bodyYes, this is the problem. We need some government to fix certain issues like regulate monopolies in industries where competition is difficult because of high initial capital requirements and exclusive ownership of infrastructure. But too much government creates more problems, so then we go back to reducing government. We end up in the current situation where every 1-2 election cycles we vote in rightwing parties, then leftwing parties, then rightwing parties, then leftwing parties. You're also right that Mario Kart item generation is balanced such that the bottom players get better items to use as catch-up mechanics, while the top two players only draw banana peels and green shells. But when you're the top player, you're also free to drive at max speed, with maximum coins because nobody is knocking you over. But if you're a bad racer, you will make mistakes and others will catch up, so it's still your own merit if you win the race from that position. The point I'm making is that morality is symmetry. Leftists see the asymmetry of outcomes as immoral, while rightwingers see the asymmetry of rules as immoral. Leftists want to rig the rules to allow players to win who otherwise wouldn't, but the system by which they try to fix this becomes too complicated and resource-heavy. Big government drains society's resources. For example, in my country the taxes are so high, I closed my company last year. My ad revenue is considered "freelancing" and it's taxed only as income, so I don't have to pay VAT (value-added tax) which is 24%. I was also paying a 2500€ yearly mandatory pension payment, which was the main reason I closed my company. And now, without a company, I cannot enter the gaming business, because selling games is in the range of the VAT. I'd be breaking the law selling my games. I'm stuck writing articles. Leftist governments have to tax everything, including startup companies to keep their system going, but this kills companies and their tax revenues. They are creating poverty by making the economy difficult for people of average intelligence and low starting income. Both political sides, the right and the left, are correct, and we cannot achieve a workable status quo without taking into account different view points. But the current leftist dogma puts certain values too high on their value hierarchy, which motivates them to sacrifice other important values, ie. freedom of speech, rule of law, the non-aggression principle, which were integral in making western societies the economic power houses of the world.

bodyWell to be clear, in Mario Kart the leaders in a race get the worst weapons (usually bananas or green shells); those in the middle get mid-grade weapons; those in back get blue shells and huge speed boosts. It's all designed to keep things as close as possible without one's ability to race wholly determining the outcome. This is a ridiculously complex topic, because strict free market will tend to favor those happy to abuse the rights of others for their own financial gain; so we put some laws in place just to stop the abuse of rights, and it creates new wrinkles; so then new laws to address those, and so on. Until the point that the legal system gets incredibly complex so that lawyers become hot commodities and therefore extremely expensive; and suddenly justice becomes too expensive for some; etc. I don't mean this as a whole picture, but to suggest that even putting together the brightest minds truly looking out for the good of the whole would have deep arguments on how to accomplish the desired outcome. I agree that it's unideal to purposely craft laws that favor one group over another -- the spirit of your article here. This type of agenda is racist, sexist, and divisive while usually promoted by those who accuse the same on others. I also don't think there's any sort of simple fix and that the only ultimate fix is for humans to collectively become better.

titleThe Cryptocurrency Poem - A Video Poem
bodyI was inspired by the Steemit community and the rise in cryptocurrency to write my latest poem and to turn it into a video poem. It's about the birth of digital currency and the government's response and its potential to fundamentally change the world. It involves government tracking / surveillance, labeling political dissidents, and more. The poem is posted on my personal website. Feel free to comment here and on the poem's web page as well: **[The Cryptocurrency Poem](http://www.stevemccardell.com/poems/what-the-common-people-choose-the-cryptocurrency-poem)** As with any author or artist ... if you like the work, please don't hesitate to sign up for my mailing list (on my site) and/or share the poem with others using links on social media or websites. I hope you love it! ![Cryptocurrency Poem](https://s5.postimg.org/op480d2nb/Cryptocurrency-_Poem.png)

bodyHe used the astronomy program and went back 5000 years and this alignment has not happened. He also went 1000 into the future, same thing, not happened. It's the only time he's been able to find. Scottie had a video up of a screenshot of every feast of trumpets and the alignment wasn't there. I can't seem to find it, but he does reference this in other videos. Here's another person who went to great lengths to check this also, same thing it's once in 7000 years. https://youtu.be/XXxVwpcXV0U

bodyI hope you're wrong too. It's the old "hope for the best, prepare for the worst" situation, and I wonder philosophically how much we impact the outcome by our own expectations. So I try to stay positive about it all, but also want to do what I can not only to prepare myself but to encourage others to diversify -- not just out of traditional savings, but in terms of earning income from more than one source and so on. A new world is developing before our eyes, and I believe it empowers the individual more than ever before. But if that's what is happening, then individuals will need to take a lot more responsibility for things, and I'm not sure how many people want that. Thanks to you also for the great feedback. This is a good community to be part of as we navigate into this new era.

bodyOne thing that's interesting is he has put together a lot of work on the Feasts of the LORD as described in Leviticus 23. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Leviticus+23&version=NKJV The short version is that these feasts are being fulfilled as bible prophecy. The first 4 were fulfilled when Jesus came the first time, and the next one to be fulfilled will be the Feast of Trumpets. That occurs every year in the fall in September. Scottie doesn't like setting dates, but there is excitement every year around that time as the anticipation of the rapture. I'd say, because this revelation 12 sign occurs (not coincidentally ) the exact day of the feast of trumpets this year, there's way more excitement. So to answer your question, he has predicted that the rapture would occur on the feast of trumpets on some year, and there's a lot pointing to this year.

