      "body": "Recognizing an addiction is the first step toward curing it.  Seeking freedom from addiction is to admit that the object of the addiction has left us powerless.  We need to submit to a power greater than ourselves to restore sanity.  \nIsrael was set up to be a nation of priests to the whole world. Yet they, through their weakness toward sin, could not complete that mission on its own. The Israelites rejected the prophets, set up corrupt kings who allowed idol worship in the Promised Land, and traded their mission for worldly and material power rather than trust in the Lord. They went into exile and repented, and returned — but only to go through the same process again and again.\nThe long history of the Israelites serves as an object lesson to this basic truth, and to another: we are, as part of our nature, addicted to sin. It’s not just an addiction to material pleasures, but also to the sin of arrogance, that we do not need the Lord, or that the Lord serves us rather than the other way around. \nWe are addicted to our own sense of ersatz godliness, (ersatz godliness is a substitute, of less quality, for God).  This substitute for God blinds us, just like a laser pen beam across our eyes.  \nAs a disciple of Christ, we are not perfect beings.  But we must continue to pursue and embrace the teachings of Christ.  We need to stay on that path, forgetting what lies behind but straining forward to what lies ahead – We need to: \n\n1.\tRecognize our sinfulness and seek forgiveness for it.   \n2.\tWork to overcome it through faith in Christ.  \n3.\tWe need to seek the righteousness of God – not self-righteousness.  \n4.\tWe can only find it through faith in Christ.",

      "body": "God, when faced with the reality of the fallen (angels and human beings that turned against Him), could not allow their disobedience to be left unchecked.  Perhaps He could have just extinguished their very existence, or dispatched them to some far away place, or possibly just ignore the situation in the hope that they would see what they had done and contritely return to God as good and faithful creations of God.  \nIn reality God did all of those things – He chose to address the situation by experiencing life and death as a human being.  \nGod, in the name of Jesus Christ entered into the world the same way that we all have, and died, gasping for His last breath the same way that every other human being must.  \nHis was an ignominious, painful, and horrific death that He did not, necessarily have to endure.  \nBut He did endure it, and He rose from that death as a way of addressing the decisions of the fallen in an attempt to get them to contritely return to God as good and faithful creations of God.  \nThe next step in His plan is for us to make our decision based on what He did.  We could either become extinguished of our very existence and be dispatched to some far away place, or recognize Jesus Christ and the life that he chose to live (and die) and acknowledge that by following Him in life (and death) we can achieve what He intended for us – immortality with Him, with God in Heaven.",
