body### Honesty What price can you put on the words people use to communicate. I prefer that people tell me the truth, otherwise my decisions would be made with one or more of the variables askew. That fault in the information on which I rely could cause bigger, or even complete, failure. Let's talk about that one as I head into an important deal I made. I was a deceptive teenager when I was young. Everyone thought I was a little angel until I got found out, only a few times, when the light was shown on one of my deeds. My parents were very strict, which is a pretty good motivator for lying when blame was about to be assigned. My three siblings all had things they did not want mom, and more importantly dad, to find out about. We all copied what our mother did. She smoked and that was like having a permission slip to do the same. If any of my brothers and sisters told on me, they would be in trouble too as I told on them for smoking. Nobody ever told. When I became a father, I did want respect, not fear, from my children. When they got to the age when they were allowed to walk to school or stay over at a friend's house, I made a deal with them. I thought long and hard about it but before going through my deal with my kids, let's look at what others are doing: Some parents today share their strategies on line, one such parent told her kids that parents always know if the kids are sleeping or not because if a child is really sleeping, and you lift their arm up, it will stay up. They can now be sure if the child is asleep or not - not sleeping if the child's arm stays in the air. Another mom, told her kids at a young age that parents know when a child is lying because a red dot shows on the kids' foreheads when they lie. Only parents can see the dot, but it is always visible when a lie has been told. Thus, the children would always cover their foreheads when they are lying. Like the smoking example my mother gave me, I did not think it was good to lie to my kids in order to drive home the lesson of honesty. We talked about honesty and how it is the best policy. They agreed. I went through some examples and the problem that come from lies. It could cause mom and dad to fight because each has a different story. Teachers can be hurt if the parent has the wrong information going into a school conference. I laid out the deal and we shook on it. If you are ever in trouble or have done something wrong. I want you to come to me and tell me about it so that I can help you. If you do that before things get out of hand, I promise that there will be no punishment - no matter what. ### What did **not** count Let's say you steal something and get hauled into the manager's office. The police were called and now I go to pick you up - bail you out - there will be a punishment. Technically, the police told me first and you are out of luck. If something has been damaged, the damage will be the one who told me. No deal! It has to be a situation where no damage has occurred and you have not been accused of something wrong **in order to count.** My kids tried the truth of the deal on me over the years and they were always happy they had told me the truth. I have **two examples**of this deal in force: The first was very positive for me and it parallels something that happened to me when I was young. The second one also does the same but in a different way. ### First Recently, my middle son came home with the news that his girlfriend is pregnant. She is the little princess of her family and he was very worried about his future father-in-law but begged me not to tell anyone. I talk a lot and that is difficult for me, but I promised and did not say a word to anyone. I successfully kept it all to myself and he was coming over quite often to talk and I gave ear. He is too old for me to dish out punishments, but he was still glad he came to me. I was very supportive and remained positive throughout the entire ordeal. I warned that couples normally do not share that information until well along during a pregnancy and they did wait until the third month to tell her father and my youngest who still lives with me. Near the end of the third month and after many prenatal visits to the doctors, she lost the child. I had said the reason why people do not tell everyone until later on was to avoid making things worse if something goes wrong. Sadly, that is what happened. The above para graph was not going to be written, but when my boy stopped by and saw me writing, he suggested I use his situation as an example. We both agree that we got a lot closer having gone through it together. ### Second Downstairs in the garage, I have a new vehicle with only 1,000 miles on it. It is not mine but I drive it. That is another "trato" that I will be covering one of these days. I am the only one with keys to this vehicle. The owner and I were both at the dealership when he bought it. The keys that he got went right into my hands. They are the only ones in existence. I don't use it much, only weekends when traffic is not so bad here in the city. I remember having 30 miles on the tripometer last I parked it a few weeks ago. I looked one day when I went down to take it to the car wash, it was showing 60 and I had the sense that it had been moved, though it was turned around and backed in just as I always park it. When I got the car, I took the opportunity to teach both of my boys who live in this state to drive stick shift. Only the younger has a drivers license, he is the one that lives with me. The next day, my little one and I were on our way to the market to get groceries. We were walking and I mentioned that my gas mileage was really bad since the last fill up and I have only gone on one weekend trip to China Town. His head went back and he looked up at the sky and said, "I have to tell you something, Dad." The whole thing came out like a gushing geyser, how he was up late and, "I have a license, dad." I sighed and explained that any tickets or accidents, if they happen, will go on the owner's record and would really cause problems with my dealings with other people. Even the insurance is in his name. **But,** (pause) despite all of that, **no punishment**.