Remember, everything is driven by money and power in governments and large corporations, media included. titleKraken Now Lets You Buy Ripple Directly ... but Did You Catch This?
body![bitcoin.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmYZzMibmamwokniMXZZPqTXcw4q55uQyDpkpCDtRRzaGw/bitcoin.jpg) You may have seen this announcement, but Kraken now lets you buy Ripple (XRP) with several fiat currencies including the US dollar. You can see one article on this here: http://www.newsbtc.com/2017/05/19/kraken-ripple-fiat-support/ But did you notice this comment within this article? "On May 5, 2017, the platform reported a record 24-hour trading volume of $178,521,474, which was a 25 percent increase from its previous record set on March 17, 2017." We've already seen cryptocurrency values surging in recent weeks, and the natural question is whether we're in a bubble and we'll see a crash before long. I tend to think the answer is yes because surges this sudden usually need some sort of reset. But there's another question worth asking. If you're familiar with the concept of the tipping point, things grow slowly until a certain point of momentum is reached. In this case, when enough people are familiar with cryptocurrency ... then get interested to invest in it. Suddenly it can take off *without that surge being a bubble*. The surge is meeting real demand rather than prospector speculation. Sure, I think bubbles will still happen because surges don't happen in isolation from things like speculation and competition and government regulation that create bubbles. But a surge like this could have legitimacy. And what I've described above isn't the only tipping point. The big one to occur will be when it's easy for the average person to understand the world of cryptocurrency and to use it. This is when values could dwarf where we are today. It's because of this that long-term investors don't try timing the market. Their goal is to get into those things they believe will hold value over time. The current surge in prices could still see a crash. Many people believe it's inevitable. But if you think that cryptocurrencies are here for the long-term and you're willing to risk an investment in that, then you have to decide whether you want to time the market, or simply get in and trust in the overall trend. In short, buying now holds the risk that you're "buying high"; but that's only true if this is an unnatural bubble. Waiting for the crash could mean that you miss out buying when really we're at the low point of an explosive new trend. You know, some day people may well be saying, "If only I'd bought Bitcoin when it was $2000 per coin." Where do you stand on this? And why?

bodyThanks stevemcc, Great comments. You are very reasonable. I am worried about new laws allowing the banks to treat us bank depositors as unsecured lenders. Derivatives get first priority now with FDIC insurance, which means the insurance can quickly run out in a crash leaving none of us depositors corrected. The Banks can now do a Bail-in where they remedy their default position with depositors funds. In place of our money in the bank, they will give us stock in the worthless bank. Greece was a test run. Yep, cryptocurrencies are a crap shoot. My thinking is that regardless of what the mainstream news media tells us, the truth is that the world economies are in tremendous debt to the banks and failing. In a bank crash, people will flee to precious metals as a safe haven, but it will be too late, because people following this trouble and ahead of the curve will have bought up all the available gold and silver bars and coins. What's left? Cryptocurrencies will look more appealing, even if a bit risky. What other options are there if we can't trust the banks? Food for thought. I hope I am wrong. The issues are so complicated when you research, it is hard to know for sure how things will play out. Also, if the Trump administration has a plan to come out of an impending economic crash, they won't scare us by talking about it. Thanks again for great comments from you.

bodyYou always have to pay the principle off in full, so I'm not sure how you can pay $44,000 less in interest and yet save a total of $138,000 in payments. But my main comment here is that this is a good idea if you don't have a better investment for that money. For instance, if you have any credit card debt at more than 4% (the mortgage rate), then you should be paying that off first from what I can tell, because that interest will be accumulating faster than what you're saving with the house interest. Likewise, if you can earn more than 4% elsewhere (or believe you can), same sort of thing. On the other hand, in an age of economic uncertainty and people losing their homes, there is a secondary value to just getting the house paid off in spite of other opportunities, so this is something someone needs to consider for themselves.

