wanting to eventually train and become a respectable ninja, and eventually the Hokage so he can gain recognition and praise. \n\nNaruto is loosely similar to My Hero Academia, but it has traces and elements from the show. For one, the main protagonist needs to rise up and be seen as a strong individual when most of his life, he was seen as a 'loser'. Naruto and Izuku are also similar that they have a 'hero' that they strive to be: Naruto sees the Fourth Hokage as his hero whereas Izuku sees All Might as his. \n\n<hr/>\nOut of the four recommended alternatives, I strongly recommend <b>Unordinary</b> as the closest to My Hero Academia. If anyone has other suggestions, please let me know and your thoughts behind them.",

I am sorry to say that I haven't visited the Underground River, though I may return one year just for this trip alone (I do hope to see the bats that live in there, and I have heard of the mini waterfalls inside of the cave).\n\nFor myself, I visited Coron Island, because I was able to capture the image above.  The viewpoint shows the view of Coron Bay, and it's taken at the top of the hill, right before heading down to  <b>Kayangan Lake</b>. \n\n![Inside_Kayangan Lake.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmY7f1fc17hyREPVFDQi44Rs62WhHjc9w2EnRA3ibLx26q/Inside_Kayangan%20Lake.jpg)\n<center>[Featuring: Kayangan Lake, Coron Island, Palawan, Philippines] </center>\n\nBe careful while walking - have a pair of trail shoes / hiking shoes that have a good grip as some of the paths aren't the best (i.e. mixture of stones / rocks and sand). \n\nHowever, once you arrive at the Lake, it will make the trip worth it. Kayangan Lake is known to be one of the most beautiful, crystal clear waters and tall cliffs that surround it.  If you are visiting, check out the small cave located in there. I do wish that I had brought a flashlight since it gets a bit dark in there. \n\nFor those interested, if you are scuba diver, Coron Island is known to have multiple locations for diving. If so, here are a few things to know prior to the trip.\n\nIf you are going to visit Coron Island, I advise you to  <i>stay at Coron</i>. From Coron, you can purchase the Lake Tour(s). There are several tours that offer the lake tours, and most offer a buffet lunch as visiting the different lakes take most of the day. (This ranges roughly between $20 - $80). If you do capture a tour, I advise getting a private tour if you can find one as it allows for a relaxed atmosphere, and you can spend as much time as you want on each island.\n\nIf you stay at Coron, most locations are a walking distance. There are locals selling water right before you go up for the hike.\n\nFor <b>Maquinit Hot Spring</b>, to get there, I advise you take the tricycle going up (bring small change to get you where you need to go). It's a huge saltwater hot spring and it's pretty relaxing, especially at night.\n\nAs to where, you should stay? There are multiple hotels in the surrounding area, but the one that I stayed at for this trip is at <b>Corto del Mar</b>.