![theHonestyDeal.jpg](https://images.hive.blog/DQmULQAWmmSSUVKAZnPRwrBvXwsiMiA2Fqq4MpEMjvupwsy/theHonestyDeal.jpg)
My boys can drive all they want on Sunday mornings, which reduces the risks - the odds are with us when nobody else is on the roads. I did not need to ask him why he thought this would be a 'good' idea. You see, when I was 12 years old, I had borrowed my mom's car. I was already fixing cars. Tune ups, brake jobs, oil changes, and some electrical work. If I was old enough to fix them, I was old enough to drive them. "Obviously, the law had not figured out that there are kids who are special and uniquely qualified..." was my reasoning. Both boys heard the stories I told, and had laughed at my crazy childhood. Now, the littlest one gets razzed for his legal, yet not wise, choice to take out 'the car' we have. As I have said, "My word is my bond." and I honor deals that I make. I surround myself with others like me. Deal breakers do not get far with me. I appreciate my boys' decisions to tell me the truth. They try to find loopholes in them and if they exist, which they do not, they will try to exploit them. The main idea is to have little men who are honest in their dealings with the world. We need more people in the world that do these kinds of things. I am doing my part to have added several more to the pot of the few and far between real men of the world.
***Trato Hecho means "Done Deal"***

bodyIn The States, when I was there, you could get an apartment as long as you could prove that you have a job. As competition increased to fill large complexes, all which had wall board division of rooms, they were offering "First Month Rent Free" in order to get you signed. You could not be denied because of race, gender, religion, etc. and you still had to pay before getting the keys because the deposit had to be paid. That is a different culture and you have to try to get the hard working people that live from paycheck to paycheck. Nobody has an extra $800 to pay a deposit (non-California renters). Sales get tailored to their needs, or rather, their debt based habit. I blame the ads everyone is exposed to for the problem. They make you think you need things that you really do not. After moving to a free country, I found out that landlords were able to deny people a place to live, rentals that is, by all of the above. They do so in their rental ads. When I saw a place for rent and the owner was there painting or something, I would ask, "How much is it?" Without exception, they would say, "For who?" I would reply something like ' you are looking at him ' and they would ask many questions, married, divorced, kids, and 'where do you work?' When they were satisfied, they would tell me the price. If you passed the initial test and got the price, that was just the start. You then needed a guarantee. When I asked around about getting one of those, everyone who knew and liked me refused. I quickly learned that there was no competition for getting things rented. Many people have several apartments for rent but they would rather have them empty than have even a slight risk when it comes to renters. I could write for weeks on this topic alone, but I won't. What worked for me, being a non-credit-card type of person. I offered to pay a year up front and any deposit they required. I was rarely turned down. They then learned that I had obsession with paying my bills on time. I do not even wait for the due date. I pay them as soon as I get them in my hand. I was essentially handing them a risk free renter falling out of the sky with only one condition, which they also agreed to easily. Here, rental contracts have inflation built into them. Rent goes up at the six month mark of your contract as the paper money gets more and more worthless. By paying the year up front, they had the opportunity to use the money before it lost half of its value due to the passage of time. And I had twelve months to save the lump sum again. Now, things have changed as contract build thirty to fifty percent increases every few months during the term of the lease. Those types of things are coming to The States too if nothing is done about the government's money habits. I still choose to rent because, without fail, every time I spend solid assets, meaning sell them for paper to "buy" something, the asset I held goes double or triple in value (dollar value that is). It would not matter if I rented or bought a place to live. My holdings increase and I find myself looking back and regretting changing them into paper. I regret spending the money. Renting makes those regrets smaller monetarily. If one day I chose to buy a home, I need to be sure that the asset I am cashing out is at its peak in dollars before making that leap. Like that guy who bought the pizza with his coins, not holding on to an appreciating asset is a sin. One that never feels good to have committed. My latest rental involves someone I have known for years. I actually got him into crypto coins years ago. He likes holding them and understands the principles I am going over here. When I signed the contract, I told him I can pay him rent in bitcoin. He liked the idea and I told him that I really like seeing people learn and hold this marvelous asset. "I have no problem with your coins going up in value after I pay you. That has been the case, and is unavoidable, when I buy anything. He has a store and has made gains on every purchase I have made at his shop. He understands the way this stuff works. I explained that I will need fifty percent of the gains you make on the coins at the end of the year. He agreed. It is a win/win deal. Example: If I pay him ten thousand dollars for the year, and the price