"body": "You always have to pay the principle off in full, so I'm not sure how you can pay $44,000 less in interest and yet save a total of $138,000 in payments. But my main comment here is that this is a good idea if you don't have a better investment for that money. For instance, if you have any credit card debt at more than 4% (the mortgage rate), then you should be paying that off first from what I can tell, because that interest will be accumulating faster than what you're saving with the house interest. Likewise, if you can earn more than 4% elsewhere (or believe you can), same sort of thing.\n\nOn the other hand, in an age of economic uncertainty and people losing their homes, there is a secondary value to just getting the house paid off in spite of other opportunities, so this is something someone needs to consider for themselves.",

bodySchiff is, of course, 100% correct. But so are you in terms of reasons someone still might look to cryptocurrency. Arguably, gold and silver are not volatile -- as I understand it, they traditionally hold value in terms of what they can buy, but seem to fluctuate in value because the fiat dollar is changing in value. If they rocket upwards, it's because the fiat system is rapidly losing value. Gold and silver (and other metals) can be used by industry, so there is an inherent value that fiat money and cryptocurrency can never match. The latter rely on faith that someone will accept the currency in exchange for goods and services. This is why crypto will be a total crapshoot as we figure out which options people will reliably accept. But it seems clear that we're moving into a digital era and that people don't want centralized powers running the money system, where they can deflate the value of that money (i.e., steal from everyone who has any of that money) on a whim.

titleHumorous Video Poem on Vlad "the Impaler" Dracula
body<html> <p>If you know a little vampire history, you know that Count Dracula was inspired in part by the infamous ruler and "impaler" (of people), Vlad Dracula ... as well as the stories of vampirism associated with that region of the world (Romania).</p> <p>Now, whether Vlad was simply living in a different era and his cruelty was justified by the times and his foes, I'll leave that up to you dear reader. But in the meantime, a simple vampire sketch inspired the first lines of this poem, and the rest quickly followed. So, meant as a mere amusement, I give you my <strong>1-minute video poem, "Dear Old Wicked Vlad."</strong></p> <p>Subscribe to my newsletter for a heads up when I publish more stories, poems, articles, and videos: <a href="http://www.stevemccardell.com/newsletter.html"><strong>http://www.stevemccardell.com/newsletter.html</strong></a></p> <p><strong>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYDq8OYfQyQ</strong></p> </html>

titleBad Email Sales Pitches and How to Fix Them
body<html> <p>Tell me if you see this in business. And if you use email to pitch anything, see if my comments could help you craft a better pitch.</p> <p>I receive emails every day trying to sell me some service. And it fascinates me how many people are trying to make a living in sales without using established copywriting techniques. (I'll give you an example in a moment.)</p> <p>Now I've been writing and marketing professionally since 2001, so maybe I'm just more sensitive to these crass approaches, but that's why I'm asking you: do you see this kind of thing and do you delete these emails as quickly as you throw out junk mail?</p> <p>I don't want to use someone's exact email because that is <em>their</em>&nbsp;material and I don't want to throw them under the bus. So let me share its essence and then what I would prefer to see. A sample email I just received goes like this:</p> <p><strong>PARAGRAPH 1:</strong> Everyone does this [not really true] ... jargon jargon ... but in the end you need a human touch. [Stating the problem and need ... not bad. But sweeping statements and jargon ... my eyes are already glazing over.]</p> <p><strong>PARAGRAPH 2:</strong> I'm reaching out to you because I believe you have influence in your company on this topic. [Complete with misspelling.] I am suggesting [his words] that you outsource this service to us. [I have no idea who he is, yet he is already: 1) admitting that he's reaching out for his own benefit; making suggestions I haven't asked for; and asking for my money.]</p> <p><strong>PARAGRAPH 3:</strong> Please tell me when I can call so you can hear my reasons about why you should hire us. [Although you're supposed to ask for some action in a note like this, I'm no fan of someone asking for my time on the phone when I've shown no interest in them.] <em>I did like that he then explained they are only paid on the INCREASE in sales they generate.</em></p> <p>So that's pretty much what he covered. And it's a good example of <strong>the problem I see in most email sales pitches:</strong> it focuses on the company writing to me rather than focusing on me. And most companies have to do this because they're casting a wide net rather than taking the time to learn about a company and write an email specific to their needs.</p> <p>The companies that have typically caught my eye are those who have done one of the following:</p> <p>1) Recognized some pain point we're having -- with enough details that I know they've spent some time looking at us -- with something specific they do that can help out.</p> <p>2) Same as above and actually provided useful insights on the spot. Then asked if we would like more of the same.</p> <p>3) Didn't necessarily talk about our specific needs, but still started things off by offering some form of value. A recent one opened with a promise that a 3-minute story would have me looking in a new way at marketing. (Most people like stories, and here was a promise of having new insights about something in just 3 minutes.)</p> <p>All of these share the common trait of giving time and/or other value to me before they ever asked time or value from me. They are establishing the psychological principle of "reciprocation" -- giving to create a subtle sense of obligation on the part of the recipient. They also do a good job of focusing on the reader, remembering that everyone's favorite subject is themselves.</p> <p><strong>So I'll bring it back to you:</strong> do you get email pitches that you think fail? What don't you like about them? What types of pitches work on you? And if you send email pitches, what works and doesn't work to get you leads?</p> </html>

titleBad Email Sales Pitches and How to Fix Them
body<html> <p>Tell me if you see this in business.