of the coin doubles, and is worth twenty thousand at the end of the contract, he keeps the original ten thousand worth and another five thousand in gains. I receive five thousand also, which is half of what I would have made by simply not renting his apartment. He asked what would happen if the price is much less at the end of the contract. I told him that I would have been worse off had I held and there is no foul. He would be at a loss too, which I would not be replacing. He can hold and recoup that money when the price is not being manipulated and rises again. (I would not have that option since he has the coins.) As I said, he agreed because he has some experience in crypto. As it turns out, and I knew it would, the coin has doubled since the day I paid that year in full. If I were to renew today, I would get half my rent back for this year, in crypto terms. Let's say, he decided to balk at the idea of giving up half his gains. I would be happy to pay him in cash dollars, a failing paper currency, for next year. It would be no different than looking at the hundred thousand dollar laptop I am using right now. Yes, I bought it for one bitcoin years ago. If he honors what we had written into the contract, He could apply those gains to the new year and I would give him more bitcoin to cover the rest of the year's rent. Empathy, putting one's self in the shoes of one's opponent, is always in play when I am making a deal. Finding an agreement that works for both parties is always the best way to come up with a good deal to offer someone. It also greatly increases the chances of closing any deal. Lastly, I no longer pay the bills as soon as they arrive. The landlord in this case has agreed to pay all the bills and I just send him USDT for the lump sum of gas, electric, water, and internet on a certain day of the month, every month. Talk about making my life easier! Freedom and smooth sailing.

bodyI have been making deals since I was a little kid. I guess the first few were done verbally and I've always preferred to do it that way since then. One of the first deals that I made was with a business owner. It was a plant store, and I had the idea that I could repair bicycles in the back of their store. I had noticed a back entrance with a garage door, the kind that rolls up, the kind with a chain that pulls the door around a roller at the top. I did not think that they wanted someone coming in with bicycles during business hours and possibly messing up the plants, so I had my pitch already to include that back door. I had seen the back door open at one point. I noticed that they kept bags of fertilizer, I think it was, against one wall but there was plenty of room in there and there was also a makeshift workbench. So of course, I went into buy a plant that I didn't need. As a customer that would bring more respect. I spoke while exchanging money for that sale that they just made. Then I asked about the back room. I told the man that I had noticed there was extra room back there. "Is there any chance that you'll be looking to rent part of your back room as a place I could repair bikes? I'm starting a business and I want to make sure that I have enough customers before I open my own place." First reaction I got was a tepid "no" but I went on to speak more about my vision. I told him that I would open after they've opened and that I would be closed before they close so that I would not need to key to get into the place. "Besides, this is the only offer you're going to have that would lower your rent and keep mine low while I test the waters for my new business." I said. I heard, "I don't know. Let me think about it. You can stop back next week." It was a mom and pop business because that was some years ago and that's the way things were back then. A few days later, I was passing by and the mom portion of that duo was unloading the back of a Toyota pickup truck. I immediately parked my bike and started helping her unload sacks of dirt or fertilizer, I don't know which. The phone rang in the middle of the job and she ran to answer it, because that's the way things were back then. Landlines! When she got off the phone the truck was unloaded and everything neatly stacked. I got the customary offer of a nice cold soda, I accepted. My goal was to stick around just long enough for the pop portion of the duo to see me there, and it worked. He brought up the subject so I wouldn't have to. He told her how I had stopped by with a novel offer, and she remembered it because he had spoken to her about it.
![image.png](https://images.hive.blog/DQmYDbouGiHJiRJv9wsFk8ebWk6bEMpySs2StUjS4uzn585/image.png)
That was the start of a business that I ran out of that back room for the next couple of years. I reduced their rent by $300 per month, and I gave them $20 for every bike that came in and out. They knew how many jobs I did because I left my receipt book there and we just counted the receipts at the end of the month to do the tally. They never asked me to help unload any trucks or anything like that, but I routinely swept, took out the garbage, and *did* help with those truckloads of products they had coming in. Theirs was a small business and so was mine, and we just got along. There was never a contract or anything to sign. It worked the same as some of my babysitting jobs or when I cut people's grass for them for $6, once a week or whenever people called me. I had more difficulty with my family. I was constantly asking them if I had gotten any calls. Life doesn't have to be complicated. Person to person is the way things should be and still are for me when I deal in crypto. Fast, easy, and a lot of shaking hands.
***Trato Hecho means "Done Deal"***
